Chapter 5

After a while of traveling they had decided to take a break and rest their sore limbs.

Theolynn looked from where she sat sharpening her sword with a wet stone watching Boromir training Merry and Pippin how to sword fight properly without over-taxing the poor hobbits.

Aragorn stood next to her watching Boromir with his arms crossed.

"Two, One, Five. Good, very good." Boromir said giving directions to the two hobbits who were doing fairly well with the training.

"Move your feet." Aragorn pointed out knowing that foot movement made the sword fight as well, but the hobbits didn't.

"You look good, Pippin." Merry said with a smile to his friend.

"Thanks." Pippin said softly.

Aragorn looked over at Theolynn. "I didn't expect a daughter of Rohan to want to join in on this quest."

"It's better than what is going on in our walls." Theolynn said as she continued to sharpen her sword.

"Inside your walls?"

Theolynn looked up with her eyes wide in shock. She cleared her throat. "Sorry, I shouldn't have said anything." She said softly, shaking her head.

"There is something going on in Rohan?"

"It's nothing important." She said trying to push back the lingering looks from when she was in Rohan of Grima and how far her father had fallen. Her brother and cousin, Eomer, are fighting and trying to keep the borders of Rohan safe and her father not care about the safety of the people.

"Faster!" Boromir said giving the orders and the hobbits moved a little faster on their feet.

"If anyone was to ask for my opinion, which I note they're not, I'd say we were taking the long way round. Gandalf, we could pass through the Mines of Moria. My cousin Balin would give us a royal welcome." Gilmi said proudly.

"No Gimli, I would not take the roads through Moria unless I had no other choice." Gandalf said, shaking his head.

Leoglas jumped from one stone to another, noticing something far away in the South.

Boromir accidentally nicked Pippin's hand with his sword. "Sorry!"

"Aaah!" Pippin then kicked Boromir in the shin.

"Ah!"

"Get him!" Merry shouted.

Theolynn looked over as saw the two Hobbits battle with Boromir and shook her head lightly.

Aragorn let out a laugh.

Boromir laughed lightly.

"For the Shire!" Pippin yelled. "Hold him! Hold him Merry!"

"Gentlemen, that's enough!: Aragorn tried to intervene but he got thrown back.

"He got my arm! He got my arm!" Merry shouted.

Sam looked over and noticed that Legolas had seen something. "What is that?"

Gimli looked over and took a puff on his pipe. "Nothing, it's just a wisp of cloud."

Theolynn looked up quickly, getting up to her feet and putting her sword away. Her brows furrowed together in worry.

"It's moving fast… Against the wind." Boromir said slowly getting up to his feet as well.

"Crebain from Dunland!" Legolas shouted, alerting them that it was indeed danger heading their way.

"Hide!" Aragorn shouted.

"Hurry!" Boromir said.

"Take cover!"

The Fellowship hurried grabbing their things and quickly getting into hiding as quickly as they could.

Sam put out the fire quickly.

They hid behind rocks and in bushes.

A huge amount of black birds fly over them, cawing loudly. They circle the hill twice, then turn and fly back towards Isengard.

Theolynn slowly went to move only to see a hand in front of her. She looked up seeing it was Boromir holding his hand out. Theolynn bit her lip softly and slowly took his hand and he helped her out from under the bushes that she had hid under.

The rest of the fellowship came out of their hiding places.

"Spies of Saruman! The passage south is being watched. We must take the Pass of Caradhras." Gandalf told the group.

Theolynn turned her head looking at Gandalf. "That is a dangerous path to go." She said her eyes were slightly wide.

"We will go the Pass of Caradhras." Gandalf said, looking at her.

Theolynn bit her lip softly, looking down. She didn't like the idea that Gandalf was picking such a dangerous route when they had hobbits with them that wouldn't handle the pass easily. And not only that Gimli was close to their height as well and it wasn't safe for the Master Dwarf either.

Boromir slowly put his hand on Theolynn's shoulder causing her to lean into his touch. "We'll be alright, Lynn." He said softly to her.

Theolynn slowly looked over at Boromir and slowly took his hand with hers. "It's dangerous for all of us…"

"I know, but if we make it through this pass… we'll be in a safer area."

Throlynn gripped his hand softly, her brows furrowed with worry.

"I promise."

Theolynn nodded her head weakly. "Okay." She said softly.

LORLOR

The Fellowship walked in the deep snow of Caradhras trying to move as quickly as they could even though their feet sunk in the snow.

Frodo stumbled and fell, rolling down the slope towards Aragorn. "Ahh!"

"Frodo!" Aragorn helped him up to his feet.

Frodo began to search around his neck for the Ring, finding that it was gone. He looked back up to where he had fallen and saw it laying in the snow.

Boromir saw it too and picked it up by its chain.

Theolynn looked at her intended with wide eyes.

"Boromir." Aragorn said, his voice coming out harshly.

"It is a strange fate we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. Such a little thing." Boromir said as he looked at the ring.

"Boromir! Give the Ring to Frodo.

Theolynn put her hand on Boromir's shoulder.

Boromir jumped out of his thoughts, and walked down and handed it to Frodo. "As you wish. I care not."

Quickly Frodo grabbed the ring from him.

Boromir turned and resumed climbing next to Theolynn.

Aragorn released the grip he had on his word.

The Fellowship, with the exception of Legolas, struggled through the deep snow.

Legolas went ahead and stopped. "There is a fell voice on the air."

"It's Saruman!"

Suddenly an avalanche fell and the fellowship barely managed to throw themselves towards the mountainside, avoiding it.

"He's trying to bring down the mountain! Gandalf, we must turn back!" Aragorn yelled at Gandalf.

"No!" Gandalf said as he took a step forward, out of the snow, and chanted a spell. "Losto Caradhras, sedho, hodo, nuitho i 'ruith!"

Suddenly lightning strikes the top of Caradhras, sending a second avalanche onto the fellowships.

Legolas pulled Gandalf away from the edge, and against the cliff just before the snow buried them completely.

After a moment they emerged from the snow.

"We must get off the mountain! Make for the Gap of Rohan and take the west road to my city!" Boromir shouted to the group and Gandalf.

"The Gap of Rohan takes us too close to Isengard!" Aragorn shouted.

"If we cannot pass over a mountain, let us go under it. Let us go through the Mines of Moria." Gimli said, looking at everyone.

Gandalf looked at Gimli with a worried face. "Let the Ring bearer decide."

"We cannot stay here! This will be the death of the Hobbits." Boromir said looking at Gandalf knowing by looking prior at the shivering Hobbits.

"Frodo?"

"We will go through the mines." Frodo said softly.

"So be it."

Boromir's arm went around Theolynn slowly leading her down the mountain. He felt her shivering from the cold air. He rubbed her back softly trying to warm her up.

This is the end of Chapter 5. Please leave a review and let me know what you think. I tried my best to write this chapter and tried to not make it close to what I wrote for another story. I thought that Boromir already having a lady love was something that would be different and fun. I haven't decided if Boromir is going to live yet. Please let me know if you want him to live. I hope to have the next chapter out soon. Until next time.
