Adelaide groaned as she stretched and forced herself to get out of bed, feeling the weight of the previous night´s event on her mind. She hoped, for Matt´s sake, that Vicki was okay. She pulled on a pair of old jeans and a hoodie, she couldn´t help but feel a sence of forbording hanging in the air. Adelaided topped off her outfit with a pair of worn Doctor Martens shoos.
Her bag slung over her shoulder, Adelaide headed downstairs, ready to face the day. But before she could even take a step out of her bedroom door, her aunt Jenna grabbed her by the arm, a serious expression on her face, and she asked." Do i look adult? As in respectful and parental?"
Adelaide looked at her aunt´s outfit a knee-lenght blue dress, and couldn´t help but smirk." I don´t think you look parental. You look hot." She quipped, raising an eyebrow mischievously.
Rolling her eyes, Jenna walked towards the hallway mirror, her purpose clear. She began messing up her hair, seeking the perfect disheveled look. " I have to go to Jeremy´s parent-teacher conference." Jenna explained. " Hair up or down?"
Adelaide leaned her head to the side as Jenna piled all her hair on the top of her head, a knowing smile playing on her lips."Sexy stewardess."She declared, unable to contain her amusement.
Just then, Elena walked out of her bedroom, catching wind of their conversation. With a smile, she chimed in." Boozy housewife."
Jenna turned to Elena, surprised by her feistiness." You´re feisty today." She observed, a playful glint in her eyes.
Elena grined back at her aunt." I feel good, which is rare. So i decided to go with it. Fly free, walk on sunshine, and all that stuff." She quipped, feeling a surge of energy unlike anything she had experienced in a while.
Elena looked down the hallway, before turning to Jenna, her brows furrowed in confusion, and questioned." Where is Jeremy?"
Jenna glanced at her own reflection in the mirror as she replied." He left early this morning. Something about getting to wood shop to finish a birdhouse.
Adelaide´s confusion deepened as she processed Jenna´s word. " Wood shop. We don´t have wood shop."
Jenna´s eyes widened as realization sank in. She turned away from the mirror and faced Adelaide, two pair of eyes meeting in confusion. " There´s no wood shop?"
Elena shook her head, her long hair cascading around her shoulder." No, there isn´t."
Disappointment clouded Jenna´s face, her lips downward." yeah, that´s what i thought."
Caroline looked towards Bonnie, her expression filled with confusion, as they walked down the hallway of the school alongside Adelaide. Caroline furrowed brows conveyed her puzzlement as she finally verbalized her thoughts." I´m confused." She said as she turned towards Bonnie. " Are you a psychic or clairvoyant?" Her tone held a hint of skepticism, as if she was unsure about the idea of supernatural abillities.
Adelaide, always quick to jump in and offer her insight, chimed in. "She´s psychic!" She beamed at Bonnie, as if proud to share her friend´s extraordinary gift.
Bonnie chuckled at Adelaide´s enthusiasm before addressing Caroline´s query. "Technically, Grams says I´m a witch. My ancestors were these cool witch chicks or something." Bonnie shook her head, seemingly amazed by her own heritage. " Grams tried to explain it all, but she was looped on liquor, so it kind of turned out...crazy family, yes. Witches, I don´t think so."
Caroline, not fully convinced, couldn´t help but joke." Yeah, well, feel free to conjure up the name and number of the guy from last night." She let out a playful sigh, hoping Bonnie´s supposed powers could somehow provide a solution to her romantic misfortune.
Adelaide, suddenly interested, quickly jumped in front of the two girls, staring at Caroline with wide eyes. "Woah, woah. What guy? And why am i just hearing about this now, Caroline?" Adelaide´s curiosity was evident as she tried to make sense of the situation.
Caroline couldn´t help but chuckled at her friend´s reaction. " Just some extremely hot guy from the grill last night." She explained nonchalantly." I didn´t get his number, so it doesn´t matter."
Adelaide looked at Caroline as if she had grown another head. "Excuse me, but when did Caroline Forbes ever pass on a hot guy." Adelaide´s disbelief was evident in her tone as she refused to accept Caroline´s explanation.
Caroline shrugged, a hint of embarrassment washing over her. " I don´t know. I was drunk." She confessed, hoping her friend would understand her lapse in judgment.
Adelaide and Bonnie stared at each other for a few moments before breaking into laughter, unable to contain their amusement at Caroline´s predicament. Caroline rolled her eyes, feigning annoyance at her friends amusement, yet secretly grateful for their light-heartedness.
The warm weather engulfed the small town of Mystic falls as the four girls sat outside the mystic grill, their laughter mingling with the gentle breeze. Tomorrow was the Night of the Comet, a grand celebration that promised excitement and mysticism. As they sat, they folded pamphlets for the event.
In the midst of their silence, Bonnie broke the quietude with a mysterious proclamation. " You know, i was talking with grams earlier, and she told me that the Comet is actually a sign of impending doom. The last time it passed over Mystic falls, there was a lot of death. So much blood and carnage, it created a bed of paranormal activity."
Caroline nodded thoughtfully, a playful smirk tugging at the corners of her lips. " yeah, then you poured Grams another shot and she told you about the aliens." Caroline looked over at Elena. waiting eagerly for the continuation of the conversation." So then what?"
Elena shook her head, her expression serious." So nothing. We just talked all night."
Caroline´eyebrow shut up in surprise." Wait, hold on. You and Stefan talked all night? There was no sloppy kiss or touchy-feely action of any kind?"
Elena adamantly shook her head, her face expressing her innocenec. "Nope, nothing like that. We didn´t go there."
Caroline looked at Elena in disbelief, then she turned her gaze to Bonnie and Adelaide. " I mean, we´re your friends, and Adelaide is your sister! Okay? You´re supposed to share the smut with us." She explained, clearly shocked by Elena´s lack of physical intimacy.
"I don´t want to know about that!" Adelaide chimed in, looking at Caroline with a mix of disgust and amusement.
Elena sighed, trying to clarify her position." Guys, we just talked for hours."
Caroline looked at Elena and let out a yelp of frustration. "Okay, what´s with the blokkage? Just jumpe his bones already! It easy. Boy likes girl, girl likes boy, sex!"
Elena couldn´t help but chuckle at Caroline´s straightforwarness." Wow, Caroline. That is some profound advice right there.
The four of them back to folding pamphlets. But not even a minute had passed when Elena suddenly jumped to her feet, causing Bonnie to look over at her with a confused experssion on her face.
"Where are you going?" Bonnie questioned, her voice filled with couriosity.
Elena quickly grabbed her bag from the back of her chair and responded deteminedly. "Caroline is right."
Bonnie furrowed her brow, trying to understand Elena´s sudden change in behavior. "Right about what?" She asked.
With out answering Bonnie´s questuion, Elena turned to Adelaide and firmly grabbed her arm." You´re comming with me." Elena commanded, her voice full of urgency.
Adelaide, taken back by this unexpected request, pulled her arm away and regarded Elena with a puzzled expression." Where are we going?" She questioned, sipping on her ice coffee.
"To see Stefan." Elena replied, her eyes filled with determination.
Adelaide scoffed, taking another sip from her ice coffee. "No." She replied bluntly, unmoved by Elena´s plea.
Elena, now wearing a sad expression, implored Adelaide. "Please Adelaide. You don´t have to stay, just make sure i get in."
Caroline chimed in, a mischievous smirk dancing across her face. "Yeah, Adelaide. Make sure she gets in."
Adelaide turned to Caroline and firmly pointed her finger, retorting. "You shut up."
The argument between the two sisters only fureled Elena´s continued to plead with Adelaide, who begrudgingly relented, grabbing her iced coffee and standing up.
"Fine."Adelaide grumbled, surrendering to Elena´s persistence- She took a sip of her iced coffee, not wanting to waste even a drop, before finally giving in.
Elena immediately seized Adelaide´s hand, eagerness dancing in her eyes, and pulled Adelaide towards her car. Bonnie and Caroline watched with amusement as Adelaide hesitated and then reluctantly allowed herself to be guided by Elena´s unwavering determination.
As the two sisters walked away, Caroline turned to Bonnie and chuckled." Those two never fail to provide us with entertainment, do they?"
Bonnie grinned and nodded in agreement. "They definitely keep life interesting."
Caroline and Bonnie returned to their folding duties, their laughter lingering in the air. littel did they know, Elena and Adelaide´s impromptu adventure would soon change all of their lives in ways the could never have imagined.
Twenty minutes later, they pulled up in front of the Salavtore boarding house. Adelaide couldn´t help but feel a sense of foreboding as they parked the car. "Okay, we´re here, but why do you need me to come in?" Adelaide questiond her sister.
Moral support." Elena replied with a nervous smile before stepping out of the car. Adelaide, reluctantly followed suit. The old house loomed in front of them, shrouded in mystery and secrets. Adelaide mumbled to herself." I can´t believe I´m doing this."
Elena turned to Adelaide, her eyes filled with determination. She reached out and grasped her sister´s arm." I have come this far, there´s no backing out now." With that, Elena made her way towards the front door.
Adelaide hesitated for a moment, the hairs on the back of her neck standing on end. Something didn´t feel right. But her loyalty towards her sister comppelled her to follow. Elena reached for the doorbell, pressing it firmly, however, when no one came to the door, she decided to knock instead.
To their surprise, the door swung open on it´s own accord. Adelaide took a step back, her instincts screaming at her to retreat. But Elena pushed forward and entered the house.
"Elena. No one let us in!" Adelaide groaned, her voice filled with apprehension.
Elena looked around, but there was no sign of anyone in the dimly lit foyer. Undeterred, she called out. "Stefan!" Her voice echoed through the empty house, reverberating off the worn-out walls.
Silence.
Elena took a few hesitant steps forwards, her heart pounding in her chest.. She called out again. " Stefan!"
Adelaide turned around when she heard a creaking sound. Furrowing her brows, she noticed the front door was wide open, which they had left partially closed. "I don´t think we should be here." She said, her voice filled with caution.
Before Elena could respond, a man appeared behind Adelaide, causing her to jump. Elena reacted quickly, grabbing Adelaide´s arm and pulled her protectively towards her. The stranger stared into Adelaide´s eyes for a moment before addressing both sisters.
"You must be Adelaide." He said, his voice low and mysterious. Adelaide gulped, feeling a shiver run down her spine." And that makes you Elena."
There was something very familiar about him. It was the same feeling she had whens she had first met Stefan. Adelaide shook her head before pulling Elena behind her as she spoke." Who are you?" She questioned with cautions curiosity.
"I´m Damon, Stefan´s brother." He replied, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Adelaide glanced over at Elena, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion." I didn´t think Stefan was talking to his brother?"
"Neither did i." Elena responded, her voice filled with uncertainty.
Damon shrugged nonchalantly." Well, Stefan´s not one to brag. Please come in. I´m sure Stefan will be along any second."
Damon walked through a large door, with the two girls following behind him. Adelaide couldn´t help but look around the room in amazement. "This is your living room?" She questioned, her voice filled with awe.
Damon smirked." Living room, parlor, Sotheby´s auction. A little kischy for my taste."
"I love it." Adelaide said as she made her way over to the bookcase, her eyes lit up and she let out a gasp of excitement. There, displayed prominently, was a first edition of her all-time favorite book. "Can i?" She questioned as she turned to Damon.
"Go ahead." Damon told her before he turned his attention back to Elena. "I can see why my brother is so smitten. For a while there, i didn´t think he would get over the last one. Nearly destroyed him."
"The last one?" Elena questioned, her curiosity piqued.
Damon nodded." Yeah, Katherine, his girlfriend." But when Elena didn´t say anything, he concluded. "Oh, the two of you haven´t had the awkward exes conversation yet?"
Elena looked away, her eyes filled with a mix of sadness and uncertainty." Nope." She mumbled.
"Oops. Well, I´m sure it will come up." Damon said with a casual shrug. He looked down at Elena, pondering their situation." Or maybe he didn´t want to tell you because he didn´t want you to think he was on the rebound. We all know how those relationship end."
Adelaide looked up from the book, a sudden anger rise to the surface. She couldn´t stand the way Damon was talking about relationship, as if every one of them was doomed to fail. She turned to Damon, her eyes burning with determination.
"You say that like every relationship is doomed to end." Adelaide said, her voice firm.
Damon took a moment to register her words, his eyebrows raised in amusement. "I´m a fatalist." He replied nonchalantly, as if it explained everything. He kept his gaze fixed on Adelaide as he greeted his brother. " Hello Stefan." He said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Adelaide and Elena turned around, surprised to see Stefan standing there in the doorway.
"Elena, Adelaide. I didn´t know you guys were coming over." Stefan said, his eyes never leaving Damon.
"I know i should have called." Elena began to explain, but Damon interrupted her his voice oozing with charm. "Oh, don´t be silly. You´re welcome here anytime. Aren´t they Stefan?" Damon glanced at his brother expectantly, but when Stefan didn´t respond, he shifted his attention towards the two girls. " You know, i should break out the old photo albums or some home movies. But.." Damon glanced back at Stefan with a mischievous smirk. "He wasn´t always such a looker."
Adelaide raised an eyebrow, unimpressed by Damon´s attempt at flattery. " And you were?" She questioned, her voice laced with sarcasm.
"I like you." Damon pointed his finger at her, playfully." I bet you´d be just as fun this time around.
Adelaide shot him a confused look." What?" She questioned.
Before Damon could answer her, Stefan quickly interrupted, his voice cold and distant. "Thank you for stopping by, Elena, Adelaide." He said, keeping his eyes locked on Damon.
"Why?" Damon questioned, his anger and sadness evident in his eyes. "We haven´t even mentioned Prudence yet." He said, his voice filled with bitterness.
"Who´s Prudence?" Elena asked, curiosity filling her voice. Was Prudence another ex-girlfriend of Stefan´s she didn´t know about.
Damon turned to the girls." She was our older sister." He told them, his voice filled with a mix of anger and sorrow.
Elena looked at Stefan, shocked by the revelation. "You have a sister?" She asked, her voice filled with genuine surprise.
"I think we should go." Adelaide said, sensing the tension in the room. She took Elena by the hand and began to drag her towards the door, but Elena stopped in front of Stefan. " Stefan." She called, her voice filled with disappointment.
Stefan didn´t say anything, he simply moved to let them pass, causing Elena to look even more upset. "Come one." Adelaide whispered to her sister as they walked out of the room and made their way towards the front door of the boarding house
As they drove away from the boarding house, Elena finally broke the silence." I can´t believe Stefan didn´t say anything about a sister." She said, her voice filled with disappoinment."
Adelaide glanced at her sister, her concern evident in her eyes." Maybe there´s more to the story than we know." She suggested gently. "People have their own reason for keeping secret."
Elena nodded, her gaze fixed on the passing scenery." I guess so." She murmured." But still, I can´t help but feel like he´s hiding something."
Adelaide sighed, her fingers drumming nervously on the steering wheel." Well, we can´t force him to talk, Elena. If he wants to keep his past a secret, we have to respect that."
"I know." Elena replied, her voice tinged with frustration." But it feel like he´s shutting me out."
Adelaide reached over and squeezed her sisters hand." It doesn´t mean that he doesn´t care about you. Sometimes, people carry burdens that´s to heavy to share."
Elena took a deep breath, her eyes filled with a mix of emotions as she thought of their mom and dad. "I guess you´re right."
As the sisters arrived home and made their way inside the house, they found their aunt Jenna inside the kitchen. She looked concerned as she glanced between the sisters. "What wrong?" She questioned, her voice filled with worry.
"Stefan." Adelaide said as she plopped down on a chair around the kitchen island. Her voice was laced with frustration and exhaustion.
"He´s on the rebound and has family issues." Elena grumbled, leaning against the counter next to Adelaide. She seemed equally frustrated, her face carrying a mix of annoaynce and sadness.
Jenna grabbed an apple from the wooden basket, twirling it in her hands as she leaned against the countertop. She took a deep breath before trying to console Elena. "Well, at least it´s an ex-girlfriend. Wait until you date a guy with mommy issues. Or worse, amphetamine issues." Jenna listen off, trying her best to bring a little perspective to the situation.
"I hear you." Adelaide chimed in before shoving a spoonful of ice cream into her mouth. The sweet treat seemed to calm her nerves momentarily.
"Elena told me what happened with Tyler." Jenna adeed, her voice filled with concern as she reach out and touch Adelaide´s arm gently.
"I don´t want to talk about Tyler." Adelaide interjected, her voice firm as she took another spoonful of ice cream into her mouth.
Before Jenna could say anything else, the front door swung open, and Jeremy walked in. "Jeremy?" Jenna called out, but when she saw him trying to sneak up the stairs, she quickly rushed in his direction. Her worry lines deepened on her face as she tried to understand what was going on with her nephew.
"More stoner stories?" Jeremy questioned dismissively as he looked at his aunt. He shook his head, seemingly uninterested in engaging in any kind of conversation.
"look, Jenna, i get it, you were cool." Jeremy raised his thumb up in an attempt to acknowledge his aunt´s previous rebellious streak." And that´s...cool." He continued, trying to dismiss her concern and continued his intended walk up the stairs to his bedroom.
Jenna´s patience wore thin as she yelled out in anger." Oh, no, no, no!" In a fit of frustration, she grabbed the apple she had been holding and hurled it at the back of Jeremy´s head.
"Ow! Why did you do that?" Jeremy questioned, turning towards his aunt with a mixed of annoyance and surprise.
"Listen up!" Jenna exclaimed, her voice laced with authority." Quit dicthing class, or you´re grounded. No discussion." Her voice carried a newfound sternness that wasn´t to be challenged.
Jeremy smirked, his lips curling into a mischievous grin as he looked at his aunt. "Parental authority, i like it." He raised his thumb up one last time as he uttered." Sleep tight." With that, he continued his way up stairs and disappeared into his bedroom, leaving Jenna standing there, a mix of shock and pride on her face.
Adelaide sighed softly as she watched Jenna walk back into the kitchen, her expression still one of disbelief. Adelaide held her bowl of ice cream out towards Jenna with a warm smile, offering her a comforting gesture.
Jenna took the bowl with a grateful smile, appreciating the small act of kindness. The three of them made their way towards the living room, where they would spend the rest of the night together.
