Read and relax

Whitebeard sat out on deck, enjoying a good day. Ace had been gone a lot and training, saying that he had some to step in for him, so he could train. He had said it was going okay, but still wasn't able to do what he wanted to. But as a week had passed, Ace stopped training, and Trevor said it was since Ace was fed up with not being able to do it, so he just didn't train. Trevor did say, if he got his blessing, Moira could come on the boat and train Ace that way. That meant Ace couldn't run away. And he said it was fine, and Moira came to the boat and trained Ace. They did it out on deck, and he had watched once, and Ace was using a kind of sword spear thing, doing a spin, before he moved it down, and nothing happened. The air blew a bit harsher for some reason and some smoke did ooze from Ace, but nothing more. And it had Ace mad and annoyed. He wouldn't say what he was doing, what was supposed to happen, but they would know when it happened.

But after two more weeks of that, Moira being with them, something happened as he was sitting out on deck. It was as if the entire ship started rumbling, shaking, even the water around them, as if an earthquake. But the island close to them had no reaction, so it came from the boat. Thatch gave a small sound. "W-what's going on?!" Whitebeard had no idea either, but the entire ship was shaking, only getting worse, and he hoped this somehow was a weather phenomenon, but he didn't think it was. "I don't know, son." The captain was just about to stand up and see if he could find out what was happening, before the entire ship gave a hard jolt, making many of them lose their balance, Whitebeard hearing and seeing windows shattering. It felt just as a shockwave went through the ship, and it felt like it came from the stern of the boat. As he was on his way to move there, he saw Trevor coming into view, the silver-haired man having a look of astonishment and admiration, him also seeing many of his children looking in utter shock at something, a few losing what they were holding, making him wonder what was happening. As Whitebeard walked to look around the corner, he felt himself freeze at what he saw, hearing Trevor speaking. "Holy crap." And Whitebeard had to agree with his words.

Some feet away stood Ace, a calm look as he watched a huge figure just a few feet from him, a figure that was at least 14 feet high. It was completely black and see-through, the edges more dense, making him see heavy armor and a sword almost the same size as the figure held in front of himself with it pointed downwards, looking like a guard. Before he could react to it, the figure moved and kneeled on one leg in front of Ace, one hand staying on the hilt of the sword, heading bowing down in what can be best described as smoke oozing from its figure. It was magnificent and astounding, and it was clear this was what Ace had tried to do the last weeks. Ace just summoned or created a knight with his powers, and he was sure Ace controls this knight. This was just extraordinary.

He could hear some clapping, seeing Moira having an approving and proud look on her calm face. This really was amazing, and he could see all his children being stunned in silence, just as he was. Before any of them could recover, the figure started fading and Trevor quickly moved to catch a falling Ace, who obviously used up his energy and strength, and succumbed to exhaustion. Ace was then helped to his bedroom so he could relax, and as he was in good hands with Moira, he looked at Trevor. "What did Ace just do?" Trevor hummed. "Oh, he made a warrior. Probably not too dense, but it will be after he practices it more, to the point where he doesn't need the item he uses. He can then control whatever he makes and yeah, use it to kill or distract." That was amazing. Trevor sighed. "Ace probably needs a small break after this, so he won't train for a small bit. Then start again. We also need him to work." That made sense. He hoped Ace would reach his full potential.

The rest of the day went by normally, Ace being gone for about an hour, probably relaxing, them doing their best to replace the windows that were broken. And the next day, Ace came into the galley, eating something from a cup with a spoon. WHen he was next to them, Ace hummed as he ate whatever it was, and as he was, he moved to grab another spoon, looking at Thatch. "Thatch, I need you to do me a favor." Thatch frowned. "What?" Ace chuckled, moving the second spoon to scoop up some of the food. "I need you to taste this. Let me just get a bit of everything on it." Thatch gave a small nod, and when Ace had, he handed the spoon to Thatch, who took a taste, and as he did, his eyes went wide, the captain sure it tasted awful. But Thatch gave a look to Ace as he had swallowed. "That… that is the most amazing thing I have ever had." Ace nodded. "Agreed. The only issue is that the one who makes it rarely makes it. They're the first ones who get it." Thatch nodded. "That really was amazing." Ace nodded. "I know. I wish he would make it more often." Thatch nodded, and Whitebeard was curious about this, but was told by Ace there is this man who makes awesome desserts, but rarely does it, making it high end. Ace said he would try and get some so he could taste, but it might take some time, which was fine by him.

Whitebeard couldn't believe what he was seeing. They had just gone to the media room, Claus saying there was something they needed to see. And when they got there and looked at the screen, Soul was sitting with the enemy, some Blue Blooded Patricians they had said, and speaking on how he had abandoned them. He had really liked Soul, he seemed nice. But as he was watching, Ace took a breath. "We need to help him." Trevor nodded. "We do." Whitebeard frowned. "Help him? He's saying he abandoned you." Ace shook his head. "No, look at his eyes." Whitebeard did, and Soul was blinking a bit much, and Ace spoke. "3 fast, then 3 slow, then 3 fast, pause and repeat." Whitebeard looked at the screen and Ace was right. "What does it mean?" Ace sighed, speaking as Soul blinked. "S O S, pause, S O S, pause, S O S." Whitebeard blinked, Ace was right. "He's in distress." Ace nodded. "Exactly. Probably why he wanted to make the video, to get it out." Ace then looked at Trevor. "We need to get him out." Trevor nodded, looking to be in thought. "But how. We don't know where he is. He went alone to get some easy information." Ace nodded. "I think he's up north." Trevor frowned. "Why?" Ace hummed. "It is 8am, but the sun is high in the sky, like it was noon. Maybe Daisuke knows something. I'll head to him. I'll have Dust grab you if I find out anything." Ace was then gone in black smoke.

Whitebeard looked at Trevor. "Think he will be fine?" Trevor sighed. "Maybe. Hopefully, no one there knows morse." Whitebeard frowned. "Morse?" Trevor nodded. "Yes, the blinking, it's morse code." Whitebeard nodded, that made sense. Trevor sighed. "I just hope Daisuke knows something. I like Soul." Whitebeard nodded, he did too. He seemed like a good man. It was half an hour later Dust showed up, and Trevor looked at the bird. "Ace got a lead?" The bird nodded, before the bird moved to Trevor's shoulder, and Trevor nodded, holding a hand out to Mika, who walked over, and the two disappeared in black smoke. Now, they just needed to wait.

It took four hours, but there was soon a large cloud of black smoke, and Mika, Trevor, Ace, and Soul appeared, that was good. Soul was fine. He did look a bit beaten up, but fine. So, Trevor headed to the infirmary with Soul, and as they were gone, he looked at Ace. "Soul is fine?" Ace nodded. "Yes, just a bit beaten up. He'll be fine." That was good to hear. Soul was away for some time, and when he appeared a few hours later, probably sleeping a bit he thought, either that or Bay needed to have a small surgery, but as Soul was out, Soul gave a sigh, looking at Ace. "Can I stay here for a bit? Before I go back to work?" Ace sent a look at him, and he nodded, he didn't mind it. Ace looked back at Soul. "Sure. We don't mind it." Whitebeard nodded, he agreed. Soul probably needed a small break. And he didn't mind Soul being with them for a bit. He was a nice man.

The rest of that day went by fine, nothing special happening. When the next day came, Ace left for work in the morning, which would take a few hours, which went by fine. But when Ace returned, them being in the galley as it was lunch, he gave a look to Trevor. "Why is my room in disarray?" Trevor frowned. "What do you mean 'disarray'?" Ace hummed. "My desk items are not where they should be." Trevor gave a small chuckle. "You remember where every little thing was before you left?" Ace nodded. "Yes. Yes, I do. So why." Trevor shrugged, not saying anything.

Ace sighed, before Ace moved a hand to Trevor's chin, making Trevor look at Ace. "What do you know?" Trevor swallowed. "Soul broke into your room." Ace turned to look at Soul, who gasped. "Why did you tell!?" Trevor gave a hiss. "Cuz Ace is scary. Do it to him too!" Ace nodded and went over to Soul, grabbing his chin so he looked at Ace. "Why did you break into my room?" At first, Soul looked calm and collected, before fear shined in his eyes. "I needed more bullets. We have the same gun." Ace nodded, before he left, and as he had, Soul looked at Trevor. "The fuck was that?" Trevor chuckled. "The 'look at me' move. You know if you lie, he will crush your head slowly." Soul nodded. "Y-yeah, it felt like that." Whitebeard knew Ace could be scary, and to have all his attention on one person would be a bit much and would terrify most, or everyone, he was sure of it. Trevor hummed. "Even Daisuke falters. You can't win against Ace." Soul nodded slowly. "He is scary." Trevor nodded. "Oh yeah, I'm terrified of him." Whitebeard got that. Haruta frowned a bit. "Is it really that bad?" Trevor hummed. "If you want, Ace can try it on you, so you can feel it yourself." Haruta shook her head. "No, I'll take your word on it." Trevor nodded. "You should."

The rest of the day went by fine, Ace being mostly out on deck with them, a few times being away as he had some small work, but was never gone for more than an hour or two. When the next day came and they had their usual meeting, Soul joined since he was on the boat and he didn't see a reason to make him leave the meeting room. He even had some small inputs, which was nice and helped them. Soul knew a lot as he was an informant, not a full assassin. He remembers that Soul didn't want to be an assassin, but to be an informant. Soul then stayed for another two days, before Ace sent him off with Dust. He was glad Soul was fine.

The next weeks went by fine, and after 3, Trevor came running into the galley, running up to Mika. "Mika! Guess what!" Mika hummed. "You found an elephant." Trevor sighed. "Why must you do that?" Mika shrugged. "I guessed, so now you tell me the right answer." Trevor grinned with that. "We are now, from this day, officially S1!" Mika blinked. "What?! We're S1 now?!" Trevor nodded as he still grinned. "Yes! I spoke with Ace who spoke with Daisuke! We're S1!" Mika moved her hands up "Yes! We're S1! Woohoo! I've always wanted to be an S!" Trevor nodded. "Same! This is so cool!" Whitebeard blinked. "You got promoted?" Trevor and Mika nodded, the first speaking. "Yeah! We did! Our paperwork has been on spot!" Mika nodded. "But we've worked hard with that." Trevor nodded. "And it shows. We got promoted!" Trevor nodded. "Now, we need to get to S2!" Mika chuckled. "I wonder how long until there is a S6." Trevor chuckled as well. "There probably will be. Ace is growing way too fast." Mika nodded. "He is. I remember when he was just 15 and got beaten up. Now, he's the best." Trevor nodded. "Yeah, I miss young Ace. I wasn't scared of him, and he was cute." Whitebeard could understand that, but he liked this Ace, but he didn't know Ace before he was 19, or he had met him at 18, but never knew him much until he joined them. He hoped to get to know Ace even better with time.

The rest of the day went by fine, them celebrating Mika and Trevor getting promoted, and when the next day came, they had their usual meeting. And they sat in the meeting room, waiting for Ace, who was working and supposed to be back soon. They had a visitor this time, being Noah, who came yesterday, just a friend who had some information for them. But as they were sitting and waiting, a stranger came through the door. It had him frown, not sure who this was and it was a fishman. But before he could voice that, Noah spoke. "Who are you?" The stranger gave a hum. "I am Ace. You know, second commander." Whitebeard blinked. What? Noah frowned as well as the stranger sat down. "No, Ace isn't a fishman." The fishman gave a smile. "Good for you! Not seeing species." Noah frowned more, moving to the wall with the wanted posters. "If you're Ace, then explain this!" He said as he took the poster down from the wall, and he knew this ruse or prank would be over. But the stranger just gave a satisfied look to them, lifting an eyebrow, and Noah frowned, turning to look at the poster and did a double take. And Whitebeard could see the poster from there he sat, and it was the exact poster Ace had, just with the stranger instead. This was really well thought out.

Noah then stood speechless and 'Ace' gave a chuckle. "Now that that's over, Shall we move along?" They should and did. And this fake Ace had a lot of useful information, it was as if Ace was here. What had made it even more impressive, was how Marco had even given a small kiss to this 'Ace'. The meeting then went on fine, and when they were halfway, Noah left to get something, and 'Ace' gave a look to them. "I am Otto. Ace is in some business thing." That made sense. As Noah was gone, the real Ace came into the meeting room, giving a look to them. "How fun was this?" Thatch whistled. "It was awesome!" It was. Ace then went over to the poster wall and took down the fake poster and put his real one up, before he looked at Otto. "Thank you so much for your help. I'll speak to you later." Otto nodded and Ace sent him off with Dust, and took his seat.

Then it was just a minute until Noah came back in, and when he did, he gave a look to Ace. "Who're you?" Ace frowned. "Ace. For heaven's sake! I've been here for almost this entire meeting!" Noah frowned, before he moved to the wanted posters. "No! This is Ace!" He said as he grabbed the poster to Ace and showed it, and Ace just lifted an eyebrow, and when Noah looked at it and did another doubletake. "How! You were a fishman!" Ace frowned. "What made you believe that?" Noah moved his hands to his head. "Because you were a fishman! Oh my God! I am going insane!" Ace hummed. "Well, it does seem like that." Noah looked lost with that, and upset. This was a really well thought out prank. Noah then left upset, and Ace chuckled, looking at them. "Thanks for playing along." Whitebeard shook his head a bit with a chuckle. "It was fun." It really had been. They then did the last of the meeting, before they went on with their day as usual.

-x-

Whitebeard sat out on deck, enjoying a sunny day. They had just docked and would be on this island for about 2 days, before they headed on again. But as they were on the island, a stranger came on board, who seemed to know Trevor and Mika, probably Ace too, but he was working. He didn't mind friends of the assassins dropping by. His name was Oliver and he wasn't an assassin based on Trevor, just a low key informant. But as Ace returned an hour later, Ace gave a look to Oliver. "Why are you wearing glasses?" Oliver lifted an eyebrow. "Cuz I need them. Duh." Ace sighed. "You're such an attention whore. You don't need them. Take them off." Oliver rolled his eyes. "It's not my fault I read and know so much so I need glasses." Ace shook his head. "Not how glasses work. You don't need them based on how much you read. And you read? Yeah right. You only read things with pictures." Oliver gave a look to Ace. "I don't. I am highly educated. I am even thinking of starting my own book." Ace shook his head. "Don't believe it until I see it." Oliver gave a look. "I will do it." Ace just rolled his eyes.

The day then went on normally, Ace saying a few more times to Oliver to take his glasses off, which he did not. Ace had said they didn't even have glasses, they were just frames with normal glass, not with real glass with strength, which Oliver had denied, but didn't let anyone close to them to check, making him believe Ace was right, that it was fake. He didn't know why one would fake that, but Ace had once said "you're doing this just to seem smart, which you're not," to which the man had said he was smart. And after that interaction, he noticed Oliver often either mentioning his glasses or playing with them when he spoke, as if wanting people to see them. It was just weird.

But when the next day came, which also was a good weather day, Ace came out on deck, whistling a happy tune, a bat in hand. It had Jozu frowning. "What are you doing with that bat?" Ace hummed. "Nothing." Then Ace headed over to Oliver, who was writing something and didn't notice Ace somehow. Ace then lined the bat up with Oliver's face, and Whitebeard got what this was about and was about to speak up, when Ace did. "Oliver?" Oliver hummed and raised his head, and as he did, Ace smashed the bat into his face. And Oliver fell down to the deck screaming. "There's glass in my eyes!" In pain. Ace hummed. "Bay's ready to see you." Then he left whistling.

As Ace was gone, someone helped Oliver to Bay, and Trevor chuckled. "You always listen to Ace. If not, he will fuck you up." That was clear and Whitebeard had no idea how to even react to this. Trevor was taking this way too calmly in his mind. Ace just bashed someone's face in since he wore glasses he probably didn't need. It was harsh.

It was half an hour later they all headed to the meeting room, and when they were seated, Whitebeard looked at Ace. "Did you have to do that to Oliver?" Ace nodded. "Yes, yes I did. He deserved it." Whitebeard didn't feel like that. Haruta gave a small sound. "Why not just take his glasses away and break them?" Ace hummed. "Cuz he would get new ones. This was the best solution." Thatch clapped his hands. "He legit just wore glasses he didn't need. Why bash his face in!" Ace hummed. "Because I didn't. I just smashed his glasses. if I smashed his face, he would be worse off." That was probably true. "And," continued Ace, "I don't like him much. He gets on my nerves." Trevor chuckled. "You don't want to be a person who gets on Ace's nerves." That was clear and true. Ace was terrifying.

The next hours went by fine, and when they had passed, Trevor came from around a corner. "Oliver is fine. Just some minor eye issues that will last." That was good, that he was mostly fine. When 3 hours had passed, Oliver came back out, and when he did, he had on sunglasses, saying he needed them since his eyes were injured. And when Ace appeared, Oliver crossed his arms. "Now, you gonna do the same to these glasses?" Ace hummed. "Nah, you need those." Oliver gave a glare. "Because of you!" Ace shook his head. "No, you chose this. I said to take them off." Oliver glared. "You're an ass!" Ace shrugged, not saying anything.

Oliver then stayed with them for another day, which he found daring, but he had a feeling this wasn't the first time Oliver had pulled something like this. When he did leave and went on with his life, he was still annoyed with Ace, which was understandable. Everyone was a bit wary of Ace after that, but it passed after a few days, which was good.

Whitebeard sat in the meeting room, everyone present, including Squardo, who had just gone on and on about how he hated Roger, and had just found out Ace was the son of said man, having overheard it from someone, and went on about how he hated Ace as well. But as he had spoken, Ace frowned. "Wait. What? You need to say that again." Said Ace, looking at Squardo, who got a frown, same with many of them. Did Ace need to hear it again? Squardo had been way forward, a bit more than the captain liked. Squardo gave a look to Ace, looking to be a half-glare as he didn't like the information he got. "I don't like you, since Gol D Roger was your father, so I don't want to be in your division anymore." Ace had a confused look for a second, before speaking. "You're telling me that you are okay with me being an assassin, but not the fact that Roger was my father?" Squardo gave a nod. Ace moved his hands as he spoke. "So, the fact I kill people, dragging their guts out and hanging them from the ceiling, is fine. But, the fact a man, whom I didn't even know, was my father, that's the reason you don't like me?"

Ace moved the hand to his cheek, shaking his head. "I don't get how that makes sense. It baffles me. I kill people daily, and that's fine. But, God forbid a random man you don't like happens to be my father. It doesn't make sense." Ace looked at Trevor who sat beside him. "Does this make sense to you?" Trevor shook his head, looking just as baffled at Ace. "No, I'm just waiting for someone to say this is a joke or something. People can't be okay with you being an assassin, but hating you because of Roger being your father. That does not make sense."

Trevor looked at Squardo. "You really don't like Ace because of that? That's the reason? He's Roger's kid? It's not just something to cover the fact you don't like he's an assassin? Because that would make so much more sense." Squardo nodded. "I hated Roger, he was an awful man." Trevor motion towards Ace. "How is that Ace's fault! I don't get that!"

Ace shook his head, doing a small motion towards Squardo. "It's fine by me if you want to change divisions, or leave because you don't like me. People usually don't like me. I'm just trying to figure out how that can be your reason." Ace made a motion towards Thatch. "That would be just as weird if I decided I didn't like Thatch since his parents are nobles. He hasn't done anything wrong, but I still don't like him." Squardo frowned. "That's not the same." Trevor lifted his hands, looking shocked and confused. "How is that not the same?! It's exactly the same!" Trevor looked at Ace. "It makes no sense!"

Ace shook his head, giving a shrug. "I'm okay with it. I just don't get it either. You can join whichever division you want to if it's fine by them." Squardo blinked. "Just like that? You're okay with it?" Ace shrugged. "I'm used to people not liking me. I am an assassin. I'm more baffled by the reason. Never heard that one in a long time, and that was from people who didn't know the man. It's just baffling to me." Squardo gave a nod, still not looking happy at the assassin. Whitebeard would still speak to Squardo later, telling him to get over his anger at Roger, or at least not take it out on Ace; it was wrong to do that.

It was decided that Squardo would join the fifteenth division, seeing as he knew how to build ships and such. Whitebeard had a feeling Fossa would speak to Squardo about not liking Ace because of his father based on the man's look. They knew to look past the faults and pasts of people, so this was really wrong of Squardo to say. Whitebeard was still saddened to see Ace so used to not being liked. He would be sure to keep an eye on Squardo, and it seemed like the others would too, in case the dislike stayed.

If it did, Squardo wouldn't stay on the ship. They didn't tolerate people not liking or hating people for stuff like this. But, he was willing to give Squardo a chance. But just one chance. He wouldn't take any bad mouthing or acting towards Ace just because his father was Roger. Ace didn't seem to care about it, but it was a bit true what he had said, he was used to people not liking him. It was still saddening to see that Ace was this used to it. But, he would do his best to give Ace a place to belong, where he knew no one was against him.
