Chapter 6: High Voltage

A few weeks have passed since the attack by the self-styled supervillain "The Rhino". A dangerous criminal who was fused into combat armor with a rhinoceros-like design. Luckily for the people of New Bubble York, Spider-Guppy managed to defeat him and hand him over to the police. This attack, together with the Vulture attack, began to cause concern among citizens and authorities. Crime has begun to develop more dangerous methods due to the presence of the masked superhero. On the other hand, many people fervently believe that Spider-Guppy has improved things, since crime has also gone down. We can say that it is a strange stage in security. However, many live confidently knowing that the masked superhero is watching the city at all times.

To begin with the story of this chapter we will focus on the life of an ordinary person. He was a young adult guppy with dark skin and short black hair and wearing reading glasses. His tail was yellow with diagonal green stripes. The boy was preparing his things to go to the workplace. That man was an employee of the great company Oscorp. He was walking through the front desk when he ran into three co-workers waiting for him.

"Hello, Max! We were waiting for you, friend!" A crab worker said with a not very nice tone.

"Hehehe H..Hi, guys" Max said nervously.

"Let me help you with your things" A blue fish worker took his portfolios and papers.

"Oh hehe Th..Thanks, guys. But I can…" The guppy was nervous until the fish threw his things on the floor.

"Whoops…my bad….Butterfingers" The fish laughed.

"Good joke, friend. But I would like us not to "play" today. Well, today is a special day for me...Today is my birthday" The black-haired guppy said shyly.

"Oh! You could have said it earlier, birthday boy! Guys, let's take him to the bathroom and put his head in the toilet! I'll bring the leftovers from the cafeteria. This will be fun!" The crab man said evilly. His two friends took him quickly.

"Pl…Please! Not today! I need to look good for my...birthday celebration...with my friends" Max said scaredly.

"Friends? Which friends? If no one loves you! You are a weirdo and you have no friends!" The crab said cruelly. Before they could do anything else to him, someone came to where they were.

"Why don't you leave him alone, bullies?"

"Huh?!" All of them decided to see who was the person who dared to intervene.

"Oh! Nonny! What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in your lab?" The crab asked nervously.

"And you shouldn't be in the administrative offices? I recommend that you leave that boy alone...or else..." Nonny said seriously.

"...Or else what?" The crab tried to be rude. But Nonny never freaked out.

"Do you want me to report this situation to Norman Osborn himself?" Nonny threatened him. The crab tried to approach him, but his other friend stopped him.

"Hey, man. Do not mess with him. Do you know who he is? Nonny Octavius, Norman Osborn's ward. He is one of his favorites! If we mess with him, we have everything to lose. I don't want to be out of a job" One of his friends said scaredly.

"Me neither" The fish added and he let Max go. Nonny just crossed his arms.

"Grrrrrr you win, nerd" The crab decided to left them.

"And don't mess with him again... I know why I'm telling you" Nonny advised them. Some seconds later, he decided to talk with his new friend.

"Wow! That was incredible!" Max said happily.

"I couldn't stay without doing anything. I know how it feels to be bullied. In high school it happened to me. Between nerds we protect ourselves" Nonny said with a tiny smile.

"Very well said. Hey by the way...My name is Maxwell Dillon...But my friends call me "Max"...If only I had friends" Max said nervously.

"Im Nonny Octavius, just call me Nonny" They shook hands.

"I know! You are quite a celebrity among the young scientific community! It is an honor to see you! I know we work in the same company but in different departments. That's why I never talked to you. Because I work as an electrical engineer" The dark-skinned guppy said very excitedly.

"Wow! That's pretty good…..And you really don't have any friends?" Nonny asked a little worried.

"Well….Not really….Im very freak….And know? It's my birthday...and guess who I'm going to celebrate it with? Well, alone" Max said nervously.

"Really? And your….parents…." Nonny was worried.

"Dad never loved us and left. And mom is crazy and when I turned 18 I left home. And the truth is that I'm bad at talking to people. I've always been lonely since I was a child" He told him a little about his past.

"It seems that we are not so different after all. Hey, no one deserves to be alone on their birthday. Would you like to go celebrate your birthday with me and one more friend?" Nonny said with a gentle tone.

"Wait! Do you really want to be my friend?" He was shocked.

"It could be said yes" Nonny answered "After closing we will meet with my friend. She is a special friend to me and I want you to meet her. We're going to celebrate your birthday. What do you say?"

"I…I…OF COURSE!" Max said happily before he checked his clock "MY GOODNESS! I'm late! See you!" He ran away.

"See you!" Nonny waved at him.

The young engineer came to do his daily work but this time with a big smile on his face. He was glad to meet someone who really wanted to be his friend. It seems that those lonely days were over. However, one event that day would change his life forever. And it didn't mean a good thing. While Max was working with some electrical transformers, we can see a mysterious silhouette supervising the work he was doing.

"You are a good man, Max. It would be a shame if some "unfortunate accident" happened to you just now" The subject said before using the console to make some dangerous configurations. He just made it look like it was an accident and he left without anyone being able to recognize him.

"Danger: High Voltage Levels

Increased Radioactivity Levels"

"WHAT?! NO! NOOO! TURN THAT THING OFF, PLEASE! I'M INSIDE!" Max started crying out for help. Some staff members noticed the surge in electrical currents and some people tried to open the doors to get Max out, but they were sealed. Some tried to disable the consoles, but it was useless.

"What's going on?" It was Norman Osborn himself, upset by the security alarm and the chaos.

"Mr. Osborn, voltage levels are high and radioactivity has increased. We must evacuate the building immediately" One of the scientists said in alarm.

"Evacuate personnel immediately!" Norman ordered seriously.

"Max is trapped in the transformer. I'm going to manipulate the console!" Nonny said bravery.

"Get out of there, Nonny!" The red-haired man ordered.

"I'm not leaving without Max!" Nonny started using the computers and did everything he could to shut down systems and restart operators in hopes of stopping the generators. All this while everyone else was being evacuated from the building. Unfortunately, the levels were very unstable and the electrical charges began to pierce Max's body.

"AAAAAHHHHHH!"

"MAX!"

A huge explosion occurred in a short time. Nonny was thrown violently by the blast wave and the boy ended up on the ground. A little injured but without any fatal condition. Some time later he got up from the ground and noticed how the building was full of firefighters and paramedics.

"Ugh….Ugh…." The orange-haired guppy got up slowly and quickly wanted to go back to where the generators were, praying to find his new friend alive "M…Max…" As he walked, someone grabbed his shoulder, stopping him.

"Nonny! Thank heaven I found you. Are you OK?" It was Norman with a worrying tone of voice.

"Im okay, Mr. Osborn….What happened to Max?" Nonny asked. The red-haired man closed his eyes and turned to look away. His gesture said it all. Nonny looked down. No more words were necessary to know what happened.

"I'm so sorry, Nonny. I know you did everything you could" Norman decided to comfort him patting his back.

We will focus on an unpleasant place. It was a morgue. That place where they took the dead people. We will see some forensic doctors bringing the body of a person wrapped in a black bag. When it was time for the analysis, they opened the bag and we can see that it was Max. Everything seemed that he had died.

"His name: Maxwell Dillon. Cause of death: Electrocution. Ironic, an electrical engineer killed by electricity" One of the doctors said.

"It's sad. I have tried to contact a relative and no one wants to claim the body. It seems that we have left to incinerate it" Another doctor commented.

"The good thing is that this will be fast then" The other doctor added. What they were not noticing is that the electrical devices were not responding correctly. Neither the computers nor the nearby cell phones were working properly.

"Huh?! Nothing is working. It will be necessary to report problems with the internet connection" One of them noticed.

"I do not think it's that. The lights are also failing. I think it's a problem with the electrical current. Need to call an electrician soon" One of the coroners commented.

"Im on it" The other one replied. He thought about taking the cell phone when he noticed that the phone was not working. The environment felt quite strange because the static levels were gradually increasing. In this way, the devices began to fail "What the…?"

"What's going on?!"

"We have to get out of here!" One of them said before something horrible happened.

"GGGGRRROOOAAAAHHHH!"

Max's body began to move spontaneously and his body began to absorb all the electrical current that was in the environment. They were all scared by what they were seeing. The whole place started flying sparks everywhere and Max finally got up from the stretcher and terrifyingly, he opened his eyes. His body was completely yellow and covered in electrical energy. He had become a mutant made of electricity.

"NOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Max could not contain his anger, therefore, he could not control his power and released a huge electrical blast that annihilated all the people who were near him and caused a large electrical accident, leaving an important area of the city in the dark. Something had awakened in that boy.

A new day came and things at Oscorp seemed to be back to normal. Or at least that's what Norman Osborn was looking for. Although almost everyone pretended to forget the incident that happened days before, there was one boy who couldn't forget what had happened. and that someone was Nonny Octavius. He was in his lab working on his project that he was to present at an important conference. Evidently, he was working on his biggest project: The mechanical arms. Although the progress was notorious, it still had many things to improve due to the destruction of the previous model. While he was working, he received a call from reception.

"Greetings, Nonny Octavius speaking" He answered the call.

"Young Octavius, a girl is asking for you here at reception" The woman said in the call.

"Hmmm Is it a purple haired girl with pigtails?" Nonny asked curiously.

"Precisely. Is she a friend of yours?" The receptionist asked.

"Of course. Tell her that I'm on my way" Saying that, the young scientist decided to hang up the call and quickly went to receive his visit, but not before verifying that everything was in order in the laboratory and closed it safely. A few minutes later, the boy saw that his friend was waiting for her.

"Nonny! I'm so glad to see you. A lot of time has passed" Oona hugged him tightly, He hugged back and they separated a short time later to prevent the boy from suffocating.

"Oh hi! What are you doing here?" Nonny asked kindly.

"Did you forget that we were going out today? We were going to eat outside" The asian girl recalled.

" Oh…Yeah….Sorry if I forgot. Some things happened here...that I shouldn't say here" Nonny said it with a low tone of voice. He tried to avoid anybody else who could hear him "Let's talk outside…"

Quickly, they both decided to go out together to find a quiet place in the big city. Due to the trust that existed between Nonny and Norman Osborn, he had no problem with leaving for a moment. The young couple decided to buy two cups of coffee and pastries to eat together at an outdoor cafe. Nonny trusted her, because she was his best friend (with some sentimental interest involved) for a long time. Therefore, he told her about his incident with his partner Max.

"So... Is Max dead?" Oona asked worriedly. The orange haired boy was unable to say a single word. He simply closed his eyes and looked down.

"(sigh) It was my fault. I could have saved his life. I tried to stop those systems but..." He blamed himself for Max's accident. Because he was close to saving him. His friend interrupted him by putting her hand on his shoulder to calm him down.

"It's not your fault. I know you did everything you could and I admire you for that. No one would do that for a guy you didn't know at all. That really was admirable" Oona comforted him.

"I guess so. It's a big pity. He had no family and friends. I was his first friend. And I wanted you to meet him so that we could be his friends. Unfortunately, he will no longer be able to" Nonny replied with his sadness.

"At least...he met you and you made him happy on his last day. I bet he's in a better place…" The girl was trying to calm her friend down until something interrupted them. They began to notice that the city's electrical system began to fail. Public lights, billboards, and public televisions began to flash on and off intensely. In the center of the city, where the couple was spending time, a mysterious figure appeared. He was a guppy made of pure electricity.

"GRRRAAAAHHHH!"

All the people who were there began to run in fear and panic broke out. The mysterious subject fired electrical charges throughout the city without any control. The threat was very high, so in a short time the police arrived with the intention of arresting him with their weapons. But they were defeated by electric shots.

"What shall we do, boss?" One agent asked worriedly.

"Prepare a perimeter and get people to safety. I called the SWAT team. We must prevent him from leaving this area" Captain Stacy ordered. It was the captain of the police. He was a blond adult male guppy with blue eyes. Deema Stacy's father.

"Roger!" Another police officer answered.

"GRRUUAAHH!" The electric man screamed loudly.

"Wait...That voice...Oona, it's him" Nonny was surprised. He identified the voice of his old colleague.

"Wh..What? Is he….?" Oona tried to ask him. But immediately, Nonny ran towards the electric man "Nonny! Nonny, wait!"

"GRAAAAHHH"

"MAX! MAX!" Nonny called him.

"HUH?!" The subject stopped when he saw Nonny. He managed to identify him.

"Ceasefire! There is a civilian! I repeat! There is a civilian!" The captain ordered. All the officers stopped their firing when they saw that the young Octavius entered the risk zone. He was face to face with Max.

"Max….Is that you Max? It's me, Nonny. Your friend. Nobody will hurt you" He started trying to calm him down.

"N..Nonny! You are here!" Max said happily to see his friend.

"It can't be...You survived the accident. And that genetically mutated you...It is not possible" The ginger haired guppy said surprisedly.

"I know. I didn't expect this either. Just look at me" The electric guppy answered.

"Listen, friend...I want you to come with me. I can help you. I can start researching a cure so you can go back to the boy you were before….Youll be safe" Nonny tried to convince him. The police didn't dare do anything as long as Nonny was still in their sights. A few seconds of very tense silence passed. Nobody said anything until an unpleasant laugh was heard.

"Ha…Ha…HA! ME? Go back to being the same as before? HAHAHA I don't think so, friend. I love this new me. This power...I love it!" Max said with a sinister voice.

"Max, it is not safe that you are in that condition. Let me help you" Nonny tried to calm him.

"I do not need help. Before I was a loser and no one cared about me. Now look! Now everyone sees me, I won't be the laughingstock of anyone else. Those who laughed at me now fear me... Or at least, they feared me…." He smiled evilly.

"No! No Max! Did you...?" Nonny started to fear.

"Those foolish classmates who made fun of me and my abusive mother...will never harm me again" He commented about his actions to them.

"Friend, please! I only want to help you. It is not too late to get back on the right path. Don't become..." The young Octavius insisted.

"Become what? A monster? You were going to say that, weren't you? Well, if turning into a monster will make them stop treating me like garbage... So be it! I will not be weak again...ever!" Good old Max was dead now.

"Max, No!" Nonny shouted worriedly.

"BEGONE!" In an act of evil, Max decided to shoot Nonny with a powerful electric shock.

"NOOOO!" Oona screamed with terror. Nonny was about to get hit. But at that very moment, a mysterious spider web caught the orange-haired boy from behind and someone pulled him from behind, preventing the electric shot from damaging him. Looks like someone showed up.

"Someone called a spider electrician?"

"Spider-Guppy!" Nonny and Oona said at the same time. Finally, our hero has arrived!

"Look who came to ruin my party. But if it's Spider-Guppy! Shouldn't you stop cheap thieves or something?" Max said sarcastically.

"You know? I also have jurisdiction to stop crazy people with superpowers" Spider-Guppy said confidently.

"You're not going to ruin my moment of glory, wall-crawler!" Max prepared himself for a battle. Our protagonist also prepared his battle stance.

"Spider-Guppy, please don't be hard on him. Max just needs help. I can help him" Nonny said.

"Max, Max, Max, MAX! I hate that name! I'm not Max Dillon anymore! NO MORE!" He said it angrily.

"And now what are you going to call yourself? Sparky?" Spider-Guppy mocked him a bit.

"No, that name is pathetic. Now...I am...I AM ELECTRO!" He embraced his new identity. Now, he proclaims himself the villain with the name with that scream, he released an electrical shock wave that violently pushed all the people who were near him. Including Nonny and Spider-Guppy. Luckily, it did not cause them serious damage.

"Ugh! So that's how things will be. Boy, get out of here. It's time to turn off the power" Spider-Guppy told Nonny to get out. Which the boy obeyed to save his friend Oona. And with this, the battle has begun.

Spider-Guppy vs. Electro! The new supervillain started shooting dangerous electric shocks towards our hero. Thanks to his superhuman agility and his use of his web shooter, he managed to dodge the electrical attacks. Electro could also fly, so he would get close to Spider-Guppy to hit him and attack him. In that confrontation, the masked hero managed to punch him in the face, which would be a bad idea.

"AGH!" Gil screamed in pain. Direct contact caused a strong electric shock to injure Gil

"You forgot it? I am made of pure electricity!" Electro smirked and he decided to punch him in his face. The blow was so powerful that it not only gave the hero another shock, but knocked him away and collided with a wall. The combat became dangerous for our hero. Thanks to superhuman stamina, the hero managed to recover from shocks that would normally leave a normal person hospitalized. However, he couldn't let his guard down. Any hit or other direct attack from Electro could be fatal. Gil did not have many options and he only had to dodge his attacks and save the people who were near him.

"There is no way to beat him. His body is made of an unstoppable force of nature... How can I counter it?" Gil asked himself. He started to think of something he can use against him.

"Take this!" Electro managed to land an electric shot at his opponent.

"AAGHH!" Spider-Guppy went down weakened by the shocks he had received in combat.

"You really are a bother to me. And I don't like to be bothered. Do you know what happens to those who annoy me?" Electro threatened him and he prepared his hand to shoot his electric shock. Spider-Guppy was weakened and couldn't get up fast. This was Electro's chance to finish him off once and for all. When he was ready, a shot was heard.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

It was the police chief, Captain Stacy. He started shooting at him repeatedly with his revolver. Obviously, being a guppy made of electricity, his bullets only tickled him.

"Stay away!" He said it loudly.

"Hmm. Brave but stupid. I better kill you first" Electro turned to face the officer and extended his hand to charge up his electric attack. His mistake was losing sight of Spider-Guppy. Well, the spider hero decided to shoot his web towards Electro's hand. That caused him to stick to the web. He didn't give Electro time to react and used his superhuman strength to violently throw him against a stone wall. Which caused him good damage "Ugh!"

"Thanks, captain! But get out of here. I'll take care of Sparky" Spider-Guppy said funnily.

"I'm Electro!" He shouted angrily and he started to shoot his electrical shocks at him. But Gil evaded them. As Max shot at him constantly, Gil began to analyze something peculiar in his behavior. Each time, he accumulated more energy. And he suspected what would be the cause. Electro was getting more and more frustrated when he saw that she couldn't finish him off. There, Gil understood it.

"That is! His power is very unstable and his emotions only make it worse. I can use that to my advantage. But I must do it right, or it will kill me and everyone in its path" Gil commented with a low tone of voice. In this way, his enemy could not hear him.

"Why don't you die?!" Electro started to get angrier.

"Maybe because you have the same aim as a Stormtrooper" Spider-Guppy wanted to provoke him with his jokes and sarcasm.

"Die! Die! DIE!" Electro shot uncontrollably without being able to hit the shot against his enemy. Besides, his body was beginning to overload more energy than it should.

"If you want to finish me... come for me!" Gil decided to provoke him and in this way, he began to swing through the city to escape from him. This caused a lot of anger and frustration in Electro and he quickly flew towards him while continuing to shoot him with electric shocks. Spider-Guppy had a brilliant idea and decided to lure him to an unusual place. It was a Sports Center, where there was a huge full Olympic pool. Spider-Guppy made sure no one was on the premises. Finally, Electro found him.

"GOT YOU!" Electro fired at him, but he managed to avoid it. And so the second round would begin. Although the battle would not last long, it was more intense than the previous one. The masked hero only dodged electric shocks thanks to his acrobatics and the use of his web shooter. And not only that, every time Electro missed a shot, he would get angrier and more electricity would overload. The battle was very intense, until Gil decided to execute the final blow on him. Gil decided to shoot two web lases to catch him.

"Sorry electric boy...but it's time to be the Spider-electrician" Saying that, he used all his strength to throw him into the Olympic size pool. Which was evidently full of water. Electro was submerged in water as a living electric battery. As the water is electrically conductive, this only overloaded Max so much that he himself suffered damage and a huge electrical charge erupted in the pool.

"AAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHH!" A lot of smoke came out of the pool. Spider-Guppy, worried about the state of his rival, approached the pool. But he noticed that everything was full of static. The water completely evaporated and only Max's electrically overloaded body was visible. Luckily, he was unconscious, but it was obvious that he was still a threat by possessing said powers. Spider-Guppy decided to keep an eye on him while the police arrived.

The police arrived at the scene and found Electro defeated and without an electric charge. For this special criminal, Oscorp provided an insulated suit for Max to wear. With that plastic suit, he couldn't use his powers now. In this way, the police decided to take him to prison. At the place of the arrest, two characters we know were witnesses.

"Max….Why?" Nonny asked himself. Oona decided to quietly comfort him by placing a hand on his shoulder.

"It's not your fault, Nonny" Oona tried to calm him.

"No….This was my fault. I failed to save him. I was able to prevent him from turning into that "electric monster" called Electro" He said it blaming himself.

"Even so...He could have done the right thing with his new abilities. With his powers, he would have been a hero like Spider-Guppy. But...he decided another way...killing those people" Oona looked away, remembering his crimes.

"I can't blame him. He had no reason to be nice to others when everyone treated him like dirt. And I say this because I know what he suffered and I understand it...I went through similar things...And I don't know what would happen to me if I had the power to...take revenge on the people who they hurt me so much" Nonny explained. He clenched his fist. But Oona took his hand softly. He immediately calmed.

"I know. His reasons will always be understandable, but never justified. He could decide to be a better person... like you! You didn't let your hate change you...Something he should have done" Oona said tenderly. She decided to hug him. He was shocked and he blushed, but he accepted the hug.

"Oona, thank you very much. I swear on my life... that I will create a cure for Max. It is the least I can do" Nonny swore it with determination.

"And Ill always be here for you. Always" Oona said with a smile. She knew she had to support her best friend (and love interest) through this tough process for him. Without saying anything else, they both decided to retire together to return to their homes. What they didn't know is that Spider-Guppy was watching them from a public light pole. Gil overheard the conversation.

Gil began to reflect on everything that had happened. Max was a different villain. He, then, was created by the hatred and rejection of others. And Gil knew that perfectly well. He thought that, if he had wanted to, he would have used his spider powers for evil and become a monster like Max. Power could be a cause to corrupt people and get carried away by his darkest desires. Even Gil was able to continue using his powers for selfish desires. But there is one thing that differentiated Gil Parker from Max Dillon.

"With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility…..If only Max had heard that..." Gil said it while he was swinging on his webs all over the city. It certainly wasn't a very enjoyable victory for our hero. Sometimes there are bitter victories.

It's been too long since I uploaded a chapter of this story, but here I am back. A simple chapter of the hero and villain fight is enough to start my comeback. I hope I can continue working on this story because there are many good ideas to develop.
