Chapter twenty one: Cyrrilic

Whether it was night or not nobody knew down here. The illegal hospital was like an air raid shelter. Natasha was awake. Mike snoozed on a chair next to her bed.

"Are you okay?" Natasha asked.

Mike woke up.

"Huh?"

"Are you ok dad?"

"That's something I should ask to you."

Natasha looked at the IV needle in her vein and the bag of blod next to her. The second bag.

"No. No im not alright."

"Try to sleep."

Natasha looked around and whispered to her father.

"The night shift doctor with the eye patch is too scary for me."

"Don't think about his look. Sleep."

"I tried the whole night to sleep."

"Then try again."

"I think I'm not so sleepy anymore."

"Oh my..."

Mike got up.

"Where are you going?" Natasha asked scared.

"I try to find a solution so you can sleep."

Mike went into the room where the nightshift doctor was. He had an eye patch, a white coat and looked Not very friendly. He read a book in the moment Mike entered.

"Excuse me, do you have an eyemask for sleeping?" Mike asked.

The nightshift doctor opened a drawer and took out an eyemask. Without even looking away from His book, He gave it to Mike. Mike went back to Natasha and gave her the eye mask. Natasha looked at the mask in confusion.

"What is this?"

"Put that on. I hope that helps."

Natasha put on the eye mask.

"I hope it helps too."

Natasha layed down. Ten minutes later she was asleep. Lori woke up. She took her phone, went to the bathroom and washed her face. When she looked at her phone she saw that it was 2:00 in the morning.

"Shit!" Lori said annoyed.

She walked back into the hallway and saw Lucy standing in front of her.

"Why are you awake?" Lori asked.

"Why are you awake?" Lucy asked.

"Good point. Answer my question."

"I heard noises. Besides I have ears like a rat."

"True. You heard me?" "Apparently."

"Come with me Lucy."

"Where are we going?"

"In the kitchen. I need a drink."

Lori went into the kitchen. Lucy followed her silently. In the kitchen, Lori filled a glass of water and drank.

"I have to admit that there is a reason why I woke up." Lori said.

"Why?"

"I can't stop worrying about Natasha."

"Why?"

"Because... She is sick."

"I see."

"They gave her blood transfusions."

"Okay." Lucy said.

"I'm surprised you take that so well."

"She is your friend and not mine."

"Of course..."

"Sight."

"Are you tired?"

"Even a bat needs sleep."

"Okay. Come. Let's go sleeping again."

Lori took Lucy by the hand and brought Lucy to her bed. After that she went to her own bed. Whether it was day or night or tomorrow Mike didn't know. He stood up. The chair made such a loud noise that Natasha started and woke up. Natasha abruptly pulled off the eye mask and breathed extremely loudly.

"Everything is alright. Don't be scared." Mike said.

"Get used to it. You don't look really better. I think you need a night more here."

"Oh no."

The night shift doctor came to Natasha. He held a syringe with antibiotics. He stuck the needle into Natasha's vein, and injected the antibiotic. Natasha made a pained noise. The night shift doctor went back into the next room. At that moment, the doctor who had treated Natasha first entered the room. He held a box filled to the brim with syringes. Clean and sterile packed syringes with antibiotics and solutions containing white blood cells. He handed the box to Mike.

"One shot of the antibiotics and the blood cell solution a day for up to a month. So you can treat them at home."

"Thanks doctor." said Mike.

"A month? Oh man." said Natasha.

"That's only because you touched a radiation source!" Mike said.

Natasha grumbled.

"Come. Let's go home."

Natasha pulled out the IV needle, and the doctor Put a plaster there. Mike helped Natasha get up and they walked up the stairs out of the basement with them. Lori woke up. She got up and went to the toilet. After washing her hands and her morning routine, she went downstairs to the kitchen. Rita, Lynn Senior, Lola and Lana, and Lily were in the kitchen eating breakfast.

"Lo'i." said Lily.

The twins also greeted Lori. Lori stroked the twins on the head and kissed Lily on the forehead.

"Lori! Don't touch my hair!" Lola said annoyed.

"Get used to it." Lori said.

Lola continued to eat her pancakes, annoyed. Good morning Lori." Lynn Senior said.

"Good morning." Rita Said quietly.

"Good morning Mom and Dad."

Lori sat down and Lynn Senior placed a plate of pancakes with syrup in front of her.

"Bon appétit. How did you sleep?" asked Lynn Sr.

"Bad."

"Why bad?"

"Im worried about Natasha. She got sick."

"She sure gets healthy again."

"Im planning to visit her."

"Good Idea. I hope your presence makes her Recovery faster."

"I will."

Lori finished her breakfast and half an hour later made her way to Natasha's. When Lori got to the Stevensons' house, she knocked, and less than ten seconds later Mike opened the door.

"Good that you are here. Natasha wants you to stay with her."

"Shall I go straight to her?"

"Yes. She would be happy."

Lori went to Natasha's room. Natasha was lying on the bed, looking tired and powerless.

"Hi Lori. How do I look?" Natasha asked quietly.

"Terrible." Lori answered.

"Good. Because I feel dead."

"Did the doctor nothing?"

"He did what was possible. But that aint much you can do against ARS."

"What was he able to do?"

"That what you saw."

"That wasn't much."

"Can you stay here again?"

"Surely later. I have to go to your father quickly. Maybe he could use my help too."

"If you have time get something to read for me." Natasha said.

"Okay. Are you bored?"

"Yes."

"I look what I can do."

Lori left. Mike was sitting on the sofa reading documents that were in a folder. Lori went to him.

"Hi Mike. I hope the night in this basement hospital wasn't to bad."

"More or less. To sleep less if you ask me."

"Oh thats bad. Sleeping is so important."

"Yes. That's something you realize when you get older and start working. Anyway. Could you do me a favor?"

"Sure. What is it?"

"Go in the basement and take a look at the Uranium fuel Elements and at the core."

"Oh uh. Okay. I'll do it."

Lori went down to the basement and entered the lab. She took one of the army Geiger counters and walked over to the yellow barrel with the black radiation warning sign. Lori opened it and saw the fuel elements. She held the Geiger counter over the barrel. The Geiger counter started clicking. Lori saw nothing unusual. She closed the barrel and went to the container that held the plutonium core. Lori stopped. She thought about Natasha. What happend to her.

"Should I open it?" Lori asked herself.

Lori touched the locking mechanism of the Container. She remebered something Mike or Natasha said to her.

"Keep the dose low."

Lori opened, and in that Moment the geigercounter startet clicking like crazy. Lori saw the silver sphere with the writing "Drop and Run" On it. The sphere seemed okay. Lori closed the Container and the geigercounter went silent again. Lori put down the Geiger counter. She walked out of the lab and wanted to leave the basement. However, her foot struck a dusty cardboard box. Lori would have simply forgotten the box. But something caught her attention. The documents in the box were not written in the classical alphabet, but in Cyrillic.

"What's that?" Lori took a little book with the writing "Проект атомной бомбы на озере".

"Is this russian?" Lori asked confused.

Lori opened the book and looked at the page. But everything was Russian.

"Oh hell. What a strange alphabet."

Lori kept Reading. But she understood nothing.

"What? Is that P a P or something else?"

Lori looked at the letters and words. Maybe Natasha understood what was written there. She was fluent in Russian. Lori went up the stairs and entered Natasha's room. Lori enters Natasha's room.

"Hey you asked for something to read, right?" Lori asked.

"Yes."

"I found something. And its in russian. And you understand russian."

"Yes because my mother was a quarter russian."

Lori showed Natasha the book.

"So you understand that?"

"First, where did you get this book?"

"I found it in the basement."

"I see. Show me."

Lori gave Natasha the book. Natasha froze, and then jumped up cheering.

"What's going on?" Lori asked surprised.

"Lori you are a genius!"

"Why? What?"

"Lori, my mother made notes in this book. About the bombs and the guys we chase." "What do you mean by this?"

"My mother knew everything 16 years ago."

"Yeah!!!"

Lori yelled, and hugged Natasha very happy. But then she stopped abruptly. Because something got in her mind.

"Wait, are you able to translate all of this book?"

"I have to try because I am not so good with Reading in Russian."

"But you can, right?"

"Yes. I can."

"Perfect. Is there something I can do?"

"First, stay here. We are here safe. But first, get your rifle. And the bullets."

"Okay. Why?"

"Because I think That soon our ways become dirty and full of blood."
