Happy Birthday

Zeref looked at his calendar while stuck in a meeting with his Spriggen 12. He knew he should be listening to them, but he just couldn't bring himself to care. He was too busy thinking of what he was going to do to - correction: for - Natsu's birthday. It was tomorrow, so he had to plan quickly.

"You're highness, are you listening?" asked Invel. Zeref looked over to the ice mage.

"No, not really." He laid his head in his hand then. "I doubt it was anything important anyway," he replied with a bored smile. His 12 strongest fighters stared at him in astonishment, not that he cared. He got up from his chair and smiled innocently. "Well, if you don't mind, I have more important things to be working on." He turned and walked away. 'Like pranking my brother on his birthday,' he thought with a demented grin stretching across his lips.

Natsu was sleeping, not knowing that Zeref paid him a visit again late in the night. He was relaxed and warm under his covers, wishing he didn't have to get up, but he needed to go to the guild and look for a job. So with a groan and stretch, Natsu opened his green eyes.

The dragon slayer sat up in his hammock, but just before he was going to jump down he noticed something was very wrong. Not only was the floor looking to be a lot further away, but his hammock also appeared to be bigger. This freaked him out a little. He couldn't understand what happened.

'Did I shrink or something?' he thought. 'Zeref wouldn't prank me twice in one week, would he?' Zeref had pranked him just three days ago. The prank had something to do with carrots. Everything Natsu ate tasted like carrots, and he hated carrots. So it was a very cruel prank.

He looked around to see if he could find a note. It didn't take him long to find it. It was laid out on top of his blanket at the foot of the hammock. He reached out with a red, clawed paw to grab- PAUSE! Natsu doubled back and looked down at his arm. Yup, it was red, scaly, and clawed - like a dragon's.

He didn't bother to pull back to take a closer look, he just continued toward the note. He picked it up and read it with dread pumping through his bloodstream.

Happy Birthday, Natsu! I know you like dragons, so I turned you into one for the day as a present. To make sure it will drive you nuts still, I made sure that you are tiny. - Zeref

Natsu quickly jumped off his hammock and ran over to his mirror to see just how small he was. Zeref wasn't kidding. Natsu found that he was about the size of a chameleon. He was mostly red, with a black underbelly and black webbing on his tiny wings. The wings were too small for him to fly with, so he wasn't even going to try. He had two sets of horns on his head colored in both black and red. There was a little bit of pink fluff on the top of his head, which was the only thing that would tell anyone who he was. He couldn't wear his scarf since it didn't shrink down with him, sadly.

"Hey, Natsu! What's taking you so long? I thought we were going to go on a job today!" Happy said as he flew into their shared room, only to pause and look around. "Natsu, where are you?"

Natsu blushed, making the red scales turn a shade or three darker than normal, and said, "I'm down here." Happy heard him and looked at him. The blue cat stared for a moment with wide, shocked eyes, but that quickly changed to Happy covering his mouth with his paws and tears gathering in his eyes. Natsu growled, and the sound was enough to break Happy for he dropped to the ground with roars of laughter.

Natsu growled with teeth showing this time, but his growl was way too cute to be taken seriously. He sounded like a squeak toy that was filling up with air slowly, making Happy just laugh even harder. Natsu decided that since growling wasn't going to work then he'll just have to do something else. He lunged forward and bit down on Happy's tail, causing the exceed to scream in pain and fly out the window with Natsu still clinging to the end of his tail.

Happy, while still screaming and crying, flew into the guildhall with Natsu literally on his tail. He made a beeline for Lucy, who sat at the bar talking to Gray, while shouting, "GET HIM OFF OF ME!"

Happy crashed into Lucy's chest, and Lucy saw Natsu on his tail. She grabbed the tiny dragon by the tail and pulled him up. Natsu let go with a yelp of surprise and looked around to take in his surroundings. He saw that he was at the guild and that Lucy was the one holding him upside down.

"Where did this tiny dragon come from?" Lucy questioned.

"I'M NOT THAT TINY!" Natsu shouted in protest, his cheeks puffed out and his eyes looking elsewhere.

"Natsu?!" The whole guild shouted in shock and then began to laugh. Gray fell off of his stool in his amusement and held his sides. A lot of the males in the guild were not far behind the ice-make mage.

Natsu growled in anger, but again it just made everyone laugh harder at how squeaky it was. "IT'S NOT FUNNY!" he cried out, but he sounded like a whiny child now. Lucy was the only one at this point trying to not laugh for Natsu's sake, but even she was failing.

"We're sorry, Natsu, but you look and sound so cute like this," Lucy said while covering her mouth with her hand.

Natsu scowled in annoyance. "Put me down," he demanded grumpily. Lucy placed him on the bar counter, and Gray finally got back up from the wooden floor.

"Oh god, how did this happen? Zeref cursed you three days ago, didn't he? Did someone else decide they wanted to prank you?" he asked while wiping a tear from his eye.

Natsu huffed, "No, it was Zeref again. He did this as a birthday present."

"Oh yeah! It's your birthday today, isn't it?" Lucy stated in realization.

"Wow, first he knew about you hating carrots, and now he knows your birthday? How is he getting this information?" asked Erza.

"He might have found out about the carrots through watching to see what Natsu ate and didn't eat," said Mira. "As for finding out his birthday… yeah, sorry but I don't have a clue."

Lucy looked up in wonder. "Why is that? Wouldn't his birthday be known to the people of Magnolia?"

Gray shook his head. "Even they don't know his birthday, just those of us from the guild."

"I only told them when my birthday was when I was here a whole year and it wasn't celebrated. They demanded I tell them so they could throw a surprise birthday party for me next time," said Natsu with a small sigh.

"He didn't want to tell anyone his birthday, because he didn't want to celebrate it without Igneel," explained Makarov.

"Oh…" Lucy said while looking down at Natsu, who looked annoyed at his current size.

"This wouldn't be so bad if I was a bit bigger than this. Like the size of a horse or something," Natsu muttered to himself, but Lucy, Gray, Erza, Happy, Mira, and Makarov all heard him.

Elfman came over with a huge plate and was just about to place it down, but it was descending down toward Natsu, who screamed and moved out of the way quickly.

"Oh! Sorry, Natsu," said Elfman nervously.

Natsu breathed to calm his racing heart before turning a heated glare at the giant man. "It's okay, but WATCH WHERE YOU'RE PUTTING THOSE THINGS!" he shouted angrily.

Makarov sighed and said, "I can already see Natsu getting crushed, so this time let's try and fix this."

Natsu smiled in relief. "That would be great," he said dreamily.

Lucy was the one to cast the spell that broke curses. She had been searching for a way to do it for a while in case one of Zeref's curses went a little too far. After she said the spell-breaking chant, light engulfed Natsu's tiny body and he began to grow to normal size. Once he reached his size, they all thought he would stop growing, but he didn't. He kept going and going and going. Makarov reacted quickly and threw Natsu out of the guild.

The members of Fairy Tail ran outside to watch as Natsu continued to grow in size. He didn't stop until he was two times the size of the guildhall. The light faded out and three things registered in everyones' minds. One: Natsu was still a dragon, two: he was HUGE! and three: his wings were still tiny.

Natsu looked down at himself and at everything else. He was just as, if not more shocked than his friends were. He moved in his shock, causing his tail to hit a building, breaking it into small pieces - well, small to him at least. He turned around to check the damage, but that just caused him to destroy another building with his foot. Just as he was about to look at the newly destroyed building he heard his guildmates shout up at him.

"Natsu! Stop moving!" He froze in place, knowing that he must have been close to destroying another house or store. He could also hear people screaming down on the ground. He could see them running away from him, which made him pray that this curse did not make people fear him later.

"Natsu…" The dragon slayer-turned dragon lightly swung his head around, only to see his master in his giant form. His expression was unreadable, which just made Natsu nervous. "I would have Zeref pay for all the damage, but since no one knows where he lives you'll be the one that's going to pay for this.

Natsu's eyes widened and his jaw dropped. He doesn't have the money to pay for all of this! "B-but…" He began to say.

"No 'but's. You did the damage, so you're paying. I'll pay for a third of it since as a guild we tried to fix you while you were tiny, only to cause you to grow big. But you're the one that's going to have to pay the rest. I'll give you the bill once you're back to normal size and human. If you don't have the money, take jobs that won't cause damage. Got that?"

Natsu lowered his head and nodded. He could agree to that, but he couldn't stand here all day waiting for the curse to wear off. It was 1:00 PM last he checked. That meant he still had 11 hours to sit around and do nothing.

Makarov sighed, "Now, we're going to have Freed send you into the forest using his ruin magic to teleport you there. I don't know how you will react to this, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there."

A few minutes later, Natsu watched as Freed finished drawing up the ruin on the ground in a circle around him. The green-haired man looked up at him. "You ready?"

Natsu muttered, "As I'll ever be."

Freed nodded and activated the teleportation spell. One second Natsu was in the town, and the next he was in the forest where he lived.

Just as his brain registered where he was, nausea hit like a sack of bricks. He covered his green-tinted muzzle with his talons, trying to hold it in. He closed his eyes and breathed, but then he began to get light-headed. Soon he fell over onto his side and just lay there.

The crunching of dried leaves and twigs could be heard moving closer to him. He didn't bother to open his eyes or move. He felt good lying on the soft grass under the warm sun. But the person that was moving toward him stopped and tapped his nose. He still didn't open his eyes, but he let out a groan when the tapping insisted. He opened his eyes to glare at the person, but that quickly turned into a glare of death, for who was standing there in front of him was none other than Zeref.

"Hello Natsu, I see that you tried to fix your small size. Did you not like your gift?" Natsu growled at the gall Zeref had to make a hurt expression. "I guess I could have made it where you were the size of an ant, but I didn't want you to be crushed; although, I doubt you would have left the house like that. If that was the case, none of this would have happened." Zeref then smiled. "Don't worry, I left some money in your room for you to pay for any damage you may have caused while like that. I'm not so heartless as to make you pay for that on your birthday. Well, I should be going before you get the bright idea to try and crush me. LATER!" Zeref vanished, and his last words spun around in Natsu's mind.

"WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT!?" His roar of anger caused birds and other animals to run away from the forest like it was on fire, making the people of Magnolia wonder if Natsu had set fire somewhere.

I'm glad I got this done in time for Natsu's birthday. Also, Let me know if you want to see the carrot prank as well that was mentioned here. This idea came from two different people. The small dragon came from ocomolinaehain from fanfiction, and the big dragon came from Carly from Quotev. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. ;)
