Chapter 10: The Myth starts as the Advent Begins…

"Here, Ruby-chan. This will be your room for the time being!" Sora said as she presented the apartment to the silver eyed teen. Ruby walked in and observed the modest sized room. The living room was before her, and the bed and bath were situated on the other side of the room. Behind the living room was a tiny kitchenet and a pantry.
Ruby couldn't help but blink in shock. "This is supposed to be an apartment?" she asked in shock. "This is more like a fancy hotel room!" Sora giggled into her hand.
"Yagoo-san likes to make sure his Idols have the best whenever they have to stay at Headquarters!" Sora explained. "It's nothing special, but serves its purpose well!" She smiled at Ruby. "Fubuki-chan will come grab you for breakfast in the cafeteria at seven tomorrow."
The misplaced teen nodded. "Ok. Sounds good." Sora waved and started closing the door.
"Oyasumi!" the Idol said as the door shut.
"Oyasumi," Ruby replied, staring at the door. She stood quietly in the entry way for a moment as she thought about the events of the day and sighed. She clenched her fist, creasing her gifted drawings. She looked at them and smiled.
Setting the drawings on the table under a paperweight, she walked into the bathroom and saw a pile of clothes folded neatly on a rack near the shower. A note was attached to them, and Ruby walked over and read it: Sorry if they're a bit too big. I had to guess your sizes. We'll all go shopping tomorrow so you'll have something to wear during your stay here. Just leave your clothes by the door, and a maid will come by later to take them to the laundry room. – A-chan.
Ruby chuckled, appreciating the gesture. She'd have to remember to thank A-chan in the morning. She yawned after reading the note. But first, she reasoned, a nice hot shower.
After a relaxing shower, she walked to the bedroom wearing a set of baggy pajama pants and a large oversized T-shit with the words "HOLOLIVE" written in bold blue print on the front. It was a nice sized room with a plain queen-sized bed in the center of the room and a TV in front of it, and a desk on the far wall. Ruby let out another yawn as she crawled under the sheets and was out like a light once her head hit the pillow.
Sleep, however, did not come swiftly for the misplaced Remnantian. Visions of blood and death plagued her mind as she watched her friends and others she knew berate her for her choices, yelling at her how she failed, watched as a plaid-coated cat mocked her for her stupidity, howling in laughter as it told her she was worthless…
She saw eyes. Reddish-gold eyes opening across a skin-canvas of some evil version of herself, who was fighting an angry Ruby, only to die by the hands of other version of herself…
A blonde girl breaking apart by some unseen force. A pink haired woman fading from existence. A shark laughing maniacally as the world burned under a giant red-gold eye. The ground opened underneath a black-haired cat girl, dropping her into an endless abyss. A white-haired girl being mobbed by undead. A tall blonde with red eyes taking a knee to a shadowy figure…
A girl with bright gold eyes and a gothic dress, along with twin girls with dog tails, a short girl with jewels floating around her, and a demon entering a World Gate, never to be seen again, and the world suffers for it. A Council brought low as the reality faded into the nothingness. A tall blonde haired man dragging civilians to a dark prison. Giant monsters invade and destroy everything in sight under the supervision of an Eldritch deity with a book in its hands…
More eyes. Eyes on people pulling skin back to reveal red-gold eyes. A woman, covered in eyes, with a large golden sun-like light shining from her chest. She gave a sinister smile…
(…)
*hic*
A blonde haired, blue eyed young woman wearing a white blouse and plaid skirt hiccupped loudly as she jolted from her seating position. She gasped loudly as she looked around the room frantically, trying to locate any threats. All she saw was corkboards and blackboards filled to the brim with sticky notes, news articles, random strips of paper, etc. She took stock of her surroundings and sighed.
"What a dream…" she grumbled as she stretched and yawned, feeling slight discomfort around her collarbone. She scratched at the area, only to wince in pain as she felt like she was poking her eye. Alarmed, she pulled her blouse down enough to see a giant reddish-gold eye staring at her!
"Gyah!" she cried and jumped from her seat. The eye stared at her for a minute before it slowly closed, leaving her skin looking burnt and stretched out around itself. "W-What the hell…?!" she gasped as she stared at the ugly skin in shock. Her eyes narrowed soon after and frowned.
Redwood forest, California, USA; 4:30 A.M.
He couldn't understand it.
He stared at the five humans that aided him against Growlanka. They were talking and laughing as more humans scurried around them, tending to their wounded. They were an anomaly.
He had observed humans before this, and he had found them to be a complex creature. He observed many different behaviors from them, from greed to kindness, from a thirst for knowledge to seeking the thrill of a good hunt. But they all had one thing in common: fear.
They all, on some level, held a certain level of fear. And due to this, they all either abandoned their packmates or rarely left the safety of numbers. Yet it wasn't the same for that group. Sure, they felt fear, but it wasn't an overpowering force controlling them.
What was so different about them?
"…Gah! Stupid GPS," a voice grumbled from behind him. Rowraka turned to see a human pushing through the foliage. He looked up, and his eyes widened. "Oh! Terribly sorry! It would seem my GPS is on the fritz again, and I got turned around. Could you perhaps point me in the direction of the Ulysses S. Grant Village? I was informed some of my boys were resting there."
Rowraka tilted his head and examined the odd human before him. "You…" he mumbled. "Do not fear me…" The man chuckled and shrugged.
"I've seen stranger than a Hibagon speaking a human language!" the man informed.
The Bigfoot was confused by the name, but figured it was another name for his kind that humans had coined. "I know not the name of this place, but a human dwelling is straight ahead of us," Rowraka explained and pointed to the group of five. The human walked over and once he saw the five, he smiled.
"Ah! There they are! Arigatō, Hibagon-san!" the human said as he turned to walk towards the boys. However, before he could walk further, he paused. "You seemed troubled, Hibagon-san. Is something the matter?"
Rowraka turned to stare at the human or a moment. In the back of its mind, something urged him to speak with the strange human, making him sigh. "…Your clan is strange to me," he finally answered. "And so are you, to be honest. They feel fear, but it does not control them, like others I've observed. And you, you have no fear. None that I can sense at least."
The human hummed for a moment and smiled as he turned back to the simian. "I see. Hibagon-san," he said. "I have a proposition for you."
With Tempus
The aftermath of dealing with the Bigfoot were a blur. Altare did most of the talking, allowing Jaune to think. The problem was that he wasn't sure where to start. That strange Mark-lookalike's words were a good start, but the weight of his new sword in his hand reminded him of problems likely coming his way for wielding such a powerful and important item.
So, he decided to go with an oldie-but-goodie: ignore it all until he got at least a day's worth of sleep.
The five were just dropped off in a motel parking lot where Sheriff Brant told them they located Tempus's RV. Unfortunately…
"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" screamed Vesper as he fell to knees in horror. The rest of Tempus weren't much better.
"…Ew," Altare said.
"It's totally trashed," Magni grumbled. "The graffiti's a nice touch, though."
"Where are the doors, though?" Jaune asked.
"Forget that! How did they get that bear through the kitchenet window?!" Axel demanded.
Vesper was about to say something else, when suddenly the world around them…trembled. The five tensed in alarm. "What was that?!" Jaune asked as he gripped Excalibur tightly.
"A space/time fluctuation," Magni said lowly. "And a big one to boot. Which means either Kronii and Sana are fighting again…"
"Or they're trying to fix something massive," Altare finished, grabbing his gun. The other three readied for a fight just as something crashed down between the group. They exclaimed in surprise as they landed roughly on the asphalt. They jumped up and turned to the enemy, only to have their eyes widen in disbelief.
"You again?!" Magni shouted. "You're dead!"
The dark furred Bigfoot growled and Altered his arm until it was bigger than his body. "YOU FOOLISH HUMANS!" he roared in fury. "YOU ALL SHALL PAY FOR THIS HUMILI-" His speech was halted as his head and upper part of his arm vanished in a blue flash. Tempus and Jaune stared in confusion as blood spurted from the Bigfoot's stumps.
"Raguuuus!" a whiny voice cried, making Tempus jump in recognition.
"Gaaah! Kobo! What are you doing here?!" Altare cried. Jaune stared wide eyed at a young, short girl with a futuristic white jacket with blue sleeves and white shorts. Her blue hair was long and turned white at the ends, and her feet were clad in white shoes with red soles.
The Indonesian Idol just smiled and held out a controller. "Valo!"
Somewhere in New York state; same time
On the other side of the continent, the sun was already up, and people were beginning to wake up and preparing for the day. This rang true especially for a specific group of individuals. Situated on the outskirts of a New York suburb was an impressive antebellum mansion. It was wholly unassuming by outward appearances.
Despite that, however, it was a place of importance, as it was the home/headquarters of Hololive's EN branch.
A melodic humming resonated from the kitchen. The one humming was a young woman with long bright orange hair with silvery blue highlights at the ends as she danced to her own tune across the tile floor. She wore a white and orange blouse with matching shorts and had an orange beret sitting comfortably on the right side of her head, and a tiny white chef hat resting on her left side. Her violet-colored eyes sparkled with life and energetic glee as she pulled items out of a refrigerator.
This was Takanashi Kiara, Phoenix Idol of Hololive's English branch, dubbed "HoloMyth," and proud owner of the fast-food chain Kiara Fired Phoenix.
Kiara's humming increased as she reached under the counter and pulled out a large skillet. She smiled as she placed it on the stovetop and turned the burner on high. She reached for the bacon when a voice reached her ears. "Good morning, Kiara."
"Morning, Ina!" Kiara called out with a smile. "Anything specific you'd like for breakfast?"
"Just some scrambled eggs will be fine," replied the HoloMyth member and High Priestess of the Ancient Ones, Ninomae Ina'nis (or simply Ina to her friends). She stood just shy of Kiara's height and had purple-blue eyes, long purple hair with two strands that looked more like tentacles framing her youthful face, and two purple earlike appendages on top of her head. She wore a two layered sleeveless purple and yellow dress with a detached white sleeve and thigh high sock on her left side. Two pure white wings sprouted from her lower back and wrapped around her waist.
She set AO-chan (her ever present book) on the island and sat down. She looked around the kitchen and noticed the coffee pot. She hummed. "Ame must have had a late night as usual, huh?" she mused.
"Hm? Oh, yeah! I noticed that too," Kiara commented. "She's probably got a new case."
"Probably." A low groan echoed through the house. Kiara brightened.
"Morning, Calli!" the KFP CEO exclaimed happily, earning another groan from a young woman taller than Kiara trudging through the hallway and into the kitchen. Her long pink hair was messy and sticking up in various directions, and her pink eyes were barely open as she stumbled to the island Ina was sitting. She was wearing a black nightgown and a black sleep mask on her forehead.
This was their fellow HoloMyth member and the First Apprentice of Death: Mori Calliope.
Calli grumbled as she took a seat next to Ina. "Coffee?" she mumbled.
"I was just about to make some!" Kiara told her. "Seems Ame is on a late-night case again!"
"Dammit, Watson!" the rapping reaper hissed as Kiara took the coffee pot and started washing it out. She hummed out another tune as she filled the coffee maker up as someone else made their way into the kitchen.
"Morning, everyone," a youthful sounding young woman yawned as she held a hand in front of her face. She was the shortest of the group, with short white hair with blue highlights. She also had bright blue eyes, and all her teeth were sharp, like a shark's. She wore a shirt that was too big for her small frame and black spats. A blue shark tail with a missing chuck on one fin and the other looking stitched up swayed lethargically behind her.
This was none other than HoloMyth's shark girl and most popular Idol in Hololive, Gawr Gura.
"Morning, Gura!" came four distinct greetings of various levels of enthusiasm. The Atlantian sharkgirl yawned again as she hopped onto a stool next to Calli. Kiara smiled as she finished with the coffee and returned to the stove.
"You want the usual, Gura?" the phoenix asked. Gura gave her a wide, shark-toothed smile.
"Yep!"
"Coming right up!" Kiara laid the bacon onto the hot skillet as Ina looked around.
"Where's the remote?" she wondered aloud. "I know I set it down on the counter last night…"
"Don't know, don't care," Calli grumbled as she crossed her arms and laid her head down on them. "Wake me when the coffee's done."
"More importantly, where's Watson?" Gura asked, looking around. "She's usually up before me."
"I think she's on a case again. Coffee maker was used last night," Kiara answered.
"Ah." Gura nodded and started tapping the island with her blue painted nails, irritating the sleeping reaper. Calli was about to snap at her when another young woman stumbled into the kitchen. She was shorter than Ina and wore a white long-sleeved blouse with a red tie, plaid skirt, and white knee socks. Her short blonde hair was sticking up all over the place, and she had bags under her bright blue eyes.
This was the final member and leader of HoloMyth: the time travelling detective Amelia Watson.
"Morning, Ame/Watson!" HoloMyth greeted, only to be ignored as Ame tripped and fell towards the counter.
"Crap!" the detective gasped as she pulled herself up to see the coffee maker still brewing coffee. "Dammit!" she growled. "Come on! Come on! Brew, damn you!"
"Easy, Ame!" Kiara chastised. "It'll get done in a moment!" She turned and frowned at the human. "Also, what have we told you about late-night cases?"
"This ain't a damn case!" the blonde growled as she glared at the coffee machine. "This is far more serious than that!" Kiara huffed and placed her hands on her hips.
"Nothing is more important than your health, Ame!" she insisted.
"I'm perfectly healthy, thank you very much!" Ame rebuked, rounding to glare at the phoenix. She turned back to the coffee maker and growled, "This, however, takes precedence!" Kiara huffed and crossed her arms.
"And why's that?" she challenged. Ina hummed to herself and hopped off her stool, still trying to find the remote. "Ameila, we talked about this! You can't keep running yourself into the ground! Remember the Dark Lord incident with Tempus?! Or Council before then?!"
"First of all!" she shouted, rounding on Kiara and pointing aggressively. "Yeah, I went overboard on the Dark Lord incident, but the later wasn't my fault! Kronii was invading my dreams, and my Alter-Vision plagued me with constant visions of bad timelines! You can't compare the two! And-!"
"Ah! There you are!" Ina exclaimed and pulled the remote out of a drawer. "What are you doing here, Mr. Remote? Thought you could spoon the forks, did ya?" she chuckled, making the others groan at the bad pun.
"Booooo!" Gura shouted with her hands cupped around her mouth. Ina sighed and pointed the remote at the TV in the living room. Ame sighed as she wiped the sleep from her eyes.
"Look, girls," she said. "I'm sorry for getting defensive. A Vision woke me up last night, and it has me on edge." Kiara smiled and hugged the girl.
"It's fine, Ame! Just remember we're here for you!" Kiara reminded her. Ame chuckled.
"Thanks, Kiara!"
"So, Watson, what was this Vision that spooked you?" Gura asked curiously. "You get them all the time, and even during the Dark Lord stuff, you weren't this creeped out." Ame sighed and turned to the other girls, motioning Kiara to join them. Confused, the phoenix warrior did as she was instructed as Ame leaned against the counter.
"I'm not spooked; I'm alarmed," she told them, making them look sharply at her. "You know how my Alter-Vision works. I get Visions of alternate timelines, past events, or even possible futures. And you also know, that throughout all of those Visions, I've never experienced any physical injuries or ailments my alternate selves felt or sustained, even during Kronii's assault on my psyche."
"Where are you going with this, Watson?" Calli asked with a raised eyebrow. Instead of answering, Ame pulled her blouse down just enough to reveal a small patch of burnt and stretched skin and a clear separation of skin in the middle, like a cut.
Instantly, Myth understood Ame's concerns. "That happened last night?!" Ina questioned. Ame nodded.
"That's not all," Ame continued as Kiara shed a tear and caught it with finger. She walked up to Ame and applied the tear to the afflicted area.
However, instead of healing like it was supposed to, a large gold-red eye opened and glared at the CEO. "AGH!" Ame screamed in pain, throwing herself against the counter.
"Wack!" Kiara chirped in alarm, retching her hand back in pain. Her finger was rapidly turning black.
The reactions from the rest of Myth were instant. Gura jumped quickly onto the island, growling in fury as her blue eyes, hair highlights, and fingernails, brightened into an angry red. Ina's eyes glowed white as she chanted in R'lyehian. However, this agitated the eye on Ame as the house shuttered under an unseen force.
Ame cried in pain as a second eye formed under the first. Calli, upon the first eye's opening had jumped over the island, her nightclothes instantly replaced by her traditional black dress, stockings, spiked cape, and black crown with a transparent veil. As her heels hit the ground, she summoned her scythe and swung for the eye, the blade glowing a light greyish-black.
She gently tapped the eye, but the second eye opened fully, forcing Calli backwards into the island. "Guh!" she cried as she broke the island. Suddenly, the mansion started splitting apart. The foundation crumbled and decayed at a rapid rate. Ame noticed this and gasped in agony, her hand quickly reaching out to clutch her watch. She quickly twisted the timekeeper and pressed it.
Sound distorted around her as time instantly rewound around her. The house repaired itself instantly as her friends returned to their original positions, and she released the timekeeper. She gasped as she exited the timestream, the pain finally abating a bit.
"Wack!" Ame looked up to see Kiara stumble away from her as Gura jumped quickly onto the island, growling in fury as her blue eyes, hair highlights, and fingernails, brightened into an angry red. Ina's eyes glowed white as she chanted in R'lyehian. However, this agitated the eye on Ame as the house shuttered under an unseen force.
"S-Stop! Ina, stop! You're agitating it! Calli, stay back!" Ame cried in desperation. Calli, who had just landed next to Kiara in her traditional black dress, stockings, spiked cape, and black crown with a transparent veil, halted mid-summoning of her scythe. Ina's eyes stopped glowing, and her voice died off. The house settled with a light groan as the eyes on Ame's collarbone closed.
"W-What the…What was…?" Kiara asked. Ame groaned as she steadied herself against the counter.
"Pheonix tears and Death magic are ineffective, R'lyehian agitates it, and above all, this second eyeball stayed through a Rewind?" Ame observed. "That's…disturbing…"
"What the hell is that freaking eye thingy?!" Gura growled, still red.
"I don't know," Ina admitted. "But if it didn't respond to me, then it's either a Higher Being, or something from deep within the Void."
"I tried Death magic before the Rewind, right?" Calli asked. Ame nodded, and Calli hissed. "Fuck. That means it's either immune or removed from Death. Fantastic."
Ame straightened up and released her blouse, quickly smoothing out the wrinkles. "That might be the least of our worries," she revealed. "The Vision showed me more-Wait! Ina! Turn up the volume!" she shouted suddenly, pointing at the TV. Confused, Myth turned see the purple hair was the popular news reporter, FalseEyeD. Ina pointed the remote at the screen, quickly turning up the volume.
"Reports are still coming in, but from what The Cell's newest warden, Everett Anderson, has told us, the explosion happened at approximately 1:23 AM last night in the High-Security Wing of the prison," the robotic reporter informed, a photo of the massive complex superimposed behind him. "He insists that it was isolated to a small section, and the wing is still structurally sound, but they do have confirmation that five highly dangerous individuals used the chaos to their advantage and escaped custody."
"Really?" Calli questioned dubiously.
"You don't believe it?" Gura asked as her blue coloring returned.
"The High-Security Wing is in the deepest part of the Cell," Calli explained. "And has some of the most heinous magical security measures known to Existence. Even Death-Sensei can't get out of there unscathed. You're not meant to."
"And I don't trust Anderson with a toothpick, much less an entire prison," Amelia added with a frown. "He doesn't exactly play well with others."
"Officials have not confirmed the identities of the five escapees," False continued. "But we do have video of one of the suspects." A grainy image of a young woman wearing a gothic dress appeared next to him. Ame gasped, making her team turn to her.
"Ame? What's wrong?" Kiara asked.
"It's her!" she exclaimed, pointing at the image. "She's one of the people I saw in my Vision!"
Myth turned to the image in shock. "Enemy?" Ina asked.
"Not sure. I only saw her and four others walk through a World Gate," Ame explained. "I could sense it was permanent, and the world was worse after it."
"Did they cause such a disaster? Or could they have prevented it?" Calli mused. Her eyes narrowed. "Either way, we need to track them down."
"Not just them," Ame said, narrowing as one of False's coworkers, Co-Dee, was shown interviewing Warden Anderson. "There were several people of interest in the Vision we have to find…"
Hours earlier, in the Cell
"Man, what's Anderson up too? I mean, seriously, 're-evaluating' all inmates?"
"Ain't in our paygrade, Charles."
"But dude! He acts like everything in here can kill us!"
"Everything in here can kill us."
"My apologies, let me rephrase: He acts like everything in here will kill us!"
She heard the guards' discussion distantly. However, her focus was mainly on her plan. It was time. She smiled, and the pillars around her containment cell blew up. The Repressor Rings around her flickered and died, making her laugh. More explosion occurred around her cell, making her smile grow wider.
"Containment breach!" a guard shouted and raised his weapon, only for it to be cut to pieces by a set of blue claws. His eyes widened as a pair of pink claws flew at his chest.
In another corridor, several guards were mobilizing. "Inmates C-23 has vanished! C-53 and 54 were last seen in Corridor 3!" a guard shouted.
"Find them!" ordered Everett Anderson. "Have the Cell go full Lockdown!"
"Sir! Inmate C-44 wasn't in her cell!" a new guard exclaimed in panic. Anderson cursed.
"Lockdown the Cell now! Someone prep the Solitaries! Find these criminals!"
"Yes sir!" the guards shouted, unaware of one of their targets running down the adjacent hallway.
A cell door was battered open as several guards took position around it. "Inmate C-13! Do not leave your cell!" a guard shouted. "I repeat! DO. NOT. Leave your cell!"
Heedless, a tall, looming figure marched out of the cell confidently.
"Yes! Yes sir! The Void Gate's secured, but the locking mechanisms on the security doors are jammed!" a guard shouted. "Why can't I-The systems are rebooting! I can't do anything here! Shut down the damn Gate!" A loud noise caused the guard to turn to see the security door be completely destroyed, with four individuals standing at the entrance. The Guard fumbled for his weapon!
"Freeze!" he demanded. "You're under arre-!" He was alerted to something above him, making him look up to see a figure falling towards him. His eyes widened as he backpedaled, allowing her to land where he stood. Quicker than he was expecting, she stood and lashed out, hitting the side of his head with something hard, making him fly into a wall and damaging a security camera. He gasped and tried to get up when he was suddenly hit with a crushing wave of drowsiness. He tried to fight it, but soon his vision darkened as he felt his mind grow more and more sluggish.
The last thing he saw before passing out was the girl who attacked him walking towards the Void Gate.
