Grand Admiral Squid – I'm glad you like my story, it means a lot!

Chapter 9 – Recovery

Corvus awoke in an unfamiliar, white room. As he tried to sit up his shoulder started burning in pain,. He lied back down at turned to look at his shoulder, though he had to turn his head much further than usual to see the bandages covering it. It was only then did he realize something was off with his vision, he couldn't really see his left side without turning. He reached a hand to the left side of his face to feel bandages covering it, as well as his forehead and even part of his mouth. It all started coming back to him at that point, training with Pyrrha, the attack… that Grimm.

He looked around the room to see if anyone was there and he saw his mother asleep in a chair on the right side of the bed he was in.

"M-mom?" He said quietly, the left side of his mouth starting to burn in pain slightly.

She started to stir before shooting up, looking at Corvus with both worry and relief in her eyes.

"Corvus!? Little bird… are you okay?" She said, concern evident in her voice.

Corvus nodded with a hum, not wanting to talk to much. Though he still wanted to know what happened, so he asked.

Raven sighed before answering. "You've been out for a over a day, that thing managed to cut you through your aura. You're lucky you had any left, if you didn't…" Raven's voice started to shake slightly as she cut herself off. The took a deep breath before continuing. "We managed to repel the Grimm, the town is quite damaged, but it's being rebuilt. Qrow, Pyrrha and Chrysies are all unhurt, save for a few cuts and scratches…"

"W-what about that Grimm?" He ask, trepidly.

"It got away... Once I sensed your aura break I used my semblance to go straight to you, ended up catching it by surprise, severed its tail… But it ran off faster than we could chase it." She said angrily, clearly annoyed that she didn't end the creature after what it did.

"Pyrrha and her father wanted to speak to you. She probably would've taken that hit if you hadn't pushed her aside. I don't know whether to hug you or hit you over the head." She said with a half-chuckle. Despite her words, she was looking at him proudly but was of course still concerned. "She may have survived that first hit, but Chrysies said he doesn't believe he could have gotten there in time to save her from the second. You saved her life, Corvus. You should be proud of yourself." She said with a warm smile.

Corvus smiled too, for a moment, before reaching his hand up to touch the bandages over his face once more.

"How… how bad is it?" He asked quietly.

Raven's face dropped, which only made Corvus more worried.

"It cut you across your face and left shoulder. The doctor says you've lost your left eye, though thanks to the remainder of your aura taking most of the impact the wounds didn't hit anything else crucial. But you will have bad scarring…" She said sympathetically. "How are you feeling?"

"Umm… I kinda hurt, a lot."

"I know it hurts little bird, but you'll be better soon. Your aura has already started patching you up, you'll be fine after a little rest."

"Will… Will I still be able to train?" He asked nervously, looking at his shoulder again.

"Of course you will, you just need to let your aura fix you up. That means bed rest for a while, but you'll be able to train again in no time." She reassured, placing a hand on his uninjured shoulder.

Corvus relaxed at that. He was so worried he wouldn't be able to fight after what happened, the thought of being in that situation again and being unable to defend himself terrified him.

"I'll call the doctor in. You've healed well so far, he says. Hopefully you'll be cleared to leave soon and then we can go home, okay." She said as she stood up, ruffling his messy hair a little.

She came back not long after with the doctor in tow. He removed Corvus' bandages to check his wounds.

"He seems to be healing quickly, looks like his aura is doing most of the work, it must have stabilized. Let me put new bandages on you for now, you should be okay to leave tomorrow. Just make sure you take it easy, okay? No heavy lifting or strenuous activities until you're fully healed. And make sure the you change his bandages." He said, looking between Corvus and Raven. He left shortly after with a few words of encouragement to Corvus.

"See, little bird? You'll be fine, you've just got to rest a little okay?" Raven assured softly.

Corvus nodded. He was in a much better mood now. "Mom, where's uncle Qrow? And Pyrrha?"

"Your uncle has been helping Pyrrha's father to get Komo-Rui back into shape, Pyrrha and a few others have been taken to Argus in case of a follow-up attack. We can go visit her once you're cleared if you'd like."

Corvus nods, a little sad he won't be able to see her today, but at least she's safe

Raven smiles. "Alright, I'm going to check on Qrow, let him know you're okay. I won't be a minute, okay?" She plants a kiss on his forehead and hugs him gently.

"I'm glad you're alright, little bird…"

Bit of a shorter one, wanted to get *something* out instead of keeping you all waiting. But yeah, Corvus isn't blind, despite what a few of you probably thought. I'll try to get the next chapter out soon, but you know what I'm like with updates so don't expect in tomorrow or anything.

Also, Corvus *is* based off of someone, like the canon RWBY characters. I won't tell you, I want you to figure it out, but you've had a hint already.

Hope you guys like this little chapter, I'll see you next time!
