"Theo?" Cal questions hardly believing her eyes when she spies not her legacy but her vampiric big brother gathering book from Juliette's locker first thing that morning.
"Hey, Callie." Theo greets carefully zipping his maker's backpack closed once more before just as carefully closing her locker. He looked more like the Theo she knew before than the half-crazed version that had fed so gratefully from her now ex-girlfriend's arm all those weeks ago.
"Where is…."
Theo shakes his head in pointed denial before his sister can finish her question "visited Dad earlier, the nurse looking after him said he'd been well enough to be moved soon." He goes on "guess that means Ben's not kidding about the move huh?" It wasn't hard to guess why he'd dodged questions in his maker's absence. Juliette must have forbidden him from talking about her should something like this happen.
Briefly, Cal wondered if Juliette had told Theo about her attempted kiss in their shared dream when she was also forbidding him from talking about her should a run-in like the one that happened, happen, then thought better of it when she remembered that kiss might not have translated into actually happening even in their shared dream world and most important even if by some miracle it had she was not about to talk about how much she so very much wanted to share a similar real-world kiss her ex-girlfriend with her brother.
"Only things left to go is us." Cal confessed hating the way the news pained her elder brother.
Theo nodded in acceptance of her news his shoulder sagging a little under the weight of what they meant "Could you ask Mom if I could I don't know drive by the house before you leave?" but the way he says it makes Cal think he wasn't just asking about possibly seeing Talia one last time. "Just so I could see her one last time?" again there was something in his voice that draw the hunter's attention.
New tears well in her eyes at the question. Either truly Theo's or a twisted version of one of Juliette's she couldn't honestly tell as she nodded in consent. "I'm sure she'll agree to it."
Theo smiles in gratitude then in the blink of an eye and what she knew without needing to see it a burst of vampiric speed he was standing inches away from her. "Don't cry Cal, please." He begged his hand cupping her jaw using his thumb to wipe away a few honest tears sliding down Cal's cheeks at the unexpected reunion. Her arms lock in a bear hug around his cooler but no less comforting form a half second later as she cried into his shoulder.
"I've missed you so much." She confessed her voice breaking with the heartbroken truth of her words as she hugged him tighter.
"Missed you too Callie." Theo agreed one hand rubbing small circles along her back in attempted comfort the other tangling in her hair to cradle her head as she continues to cry into his shoulder.
"It's not fair." Cal hiccupped no longer caring about the looks of surprise the two were getting from the growling number of students also attempting to collect their things before class that morning.
"This is the world we live in Callie." Theo reminds resting his forehead against his little sisters when Cal seemed to have finally cried herself out for the time being.
"It's not fair." Cal repeats making her own half-hearted attempt to wipe away the tear tracks herself as she meets her brother's understanding gaze.
"You'll be leaving soon Cal. A new town. New school. A new start."
"I don't want to leave." Cal defends and from the way her brother's mouth turns up into what would be a smile she guessed he'd caught her unspoken "I don't want to leave her, and I don't want to leave you." As she'd wanted to say as the time ticked closer to the final reminder bell before she would be counted late on her last day in Savannah.
"Theseus."
Cal had to do a complete turnaround in the half circle of his brother's offered hug to see the one attempting to call Theo away from her. Not that Carmen seemed at all swayed by her watery glare.
"Off to class now hunter girl." The literal witch of a woman reminds her even going so far as to tap a finger against her watch as Cal's eyes narrowed at her.
"I see you later Thee." Cal promised returning her gaze to her heartbroken older brother's. "Promise." She whispered giving him another tight hug.
Then he was gone, falling into step a few slowed paces behind Carmen with Juliette's backpack slung over his shoulder as he walked. His shoulders were hunched and his head bowed as he followed.
Cal watches them go her heart breaking into even smaller pieces with every step her brother takes away from her then they turn the final corner and disappear completely from her sight line.
A half second later Cal had made her choice to follow them. Shoving her backpack into her locker the hunter slams the door sending a quick text to Apollo about coming to collect it for her then another to Ben about her plan on 'borrowing' his car for the rest of the day before she slips her phone into her back pocket and takes off in an all-out sprint down a side hallway in an attempt to reach Ben's jeep before Theo and Carmen had reached their own car so Cal could attempt to follow them to the more elusive house she'd heard from Ben that Juliette had been staying at since the fall out of Theo's turning and her kidnapping.
