After their team meeting, Jefferson and Lynn decided to go back to the house so that they could finally do what they should've done several times before in the old reality. Talk.
Luckily the girls had enough tact to know to steer clear, since they probably would not want to hear their parents' conversation, so Anissa had gone out to get drinks and maybe even find Grace while Jen had gone to hang out with her friends.
"Jeff, is there any way I can talk you out of keeping the suit on?" Lynn asked, finally starting the conversation after a long awkward silence between them.
"The fact that you even asked me shows just how little you've paid attention to everything that's happened both in this world and the old one. Maybe if you'd asked me before the brain dump, I might've said yes, but now, no way. Not when I can prevent so many innocent people from dying. I've already sat idly by for a decade and let the 100 and Tobias terrorize this city. And Lynn, in case you've forgotten, the girls know the truth now and they have powers of their own. There's honestly no reason for me not to be Black Lightning anymore, especially since I never should've given it up in the first place. This city needs me. Something I thought you'd finally come to understand." Jefferson told her angrily.
"And I did. Then we woke up here and I guess I was holding on to a small piece of my counterpart's hope that you becoming Black Lightning again would just be a one time thing." Lynn said.
"Lynn, this is who I am. It's always been who I am and I understand that you're worried about me, but you have to stop letting that worry and concern control you. All the other heroes I met during Crisis, a lot of them were in relationships too. The Flash, Superman, Atom, White Canary, even Green Arrow, all their significant others never tried to stop them from being heroes, hell, from what I heard, they actually not only encouraged their partners to go out, but sometimes they actually went into the field with them and before you say anything, Superman had a son even younger our girls. Not sure if he still does in this reality. And from what Barry told me, his wife was the reason he ran, the reason he kept running and the reason he had to come home." Jefferson said and Lynn sighed.
"Maybe it's easier for them to process it, but I can't help it if I always see every worst possibility when you put the suit on. Especially since I grew up in a military family. My parents were soldiers, my mom died when I was a kid, my dad's still enlisted, my stepmom is a veteran and both of my brothers served and one of them died. You remember the toll Andy's death took on my family right? How much it screwed John up." Lynn asked.
"I remember, Lyla nearly left him before he pulled his head out of his ass." Jefferson said.
"And don't forget that Andy left behind a wife and a son and every time I see Carly or Andy Jr, I can't help but wonder if you'll end up putting the girls and I through that every time I see you put on that suit." Lynn said and Jefferson sighed.
"Lynn, I saw another version of John during Crisis and from what J'onn told me, that's the version of him we'll meet in this world now. The John I met was a hero, since he didn't have any powers, but that didn't stop him from trying to stop the Crisis. He put his life on the line, even though he's also a husband and father. How can I do any different, especially since the girls know who I am now and they've both got powers of their own. I can stop so many bad things from happening. I can save LaWanda before she gets killed, I can prevent Khalil from being shot by Tobias and maybe we can even take down the ASA before they take over the city." Jefferson said and Lynn sighed but nodded.
"I know and Jeff, I do support you being Black Lightning, it's just with this new world and the memories of my counterpart, along with everything else, I just need some time to adjust to the idea, since I did finally realize that whether I like it or not, Freeland needs Black Lightning as much as our family needs Jefferson Pierce and they're both parts of you and I was wrong to force you to choose one or the other. I may not like it, but I know that I have to learn to share you with the city and most likely the rest of the world." Lynn said.
"And I'm willing to give you that time, but we need to make sure that we stay on the same page. Our biggest issue was that we were constantly on different pages of our relationship." Jefferson said and Lynn nodded.
"I agree. And I also think that part of that means being on the same page of telling Gambi not to make Anissa's suit until she proves to us that she can keep her priorities in line, since she clearly failed in- the old reality." Lynn said.
"I already told him not to and he agreed. I'm gonna reach out to Barry in Central City to see if he has anything we can use to dampen Anissa's powers if we need to, but I'm hoping that it won't come to that." Jefferson said and Lynn nodded.
"And see if he knows anyone who might be able to help me come up with an alternative stabilization cure for the pod kids, since I don't want to have to rely on Tobias's bone marrow for it." Lynn said and Jefferson nodded.
"I will." Jefferson said.
