Chapter 2: RAW
Kagome groaned as she rolled out of bed, she sighed pushing herself up. She heard the sound of small feet running through the hallway, and smiled; she grabbed her rob and wrapping the warm fabric around her dainty frame and reached to open the door. She pulled the door open, and followed the sound of laughter and clanking pots. She walked down the wooden stairs, each step creaked in protest under her weight, her hand held the railing tightly as she reached the landing. She walked through the hallway,and emerged into the kitchen.
"Ok but you have to admit she had the best red carpet looks" Kagura said as she washed the dishes
A raven haired man rolled his eyes, and said "Girl bye! She's basic! Zendaya killed it this year"
"As always" Sango said
She watched the innocent banter between the twins, and her best friend.
A small smile tugged at her lips.
"Morning" she said softly
Kagura and Naraku turned to face her, and she stifled a laugh.
They were literally the same person, they stared at her with the exact same expression.
She shook her head, and walked over to her friend, she leaned down and hugged the burnette before walking over to the coffee machine.
"Kagome, who do think is more stylish Zendaya or Kylie Jenner" Naraku asked, arms tucked across his chest.
She hummed and said "Zendaya"
"Oh my god" Kagura groaned
Naraku laughed, teasing his sister.
"Alright what's the plan for today?" Sango said looking over at her
"Well I work tonight but I have to enroll Shippou in school" she said sighing
Kagura rose her eyebrow in question and said "About time it's been 3 weeks"
She sighed "I know, I've been putting it off! It's just-"
"Just what chicken?"
Sango shot her a sad smile, and said "She needs Inuyasha's signature to enroll him"
The twins nodded their heads, and smiled softly at her
She groaned, and said "Fuck! I'm so tired of this, I swear if I would've known he was such an asshole"
She muttered to herself as she poured herself a cup of coffee, and leaned against the counter facing the trio.
Sango hummed, and reached over for her phone.
"What are you doing?" Kagome asked
"Just call him, and ask for it! No point in trekking all the way uptown only to get thrown out" Sango said handing her the small white device
"We're here" Naraku said walking over to her, he held her hand tightly as she dialed a familiar number.
"Tashio Industries, this is Kaguya. How may I direct your call"
"Uhm Inuyasha Taisho please"
"May I ask who's calling?"
She sighed and said softly "Kagome Ta- uhm Higurashi"
"Oh I'm sorry ma'am Mr Tashio isn't accepting any calls at the moment, would you like to leave a message?"
She rolled her eyes, and moved the phone away from her mouth.
She said "He's not taking my calls"
"Ask to speak to Toga" Sango said
She frowned, and shook her head mouthing the word no.
"What other choice do you have? You and I both know he's completely spineless when it comes to daddy dearest"
She sighed and said "No, can you put me through to Toga Tashio please"
"Ma'am he is very busy and"
"Stop fucking around Kaguya and patch me through!" she said angrily
"Alright alright! One second!"
She held the phone tightly to her face, her palms sweating as she listened to the ringing sound, she looked up at Sango, earning a thumbs up, she chuckled bitterly.
"Toga speaking" a deep gruff voice rang through the phone
She cleared her throat and said "Hi , it's Kagome"
She heard rustling on the phone, and waited for the man on the other line to speak.
"Kagome! Hey kid, how are you?! Where are you?"
"I'm in Harlem, and I'm fine. Look I called because-"
"Is everything okay, do you need money?" Toga asked concerned
"No I just need your son to sign Shippo's school papers"
"Why did Kaguya send you through to me then?"
"Because Inuyasha isn't speaking to me, after he pushed through the quick divorce and kicked me out. He just stopped answering my calls, I haven't seen him in over a month"
"He kicked you out? When did this happen? Kagome, what's going on?"
She was slightly taken back by her father in law's tone, and shifted her weight slightly.
"He cheated on me with Kikyo"
He sighed and said "I know that part kid"
She huffed, and continued "He asked for a divorce, and since I signed a prenup, he's not required to help me! His lawyer said since Shippou is adopted, he has no legal obligation, he then asked me to leave and I haven't heard from him since"
She heard a deep growl on the phone, and then was greeted with silence, she waited impatiently as she tapped her foot,shifting her weight slightly.
"I didn't know that, fax me the paperwork and I will have him sign it! Where are you staying? I'd like to see my grandson"
She bit her lip and said "We're at 16 139Wst in Harlem"
"I will come by tonight"
"Actually that doesn't work for me, I'm working tonight"
"Oh you've got a job, good for you! Where are you working?"
"A bar in Brooklyn"
"I see! Does tomorrow morning work?"
"Ah yeah that's fine sir"
"Oh stop that! Just Toga, Call me if you need anything, kid. You're family"
"Yeah tell that to your son" she chided
"Believe me, I will"
They said their goodbyes, and she stood shocked briefly as their conversation marinated in her mind.
She stared at her phone, her blue eyes widened, her jaw slacked.
"Well what did he say" Sango said curiously, her brown eyes widened
She shook her head, and said "He sounded pissed, and he said he'd get Inuyasha to sign the paperwork! I just have to fax it to him"
"Ew who even uses a fax machine" Naraku said slightly disgusted
"So what does that mean?" Sango said ignoring the spider demon, shooting up out of her chair, and walking over towards her
She shrugged still slightly stunned, and said "I have no fucking idea"
Kagura and Naraku laughed loudly, as she tried to wrap her head around everything. She groaned as a migraine began to creep up on her, she shook her head and said "This is so Jerry Springer"
Kagome sat in the backroom of the Up & Up quietly eating her sandwich, secretly appreciative for the moment of silence. She has spent the morning, and early afternoon at the Harlem library trying to figure out the fax machine, which after many attempts finally worked. Shippou would hopefully be starting school in a few weeks and since his latest growth spurt, he needed some new clothes;the trip to Target had been a complete failure! After moving into the city Shippou had started acting out, and not listening to her and the shopping trip had just been his latest attempt to drive her insane. With his demonic speed at his disposal, he had ran around the store incessantly leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.
Mannequins toppled over, and tantrums in the toy aisle!
It had taken too long to catch him; mostly attributed to the security guard. Once she checked out, and finally got him home she had been late for work. She winced as she recalled Sesshomaru's glare before he left, leaving her to handle the evening rush. She'd been working at the bar for the past two and half weeks, and although it was intense she loved her co-workers already, they were supportive and welcoming but Sesshomaru was a whole different story. He was a grouch, and always looked angry or at least slightly pissed off; his silence was off putting, he rarely spoke and when he did it was a single word or sentence. If it wasn't for his good looks, no one would look twice at him; he was certainly beautiful, a greek god among mere men but he had such a shit personality.
"Kagome, we're just about to announce last call"
She looked up at the owner of the light voice, she smiled warmly at her.
"Oh thank god, I'm exhausted" she exclaimed
Rin laughed, and said "Welcome to bartending sweetie" before disappearing behind corner
She chuckled, and wiped her mouth while moving from her seat. She tossed the small wax paper in trash, and walked through the swinging black doors, her ears were immediately greeted with loud chatter and the bass of the music hammering throughout the restaurant.
"Hey can I get two shots of Tequila" a blonde haired man asked sweetly leaning down, smirking at her seductively,
She nodded, and said "Sure, one minute" as she turned around and moved robotically through the bar.
"So I haven't seen you here before" he said loudly
She shouted "I'm new" while she turned around and poured tequila into two clear glasses
"I figured, I think i'd remember someone so beautiful" he flirted
She hummed, and chuckled lowly. She replied "That's 15.08"
"Are you from the city?"he said pulling out his wallet
She leaned against the bar, folding her arms across her chest, she said "Nope, just moved here"
"Well then you need a guide, someone to show you around" he smiled warmly as he placed a twenty dollar bill on the counter.
She nodded and collected the change, she felt a hand wrap around hers softly
"If it's not too forward I'd love to take you out for dinner" he said sweetly
She stared at him momentarily, and struggled to find words as she moved over to the cash register.
She exhaled harshly, and said with fake sweetness "I'm married"
His eyes widened, and he laughed "All the beautiful ones usually are! Keep the change"
She nodded, and balanced herself on the bar as a heavy feeling passed through, she looked down at her left hand. Her thumb rubbed the diamond rings anxiously as she swallowed the lump forming in her throat, she watched the light dance through the piece of jewelry causing it to felt a pang bloom in her chest, and a sting in her eyes, she sighed heavily leaning her head against the cool wooden counter.
"Higurashi!"
She jolted and stood up straight, cerulean orbs peered into citrine ones.
"Hey Sesshomaru" she said, forcing a wide smile
He walked around the bar, and placed a small bag underneath the counter
"Quit slacking! We aren't closed yet" he growled, annoyed with the raven haired woman.
She nodded, and sniffled as she wiped down the counter; she heard Rin ring the last call bell and started her closing routine. She placed used glasses at the end of the bar, and began corking the liquor and wiping down the bottles. She forced herself to concentrate on her tasks, trying to push the thoughts of her ex husband out of her mind. She bit her lip as her eyes kept finding the ring that sat snuggly on her finger. She remembered perfectly when he had proposed, he had planned an evening out and took her to a carnival. She smiled sadly at the memory; he usually hated large crowds and it was the first time they'd been to something so niche!
He proposed to her that evening, at the top of the ferris wheel. She felt a single tear roll down her cheek, she wiped her face hastily and took a deep breath.
The evening crew closed the bar quickly following the last call, chairs were quickly turned over and sat neatly on table tops. The tiled floor was swept clean, and moped leaving it clear of the day's debris, and wear! Thankfully the night passed without a hitch, the exhaused crew sank in their chairs heavily as the ache of the day seeped into their bones, and radiated through their body.
Kagome ripped off her apron quickly, and sat harshly across from Rin.
"Good job tonight everyone" Kimi announced as she calculated their nightly earnings.
Miroku leaned over the bar and grabbed a bottle of Tequila "Shit tonight was crazy! We earned this!" he laughed.
She numbly played with the ring on her finger, as she sat next to Sango.
"Are you okay" Sango asked quietly, bumping her delicately
She ignored her friend, her mind swimming with memories of Inuyasha. She sighed, and fought the tears that started to form in her eyes.
"Baby girl, are you okay?" Rin asked lovingly as she rushed over to her.
She was shaken from her thoughts, she shook her head and exhaled harshly.
"Huh! Oh yeah I'm fine" she said biting her lip
Mirkou placed the glasses on the table and pulled up a chair; Kimi was closely behind while Sesshomaru leaned against the front of the counter.
Sango rubbed her back, as her head fell into her hands.
"Do you want to talk about it? We might not look like much but we're a family here" Miroku said softly as he poured tequila into the six shot glasses.
Before he could pass them around she reached for one and threw it back harshly, and repeated the motions until six glasses sat upside down.
"Argh" she groaned as the liquid burned her throat
Sango looked at her wide eyed, as she shook her head harshly.
She motioned Miroku to pour her another one, he eyed Sango and she nodded.
He poured her another shot, and said "Kags what's going on?"
She downed the last shot, and as the liquid burned her throat she pulled her engagement ring and wedding band off and dumped them into the shot glass.
Rin looked at her questionly reaching over to her, she asked "Trouble in paradise?"
They looked at her patiently, waiting for her to respond.
"My husband left me for his slutty receptionist, and kicked me and my son out of our home and now I'm living in Harlem with Sango and Kagura" she rushed wincing
Rin's jaw slacked "Oh my god! Honey!"
She groaned, and her head fell into her hands "I don't even know what I'm doing"
"Kags we had no idea" Mirkou said softly
The silence radiated through the bar, her co-workers comforting her lovingly.
"You're going to be okay" Kimi said sternly, her cool voice echoing through the bar
She shook her head and said " But I-"
Kimi raised her hand, and looked at her fiercely, her golden eyes swirling with anger briefly.
"You will be fine," she said, nodding firmly.
She bit her lip, fighting the tears that stung her eyes.
Kimi walked up to the table and leaned down, bracing herself against the table, Kimi repeated firmly enunciating each word "You will be fine"
She took a deep breath, and looked up at the demoness, her blue eyes clashing against hardened golden ones.
She nodded and said "I will be fine"
Kimi nodded, and said "Just keep your feet planted firmly on the ground, and your head up! You will be fine" Kimi tossed a white envelope onto the table, before turning on her heel and disappearing.
She looked over towards Sesshomaru as their eyes met briefly, she bit her lip anxiously.
"He's an asshole" he said folding his arms across his chest tightly
She chuckled "Yeah" she hung her head lowly
He shuffled his feet while watching her carefully, he cleared his throat and said "Come on, lets get some tacos. My treat"
"Oh fuck yea!" Koga said bouncing out of the backroom
Rin laughed loudly "Mention free food, and Koga will appear"
She chuckled softly and eyed the rings in the shot glass, she watched a pale hand cover the dainty glass, her eyes following his movement. He picked the small glass up, and left it on the bar counter. She rose robotically while he walked towards the bar's entrance, Rin followed closely behind locking arms with the wolf demon, she pushed her hands in her pockets as the evening air greeted her. She stood by the lamp post and leaned agains the cold metal waiting for Sango to lock the door, she watched her friend jog over to hear, she shot the brunette a sad smile.
"Where's even open at this time" she asked
"It's New York, pretty much everywhere is open" Rin said happily
She hung back, as the group led the way.
She followed hesitantly as her ears picked up the sweet sounds of the city; cars passing by, drunk people singing loudly and shouting.
"Where are you from?" Sesshomaru asked
She jumped, and looked up beside her. She hadn't noticed the argent haired demon beside, he certainly moved swiftly.
"Originally I'm from Salt Lake City, but my parents moved us to New Jersey when I was a kid"
"Hn"
She nodded, and continued "I actually met him in elementary school, my erm ex husband"
He looked over to her, his ears twitching, as he listened diligently.
"We grew up together and fell in love in highschool! Been together ever since" she muttered
"How long ago was the divorce?" he asked quietly
She swallowed harshly, "It will be three months in September"
"Pretty quick"
"Yeah, he pushed it through pretty fast"
"Hmm girlfriends probably pregnant" he stated shrugging
Her head whipped around, and she halted quickly her blue eyes widened as she stood stagnant on the street
"Pregnant? You think she's pregnant" she whispered
He stopped, and looked over to her. He moved to stand in front of her, turning his head back to glance at the disappearing group.
He faced her quickly
"Probably, wouldn't make much sense otherwise" he shrugged nonchalantly
Tears bubbled in her eyes, as the words echoed through her mind.
He watched tears crawl slowly down her cheek; he felt a pang in his chest as he watched her sob. He closed the gap between them, and took her dainty hand into his.
"Don't cry over this guy, he doesn't deserve it" he said awkwardly
She sobbed "I can't help it, he was my fucking husband" she cried
He nodded, and said "What do you want to do?"
She cried "I don't know! I'm so mad, I could scream"
She whipped around frantically, her hands wracking through her raven tendrils.
"Then scream!" he said sincerely
She looked at him strangely, and chuckled bitterly "I can't just-"
"Scream Higurashi" he said softly, holding her hand softly
She inhaled quickly, and let out a piercing scream into the brightly lit street. She screamed as the pain pushed through her stomach and shot up through her throat, she screamed with tears in her eyes.
He held her hand tightly and watched her pain expression, her lips twisted in anguish with her sapphire eyes hid behind her lids. She hunched over as the sound died out, her voice squeaking out as she finished.
"Feel better?" he asked
She chuckled dryly, her tongue darting to moisten her lips "Fuck yeah"
He chuckled, and pulled her along, gently letting her hand fall. They walked along the sidewalk, enjoying the slight fall breeze that whipped through the midnight air.
She looked over to the silver haired demon, and said awkwardly "Thanks, ya know for before"
He nodded, "Hn"
She frowned, and rolled her eyes "What is with you and monosyllabic answers! God, it's so annoying" she said huffing
He chuckled, and repeated "Hn" a smirk tugging at his lips
"You know what I think? I think it''s all that hair dye! Clearly the bleach has seeped into your brain causing some sort of malfunction"
He laughed, "So you think about me, do you? How much of your spare time do these thoughts take up?" he asked smirking
A deep red blush crept onto her face, she groaned "Oh fuck you"
He smiled "I'm sure you'd like that Higrashi but I'm your boss and it wouldn't be professional"
She rolled her eyes, and shoved him lightly, earning a deep raspy chuckle.
"It's natural" he said
She looked up, and questioned "What is?"
"The hair, I'm silver Inu" he said proudly
She hummed, and chuckled "Really, I thought you were a cat demon of some kind"
He whipped his head in her direction, and glared at her as she laughed.
"Say that again" he growled playfully
She laughed, and started running away from the seething demon.
"Come kitty kitty" she yelled, as she ran down the street
"You're dead Higurashi" he said as he jogged after her, a smile tugged at his lips.
Kimi yawned deeply as she stood on the train platform, her eyelids heavy as fatigue began to set in. She cursed her heeled boots, as her feet ached, she shifted her weight awkwardly trying to gain some reprieve.
She held her purse tightly, waiting for the train impatiently
"InuKimi?" a voice echoed through the train station
She arched an eyebrow and turned her head, her eyes glaring as she tried to find the owner of the voice.
She huffed; no one had called her that in years.
"InuKimi" the voice repeated, as it got louder.
She turned around, and her eyes frantically darted across the adjacent northbound platform, she squinted her eyes and zeroed in on a waving figure.
"InuKimi!"
Her eyes widened as the light hit scarlet coloured hair, and copper coloured skin. She turned around abruptly, and quickly faced the opposite direction. She tilted her head anxiously, and tapped her foot as she looked for her train.
She sighed, as the empty tunnel laid bare.
She bit her lip frustratedly, she held up her wrist and eyed her watch.
"InuKimi!" a voice said beyond her
She stiffened, as she listened to the footsteps approaching behind her.
Her blood ran cold, and she inhaled deeply.
"Kimi-cakes" a deep voice spoke quietly, she felt a heavy hand on her shoulder.
She shut her eyes briefly, and quickly shoved the whirlwind of emotions down, she turned around and peered into warm green eyes.
"Hello Kirinmaru" she said coldly
He smiled brightly, and pulled her into a deep hug.
"It really is you! I knew it, I'd recognize that hair anywhere" he said pressing his face in her hair, he wrapped his arm around her waist and held her head sweetly.
She stood frozen, as she felt his large arms hold her in place.
He pushed her away briefly, and looked at her dearly.
"My god you haven't changed! You don't look a day older than the last time I saw you" he whispered sweetly
She nodded, and said pointedly "I can asure I've aged"
He laughed, and whispered "still the same tongue and cheek humor! I've missed you Kimi-cakes"
She gripped his hand, and coldy shoved it off of her.
"Do not call me that" she spat venomously
He was slightly taken back, as he looked at her with hurt shining in his unshielded moss eyes.
"Kimi I-"
The train blew loudly behind her, causing her silver hair to whip around her erratically.
She shot him a cut nod, as the train behind her came to a screeching halt.
"The Kimi you knew doesn't exist anymore" she said stoically, as she turned on her heel roughly and disappeared into the train. She turned and faced the platform as the door shut firmly, she watched her old friend stare back at her, a clear pain expression sat on his face. She looked down, as the train shot forward, no longer able to hold back the tears that began to twinkle in her eyes.
ALRIGHT! so I updated my other two stories so I thought, its only fair to update this one too lol
