Chapter 2: The (not-so) Wise Monkeys
Riley stared at the red simian with a narrowed face. Lyla, the Five, and Shifu all moved next to the Lucario with their guards up and made an octagon as they watched the intruders closely.
The three simians stared at the group from their perches, the red and blue ones putting up their guards.
"Who are these guys?" Mantis asked, keeping an eye on the one referred to as 'Koba' with Viper and Crane.
"They're monkey-like, but I've never met any like these guys before," Monkey stated. Monkey, Lyla, and Shifu were watching the green one 'Rafiki.'
Tigress glanced to her left in the corner of her eye, toward Riley as both stood on guard and faced the red one. "You called the one a 'Simisage.' I take it you have an idea what they are?"
Riley gave a slight nod, not diverting his gaze from the red one. "I do. These three are Pokémon like Lyla and myself. Most often refer to these three species as the 'Elemental Monkeys' for short."
Lyla spoke up. "The green one is a Simisage, red is a Simisear, and blue is a Simipour."
Shifu grunted. "I take it these three have abilities similar to your own?"
"It's rude to talk about someone like they aren't there you know. You could just ask." The Simipour called out in slight offense.
"Simipour can manipulate water, Simisage can control plants, and…hang on." Riley looked up at the Simisear in confusion. "What is your name anyway? We heard these guys' names are Rafiki and Koba, but we never got yours."
The Simisear grumbled something incoherently as his brothers snickered.
"Come on brother, tell them you're name." Koba taunted.
"Why should I?! We're just gonna kill them anyway! Why should I bother telling dead men my name?!" The Simisear raged.
"Come on George, just tell them," Rafiki said dazedly.
…
…
SNORT!
Most of the group couldn't help but snort. Even Shifu and Tigress had small smiles of amusement on their faces.
"Hang on. Is your name seriously 'George?'" Mantis asked through his chuckles.
The Simisear's ears steamed in a mix of embarrassment and anger as he whipped his head to his brother. "Rafiki!" The now-named George exclaimed.
Rafiki shrugged. "My bad."
"Enough talk!" George yelled, taking in a deep breath as he jumped into the air, an orange light glow. "DIE!" He ended the demand with a torrent of flames jetting toward the group.
The group dodged the incoming flames, splitting up to face the opponents they had been facing.
"Rafiki! Koba! Pledge maneuver!" George ordered.
Koba smiled evilly and Rafiki's turned sly. The remaining brothers jumped from their perches, and each raised a fist into the air in sync with George. Each one had their respective elements coiled around their arms with a red, blue, and green glow.
Each one landed, their fists striking the ground simultaneously. Eruptions of fire, water, and plant life broke through the ground and met in the center of the training ground. The fire spread along the vines, creating three walls of flaming plant life that separated the groups and locked them in with their respective opponents. The plant life sprouted high and sealed the field within a swampy dome. The water within the dome turned into mist and coated the entire battlefield in a thick fog that mixed with the smoke from the fire.
The battle was on.
Crane, Mantis, and Viper vs. Koba
The three warriors stood back-to-back as they tried to peer through the thick fog, searching for signs of movement. The humidity caused by the mist was also making it difficult along with the sting of smoke.
The three tried their best to locate the Simipour, but their attempts were proven fruitless.
"Crane. Can you clear this air?" Viper asked.
"I can try," Crane responded, spreading his wings to take to the limited zone aerial zone above them and preparing a massive flap of his wings.
"I don't think so." They heard their opponent's voice call from around them, as a jet of water shot at Crane from his seven o'clock.
Crane dodged the shot as more came at him from different positions. He would dodge one, only to find another about to strike him, forcing him to twist in the air to prevent from getting hit.
Mantis and Viper quickly attempted to head towards the attacker, on for another geyser of water to shoot out from the ground in front of them and the torrent added to the mist.
Crane, meanwhile, was still dodging the water being shot at him. Unfortunately, this didn't last as he was finally struck directly by a blast of water that knocked him into the plant wall and soaked him.
Crane began to fall and tried to fly again, but the weight of his soaked feathers was affecting his abilities. He elected to just fight on the ground for now, seeing as even if he could fly properly, there was no doubt their opponent would simply hit him again.
"Aw, what's the matter birdy? Wings too wet to fly?" Koba's voice could be heard echoing around them, mocking Crane.
Crane grunted. "I don't need to fly to beat your sorry butt!" Crane declared as he regrouped with Viper.
Viper and Crane looked at each other with a nod of acknowledgment. All they needed to do was buy time.
They looked to the side and noticed the mist clearing up a bit and revealing the smug mug of Koba staring at them with his arms crossed.
"Well then, what are you waiting for?" Koba taunted.
Viper and Crane charged forward, arcing to opposite sides to prevent Koba from being able to hit both with one blast. Sadly, Koba blasted multiple torrents from his mouth at once, clenching his teeth as the pressurized water shot with greater power at a wider range.
Viper and Crane attempted to maneuver over or under the numerous currents, but each was eventually sent flying once more, though Viper had lasted longer which had allowed Koba to target her directly.
Koba grinned as he began scanning the room again. "Now then, where is that reject Fomantis of yours?"
CHOP
Koba would get his answer and then some, as his body fell paralyzed to the ground courtesy of a chop to the neck by Mantis.
Let it be known, that you should never anger the doctor.
It had been a simple move for Mantis. A good chop to the neck and hitting the right nerve can do wonders at making a person lose their bodily functions and be rendered immobilized.
"Thank you, Shifu," Mantis said proudly, brushing his arms together and dusting them off proudly. After the battle against Tai Lung, Shifu had made well to teach Mantis how to perform the technique. Mantis was a medic after all.
Lyla, Shifu, and Monkey vs. Rafiki
The three, just like their fellow allies, stood back-to-back as they attempted to locate their opponent through the fog. Just like the others, their attempts were proving to be ineffective at locating their grassy (in more than one way) opponent.
"Lyla. Can you find him?" Monkey asked, not looking away from his area.
"I'm trying. The fire and fog aren't helping though." Lyla responded, keeping a close eye out on their surroundings.
"Is there anything you can tell us about his species?" Shifu asked.
"They can-MFH!" Lyla was cut off by a vine wrapping itself around her mouth tightly. She attempted to slice it off but it was too thick.
A dark chuckle could be heard in the background. "No one likes spoilers, illusionist." They could hear Rafiki's voice.
The fog seemed to clear up as the three saw the Simisage before them, still looking hazed.
Monkey and Shifu charged upon seeing the simian, intending to take him down quickly with their numbers and to take advantage of his current state.
Lyla tried to scream out something to them but whatever she said was muffled.
When the China natives arrived at their opponent, they each went for the attack. Surprising both of them though, was that Rafiki was able to effortlessly dodge all of their attacks like a seasoned master.
…perhaps seasoned was more literal than not.
His movements looked sloppy, almost akin to someone heavily drunk. Before Monkey and Shifu knew it, they found themselves as the ones getting hit instead with a sort of dizzy punch and kick to each respectively.
The two slid back with looks of surprise on their faces.
"What the?" Monkey said baffled.
Shifu frowned. "It would appear this will be trickier than we thought."
Lyla was finally able to rip the vine off her mouth and panted from the need for oxygen.
"Some Pokémon with plant manipulation take advantage of a sort of Dizzy Fist. Their movements are hard to read and harder to hit because they're used to being in that kind of state. Spinda happen to be natural masters of it." Lyla explained quickly.
Two vines extended out of the Simisage's elbows and wiggled around aimlessly. "Now now, what did I say about spoilers!" Rafiki said with surprising clarity, swiping his arms around and sending one of the vines toward her in a whipping motion. At the same time, he sent the other at Shifu and Monkey at their legs.
Lyla's body glowed for a bit and the vine swiped through her form, phasing harmlessly through her and dispelling the illusion. Now Lyla was nowhere to be seen.
With Shifu and Monkey, the two jumped back to get out of the range of the vine's swipe. Unfortunately, Monkey didn't make it in time and the vine wrapped around his tail. Monkey yelped as he was suddenly yanked by his tail, the vine spinning him around by the tail and using the master as a flail, launching him into Shifu and sending them skidding backward.
Shifu grunted as he caught his student, taking the blow and helping Monkey recover back to his feet next to him.
"We have definitely underestimated him," Shifu thought out loud.
Monkey glanced around the area looking for something. "Where's Lyla?" He asked.
Just as he said that, a shine of crimson light spread across the area. The light took shape and showed six of Lyla in a circle surrounding the Simisage.
Rafiki kept a careful eye on them all before smiling.
"Sorry, but that won't work on me!" Rafiki shouted, using his vines and sending them upward to the ceiling. A strangled gasp could be heard as the six Zoroark disappeared. Now being held up by the Simisage's vine, Lyla could be seen trying to remove the one that was currently wrapped around her neck and cutting off her oxygen supply.
Shifu and Monkey made their way to try and save Lyla. Monkey grabbed onto Shifu's staff and Shifu swung him upward. Monkey let go of the staff and was launched up to Lyla and began helping to try and rip the vine off her neck. Shifu meanwhile, charged forward to attack Rafiki. Rafiki expertly dodged or blocked the attacks while still holding Lyla in danger. Shifu threw his staff at Rafiki, who caught the staff effortlessly.
"Sorry, but a job's a job," Rafiki said smugly.
POW!
The Simisage recoiled from a sudden slug to the face, dropping Lyla and Shifu's staff in the process. Before she could fall, Monkey grabbed onto the ceiling with his feet and grabbed Lyla by the hands, holding her up as he hung upside-down.
Shifu smiled as he caught the staff. 'Thank you for that, Riley. Even a teacher still has room to learn from his students.' Shifu thought.
With Rafiki left recoiling, he was enraged. "Damn it," Rafiki shook off his stun and leveled a glare at the three, Monkey and Lyla having descended and landed behind Shifu to his left and right respectively.
"Stop. With. The choking!" Lyla growled out, a darker crimson energy emitted from her being.
"I'll stop once you're dead!" Rafiki snarled, slamming his foot on the ground similar to what he did with the Grass Pledge from earlier. Plants began to sprout in a line toward the group.
"Get behind me. Now!" Lyla demanded with a snarl. Shifu and Monkey quickly did so, jumping behind her quickly as the pledge attack approached them.
Lyla's eyes glow light blue and her body becomes surrounded by a crimson aura. She then raises her arms above her head.
"Night Daze!" Lyla screamed before slamming her arms into the ground. A crimson sphere of energy explodes outward from the impact point.
The incoming plant life is destroyed just before it can reach the three. The force of the blast knocks Rafiki back into the plant wall behind him.
Rafiki groans as he attempts to get back to his feet, only to be suddenly slammed in the gut before being spun and grabbed violently.
The three had bolted forward, Monkey and Shifu having struck him hard in the gut at the same time, knocking the wind out of him. Before he could regain his breath, Lyla put the Simisage into a choke-hold, latching onto his back and wrapping her legs around her arms to hold them in place against his hips, all while her arms cut off his oxygen supply.
"Why don't you see how it feels you son of a bitch!" Lyla screamed in fury.
If it wasn't obvious, she really didn't appreciate him trying to choke the life out of her.
The Simisage struggled in her grip for only a few moments before his struggles waned as he fell unconscious.
Lyla finally released him, so as to not kill him (yet) and got to her feet, lightly brushing some dust off herself before turning away from him and back to Shifu and Monkey.
"Thanks for knocking the wind out of him. Makes choking someone take a lot less time." Lyla thanked.
Both nodded in response.
"That was some attack. 'Night Daze', right?" Monkey asked curiously.
"It's a signature of my type of Zoroark. It's more of a last resort type of attack though." Lyla explained.
"Sometimes I forget just how innately powerful Pokémon are," Shifu stated.
Lyla shrugs. "Can't blame ya there. Our attacks are practically magic and while they do take effort to learn, it's quite common to learn it."
Suddenly sunlight shines down on them as they look up to see the plant life making up the arena is beginning to retract.
"With him unconscious, we can help the others when the walls come down," Lyla informed them.
Riley and Tigress vs. George [*snort*]
Like their allies, the fog and smoke across the field were thick and decreased the two's vision of their opponent. Like Lyla though, the two were still recovering a bit from their bout shortly before the trio made themselves known.
The two first attempted their best to see or hear the Simisear through the fog, but the sounds of the crackling fires and other battles in the other sections of the battlefield were too loud and the fog had become too thick to see through, not to mention the burning sensation they were feeling from the smoke.
Riley and Tigress stood back-to-back as they searched for their opponent.
"Pledge moves. Of course, you know pledge moves." Riley scoffed.
A cackling could be heard coming from around them.
"We're Elemental Monkeys, why wouldn't we use our skills?" George laughed with a slight echo.
Tigress saw movement out of the corner of her eye and tried to track it, only to fail.
"And you made sure to attack after some of us were worn out," Tigress noted.
"We're professionals, sweetheart. It's what we do. Do you think we'd bother with a fight we know we wouldn't be able to win?"
The two saw light and quickly rolled out of the path in opposite directions.
"We have our target, we get the job done, and we get paid. It's all a part of the job." George stated matter-of-factly.
Riley's eyes began to slowly glow as he looked around the arena. "'Get paid,' eh? Assassins. So, who hired you?"
The two heard a scoff. "As if I'd just tell you who hired us. It's not like it'll matter once our job is finished, and it's not like you would even know the client anyway." The Simisear answered cryptically.
Despite the disadvantages the Lucario and tiger were faced with, there was one advantage these two had: Riley's Aura Vision.
Riley's eyes glowed at full attention and the entire arena became clear to him. He could see the flourishing plant life that they stood within, the roots hidden just under the ground beneath it, the fires that burned along the plants…
And the Simisear that was running right at him and about to hit him with a flaming punch.
Riley, as swift as he could, grabbed the outstretched arm and threw the simian at the wall toward his nine. Riley winced slightly at the contact with the heated limb but let go as soon as possible. He coated his fists in a glowing protective Aura as he charged a small sphere of it in his hand, no larger than an apple.
Riley flung the orb at the Simisear who jumped from the wall as soon as he could. The attack nicked him in the tail, the rest of the attack exploding against the wall.
'Stealth attacks against a Lucario? These guys are either really bold or just plain stupid.' Riley thought.
With Riley's Aura working like a beacon, the light was making it easier for Tigress to keep track of her ally and search for the simian, who she could now tell was charging at her head-on.
Tigress retaliated against the incoming punch with a kick, the strikes canceling each other out. Taking the opportunity, Tigress surged forward with a flurry of strikes and putting the Simisear on the defensive.
George continued to block the hits coming at him, thankful that they were not as strong as they could've been had he and his brothers not waited when they did.
Tigress was barely able to hear the inhale before her opponent's crossed guard was dropped and a torrent of flames forced her to back away.
'Damn! I can barely get close to him! Pokémon really are built for battle!' Tigress internally grimaced.
The ground rumbled beneath the two as Riley saw their opponent strike the ground.
"Jump!" Riley called out, and both masters jumped up and held onto the ceiling a couple of meters away from each other. Where they once stood, another eruption of fire burst, scorching the ground they had once stood on.
The fog was beginning to clear a bit as the two saw the outline of their opponent through the smoke, Riley having to switch out of his Aura Vision briefly due to all the fire obscuring his vision.
The simian jumped up to them, grabbing a vine with his left arm and throwing punches at Tigress. At the same time, he started throwing kicks against Riley.
Tigress blocked the incoming punches with her free arm and Riley blocked the kicks with his own. This went on for a bit with the Simisear switching it up, swiveling to kick Tigress and punch Riley. This went on until the Simisear pulled his body up and grabbed the ceiling with his toes, now hanging upside-down without issue.
George continued his attacks, now alighting his fists and continuing to force his opponents on the defensive.
Riley grunted as he charged he glanced upward at the Simisear's feet, his attention drifting to the ceiling above them. Riley's expression hardened as he focused his Aura into his open hand, the arm glowing brightly as he pulled it back before throwing it forward again, the palm open.
"Force Palm!" Riley declared.
The blast of energy shot from the outstretched palm and forced its user back. The blast struck the ceiling, shooting a hole through it and causing Tigress and George to stumble before dropping in freefall back to the ground.
The Simisear bounced off the ground as Tigress shifted midair to land on her feet and brought her guard up.
The three all heard a different crackling sound from the fire as the plants encasing everyone began to retract. Soon enough, the walls fell and revealed both of George's brothers being restrained as the other began to slowly approach with their guards up.
George glared at the group from in front of the staircase leading down the mountain, his back to the stairs. "This isn't over yet!" The Simisear raged, a blaze of fire bursting from behind him. "WE WILL NOT BE DENIED! I'LL BURN YOU LOT TO ASHES, AND THEN I'LL DESTROY THAT VILLAGE YOU HOLD SO DEAR JUST TO SPITE YOU!"
The Simisear was absolutely enraged! The fire behind him burst higher in response to his anger as unbeknownst to him, a looming shadow could be seen coming behind him.
"I WILL NOT-"
"Hammer Arm!" A new voice called out.
Before the Simisear could even think to turn to the voice behind him, he felt a powerful blow strike his head, knocking him out instantly.
To the others looking on, a forearm as thick as the Simisear's head was wide, had cut through the fire. The hand itself was rather small compared to the arm. The arm swung downward in a hammering strike that crashed down on the simian's head with such force that some of them could swear they could hear bone crack, as the ground beneath the victim broke from the heavy hammer swing.
The simian's body recoiled from the blow, sending a shiver of sheer pain up and down his body. When the shiver finally reached the collision point again, the simian fell to the ground like a sack of potatoes and was very much unconscious.
With its creator knocked out, the fire died down, only leaving trace embers to smolder across the scorched ground. With the fire gone, the figure that had done the deed could now be seen.
"Hurk!" Bruce gagged, holding an arm over his mouth as he tried his best to not regurgitate the meal he had just had not long ago. He fought the urge to back down as he went to his hands and knees, panting heavily.
"So…many…stairs. I'll take…Mesagoza Academy…over this…any day." Bruce huffed. His stomach gurgled again with discomfort. "Ugh. Running up a mountain after a meal like that was not a good idea!" The mon lamented.
Riley winced in sympathy. 'I should probably get him a Pecha Berry.' Riley thought.
Shifu and the rest of the Five came over with their guards up. Viper was currently using her body to tie the other simians together until they could grab some proper restraints.
"Who are you?!" Shifu demanded. For all they knew this could be some kind of ruse.
The Gurdurr took a deep breath as he reached into his pocket fished out a metal badge and stood at attention, presenting the badge.
"I am operative Banner of Interpol. I believe we have some things to discuss." Banner introduced himself.
Outtake 1:
"Who are you?!" Shifu demanded. For all they knew this could be some kind of ruse.
The Gurdurr had now somehow turned green and was now sporting black hair atop his head as he roared, beating his chest like a gorilla.
"HULK IS THE STRONGEST THERE IS!"
Outtake 2:
"I am operative Banner of Interpol. I believe we have some things to discuss." Banner introduced himself.
CUT! THAT'S A WRAP FOR THE SCENE!
George rubbed his head as he got up. "Did you have to hit me that hard?"
Banner waved his hands defensively. "Sorry! I'm used to hauling around my trusty girder so I'm not the best at regulating my strength without it." Banner apologized.
George waved him off. "Nah, it's fine. I get it."
Po can be seen looking at a clipboard. "Alright. Looks like we're almost finished on the China set."
Riley popped his shoulder as he had a towel draped around his shoulders. "Sweet!"
LEGOBRICK13 cracked his knuckles. "Alright! Now it's time for me to get cookin'!"
Crane looked over to the yellow Riolu. "Doesn't he microwave most things? I don't think that counts as cooking."
"SHUT UP!"
Author's note: For anyone who didn't notice in the previous chapter, not only did I base their outfits on Vegeta's Saiyan armor from the Dragon Ball franchise, but if you notice, I made it that each of the unitards they're wearing is in reference to their pre-evolutions' in-game Shiny coloration, while their gloves and the armor itself are like their own Shiny colors.
I hope you enjoyed and feel free to review!
