Sadi despite their glee at finally being called their own person, was unbearably anxious and it was almost a relief when the nurse with the knock-out quirk arrived to put them both under.
They would have just used the regular sedatives, but they just didn't work on them, Fumi would be out like a light, but Sadi would be awake enough to know something was "wrong" and would lash out at anyone until Fumi woke up again, as they learned at a dentist visit one time.
Hence why quirks had to be used to put them under, the lady was super nice and had Fumi lay down before she used her quirk to sing them to sleep, it was a very pretty voice and Sadi wondered if it was because of her quirk or if she was just good at it before they passed out.
They had woken up a couple of hours later and instantly Sadi felt something was off, they shifted a bit and felt something odd about their space, they carefully shifted their claws over the odd part and felt something that felt sort of like thread? And there was this wet stuff on around it
*Sadi?* Fumi groggily called likely having just woken up and they chirped back.
*Here, Fumi. Something weird, my space has thread in it.* they told him running their hand on the thread and liquid again only for Fumi to wince and sharply inhale.
*Okay, that's what woke me.* Fumi commented, and they gave a short chirp of concern *I'm okay Sadi, but we found where your space was remember? It's some kind of special organ inside me, so when they did the biopsy, they had to make and repair a cut to see inside. I think you're feeling the stitches of the incision.* Fumi softly explained.
*Oh, I'm sorry Fumi I didn't-* Sadi tried to apologize immediately pulling their claws away from the wound.
*Shush, it's your space Sadi. If there was something weird in my room, I'd poke at it too. It's fine, you know I'm a light sleeper after a quirked knock out so it wouldn't take much to wake me.* Fumi assured them *Besides, it's just a temporary blip on the road to re-welcoming you back to where you always belonged by my side, as my sibling and not a dog.* Fumi added.
Sadi couldn't help a snort at that *You are so corny Fumi.* Sadi said back lightly nipping part of their space before deciding it was time to come out.
Leaving their space, they pushed into what they now believe was Fumi's stomach and jumped into his veins before pushing out of the pores and winced almost instantly as they were blinded by the light.
*Sorry Sadi, one of the nurses must have left the curtains open, if you move just to the right and feel around the wall you'll find a dampener.* Fumi instructed.
Nodding Sadi carefully drifted over to the wall and felt around before they found the switch and immediately plunged the room into near darkness, then slowly brought the lights back up to nightlight level.
It was their favorite level of lighting since both they and Fumi could see to a reasonable degree without the other to guide them, if it was too bright then it was up to Fumi and since they had perfect night vision anything below nightlight level was up to them.
There wasn't anyone else in the room other than Fumi, so Sadi floated back over to him and snuggled up in between his side and his arm, Fumi gently started stroking their feathers and they began chirping in return.
The two of them basked in the moment for a few minutes before Fumi sighed contentedly *Well, I'm still sore where they cut me open. Guts feel a bit weird but that's it for me. Do you feel anything?* Fumi asked his other hand going over his belly button briefly.
*Still waking up but other than that not really. Do you want me to page a nurse for some pain pills or something Fumi?* Sadi offered, spotting the call button on a tray in arms reach.
Fumi shook his head laying his head back down *No, just cuddles will be enough for now. I want to get as much as we can before our parents suffocate you with almost fifteen years of back pay on affection.* Fumi replied patting his chest.
Sadi nodded and crept up on his chest laying on top of him by spreading themselves out and the two of them basically just laid there quietly waiting for someone to come by.
They had about an hour before their mom came in, she had sat with them and explained what had happened while they were both out.
The biopsy went quite well and when they got to the odd organ beside his stomach the surgeon found Sadi curled up inside of it, something that had been mildly expected given the nature of the familiar quirks.
But when they examined the tissue sample that they took of the organ, they found that the flesh was only a 97% match to the blood sample they took from Fumi, which should be impossible because such a match would only come up if it came from an identical twin, the only way to confirm without a doubt if Dark Shadow was more than a familiar quirk would be if they had a physical body to also run that D.N.A. but given they were an elemental being and they hadn't found a way to test such people it was all just speculation.
Softly she took Fumi's hand and her eyes locked on first on Fumi's then to Sadi's "In light of this, a lot of old memories came back, ones where you insisted your imaginary friend wasn't just something you made up... Is-is there something you want to tell us? Something you couldn't before?" she asked, simple sincerity in her question.
Glancing at Sadi before he answered, Fumi took then gingerly motioned towards Sadi with his palm facing upwards "Mom, I'd like to introduce you to my life partner and most cherished companion, Tokoyami Sadi... My sibling and your other child." Fumi presented and their mom's eyes softened a bit.
She reached a hand out to them and hesitantly they moved forward and their mom started to stroke their feathers "It's, so wonderful to finally meet you little one." she said with a quite a bit of difficulty, clearly choked up as tears welled in her eyes.
Rushing forward they buried themselves in their face in their mom's neck as they hugged her "It's nice to meet you to mom." they whispered feeling their heart soar as mom hugged them back.
To say things were wildly different once they got home from the hospital was an understatement, they had already had proper introductions back in the hospital of their name and pronouns (Sadi, they/them) but their mother had wanted to sit down with the two of them and formerly apologize, firstly for being so dehumanizing to Sadi over the years and to tell them how sorry she was for being completely oblivious to something so obvious that strangers could pick up on it.
While neither of them held a grudge over their treatment it was relieving to hear one of them apologize for it, and though the two were dying to get to know Sadi they let them integrate themself at their own pace and of course since they didn't have to go on with their ruse a lot of the rules on themself were abandoned since they weren't needed anymore.
Their mother had offered to let them transfer to a different school given the reason for enrolling them there was no longer valid, but Sadi and Fumi shut that down really quick, the school was quite average to them but that would also mean that they wouldn't be able to see Bakugou again which wasn't happening.
Bakugou had never treated them anything less than human and showered them with gifts, he was their first friend and Sadi wasn't going to part with him without a fight, Fumi didn't feel quite as strongly as they did on the matter but was right alongside them in the fact that he didn't want to leave Bakugou behind.
However as great as everything was going there was only one incy-wincy little problem that had been bugging Sadi.
They had yet to find the perfect thank-you gift for helping them come forward to their parents as a person, they had been out of the hospital for months now and they still didn't have the faintest idea what to get him.
Their first thought was some kind of Christmas ornament that had like fourteen coats of glitter-paint but Fumi had pointed out that Bakugou might not appreciate it quite as much since he wasn't a bird like them and that they should get him something a touch more personal.
Sadi agreed but asked if they could still give him a bunch of marbles with glitter in them and Fumi agreed that would be the best way to give Bakugou glitter, so that was part of the gift solved but now Sadi had been low-key creeping on Bakugou to find something to give him but just couldn't figure it out.
The only reason they didn't feel completely like an idiot was because Fumi was also having trouble with this, because Bakugou didn't seem to have much going on in his life.
Sure, they knew he wanted to be a hero, went on hikes with his mom, and that he enjoyed pottery but that seemed to be it, he was a great student and never had a grade under an A- and he worked hard for those grades and even helped them with Fumi's.
The only other thing was the whole Izuku situation and Fumi had strictly forbade touching that subject with a ten-foot pole, as if they would know where to start with that mess, it was nice to know that Bakugou was talking with Izuku in letters now though and Sadi was glad they were able to do something to help Bakugou.
However, it was once school had started up again that Sadi finally thought of something that might help Bakugou out, there were probably better ways to find it out though admittedly.
They were sitting outside waiting for Bakugou to join them when the blonde stormed out of the building looking thunderously angry "Bakugou?" they called when he was just about to stomp right past them.
Bakugou had whirled around clearly ready to spit venom but stopped just short once he registered it was them and he took a deep breath, his fists clenched so tightly Sadi was quite worried he'd start bleeding "Bakugou?" Fumi repeated and the blonde tsked at them.
"I'm fine, ran into an asshole on the way to school and I'm just letting it get to my damn head. Don't starve yourselves over me you bible-thumping penguins." he grumbled through clenched teeth and left before they could say anything.
Bakugou apologized about it later over the phone and while Fumi told him not to ask Sadi wanted to know who dared to insult their friend because they had a firm talking-to to give them, something that got a rye chuckle from Bakugou "I'd love to see you try Potty but I'd probably kick your ass, complete dumbass jerk or not." Bakugou teased in good natured roughness.
It took a bit more prodding, but Sadi eventually figured out that Bakugou must have run into someone from his old school and that reminded him of his bad memories about Izuku and he was pissed at himself, or his past self to be more accurate.
And Sadi could understand that, they had identity problems going up, both they and Fumi had questioned a lot about themselves as they grew up, mostly about where one of them began and where the other ended but they could also get where a lot of his anger was coming from.
Old Bakugou was a super meanie and needed someone to kick his butt to get his head out of it, and his friend clearly seeing that was one of the reasons they were friends in the first place... but there was a lot of anger there that he clearly couldn't get out the normal ways.
Pondering Bakugou's self-hatred eventually gave them the idea they had been looking for and Sadi didn't hesitate to rush to Fumi's phone to search up local craft stores and hardware places for good measure.
He had to convince Fumi to go to the shop and buy the supplies for them but they were one hundred percent sure that Bakugou would like the present, and eagerly waited to give them to Bakugou the next day.
"For fucks sake, what is with you penguins?" Bakugou complained as Sadi dragged them outside to their backyard.
"I've got something for you!" Sadi cheerfully replied and Bakugou rolled his eyes with a tsk.
"Then why didn't you shove it in with my crap like you usually do?" Bakugou questioned.
"Because this one is super special! Here, look!" Sadi said grabbing the bag from Fumi and handing it to Bakugou.
The blonde raised an eye at them, but Fumi just looked away while Sadi motioned for him to go ahead and open it.
Bakugou shook his head then reached inside and pulled out a peg doll painted to look like him but in his middle school uniform "Eh?" Bakugou grunted clearly confused.
"Their anger dolls! I made them so you blow the old you up for being a super mean dick!" Sadi proudly told Bakugou, puffing up with pride.
Bakugou blinked startled by the answer "What?" he questioned.
"The anger you hold towards yourself while fair, is clearly troubling you since you can't physically do anything about it, Sadi believes that by blowing up these "anger dolls" as they've named them will help you safely release some of that anger via blowing up these instead of stewing in self-hatred." Fumi explained for them, and they nodded.
Bakugou's mouth opened then closed before his gaze fell to the doll in his hand, conflicting feels crossing his face, Sadi moved over and headbutted him "Do you like it? Do you? Do you?" Sadi asked.
Bakugou huffed "You're... insane, you know that you rejected muppet?" Bakugou replied with the tiniest of smiles betraying him and how he felt.
"You do like it! See, I told you he'd love them, Fumi!" Sadi happily chirped.
Only to jump when Bakugou put his arm around them and pulled them in closer kind of like a hug, something the blonde had never done before "Thanks Potty." Bakugou muttered softly.
Sadi smiled "Of course, what are friends for!" Sadi proclaimed nuzzling him back.
