Tamaki sighed as he climbed back up to the second-years floor alongside his friends. He was glad to leave the cafeteria early since people were being even louder than normal.
Was this how bad it was when they were first years? He hoped not.
"What do you think Jiki-Kun?" Hado asked launching herself at him and hanging off his shoulders bringing his attention back to the group.
"W-wha?" he sputtered until Miyake picked her up.
"About the new TA duh! Everyone has been talking about him, he's supposed to be super smart and the first years said it wasn't his quirk but everyone that had classes with him has no idea what his quirk is, I think someone mentioned starting a betting pool and everything!" Hado explained for him, not at all bothered at being man-handled like this at this point.
"Oh." Tamaki muttered glancing down at the floor *Right, that was what everyone was talking about.* he thought.
Tamaki knew rumors could travel fast, when he first started school it was like everyone knew he was Shinto overnight and it was even worse at U.A. since all the years ate in a large group in the same room and at the same time.
And the latest topic seemed to be the new teaching assistant, the man wasn't introduced yesterday with the other teachers and faculty which was weird, but those that had a class with him couldn't help talking about him.
The man was said to be very kind and strong, a first year girl couldn't stop gushing over how he hadn't hesitated to catch her when she had one of her Vertigo spells and that he was still standing even after her quirk was triggered.
Which sparked the conversations to turn to what kind of quirk Deku had, a lot of them thought he had to have some kind of resistance quirk of some form since he took a quirk shock on the chin and walked it off, others said it was a minor speed quirk from how fast he was able to move.
One of them even threw out the idea that Deku had a paperwork quirk, the only thing the students met Deku could agree on was that whatever his quirk was it had to be relatively weak because the man admitted he wasn't a hero.
Shamefully Tamaki had gotten sucked into the speculation, not about his quirk but about the title he had chosen to go by, who would want to be called a 'Deku' after all? He couldn't really imagine the kind of person that would want such a de-meaning nickname.
Tamaki stiffened when Oswald leaned over to him and whispered "Might want to answer the man-eater's question before she tries to get your attention again."
Flushed, he gave a slight nod and turned to Hado "Well, um, he sounds n-nice?" Tamaki told her fiddling with his sleeves "He uh, helped Haku-Kouchi after all." Tamaki added.
Haya huffed "I hope so, I don't think I could handle there being two Bullet-Senseis at the same time." she commented rubbing the back of her neck.
Tamaki nodded, Bullet-Sensei was just as intimidating after a full year of learning under her and he'd barely be able to keep from fainting under the pressure of two of them.
"Oh come on guys, Bullet-Sensei ain't that bad." Mirio told them lightly bumping Haya with his elbow "Could you imagine if General-Sensei taught anything other than P.E?" Mirio joked only for Miyake to whack him over the head.
"They are both fine teachers." Miyake stated "Not all of heroics is about being nice and our teachers might be strict because they have to be to get us to understand how serious we need to be about our studies." Miyake defended.
"Yeah, no need to dis the bog just because you don't know morse code stripper." Oswald pointed out putting both his arms behind his head.
"True." Mirio replied shaking his head with a chuckle making Tamaki smile, while Mirio had done his best to pretend names like that didn't hurt Tamaki always secretly feared it would get to his friend one day, and seeing him be so relaxed about it was soothing.
The floor lay out was the same on each floor so Mirio was forced to part from them as he entered 2-B's classroom, not before ruffling Tamaki's hair though. The group of now five continued on to 2-A's room, and much like the room's being in the same spots the classroom layouts were identical to the first year rooms.
They weren't the only ones there though, Smith, the girl with a slip and slide quirk of some kind had transferred into their class after she had done well in the festival, was sitting at her desk and working on catching up to them.
Smith glanced up at them then turned back to her work, not wanting to interrupt Miyake picked Hado up before she could go over and talk with her, the girl still seemed overwhelmed by the transfer and she didn't need Hado's energy to deal with on top of it.
Miyake herded them to the back of the class and Hado turned her attention back to them "What do you think we're going to learn today? I mean, we went over a lot of stuff last year, how much more could we have to learn?" Hado asked from where she was dangled by Miyake.
Miyake shot her a look "Quirk theory is a very complex subject Hado." Miyake scolded though no one took it too harshly, Miyake always a touch more defensive of the class than most.
"But I just don't know how much more we could learn about quirks Miyake-Kun." Hado whined and Tamaki knowing the conversation from the hundreds of times before just chose to tune it out knowing neither of them would be offended, and Tamaki pulled out his text book and started re-reading the chapters on the difference between transformation and mutations.
Tamaki had become more interested in quirk theory since he learned he could possibly copy other quirks, he had a healthy respect for the course before and he might've done better if he wasn't so intimidated by Bullet-Sensei.
He had wanted to learn more about quirks so that he could understand more about the changes his body could go through to mimic quirks, mutation quirks were the safest since he was rather used to his body changing to animals or inorganic material.
Other transformation and emitter quirks made him nervous though, he hadn't tried either yet for various reasons, he didn't even know if he could copy emitters at all and they didn't really know anyone with transformation quirk that would let him have a hair to test their quirk with.
Then there was the fact that he was still adjusting to the idea he could copy quirks at all, he had managed to avoid anyone other than his friends learning about it yet by lying about eating lizards when he was using Miyake's.
His friends had all thought it was cool and amazing so it had taken a lot of convincing to keep them from telling anyone, but Tamaki knew better than to let information like that to get spread around, Tamaki was sure Miyake knew better too since he backed him up when he begged them not to tell anyone.
A lot of people didn't like copy quirks as a general rule but a copy quirk based on what was essentially cannibalism? Tamaki would be lucky if they didn't lock him up, never mind pulling him from the hero course.
And his family? Tamaki wasn't sure his mom would ever be able to look him in the eyes again but there was no doubt his aunts would disown him and never let his cousins anywhere near him ever again.
"Some thing bugging you Jiki?" Oswald asked throwing an arm around his shoulders and leaning over to see what he was reading, and to Tamaki's credit in growing confidence he had only flinched at the action, though part of that was because he was growing more used to Oswald's growing touchy-feely side.
That being said he couldn't help his cheeks growing warmer over how close the pinkette was and how comfortable it felt, Tamaki wished he could push all of his feelings aside as just him being nervous around other people but the flutter in his chest meant it unfortunate wasn't just that.
Tamaki was always aware of his 'swinging the other way' as Mirio put it but other than with Mirio he hadn't gone out of his way to tell anyone, his aunts certainly wouldn't approve and would have blamed Mirio for encouraging him.
And over the years Tamaki had his fair share of crushes over the years so he could tell when he was interested in someone, the only problem was that he was never interested in anyone he 'personally' knew. Mirio was really nice but they grew up together and more like brothers, and given how his previous peers were he couldn't have found anyone more than passingly attractive.
Enter one Miyake and Oswald and that safety of crushing on people he'd never met was stripped away in a second.
Tamaki had gotten over the crush on Miyake, it wasn't anything more than a passing attraction, new friend jitters, and teenage hormones he supposed but the crush on Oswald was a newer thing and one that hit him like a truck out of nowhere.
He suspected it had something to do with what happened at the mall, the searches on his phone gave him the name for it since he couldn't remember but he really hoped that it was the Nightingale syndrome that was causing these bubbling feelings.
Because the alternative was that he was somehow falling for one of his friends and Tamaki just couldn't deal with that, it was hard enough talking with all of his friends at the same time but if he actually did have a crush on Oswald he'd have to resign himself to never being able to look at the pinkette again without turning into muttering mess.
Tamaki was forced out of his thoughts when one of Oswald's hair curls bopped him on the nose "Earth to cannibal one, you listening?" Oswald questioned with a raised eye and Tamaki's blush got even worse from getting so lost to his mind's rambling.
Before he could apologize though Miyake stiffened, poking his tongue out three times in a row seemingly taken aback by something and quickly took his seat distracting all of them "Yo, you okay there mini-zilla?" Oswald asked thankfully moving away from Tamaki and letting his heart calm down some.
"The teachers are coming, you should get to your seats." Miyake replied his eyes locked on the door, Oswald frowned and gave him a look and Tamaki couldn't help feeling the same and glanced at the girls who looked just as lost to Miyake's odd behaviour, silently they agreed to do what he said and the other three went over to their seats.
Not two minutes later Bullet-Sensei and a young boy he only recognized from the memes Mirio had been spamming their group chat with for the past week, Tamaki blinked staring at the kid wondering why he was there in their class but turned his eyes right back to Bullet-Sensei when she slapped her hand down on the podium.
"Congrats on making it through the first year brats, hopefully you can make it through another year without utterly fouling it up." Bullet-Sensei greeted rolling her eyes "As I'm sure you've noticed I've got a shadow this year, this is Midoriya, he's my teaching assistant for the year and you'll call him Deku." Bullet-Sensei said introducing the boy.
The greenette smiled and bowed to them as she introduced him but Tamaki's head was still spinning from the news that apparently the new TA being the kid from the news that back talked and threatened a hero.
Bullet-Sensei scowled at the class as the ones close enough for it began whispering with each other and shook her head "Seeing as you can't be bothered to pay attention yet you'll be allowed one question for Deku before we begin the lesson so make it a good one." Bullet-Sensei told them a vein on her head visibly pulsing.
Hands were quickly in the air and after sweeping the class Bullet-Sensei chose Hado who was practically bouncing on her feet and she nearly squealed when she was picked "Deku-San are you Miyake-Kun's old tutor? He told us once he used to be tutored by someone named Midoriya, is that you? Is it, is it?" Hado asked practically stars in her eyes.
Tamaki's brain ground to a halt and mouth fell partially open, he had almost forgotten about it but Tamaki did remember Miyake mentioning a Midoriya back during the sports festival, was this person really the Midoriya Miyake meant? It would explain how Miyake reacted.
Everyone seemed to be surprised by Hado's question except for Miyake who was too busy keeping his eyes locked on the greenette, Midoriya blinked tilting his head then chuckled little scratching his cheek with a single finger "Ah, I am, I tutored Miyake-Kun back when he was in middle school." Midoriya answered.
Hado gasped clapping her hands "I knew it!" she cheered voicing her excitement while he was mentally sputtering. Miyake knew the guy that fought with a hero and won? Why on earth did Miyake and his sister think he had anything in common with someone so brave as Midoriya apparently was?
"Now that you've had your question, class we will be going over the I.Q.C. Show of hands for how many of you have heard of the IQC." Bullet-Sensei asked redirecting everyone's attention to her.
Three people raised their hands and Bullet-Sensei chose Smith "The IQC is better known as the international quirk class system, it is a ranking system made after the second quirk war by the United Nations as a universal system meant to be shared with all the countries." Smith explained.
Bullet-Sensei nodded "Indeed, in most cases people do not put much care into what the system is or why it exists because it rarely affects the average civilian's life, as heroes however you will become more aware of the IQC as you gain a proper reputation."
"The IQC isn't a hero ranking system but a way to determine how dangerous a quirk is, it normally deals with those trying to move to another country or international traveler but as aspiring heroes you too will need a basic understanding of the ICQ and how it will affect you." Bullet-Sensei further elaborated and bringing up the tablet she tapped a few things and the black board changed.
A multi-colored pyramid with different names showed up "Now the way the IQC works is by ranking how dangerous a quirk is if the person was given twenty-four hours to destroy the world, there are a total of five quirks classes at the moment, the first being garden class." Bullet-Sensei told them pointing to the large section at the bottom.
"Garden class quirks have little to no danger to us, this group is made up of quirks that are mainly cosmetic, such as the ability to change the color of your hair or eyes, quirks like this would offer no help in destroying the world unless given the best circumstances, being in the right place and a lot of luck." she told them before moving on to the next group.
"Butterfly class quirk on the other hand is the largest of the five, most people fall into group as most people have quirks that can be used to their users' advantage and dangerous in specific circumstances albeit indirectly, think of say... someone with a color changing quirk, they could change the color of someone's medication which could be dangerous to a fair number of people if they also worked at a pharmacy." she explained.
"Intermediate quirks are the second most common and are quirks that are openly more dangerous with enough training and work, Smith's slip and slide quirk is a good example of an Intermediate quirk. She can move much faster than most from how she trained but it's the extra slippy streaks she leaves behind that could cause more damage." Bullet-Sensei said and Smith ducked her head flustered at being pointed out.
"Hazard quirks are where things get a bit muddled, people with these quirks are often trained to be more aware of their quirk and the damage it can cause from a young age but there is also a lot of mutation quirks, in this class because the dangers of these quirks are more inherently obvious. Haya's quirk if used in a power plant could easily cause a mass scale blackout and kill hundreds." Bullet-Sensei told them and Haya ducked her head too, looking slightly ashamed.
Tamaki winced in sympathy, she had told them once about how she had knocked out the power in her building by accident when she was six.
"And finally we have the most dangerous class which is also the smallest, Void quirks are heavily monitored after they are discovered, this is because the people in this group even in very poor conditions are capable of destroying all life on earth in less than twenty-four hours if they use their quirk right." Bullet-Sensei said and Tamaki's stomach tightened as for a brief second he worried Bullet-sensei would point to him when her eyes landed on him.
"I, myself am Void classed, as are quite a few tech based quirks. My quirk: Type Wyrm gives me full access to any device I draw a wyrm on it, most people would think my class of Void as odd based on this simple description but if I got my hands on just one nuclear missile I could easily wipe out all life on earth by triggering the M.A.D contingency." Bullet-Sensei told them instead and Tamaki's mouth fell open.
"Or if I got to a government server room I could take complete control over countless bombing drones, not to mention how easy it would be for me to send our civilization back into the dark ages by destroying the global internet servers with a simple coded virus, just like Welsh Devin nearly did in 2264, almost wiping away all information and advancements made since the 1920's." Bullet-Sensei added.
Tamaki like most of the class stared at her horrified.
"Any questions?" Bullet-Sensei asked as if she hadn't told them that utterly life-changing information.
Miyake: Why didn't you tell me you were going to U.A?
Midoriya: Why didn't you?
Both:...
Miyake: Touché
