Bilbo knew who was knocking at the door before it was even answered. He had seen the semi-familiar car drive by earlier, which meant that Thorin Durin was home. And whenever Thorin was home, Bilbo knew he could count on Kili to come running to his house. Modern AU. warning for mention of an abusive relationship.

Bilbo, tired of the way Thorin was treating him, decides to leave camp after being rescued by Thorin from the side of the cliff face. Thorin watches as Bilbo walks out, away from the camp he decides to stop him and finally tells him why he's being the way he is. Rough, gruff and untouchable turns to loving, passionate and sweet. All of the dwarves survive the Battle of the Five Armies, but Bilbo must return to the Shire to sort out his old life and make way for a new one in Erebor. Over one year later, Bilbo comes back to the Lonely Mountain with a recently orphaned Frodo. King Thorin isn't quite sure what to make of this new, tiny addition to his Company.
