As he scours the former battlefield for his weapons, he thinks on how much and how little has changed, and how his own understanding of the world has been affected by the war.

Aang's declaration that he will not kill the Fire Lord causes Zuko to dwell on the young Airbenders hypocrisy. After all, why should the life of the Fire Lord be worth more than the life of a foot soldier?
