Chapter one:
Mello steps forward and looks upon the building he's been brought to.
It looks like an olden day orphanage with high stone wall fences.
Whammy's asylum is a place for the gifted who suffer from various mental illnesses.
Founded by Watari who became a legal guardian of a mentally ill boy who had a passion of solving crime. He wished to be able to help those like the one he has taken under his wing; being a retired investigator himself.
Mello takes a breath then heads inside. He hates that he has been deemed mentally ill enough to be sent here. He just lost his parents to a murder and now he's being sent here. He supposes he can't be too mad since he was kept in his family home, even being homeschooled by his inventor father, to hide his mental illness. Thus he has no friends. He walks towards the front doors trying to seem confident. He won't give anyone the satisfaction of seeing him falter. He knows his parents hated visible weakness so surely others will target him if he shows it. He glances around as the woman who brought him here takes the lead.
Heads turn as other kids and teens look upon Mello as though judging fresh meat.
One even twitches a bit with his right shoulder raising then dropping, and his eye twitching as well.
Mello turns away before something from the corner of his eye catches his attention. He slows to a stop looking at what has gotten his attention.
There is one boy who looks maybe a year or two younger than Mello just sitting looking out a window. He is unmoving even as someone runs past the window outside.
The woman slows to a stop noticing Mellos pause. She comes over to him and looks to where he is looking. "Oh. That's Near. Don't mind him. He tends to stare off into space outside of windows. He doesn't respond so don't get upset if he doesn't talk to you."
"Has anyone heard his voice?" Mello questions slightly glancing to the lady who shakes her head. He looks back to Near, knowing it isn't his real name as all who come here are giving an alias just in case, deciding right then and there that he will be the first to hear Near speak.
"Come. We need to get you registered."
"Fuck you lady. Go do it yourself." Mello growls turning in an anger burst. He clenches his teeth as he tries to push down the demon inside trying to take control. His hands balling up into fists.
The woman does get the briefest look of fear though stands her ground. She was clearly briefed on what was found in Mellos evaluation.
Mello would have charged if not for seeing her grabbing a small tranquilizer gun from her belt. He only knows what it is as his father carried the same gun just in case. He manages to swallow back his demons and relax his body.
They can call it multiple personality if they want.
Mello will always see it as his demon, especially knowing the anger his demon is capable of. He's just glad that he wasn't the one who killed his family.
It was all a robbery gone wrong.
The woman waits a few moments to ensure that she isn't being tricked. She then relaxes and puts the gun away. "Walk beside me." She clearly doesn't trust that Mello won't go after her if she turns her back.
Mello moves to be slightly in front of her as they continue forward. He clenches his teeth trying to ignore his demon pleading to come out. He has limited control as is and he has learned to cherish moments he manages to control it. He looks to the headmaster in his office.
"Greetings. You must be Mello." The headmaster nods in greeting not getting up from sitting at his desk. "My name is Roger. It is nice to meet you." He slides a few items towards Mello who approaches the desk to look.
Mello sees an ID card, specially crafted to be safe from any who are suicidal.
A laminated paper version with the cut lamination done so they can't cut themselves with it.
There is also a laminated paper with an activity list at certain times, and also his schedule for treatment as well as for any mandatory classes. He does like it as he does still get time to himself.
"I also would like to inform you that each staff member is prepared to knock out anyone who poses a threat. If you show to be a threat to others you will be put into a cell until we can ensure you are not a threat."
Mello nods having a feeling that he will end up there at some point. He takes the two laminated things and follows the woman to his room. He notes that there is no way to truly block the door, or even lock it, as the bed is against the wall more than likely attached to the wall. He glances at the mattress noting that it is comfy enough with it showing a few spots where it is tied to the frame. He can see some zip ties. He doesn't doubt that the rest is done so it cannot be taken off so easily.
Which will give personal enough time to react before anything can happen.
Mello can't see anything though he has a feeling that there is some kind of camera. He thinks this since it might be to ensure that something isn't snuck past the staff, which might pose a danger to anyone including the patient themselves.
"I will let you get settled. Your schedule starts tomorrow. Take today to get comfortable." The woman leaves with that.
Mello puts his ID and schedule down on his bed. He then leaves the room to go find Near. He finds that he hasn't moved. He starts to approach when a boy with orange lensed goggles, and red hair, quickly moves in his way. He narrows his eyes at the other.
The boy smiles at him. "Hi! My names Matt. You must be Mello."
Mello is taken in shock that this as he doubts his information was shared. "How do you know that?!" He demands narrowing his eyes.
"Chill." The red head leans back a little clicking his tongue a little before speaking again. "I look up everyone here. I have my ways of getting into those files they think is safe."
Mello is so ready to punch out this red head for snooping into his business.
"You want to try to break Near from his silent trance." The red mentions and Mello gets up in his face. He doesn't even flinch not even when Mello growls at him.
"What's it to you!?" Mello demands and the red head keeps his gaze on Mellos blue one's.
"If that's your plan then we're going to be working together." The red mentions without a sign of fear. "I've already by trying to do that."
"Whatever makes you think I'd work with you?" Mello snorts at this.
"I've been doing this longer than you have. I've got two months of trying ahead of you."
Mello can start to feel the demon trying to bubble back up. He tries to swallow it back while trying to decide if it would be worth it to join forces with this red head. He takes a step back still being within striking distance to attack if he wants.
The red head offers his hand for a handshake. His smile infuriating Mello even more. "Call me Matt."
