Skye got to the warehouse and went right into the building. She could hear voices inside, and they didn't notice her coming in at first. There were about a dozen people there. All but one were teenagers. Kate was among them.
"HEY!" She yelled to get their attention.
They all looked up.
"You looking for me?" Skye asked. "Come and get me."
The only adult there tilted his head. "Who are you exactly?"
"Come on, are you really that clueless?" Skye asked. She looked over at Kate. "Maybe you can tell him who I am?"
Kate let out a breath. "Skye, this isn't what it looks like…"
"Oh, so you haven't been interning for an organization that is hell-bent on bringing the Avengers down and using me to do it? You haven't agreed to try and lure me to the people in charge so they could get my DNA and try and recreate the super serum?" Skye asked.
"Skye, you don't know who the Avengers really are. I get it, they are your family. But they aren't good people. You weren't going to be hurt," Kate said.
"Oh, so you have been brainwashed? That is bullshit, and you know it. You really think they would get to recreate the super serum and wouldn't have someone hurt or kill me?" Skye asked.
"I was promised you wouldn't be hurt," Kate said.
"Kate, are you actually expecting me to believe you are that stupid? You were my best friend. We only survived the hell we went through because of each other. This goes beyond breaking the code of foster kids having each other's backs," Skye said.
"None of us are in foster care anymore," Kate said.
"You're right. But I thought we were friends. You came to my birthday. You came to my home, and the people you are working to bring down have welcomed you into our home. Did you just come to try and sneak into an office to get information?" Skye asked, holding back tears.
"You are just a kid. You don't understand," Kate said.
"I understand that you are working for people who want to hurt me and the people who saved me, and that will never be okay," Skye said.
While Kate and Skye were talking a few of the other teenagers tried to sneak behind her to get her. But Skye sensed them coming and swung around and pushed them a few feet away.
"I don't want to hurt any of you. But I will get my point across," Skye said.
The man smirked. "You might be able to take on one or two of them alone, but one word from me, and they all attack. And I have already sent a message, more will be here shortly."
"You will be unable to move by the time they get here," Skye said.
"You think you can take us all on? Alone?" one of the teenagers said.
"Try me," Skye said.
"You heard her," the man said.
They all ran at her, and Skye started to fight them. Before she had time to think, more people showed up and were going after her. One of them managed to knock her off her feet.
Skye yelped as she hit the ground. Her helmeted head and shoulders smashed into the cement floor.
Thankfully, the Avengers arrived just in time.
Peter shot out his web and it wrapped around her. He pulled her out of the middle of the commotion, while Tony, Wanda, Thor, Rhodey, and Vision started to fight those who had been trying to hurt Skye.
Skye whimpered.
"Are you okay?" Peter asked her.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Let me go," Skye said.
"Spiderman, get her out of here! Take her back to the compound." Tony said.
"No! I want to fight," Skye said as she fought against Peter. She managed to squirm away and take off to try and fight.
Wanda grabbed her. "Don't argue. Get out of here, now."
Peter took her from Wanda and held her tighter as he swung away from the mess.
"Pete, come on take me back, please!" Skye begged.
"No. Are you hurt?" Peter asked.
"No, I'm okay," Skye said just before she passed out.
Peter swung back to the compound and down to Banner's lab, where he was waiting for them.
As Peter set her on the table she was going in and out of consciousness.
"We got there just as she was slammed into the ground. Her head hit the ground, but she had her helmet on. She was conscious when we got there and not acting like anything was wrong. But she started to lose consciousness as we were heading back," Peter told him.
Banner carefully removed her helmet. "Skye, I need you to wake up and talk to me."
"I'm awake," she said, groggily opening her eyes a bit.
"Tell me your name," Bruce said.
"Skyler," Skye said.
"Good, how old are you?" Bruce asked.
"Thirteen," Skye said.
"Good," Bruce said.
Skye closed her eyes.
"Keep your eyes open," he said, as he put an IV in her arm.
"But I'm so tired," Skye said.
"That is the concussion making you feel that way. You have to stay awake," Bruce said.
"I'll try," Skye said.
"Peter, can you help? Prop her legs up, please," Bruce said as he hooked her up to a few monitors.
Peter did so, putting a pillow under them.
"Thank you," Bruce said as he injected some medication into Skye's IV.
"I can't believe Kate thinks the Avengers are the bad guys," Skye said softly.
"She is being brainwashed to think that," Peter said.
"Yeah, but she has been around many of them," Skye said.
"I know," Peter said. "I'm sorry your friend is working for the wrong side."
"She's not my friend anymore. A friend wouldn't be trying to hurt me," Skye said as she started to drift off.
"No, open your eyes," Bruce said.
"I'm sorry," she said softly as she fell asleep.
Bruce injected a second medication into her IV. "Skyler, you need to wake up now."
Skye groaned as she came to a few seconds later.
"I know you're not feeling well right now, but you have got to stay awake," Bruce said.
"I'm trying," Skye said in tears.
"I know," Bruce said. "I'm not angry with you, I just need you to fight to stay awake."
"Okay," Skye said softly.
Shortly after Steve came into the lab.
"Is she okay?" Steve asked, coming over to her side.
"She has a concussion, and I'm having trouble keeping her conscious," Bruce said.
"Dad, I'm so sorry," she said in tears.
"Don't worry about that right now. Just focus on staying awake," Steve said.
"Please don't take this away from me," Skye mumbled.
"Skye, I'm not taking anything away from you permanently," Steve said.
"I don't want to go," Skye mumbled as she started to drift off again
"Hey, no. You stay awake. That's an order," Bruce said.
"I'm trying!" she whined.
"You know how much of a badass you looked like out there?" Peter said.
"What?" Skye said, waking up a little.
"You were an idiot to go after them alone. But you looked like a badass till you were knocked off your feet," Peter said.
"Awesome," Skye said with a smile.
Steve shook his head. There was a small smile on his face
"Daddy, I'm really sorry, but it was awesome," Skye said.
Steve let out a breath. "I get that, and you are in a lot of trouble. But I think maybe it's time for me to realize that you are more ready for this than I want to admit."
Tony came into the room. "Is she going to be okay?"
"I think so," Bruce said.
"Is everyone else okay?" Skye asked.
"Yes," Tony said. "Thankfully."
"And what happened to the other side?" Steve asked.
"A lot of them are dead, a few were arrested by SHIELD," Tony said.
"Kramer?" Steve asked.
"He's the only one who got away," Tony said.
"Kate?" Skye asked.
"She was arrested," Tony said.
"Good," Skye said.
"Now that you seem to be more awake, does anything hurt?" Bruce asked.
"My head," Skye said.
"Anywhere else?" Bruce asked.
"No," Skye said.
"You feel nauseated at all?" Bruce asked.
"Yes," Skye said.
"How is your vision? Are you dizzy?" Bruce asked.
"Yes, to dizzy. I think my vision is fine," Skye said softly.
"Do you still feel like you are going to pass out?" Bruce asked.
"No," Skye said.
"Okay, well, just rest," Bruce said.
Skye nodded a little and closed her eyes.
It wasn't long until everyone had come to check on Skye. At one point Steve got a text and left the room.
When Wanda came into the lab. She just shook her head as she looked at Bruce. "How is she doing?"
"She is going to be okay. She has a concussion," Bruce said.
"Skyler, are you awake?" Wanda asked her.
Skye opened her eyes. "Yeah."
"What were you thinking, Малиша?" Wanda asked
Skye tilted her head. "What does that mean?"
"It means little one. What were you thinking?"
"I just wanted to be able to prove I could fight," Skye said softly.
"That was not in question. You can fight. But you can't go in alone, none of us can. going at it alone is when people get hurt or people die," Wanda said.
"I'm sorry," Skye said.
"Sometimes a simple sorry is not enough," Wanda said.
Skye nodded a little.
"I do not know what your dad is going to decide happens from here on out. But if you do something like this again, I will not continue training you regardless of what he or anyone else says," Wanda said.
"Got it," Skye said. "I won't do it again."
"Good," Wanda said.
"If we get you up and moving, you can move up to your own bed," Bruce said.
"Yes, please," Skye said as she sat up slowly.
"You need to be honest with the questions I ask," Bruce said.
"Okay," Skye said.
"Any dizziness?" Bruce asked.
"Yup and nauseous," Skye said.
"Worse than when you were laying down?" Bruce asked.
"No," Skye said.
"Stand up and let me know if you feel worse," Bruce said.
Skye did so and steadied herself before she took a breath and a few steps. "It's about the same."
"Good," Bruce said. "Now come sit back down."
Skye did so.
"Do you know where Steve is?" Bruce asked Wanda.
"I'm not sure," Wanda said. She took out her phone and texted Steve to come back down.
Steve was there in a few minutes.
"You okay, Skye?" Steve asked.
"A little better," Skye said.
"She is okay to be moved to her room. She will probably be more comfortable there," Bruce said.
"Okay, good," Steve said.
Bruce removed her IV and the monitors, "But you need to take it easy. No training for at least a month. And, if you start to feel worse, you make sure you tell someone. Someone needs to check on her every couple of hours,"
"Understood," Skye said.
"I will check on her," Steve said.
"I can help," Wanda said.
Steve nodded to Wanda. "Thank you."
"You can go. I will be checking on you regularly," Bruce said.
Skye stood up and went with her dad towards the elevator.
They got on the elevator, and Skye leaned against the back wall. Steve pushed the buttons to head up and stood next to her.
"So, when does the lecture start?" Skye asked.
"When you are feeling better," Steve said.
"That could be weeks, and the anticipation of waiting for the lecture is going to make me feel worse," Skye said.
Steve let out a breath as the elevator landed on the correct floor. "Come on, let's get you to bed."
"Can I take a shower first?" Skye asked.
"Sure," Steve said.
Skye went and took a shower.
Steve sat outside the bathroom to make sure she didn't fall. When she came out he made sure she got into bed.
"Rest. We can talk about everything tomorrow," Steve said.
"Okay," Skye said.
"Make sure you let me know if you start feeling worse," Steve said.
"I will," Skye said.
Steve headed out of her room, stopping to look back at her.
"Skye, you messed up, but that doesn't change the fact that you are loved and wanted here. You know that, right?" Steve asked.
Skye looked up at him. "I-I wasn't sure."
"Skye, you are going to mess up as you learn, as you grow, and there will be consequences. But that doesn't change your place here, or how anyone feels about you," Steve said.
Skye nodded a little and wiped away a tear.
Steve went over and sat next to her and wrapped her in a hug.
Skye hugged him and broke down sobbing.
Steve held her and let her sob until she calmed down and pulled away.
"I'm thirsty," she said softly.
Steve nodded and got up. "I'll be right back." He went and got her a bottle of water and went back to her room and handed it to her.
She opened the bottle and took a sip.
"Thank you," she said.
Steve nodded. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, just tired," Skye said.
"Okay, you need sleep. I promise we will talk about everything tomorrow," Steve said.
"Okay," Skye said.
Steve kissed her head before he left her room and let her go to sleep.
