The next day Skye left the school, and Happy was there waiting. Skye smiled a bit and went over and got into his car.
"Afternoon," Happy said.
"Hey, Happy," Skye said. "Everyone's back then?"
"Yes, we are all back in one piece," Happy said.
They started the drive.
"Heard you had an eventful few days," Happy said.
Skye let out a breath. "How much did you get told?"
"More like overheard, but your abilities got out of control?" Happy said.
"Yeah, I got overwhelmed with a lot of things," Skye said. "Heard anything else?"
"Morgan almost got caught up in it," Happy said.
Skye closed her eyes and let out a breath. "How pissed is Tony with me?"
"I don't think he is," Happy said.
Skye nodded slightly.
They got home without much more conversation.
Skye went inside and to the library, where she could hide.
Ten minutes later Steve walked into the library. "Hi."
"Hi, Dad," Skye said, looking up at him from the love seat she was sitting in.
Steve went over to her and opened his arms.
Skye fell into his embrace. "Missed you, Dad."
"Missed you too, peanut," Steve said.
"Peanut?" Skye said with a small smile.
"Would you prefer mini-me?" Steve asked with a smile.
Skye giggled a little and shook her head.
"So, we have a lot to talk about," Steve said.
Skye nodded and sat back down.
"Let's start with are you really okay?" Steve asked as he sat next to her.
"Physically I'm okay," Skye said.
Steve nodded. "Okay. Good."
"I'm sorry, Dad," Skye said.
"What are you sorry for?" Steve asked.
"Letting my abilities get out of control," Skye said softly.
"That was not your fault, Skyler, You have no reason to apologize for that. No one here is angry with you for that," Steve said.
"Morgan could have ended up hurt. How can anyone forgive that? How can Pepper and Tony forgive that?" Skye said.
"Because no one here thinks you did that on purpose. Did you?" Steve asked.
"Of course not," Skye said softly.
Steve lifted her chin and ensured she was looking at him. "Than, Skye, that was not your fault."
"Okay," Skye said softly, still not fully believing that no one blamed her.
"Next topic, going to an area of the city I told you never to go, not doing your homework, disobeying Bucky. He and I spoke about it. He said you two figured it out, and you apologized. I'm not going to come down on you. But do not do it again," Steve said.
"Understood," Skye said.
"Good," Steve said
"Next, Tucker and you? What's going on there?" Steve asked.
"His cousin tried to screw with our friendship. We talked. There are feelings on both ends, but nothing is going to come of it. For now," Skye said.
Steve nodded.
"Not until I'm at least sixteen," Skye said.
"Okay," Steve said. "Anything else we need to cover?"
"Um, don't think so. Well, did Bucky mention that I know?" Skye asked.
Steve smiled. "Right. Yes, he did. He also said you were going to keep it to yourself for now."
"I will keep it to myself unless you tell me I can otherwise," Skye said.
"Thank you," he said. "How do you feel about it?"
"I'm glad you're happy," Skye said.
"I'm glad, but that doesn't tell me if you are okay with it," Steve said.
Skye smiled. "Yes, Dad, I have no issues with it."
Steve smiled. "Good. Now have you caught up on all the missing homework?"
"Yes, otherwise I'd have been in detention again," Skye said.
"Homework tonight?" Steve asked.
"Yes," Skye said.
"You're going to do it in here?" Steve asked.
"My room. . . is trashed," Skye said.
"We will get it fixed up, but focus on your homework, okay?" Steve asked.
Skye nodded.
Steve got up and left the room.
Skye started on her homework.
Steve went and found Tony in his office, "Hey, how's Morgan?"
"She's okay. I don't think she thought she was in any danger. Bucky doesn't even seem to think she would have hurt her, that she had more control over it than she thinks," Tony said.
"She's having a hard time wrapping her head around you and Pepper not being angry with her," Steve said.
"That's why she's been avoiding Pepper?" Tony asked.
"Would make sense," Steve said, sitting in the chair on the opposite side of the desk from where Tony was sitting.
"I'll talk to her, get Pepper to do the same," Tony said.
"Thank you," Steve said.
"You tell her about what we found out on this mission?" Tony asked.
"Not yet, but I will. I just need to have more information to give her than what we have," Steve said.
Tony nodded. "Your choice."
"You think I'm wrong?" Steve asked.
"I think you're a father wanting to protect his daughter. But you're forgetting that she has these abilities we know almost nothing about, and if we want her to be able to get them in control we need to arm her with all the information we can," Tony said.
Steve nodded. "She already thinks these abilities come from evil. If I tell her what we found out without any other information, it's just going to make her think she is evil."
Tony nodded.
"Especially after what happened while we were away," Steve said.
Tony nodded again, "I promise I will talk to her let her know I don't blame her, and I'm sure Pepper will do the same."
"I know, but that doesn't mean Skye will not blame herself. She carries so much guilt for things she doesn't need to," Steve said, shaking his head.
"I don't know where I heard it before, but children in foster care, for some reason, seem to feel the need to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders," Tony said. "And I don't think that feeling would just go away when she came here."
Steve nodded.
Tony got up and went over to and patted his friend's shoulder. "I'm going to go talk to her."
"Okay, she is in the library," Steve said.
"And we will all help her realize she is not evil, regardless of where her abilities come from," Tony said.
Steve nodded. "Thank you."
Tony went into the library, leaning on the door frame.
Skye saw who it was and looked down.
"Kid, look at me please," Tony said.
Skye looked up at him.
"I do not blame you for what happened. You are still learning about this ability and how to control it. And you did not hurt her. I believe Bucky when he says he does not think you could have hurt her," Tony said.
Skye looked down again.
"Skyler, you have no reason to feel guilty, Pepper doesn't blame you either. And Morgan has asked over and over if you are okay. She doesn't think she was in any harm either," Tony said.
Skye nodded.
"Skye, look at me," Tony said.
Skye took a breath and looked up.
"You do not need to feel guilt about this. I need you to say that it's not your fault, out loud," Tony said.
"No," she said softly.
"Why not?" Tony asked.
"Because I was not in control. If Morgan had taken a step into my room she would have been hurt. The only reason she wasn't is because Bucky grabbed her before she could," Skye said.
"Okay, let's say that's true. You still can't blame yourself for something you can not control," Tony said.
"Maybe not, but that's why I shouldn't be here. I should be somewhere I can't hurt anyone because I can't control it," she said softly, looking down at her hands.
"Skyler, no," Tony said shaking his head. "You belong here. You are one of us now, and none of us are perfect. We all lose control sometimes. But we help each other. Skye, you are an Avenger. Meaning you belong here."
Skye looked up at him.
"What? Did you not realize you are one of us?" Tony asked.
Skye shrugged, "I just thought I was in training, not an Avenger yet."
"Yes, you're in training, we all are always in training to get better, but you are an Avenger, kid. You have limitations to what you are allowed to do, but you are an Avenger," Tony said.
Skye smiled a little and nodded.
"I still need you to say what happened wasn't your fault," Tony said.
"What happened wasn't my fault," she said.
"Good," Tony said. "You doing homework in here to avoid your room?"
Skye nodded. "It's trashed. I couldn't focus in there if I wanted to."
"We will get it fixed up. Where did you sleep last night?" Tony asked.
"This couch," she said.
Tony nodded. "We will get you set up in another room for now."
Skye nodded. "Thank you."
"I'll let you finish your homework. Please remember no one here blames you for what happened," Tony said before he left the room.
