Thanksgiving day came, and Skye looked over at the air mattress next to her bed at Lila who was still fully asleep.
Skye got up and went into the kitchen. Laura, Nat, and Yelena were in the process of making a waffle bar for breakfast.
"Good Morning, Happy Thanksgiving," Skye said.
"Happy Thanksgiving," they all said to the young girl.
"Can I help?" Skye asked as she took a piece of strawberry that Yelena had just cut from the cutting board and ate it.
"Yes, you can help by not eating what I have already prepared," Yelena said.
Skye giggled. "I'd say I'm sorry, but I'm not."
"Funny," Yelena said.
Laura smirked, and Nat chuckled.
"Lila still asleep?" Laura asked.
"Yes," Skye said.
"How late did you two stay up talking?" Laura asked.
Skye smiled innocently.
Laura raised an eyebrow. "How late?" she asked again.
"Think it was about two when I fell asleep," Skye said.
Laura smiled and shook her head.
"Sorry," Skye said.
"It's okay. I remember what it was like being young and having sleepovers," Laura said.
"I have a couple of memories of the two of us camping out in the living room when we were kids," Nat told Yelena.
"I remember them, too," Yelena said, smiling thinking of that time in her life.
Skye took another piece of strawberry while Yelena was distracted and quickly moved to stand by Nat.
"Hey!" Yelena said as she watched the girl go and hide by Nat. "Nat will not be able to protect you all the time."
Skye giggled.
Laura chuckled.
Nat smirked. "You leave my favorite teenager alone," Nat told Yelena.
Steve came into the room to hear the end of the conversation and his daughter giggling.
"Skye, are you causing trouble?" Steve asked.
"Of course," Skye said, continuing to giggle.
Steve smiled and shook his head. "Stop."
Yelena narrowed her eyes at the teenage girl and shook her head.
"Sorry," Skye said, trying to keep a straight face while she did but couldn't.
Yelena shook her head.
Steve wouldn't admit it out loud, but it made him happy to see her happy and having a good time, even if she was being a pain to Yelena.
"What time is Tucker getting here?" Steve asked.
"Around eleven," Skye said.
Soon everyone had come into the dining area and sat down to eat breakfast. Afterward everyone helped clear up the dishes before they all went to get ready for the day.
Skye and Lila had gone to the mall the day before together to find outfits for the day. Skye had settled on a rust-brown cable-knit dress that had French lantern sleeves. It hit just above her knee in length. She paired it with a pair of flat brown ankle boots. She went over to the dresser in her room, picked up her half of a sun and moon friendship necklace, and put it on.
Lila picked up the other half and put it on with her burnt orange sweater and black skirt that she had picked out the day before. They had picked out the friendship necklaces together. Lila put on her black ballet flats and the two left the bedroom and went and joined everyone else.
"I love the necklaces," Nat said when she saw the girls.
"We picked them out yesterday," Lila said.
"They look like they fit together, friendship necklaces?" Nat asked.
"Yes," Skye said.
"This mall trip less dramatic than the last one?" Nat asked.
"Much," Skye said.
"Did you ever figure out what her issue is?" Lila asked.
"Nope, apparently my dad had already looked into her when we tried to and found nothing that connects her or her family to my dad, so no idea," Skye said.
"I don't think you two need to worry about it," Clint said coming into the room to hear the end of the conversation.
"Do you know?" Nat asked Clint.
"No," Clint said. "I know what Steve knows."
Nat nodded.
Morgan came running into the room and spun around in her brown and orange dress showing it off.
"That's a very pretty dress," Skye said.
Morgan grinned and went over and climbed up into Skye's lap.
Skye smiled and helped the girl into her lap.
Slowly the living room and kitchen filled up. At eleven on the dot, Tucker was brought up to the floor.
Skye smiled and moved Morgan off her lap. She got up and went over to hug Tucker.
"Hey," he said hugging her. "Happy Thanksgiving."
"Happy Thanksgiving," she said to him.
Tucker smiled and said hello and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. They all returned the greeting.
Skye introduced him to everyone he didn't know before they both sat down and Morgan climbed back into her lap.
Peter showed up shortly after with May and Happy and greetings were again exchanged.
"You must be Tucker," Peter said.
"I am, I'm guessing you're Peter," Tucker said.
"I am," Peter said.
They shook hands.
"Is MJ joining us today?" Skye asked.
"She is not. I'm going to go over to her parents' place in a couple of hours," Peter said.
Skye nodded. "MJ is his girlfriend," Skye told Tucker.
"I assumed," Tucker said with a smile.
Skye smiled and nodded.
When Peter sat down Morgan climbed out of Skye's lap and went to sit with him, and the football game was soon put on. Skye got up shortly after and went into the kitchen. "Anything I can do to help?"
Pepper smiled at the girl. "You can set the table."
Skye smiled and started to do so.
"Sounds like Tucker is fitting in with the football fans in there," Laura said.
Skye chuckled. "He is a big football fan."
When Skye was done setting the table, she looked up at Pepper. "Anything else I can do to help?"
"No, you can go back to your friend," Pepper said, smiling at the girl.
Skye nodded and went and sat back down next to Tucker.
Tucker put an arm around her shoulders.
Steve noticed the interaction out of the corner of his eye and took a breath.
"You know they are teenagers who are going to do whatever they want," Bucky told him quietly.
"Not while under this roof they won't," he responded back quietly.
"Right, so they will find other places they can," Bucky said.
Steve let out a breath and quietly responded. "She is too young to get serious with anyone."
Bucky shrugged. "She is young in age only."
Steve shook his head a little, and Bucky decided to not say anything else on the matter at the moment.
Peter left a couple of hours after he got there, saying bye to everyone before heading to MJ's parents' place.
When the meal was ready everyone went into the kitchen and sat around the kitchen.
Tucker leaned over to Skye about halfway through the meal and whispered, "are your dad and the guy he is next to together?"
Skye smirked and whispered back, "that's Bucky. And I can not answer that."
Tucker smirked. "So yes, you've just been told not to say anything."
Skye shrugged still smirking.
Wanda noticed the two smirking. "What is the conversation over there?"
"Nothing," Skye said quickly.
Steve looked at his daughter with a raised eyebrow.
"You don't want me repeating it," Skye said with a chuckle.
"Okay," Steve said eyebrow still raised.
"I do not think it matters if you repeat it," Yelena said.
Skye looked at her.
"You do not whisper as quietly as you think," Yelena said. "And we all know."
Skye chuckled. "What do you think you all know?"
Yelena smirked and shrugged.
"What do we all know?" Steve asked.
Tony smirked.
"What?" Steve asked.
Bucky squeezed Steve's hand under the table.
Steve looked over at Bucky, confused.
Bucky gave him a knowing look.
"Oh," Steve said.
"What am I missing?" Lila asked.
"So not everyone," Skye said chuckling.
"How about we don't talk about it, because it's no one business unless they want to talk about it," Pepper said.
"Tucker, how is the job?" Steve asked, changing the subject.
Tucker smiled. "It's good. I love it."
"Where do you work?" Nat asked.
"Lifeguard at the local pool," Tucker said. "Most weekends and a few evenings a week."
Nat nodded, and the conversation was changed. When the meal was finished, the kitchen was cleared. Skye, Tucker, and Lila went and sat in the living room.
"So you going to tell me?" Lila asked quietly.
Skye looked around to make sure no one was around. "My dad and Bucky are together," Skye said quietly.
"That's a secret?" Lila asked, confused.
Skye started to laugh. "Well, they haven't really told anyone. I figured it out and got told not to say anything. I guess others have figured it out, too."
Lila chuckled.
Shortly after everyone was in the living room watching the final football game.
Tucker's phone kept buzzing and after he just ignored it a few times, Skye looked at him.
Tucker shook his head. "I'm sure you can guess who it is."
Skye nodded. "You okay?"
Tucker nodded. "I don't regret any decisions I've made."
Skye nodded again. "But that doesn't mean it's easy."
Tucker shrugged. "I'm okay."
"Okay," Skye said.
"So, who do you want to win?" Tucker asked.
Skye chuckled and told him what team she was rooting for.
"That's the right choice," he said with a smirk.
Skye chuckled.
"I can't believe I don't know this. Have you always been a football fan?" Tucker said.
Skye nodded. "As long as I can remember, yeah. Watching it. I have no interest in playing."
Tucker smirked.
"What?" Skye asked.
"Just the images of you trying to play football," he said softly.
Skye scowled at him.
"Come on, if it wasn't for your abilities you would get killed," Tucker said with a smile.
"Yeah, well, I do have my abilities," she said with a small pout.
"Okay, I'm sorry," Tucker said, trying not to chuckle at her pouting.
Skye shook her head, still pouting slightly.
The game finished and there was celebrating from about half the group.
When the excitement died down Tucker looked at Skye. "I need to get going, or I'm going to miss curfew."
"How are you getting home?" Skye asked.
"Bus," Tucker said.
Happy, overhearing the conversation, stepped in. "I'm taking May home, I can take you home, too."
Skye looked at Tucker. "You should take him up on it."
Tucker nodded. "Okay. Thanks."
Skye and Tucker hugged.
"Thank you for the invite," Tucker said.
"Of course, I'm glad you came," Skye said.
Tucker said goodbye to everyone before he left with Happy and May.
Skye went and showered, changing into pajamas before going and finding her dad sitting on the couch. She sat next to him.
"So, everyone knows. You two should probably just stop trying to hide it," Skye said.
"You think so, huh?" Steve said, eyebrow raised.
"I just mean that you don't need to hide it since everyone knows," Skye said.
Steve continued to look at her eyebrow raised.
"Sorry," Skye said softly.
"Bucky and I will handle this how we choose to," Steve said.
"Yes, sir," Skye said.
"Skye, I'm not angry with you," Steve said.
Skye nodded. "I just don't understand why you're trying to hide it."
"We aren't hiding it. We are keeping it private," Steve said.
Skye nodded again.
"So, you had a good day?" Steve asked.
Skye smiled. "Yes."
"Good," Steve said.
"You had a good day, too?" Skye asked.
"Yes," Steve said smiling at her.
"Dad, why do I have to wait until I'm sixteen to date?" Skye asked.
Steve took a breath. "Dating is not something I think should be taken lightly. Meaning I want to be sure when you start dating you are prepared for everything that comes with dating."
"You're worried I'm going to have sex too young and get pregnant?" she asked point-blankly.
Steve had to take a minute to comprehend how easily those words came out of her mouth. "I'm more worried about someone taking advantage of you before you are ready for that step."
"Dad, it's Tucker. He's not going to do that," Skye said.
"Okay, yes. I know right now Tucker is who you're interested in dating. And I know you trust him. But I think there is something he isn't telling you," Steve said.
Skye looked at him confused.
"Something Nat found on the background check. She said you didn't want to know what it was," Steve said.
"She told you what it is?" Skye asked annoyed.
"She did because she's worried about you," Steve said.
"Dad, I'll wait because you're asking me to. But now or in fifteen months, it's not going to change whatever this secret is," Skye said.
"No, it won't. But you will have more maturity to deal with it," Steve said.
"Dad, I don't think I'm going to mature much in fifteen months," she said.
"You're right. Maybe I should make it eighteen," he asked with a smile.
"Dad!" Skye said.
"Skye, sixteen, I'm not changing my mind," Steve said.
"Fine," Skye said, knowing she had lost this. "I'm going to go get some sleep."
"Good night, Peanut," he said, kissing her head.
Skye got up and went to her room where Lila was already in bed scrolling social media on her phone.
Skye climbed into her bed and sighed.
"What's wrong?" Lila asked.
"My dad, I tried to convince him to change his mind about me dating before sixteen.
It didn't work," Skye said.
"He gave you a reason?" Lila asked.
"He thinks I'll be better prepared to handle dating things in fifteen months," Skye said.
"Lame," Lila said.
"I know!" Skye said. "I really like Tucker. More and more I want to just date him and not tell my dad."
"Do you think you could get away with it?" Lila asked.
"Probably not," Skye said. "I'd need someone here who would cover for me, and that will never happen."
Lila chuckled. "Not likely"
The two were quiet for a few minutes before Lila spoke again.
"How do you feel about your dad and Bucky?" she asked.
"I'm thrilled. My dad and I had talked about it months ago. They had been getting closer when they were young before the war, but with the war and everything they went through, it never ended up happening. They obviously got close again more recently. And I knew they both had feelings because I could feel it. Which is beyond weird when it involves your dad," Skye said.
"Oh, yeah that would be," Lila said scrunching up her face. "Have you gotten better control of it?"
"Somewhat," Skye said as she created a small fireball in her hand, putting it out quickly. "But if I'm overwhelmed or really emotional, I can't stop it."
"Well, that's much better than it was right?" Lila asked.
"I guess in some respects, yes," Skye said. "I'm just so scared that I'm going to end up hurting someone. I almost hurt Morgan the first time I lost control of it."
"Yeah, I heard my parents talking about that. I remember my dad said Bucky didn't think you actually would have been able to bring yourself to hurt her," Lila said.
"Love that I'm the topic of conversations everywhere," Skye said sarcastically.
"Sorry," Lila said.
"It's not your fault. I know Bucky thinks that, but I don't," Skye said. "No, I didn't want to hurt her, but I wasn't in control. If she had stepped into my room, she would have been caught up in the whirlwind."
Lila nodded.
"My life has gotten so much better since finding out about my abilities, but sometimes I wish I didn't have them," Skye said.
"Yeah, I can't understand because my life has been so different than yours. But I get that it has to be hard," Lila said.
Skye nodded. "Maybe meeting more young people with abilities in a few weeks will help me."
"Oh?" Lila asked.
"There is a conference young people with abilities are invited to attend. I think it's the start of this world preparing the next generation," Skye said. "I am excited. I'm never invited to these things."
"That is exciting! Do you know any young supers already?" Lila asked.
"Well, Peter," Skye said.
"Of course," Lila said.
"And Antman's daughter. I met her once," Skye said. "She's pretty cool. But they are both nearing the higher end of young supers and have been training for longer. I want to meet someone who is just coming into their abilities, too. Someone who is going through it at the same time as me."
"Makes sense," Lila said.
"Have you ever met any young supers, outside me and Peter?" Skye asked.
"Kate Bishop. She is like my dad, I think. Not super, but really good at shooting bows and arrows. I don't know all the details, but my dad met her when he was here one year around Christmas. He ended up bringing her home for Christmas, but I wasn't told much. But I never really am," Lila said.
"You think he is preparing her to take over for him or something?" Skye asked.
"Maybe," Lila said.
"You don't want to follow in his footsteps?" Skye asked.
"No," Lila said. "I'm happy not having to worry about protecting the world."
Skye let out a huffed breath. "Yeah."
She looked at her phone when it went off and smiled.
"Tucker?" Lila asked.
"Yes," Skye said with a chuckle. "He got home safe. I didn't doubt he would.
Lila smiled. "That's sweet though. He checked in."
"Yes, it is," Skye said as she plugged her phone in.
Lila plugged hers in as well, and Skye turned off the lamp in the room. They were both really tired so they went to sleep.
