(Abigail's POV)
*Omega, Rouge, & I were still battling the mind-controlled Shadow, who was now standing on top of Omega, with a Chaos Spear, ready to pierce him in the chest*
Omega: SHADOW! DESIST IMMEDIATELY OR I WILL BE FORCED TO DESTROY YOU!
*Rouge did her signature Screw Kick to knock Shadow off if him. I was next to her when she landed*
Abigail: "Destroy him!?"
Omega: I WOULD ENJOY PROVING WHICH OF US IS STRONGER. MAIMING WOULD BE INVOLVED. HE WOULD HEAL. EVENTUALLY.
Rouge: We're trying to win him back to our side!
Omega: QUERY; WOULDN'T IT BE BETTER TO BE HONEST, THEN?
*I looked at Shadow & he looked like he was in pain*
Shadow: Win . . . Back . . .
*Suddenly, he charged towards us*
Rouge: Here he comes!
*He got into a spin dash & hit Rouge. Luckily, Omega caught her. He then teleported away when Omega fired at him*
Omega: TELEPORTING!
Abigail: Got him!
*I did a high kick to the left, hitting Shadow in the chest. Omega then got in top of him to hold him down*
Omega: WARNING! WE NEED TO FINISH THIS BEFORE WE HAVE TO -
Rouge: I know! I know! I'm thinking . . .
(Rouge's POV)
*I thought back to the discussion we had with the Commander before the mission*
(Flashback - 5 hours ago)
Commander Tower: Rouge? Omega? A word please.
Rouge: We've got a mission to prepare for, Abe. Do we really need extra homework now.
Commander Tower: Shadow is a liability.
Rouge: Shadow is a hero.
Omega: REMINDER: RANKS ARE NOT BULLET-PROOF.
Commander Tower: Bluster all you want. The fact is Shadow is part alien. We're utilizing that for this mission . . . But we cannot turn a blind eye to it being a possible edge for the Black Arms as well.
Rouge: Then we'll keep an eye on him!
Commander Tower: Yes. And if he goes Rouge, you're going to neutralize him.
Rouge: What!? I . . . How are you!? We're . . .
Commander Tower: The two of you are one of the few who know him the best and the two who can do the job if it comes to that. The planet's crust is a jigsaw puzzle. The Flying Fleet is spread too thin and G.U.N can barley keep the world functioning. The last thing we need is Gerald's Chaos-Fused monster leading an alien invasion. *he started to walk away* Listen, I've . . . Made my peace with Shadow, I bear him no ill will. I don't like sending soldiers to their deaths. But when it comes down to one life versus millions, there's no choice.
Rouge: And what about Abby?
*That made the Commander stop in his tracks*
Commander Tower: If she tries to interfere, then make sure she's out of the way. *that left both me & Omega surprised* I'll be honest with you, I was hoping it wouldn't be her coming on this mission. I don't want to be responsible for hurting the only person, other than Maria, who can make Shadow happy. I trust you two to do what needs to be done.
(Present Time)
Rouge:*in her mind* . . . What needs to be done . . ?
(Abigail's POV)
*Rouge stepped up to Omega*
Rouge: Get off of him.
Omega: ARE YOU SURE? I HAVE NOT SUCCESSFULLY BEATEN SENSE NOR A CONCUSSION INTO HIM YET.
Rouge: Just move already. *Omega got off of Shadow & she stood over him* I know the real Shadow can hear me, so listen up. You're the Ultimate Lifeform. You're too strong an too stubborn to let those aliens get into your head. I figure you've got some kind of inner struggle. Not that you'll tell us - you prefer to brood and internalize. But this is for the sake of everyone back home. So are you going to get your act together, or are Abby and I going to get sappy and invoke Maria for the hundredth time?
*I looked at Shadow hopefully as he lay on the floor & held his head in pain*
Abigail:*in her mind* Come on, Shadow! Fight it!
*Suddenly, he back-flipped away from us & threw a Chaos Spear at us, but we dodged*
Rouge: Well, looks like we're gonna have to do this the hard way.
Omega: AFFIRMATIVE.
*He activated his laser cannons & aimed at Shadow. My eyes went wide with horror &, without thinking, I stepped in-between them*
Abigail: WAIT!
Rouge: Move, Abby!
Abigail: No! Let me try to reach him! Please!?
I could feel tears in my eyes as I looked at Rouge. She sighed*
Rouge: Stand down, Omega.
Omega: BUT . . .
*She gave him a glare & he lowered his cannons*
Rouge: Alright. He's all yours. But if this doesn't work, we use force, got it?
*I nodded & turned to Shadow*
Abigail: Alright, Shadow! Come and get me! *he created a Chaos Spear & zoomed towards me. Rouge looked nervous as he got closer to me, but I stood my ground. once he was close enough, I grabbed his face, pulled him close to my own & kissed him on the lips. I could feel Rouge's shocked eyes on me, but I didn't care. I released him & he held his head in pain again* Shadow?
Shadow: Omega . . . Alien . . . 10 o'clock high . . . Controlling . . .
Omega: UNDERSTOOD!
*He fired at a gray starfish with one eye, 6 legs, & red stripes, that floated away as it dodged. Meanwhile, Shadow was in pain. I helped him to his feet*
Abigail: Shadow! Are you okay?
Shadow: Yes. *he gave me a smile* Thanks to you, My Angel.
*Rouge came over*
Rouge: Did that clear your head?
Shadow: . . . They're gone now. I'm back in control. Control I never should have lost. I nearly . . .
Abigail: But you didn't . . .
Shadow: How did you both know I wouldn't?
Rouge: Because . . . We trust you. Yeah. That's comic from me. We're been through a lot together. And I let my guard down around you. You've got my back.
Abigail: Mine especially.
Rouge: That, and I knew that crack about Maria would tick you off.
Shadow: Hmph. Careful. We're in danger of becoming all buddy-buddy like Sonic's Freedom Fighters.
Abigail: Nothing wrong with that.
Omega: DISCUSSION OF TEAM STATUS IS IRRELEVANT - THE TARGET ESCAPED. THIS NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED WITH FIRE.
Rouge: Oh, not just yet. You have to admit to the comradery, too.
Omega: FINE. I FIND SHADOW INSPIRATIONAL, AND YOU THREE ARE THE ONLY MEAT-BAGS I TOLERATE . . . TRUST.
*I giggled at that*
Shadow: Hmph. Thank you, Omega. Rouge. It's good to have partners like you. *he turned to me* And to know that you'll always be there when I need you, my Sun, my Moon, and my Stars.
Abigail: I know you would do the same for me, my Dark Knight.
*We kissed*
Omega: I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF KISSING.
Rouge: Just roll with it.
*We let go*
Omega: MAY WE RESUME THE VIOLENT CONQUEST NOW.
Shadow: Yes. The three of you will check on Spider Troupe and then ensure the bomb is deployed. I will . . .
Rouge: Oh, no you don't. We just broke the mind-control. You're not going to run off on your own and get caught again.
Abigail: Yeah. I'm with Rouge. I don't wanna have to fight you again.
*Shadow started to glow green with rage*
Shadow: . . . I will eliminate Black Death, their leader. That will draw the Black Arms away from you. Nothing will stop me from my revenge.
*Rouge & I shielded our eyes*
Rouge: Yikes! Okay, I'm convinced!
Abigail: Me too.
Omega: AS I SAID - INSPIRATIONAL. CONCERN: THE TRACKING SIGNAL FOR SPIDER TROUPE IS WEAK, AND THE ALIEN ARCHITECTURE IS MAZE-LIKE. LOCATING THEM WILL BE DIFFICULT.
Shadow: No. Since Black Death got into my head, I've got a much stronger connection to the Hive-Mind. I can direct you. *Rouge scooped me up* Team Dark, move out!
*Rouge, Omega, & I went down the path to the left & Shadow went down the path to the right. Our path was stopped by tentacles coming up out of the ground. Rouge & I contacted Shadow as we dodged them*
Rouge: Looks like we're going deeper down. What should we be looking for?
Shadow:*off-screen* You'll exit into the larger chamber. Look for tunnels heading upwards. They should be at about three o'clock from your position.
Abigail: Got it. We haven't run into any Black Arms so far. What about you?
Shadow:*off-screen* I'm encountering some. Nothing I can't handle.
*We went down the tunnel & soon found ourselves in a room full of glowing red rocks that were shaped like eggs. Spider Troupe was trapped in the floor, covered by some kind of clay*
Rouge: Found them! I think they're still alive!
Omega: I AM OBLIGATED TO BE PLEASED BY THIS.
*We went to free them from the clay*
Abigail: Captain! Can you hear me?
Andrews: Yessss . . . C - Can almost m - move again . . . Too weak to break out.
Abigail: Can you walk?
Andrews: Yessss, I think so.
Omega: WHERE IS THE GLORIOUS NUCLEAR DEVICE?
Agent Cooper: H - He took it . . .
Rouge: Who took it?
Andrews: Th - Their leader . . . The Sh - Shadow like one.
*Rouge & I contacted Shadow*
Abigail: Shadow, it's me. Spider Troupe says the nuke was taken by the alien that kind of looks like you. Who is he? What is he?
Shadow:*off-screen* Eclipse. I'll explain later. He is extremely dangerous. Take him out as fast as possible.
Omega: I WILL DESTROY WHATEVER THE CHALLENGER IS IDENTIFIED AS!
Rouge: If Shadow says he's "extremely dangerous" you're going to need back-up. Abby and I are coming with you.
Omega: IF YOU INSIST.
Rouge: We can't spare anyone to escort you back, but with Shadow heading for their leader, and Omega, Abby, and I heading for the nuke, I doubt they'll prioritize recapturing you. Good luck, Captain.
Andrews: Thank you . . . For coming . . . For us . . .
Abigail: Of course. After all, no man left behind.
*Just then, we heard Shadow's voice on our communicators*
Shadow:*off-screen* Captain - there seems to be a direct route back to the shuttle. They may have been planning an ambush earlier, but the way is clear now. Take the right fork ahead, then follow the left-hand wall. Omega! Rouge! Abby! Eclipse is seven o'clock from your position - a straight shot. He has a Black Oak with him. It has the nuke. Hurry!
Rouge: We're on our way!
*Hearing him say that, I knew he must be getting close to the Leader, Black Death. I sent a silent prayer to him*
Abigail:*in her mind* Please . . . Be careful. And kick that creep to the moon and back!
*Rouge then picked me up & we flew out of the room & towards where Eclipse was, dodging more of those tentacles. She tried to get in touch with Shadow*
Rouge: Shadow? Do you copy? . . . He's not sending us directions anymore.
Omega: THEN HE MUST HAVE ENGAGED THE BLACK ARMS' LEADER IN BATTLE. SOME BEINGS HAVE ALL THE LUCK.
Abigail: I don't know if I'd call that luck. *just then, I saw the nuke in the middle of an empty room* Look! There's the nuke!
Rouge: Completely abandoned and out in the open. Omega, it's a set up for an ambush.
Omega: GOOD. LET THEM COME. *he started going towards the nuke. suddenly, a Black Oak appeared with Eclipse on it's left shoulder* EXCELLENT! COMBAT ENGAGED!
Eclipse: Tear the robot to pieces! I'll handle the - ! *Omega fired his laser cannons at them, killing the alien instantly* . . . It wasn't supposed to be like this . . . *just then, he saw me. his eyes seemed to go wide with recognition. then his face twisted into rage* YOU!
*He zoomed towards me, grabbed me by the throat & slammed me into the wall (look up "Eclipse - Attacking Abigail" by "SwanGirl24" on "DeviantArt")
Rouge: ABBY!
Eclipse: THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!
Abigail: Wh - What are you . . . Talking about?
Eclipse: It's because of you that everything is falling apart! It's because you've been filling Shadow's head with all that sentimental nonsense!
Abigail: Sh - Shadow made those decisions . . . On his own. I - I had nothing . . . To do with it . . .
Eclipse: SHUT UP! I'LL KILL YOU!
*Suddenly, Omega grabbed Eclipse & pushed him off of me. I dropped to the floor & gasped for air. Rouge came up to me*
Rouge: Are you okay?
Abigail:*koff* Yeah. I'm okay.
*Omega & Eclipse were pushing against each other, Omega being the strongest*
Omega: UNDOCUMENTED ALIEN TYPE. YOU MUST BE ECLIPSE. AMUSED: SHADOW SAID YOU'D BE A THREAT.
Eclipse: RRRGH . . . Shadow! He's . . . Supposed to . . . Join us . . . The Black Arms . . . Were supposed to thrive! We would . . . Win! Wed have . . . Our . . . Revenge!
Omega: NOT WITH YOU TO LEAD THEM. YOU ARE WEAK. THROW A CHAOS SPEAR. PERFORM A CHAOS BLAST. DO SOMETHING. SURPRISE ME.
Rouge: Stop toying with it, you sadist. Let's set the bomb and get out of here so we can wipe out all the awful things on this rock and be done with it!
Eclipse: NO! *suddenly, he started glowing really bright green. then he pushed Omega back. Rouge's eyes & mine went wide when we saw that he had grown huge in size & muscles* Well, robot? Surprised!? Satisfied!? I was born to crush Shadow! You are nothing to me!
Omega: WARNING - TARGET EXHIBITS IMPRESSIVE METAMORPHIC ABILITIES. SENSORS DETECT EXPONENTIAL GROWTH IN STRENGTH AND RESILIENCE.
*I looked at Eclipse & thought for a moment*
Abigail: Hmm . . . Transforming like that might burn out his metabolism. Omega, keeping putting pressure on him to see if he cracks.
Rouge: Good idea. Meanwhile, I'm arming the nuke before things get even more out of control.
Omega: UNDERSTOOD. ENGAGING IN BATTLE FOR SCIENCE!
*He charged at Eclipse & they fought*
Rouge: Agent Rouge to shuttle Ratatosk. I need the activation code to arm the nuclear device - over.
G.U.N Agent:*off-screen* Copy that, Agent Rouge. Activation code is Sierra-Uniform-Zero-6-2 - over.
Rouge: Copy that. You're to leave in 10 minutes . . . With or without us. Over.
Abigail:*in her mind* I really hope it's the latter.
*Meanwhile, Eclipse was keeping up with Omega's fighting*
Eclipse: YOUR WORLD! IT'S RESOURCES - IT'S PEOPLE - ALL FOR US! WE'VE CONSUMED COUNTLESS WORLDS! *Rouge activated the nuke & it anchored itself into the ground* YOU'RE NOT SPECIAL! YOU'RE NOT SUPERIOR! *Omega fired his laser cannons* I WILL PERSONALLY CONSUME EVERYONE YOU LOVE AND BURN YOUR PLANET TO A CINDER! *suddenly, he started to look very weak* I'll . . . We'll . . . Urgh . . . *his outer shell molted off & he was back to normal* Huk . . . No . . . Need to . . . Stay strong . . .
Rouge: Good call, Abby. I guess he can't maintain that form for long, especially under heavy combat.
Omega: I CAN STILL *SHRK* TAKE HIM . . .
Abigail: There's no time, Omega!
Rouge: She's right. We've got to move. The bomb will take care of everything here, anyway. *she & I contacted Shadow* Shadow! The bomb so armed! We've got nine minutes to get to the shuttle?
Shadow:*off-screen* I'm done here, Rouge!
Abigail: Good! Now get out of there! Hurry!
Shadow:*off-screen* Could still be disrupted by the Black Arms throughout the comet! When Black Death goes down, so will the Hive-Mind! I'm buying time for you guys and Omega.
Abigail: No! We're not leaving you behind!
Shadow:*off-screen* No. You went out of your way to save me. Now I am returning the favor.
Rouge: What is it with you and your martyr complex!?
Shadow:*off-screen* Every second spent arguing is delaying me. I'll make it.
Abigail: But . . .
Shadow:*off-screen* Abby. I'll be fine. I promise.
*Rouge & I both looked at each other & sighed. There was no talking him out of this*
Rouge: . . . You and your promises. Eight minutes, you Ultimate Pain-in-the-Butt.
Shadow:*off-screen* Understood.
*We both hung up*
Rouge: Alright. Let's get out of here!
Abigail & Omega: Right!/RIGHT!
*We ran back to the shuttle, fighting any aliens that got in our way. Once we got on the shuttle, Rouge contacted Shadow again*
Rouge: Shadow! The Black Arms all suddenly collapsed. Are you . . .
Shadow:*off-screen* It's done, Rouge. The Black Arms are no more.
Rouge: And so are we if you don't hustle! You've got five minutes!
Shadow:*off-screen* Begin take-off now. I'm on my way.
*The shuttle took off from the comet. Rouge, Omega, & I went to the window to watch*
Omega: *ZRK* YOU'VE SNOOPED IN OUR *KSH* FILES. WHAT IS SHADOW'S MAXIMUM TELEPORT RANGE?
Abigail: Did he have a Chaos Emerald with him? 'Cause of he did -
Rouge: I don't know. It wouldn't matter, but . . . No. Y'know what? He's an arrogant so-and-so, but that's because he can back it up. If Shadow says he can make it, he's going to make -
*Suddenly, the comet exploded. We shielded our eyes from the bright light. When the light died down, we looked behind us, but didn't see anyone there*
Omega: MY EMP SHIELDING MUST BE FAULTY *KZK* AND MY OPTIC'S OFFLINE. *ZRT* I DO NOT SEE SHADOW.
Rouge: He . . . He didn't . . .
*I covered my mouth with my hands & tears filled my eyes*
Abigail:*in her mind* No! He can't be gone! He just -
*Suddenly, Shadow appeared in a flash of green light. He let out a big gasp of air & then Rouge flew towards him, looking relieved*
Rouge: Shadow! *her face turned angry & she grabbed him by the throat* You jerk! You had us scared to death! *I just stood there, frozen, with tears in my eyes as she tried to throttle my boyfriend* What's with the dramatic timing!?
*Omega pulled her off of him*
Shadow:*koff* I couldn't teleport far enough, so I used the decompression from the shuttle's entry point to fling me into range.
Rouge: That was your plan!? Dive face-first into the vacuum of space!? Unprotected!?
Shadow: And it worked. I am the Ultimate Lifeform.
*As soon as he said that, not able to hold back anymore, I ran up to Shadow & wrapped my arms around him*
Abigail: SHADOW! *I cried into his chest* I was so worried . . . Are you really okay . . . You're not hurt . . .?
Shadow: Abby . . . Yes. I'm fine.
*I looked up at him*
Abigail: Are you sure?
*He wrapped his arms around me*
Shadow: Yes. I'm sorry I scared you.
*Rouge watched us with wide eyes for a little bit, then smiled, & wiggled out of Omega's grip*
Rouge: Well, at least it's over now.
Shadow: No. He's still out there.
Abigail:*in her mind* Eclipse . . .
(Julie-Su's POV)
*Knuckles & I were standing on a cliff in the Sky Rail Zone on Angel Island*
Julie-Su:*in her mind* I know Knuckles said that he sensed something in this direction, but I still find what's going on a bit sketchy. He'll also want to get back to the Master Emerald soon. Even though we've got her watching it, still - *suddenly, we both saw something flying through the sky & heading towards the ground* What's that? A meteor? I just hope it doesn't land on the island. Knuckles won't like that one bit.
