(Julie-Su's POV)

*We all prepared to battle the Hooligans*

Vector: Great. These bozos again.

Knuckles: The Chaos Emerald was on the move. And now they're here . . .

Charmy: They must've taken it!

Julie-Su: Wouldn't surprise me.

Nack: Howdy, boys, ladies! Nice night for some larceny, don't you think? You six cooperate, and we might just let you leave this place alive!

Knuckles: Oh, yeah? Chaotix! Let's get 'em!

*We all jumped into to attack. Vector & Espio fought Bark, Knuckles & I went for Nack, & Charmy & Saffron went for Bean*

Bean: Good evening!

*Nack fired his proton gun at us, but we dodged & I fired back*

Nack: Nobody messes with my ride!

Knuckles: You'd prefer a punch to the face?

Julie-Su: Either way's fine with me!

Nack: Ye - No - Hold still!

Vector: Should've known you no-good mercs were behind this! Hand over the Emerald before I - !

*Bark just grabbed him by the snout & flipped him over*

Bean: Hold on! Hold on! My world balloons are still messed up!

*Nack fired at us again, but we dodged again*

Nack: Hey now, I'm a reasonable cut-throat! I gave you mugs a chance to hand over the Emerald quickly! Now you made this a thing!

*Espio swung a kick at Bark, but he blocked it*

Espio: A foolish ploy. We know you have the Emerald.

*Bean held back both Charmy & Saffron as they tried to attack him*

Bean: Testing, testing, one-two-three . . . There we go! Now, if they don't have the shiny, and we ambushed them to get said shiny, doesn't it stand to reason that nobody has the shiny?

*We all stopped in our tracks. Then we took a moment to think a realized he was right*

Nack: Oh, for the love of - Truce! Truce! This makes no sense! My Emerald Tracker clearly shows it's in the area!

Knuckles: I sensed it was out this way, too.

Nack: Ah, you that sixth sense too, huh? Wait! There, see? It's still on the move!

Julie-Su: Huh. Last time we were out here, Knuckles and I found an abandoned mining network below the hills.

Nack: I guess the altimeter on this thing is wonky. But at the least now we know where to - *all three of us then realized something. suddenly, Nack kicked Knuckles in the stomach* Bean! Give us some cover!

Bean: You got it, Boss! Ninja vanish!

*Bark punched Espio & Charmy away while Bean threw some bombs. They exploded, creating a smoke screen. The Hooligans went down into the canyon*

Nack: Later, suckers!

Espio: That is not how ninja vanish!

Vector: That's just great! The Hooligans got the drop on us, and now they've got a head start!

Knuckles: Yeah. But they don't have me. Like 'Su said, we've been through this area before, when we were looking for the shards of the Master Emerald.

Julie-Su: It's like a maze. So while those three stooges are flying around without a clue, my man can show you the best way in.

Knuckles: Thanks, babe.

Vector: And you can sense the Emerald. We're not sunk! We've still got an advantage!

*He & Knuckles high-fived*

Charmy: Woo! We can still pretend to be number one!

Saffron: We're always number one.

Espio: Then let's hurry! They still have the speed advantage.

Charmy: Then we'll channel our inner-Sonic! Vroom! Whoosh!

Knuckles: Pssht! Never! *I rolled my eyes* Follow me! We're going towards Church Mountain, and then it's straight down.

*He started to glide down. I was on my board, Saffron flew, & Charmy carried Vector & Espio with the Sling Rings*

Vector: And he means controlled descent! Don't go dropping us again!

Charmy: Well, don't freak me out by about spooky stuff!

Julie-Su:*in her mind* Helping the Chaotix doesn't hurt, and finding the Emerald is important, it's getting us off-track from our own mission. We've got to find the spirit that can fix the world. With every second we spend on the Emerald, is one less on finding the spirit. And one less spent for Knuckles protecting the Master Emerald and Angel Island. I just hope everything's okay back home and nothing is bothering Relic.

*We made our way down to the mine, which was just as rundown as the last time Knuckles & I were here*

Charmy:*hugging Saffron* Th - This place is even creepier than the hills . . .

Saffron: Y - Yeah.

Vector: Whattaya talkin' about? It's dark, it's dank, reminds me of home!

Espio: Or the office when you haven't paid the power bill . . . *Knuckles held put his hand to get a fix on the Emerald* Can you still sense the Emerald?

Knuckles: Yeah. It's much stronger down here. And it's still moving.

Charmy: How do you do that anyway? Sense the Emeralds and stuff.

Knuckles: I don't know. It's just a sixth sense I've always known. They say all treasure hunters can "feel" what they're looking for this way.

Charmy: Since when did hunt for treasure? You're always watching the Master Emerald?

Knuckles: "Always"? I can have hobbies too, y'know.

*I turned to Vector & Espio*

Julie-Su: Saffron I can understand, but why do you keep him around again?

Espio: Would you leave him to fend for himself?

Vector: I wrote him off as a "charitable cause" every tax season.

Charmy: Oooh! *he went up to a floating ord with a star on if* What does this thing do?

*Knuckles quickly pulled him away*

Knuckles: Don't - ! Touch that!

Charmy: Why?

Julie-Su: They change the water levels and somehow still work. There's a bunch of those switches throughout the mines.

Charmy: Oh, why?

Knuckles: I don't know. I guess the miners needed a way to keep all the water in check. And draining this place wasn't an option.

Charmy: Oh. Whyyyy?

Julie-Su: I don't know! Maybe - *he gave a big smile. Saffron giggled* Very funny.

Knuckles: Now let's play " Find the Emerald before the other guys do."

*We went through an opening to find - *

Vector: Oh, wow . . . *we were at the edge of a cliff hanging over lava* We're really on the edge, aren't we?

Espio: Our poor world . . . Broken to pieces . . .

*They grabbed the Sling Rings again as we flew over the lava*

Vector: C'mon, guys. This about more than a paycheck. We've got to save the planet.

Knuckles: Come to think of it . . . Where were you guys when the world broke apart?

Charmy: It was scary!

Saffron: I'm still feeling shook up.

Espio: We were far from any fault line, but everything shook. No one was untouched. It makes me wonder how the Hooligans can live with themselves.

Julie-Su: Simple. All three of them only have one brain cell.

*We all got a laugh out of them*

*Later, we were climbing up a walk, passing a sign with a ghost on it*

Vector: See that? Whoever dug out this place saw ghosts, too. Think their ghosts haunt this place now?

Charmy & Saffron: EEP!

Espio: Cut it out, Vector. We don't need them jumping at shadows down here, too.

Knuckles: No, you might as well keep an eye out. Su & I ran into ghosts last we were down here.

*The guys & Saffron started to look nervous*

Julie-Su: Oh, for the love of . . .

Vector: Look! You may be used to ghosts, but the mysteries we deal with usually involve lost wallets and paranoid spouses!

Julie-Su: Look, it's simple. Ghosts are either vapor or solid. If they're vapor, they can't touch you, so who cares?

Knuckles: If they want to hurt you, they're got to become tangible. And if that happens, you can hit them. So hot them! *he punched the wall, cracking it* See! Simple.

*They clapped*

Vector: They're thorough. But they still make information accessable.

Espio: I'm surprised that wasn't covered in my ninja training.

Charmy: They're an inspiration!

Saffron: And very smart!

Knuckles: Yeah, well, when you're seasoned pros like us, all this becomes second nature.

Julie-Su: Besides, I'm sure we cleared this place out. There probably isn't anything supernatural left down here.

Charmy: What about those monsters we fought in on the surface?

Knuckles: Oh, yeah . . . Well, hopefully they stay there.

Vector: Hey! What's down this way?

*He pointed to a tunnel full of water*

Julie-Su: It's one of the many flooded tunnels. I think it leads back towards the surface, but neither of us can hold our breath that long. Let's keep moving.

Espio: We've been descending for a very long time. Perhaps we've gone the wrong way?

Knuckles: We'd be moving faster we didn't have to stop just to play tour guide. Just. Keep. Moving!

Vector: Well, we can't sense the Emerald. All we know is what you tell us and what we see. And all I'm seeing is more wet rocks!

Knuckles: We're getting closer. I can feel it. But it keeps moving!

Vector: You think it's caught in some kind of current? It's being washed around in the mines?

Espio: No. Too much of the water is stagnant. Perhaps it's a third party?

Vector: Yeah, but who would take it deeper into this place? Why not make a run for it?

Espio: . . . Perhaps they are lost as well?

Charmy: Guys! Guys! What if the Hooligans found it for real this time? What if we've been chasing them this whole time and didn't know it?

Vector: We gotta hurry!

Saffron: B - But Knuckles is the one sensing it!

*Suddenly, Vector grabbed Knuckles & held his nose to the ground like a metal detector*

Vector: Hurry hurry hurry! Find it! Find it! Find it!

Julie-Su:*in her mind* Bad move, Lizard Lips.

*Knuckles jumped out of his grip, having finally lost his temper*

Knuckles: ENOUGH! Su & I had our own mission before we got roped into this! We don't need to fight your rivals for you, or babysit you through ghost stories! We're not doing your job for you anymore!

Vector: Whoa! Sorry, I just -

Knuckles: NO! MORE!

Vector: Fine. Just point us in the right direction. And we'll take it from here.

Knuckles: Grrr . . . The Emerald is . . . Heading right for us. Just around this corner . . .

*We all peeked around the corner & saw a small, burgundy & white imp-like creature resembling somewhat of a chihuahua, with bronze eyes, green fairy-like wings on his back & wearing a green bauble necklace holding the red Chaos Emerald*
