Syo sighed an uncharacteristically long sigh. Her callused hand gently resting atop her swollen belly.
The young woman never thought she was even capable of being gentle, yet here she was.
Another sigh escapes her lips, this one a lot louder than the previous.
"Okay, that's the third long sigh in a roll." The woman's eyes drift across the room and land on her husband. "What's wrong?" Makoto asks walking towards her.
Turning her face away from the brunette, Syo looks outside the window to their house just as the wind blows past her. "Nothin'." She replies, feeling two arms wrap around her shoulders and a chin rest atop her head.
"You sure?" Makoto closes his eyes and feels their breaths syncing in. "Normally the one that sits by the window and sighs a lot is Touko."
"So what?" Syo's hand starts caressing her grown stomach. "Can't a gal take a breath and think about her life?" The young woman feels her husband's arms leaving her shoulders, she curses herself for almost immediately feeling cold without them.
Kneeling in front of his wife, the young man smiles softly, like he always did. "For someone that managed to hide her identity for so long, you sure are bad at lying." He says and Syo scoffs.
"Hanging out with you has that effect on people." The ex-serial killer retorts with a small smile of her own.
Silence falls between the two young adults.
Makoto watches carefully as his wife's gears turn in her head, she was trying to find the right words and he could feel the anxiousness in her face.
"Is- Are we- Should-" She struggles to find the right words. "You know what? Fuck it!" Using big words and being cryptic with her feelings was Mrs. Gloomy schtick, not hers. "Do you think I'm going to be a bad mother?" Being direct was way more like her.
Without skipping a heartbeat, Makoto replies. "Yeah, I think you will."
Syo lifts a eyebrow. "You sure?" She blinks, before tightening her fist. "I'm screwed, bonkers, criminally insane, fucking crazy or whatever the hell people wanna call me-" Turning once again to face the window, the young woman whimpers quietly. "I-I'm scared." She finally admits. "I don't want to fuck this up." Another whimper comes out of her mouth as the woman tries to hold back her tears.
It was strange seeing Syo being so vulnerable, she was always so decisive, direct, confident.
Syo herself hated this, she hated being vulnerable. It made her remember the days where she would just be sitting alone at her bed in the dark, listening to her parents arguing.
Her line of thought is broken once Makoto's arms wrap around her once again. "There is no way to say for sure." The brunette holds his wife as she starts crying on his shoulder. "But I think you'll be a fine mother." Holding her tightly, Makoto smiles.
There was no more words needed, Makoto knew that his wife had a lot of worries in her heart and he also knew that she was the only one that could fully overcome them, so, he did the second best thing.
Landed a shoulder.
For several more minutes, Syo cried on his shoulder, all of the pent up worries that she had in her heart finally being let out.
After not too long, she let's go of Makoto and smiles, still with her eyes completely red. "Thanks Mako." Breathing in and out, she continues. "I needed that." Her tongue slips out of her mouth and the woman giggles. "But if you tell anyone that you saw me cry, I'll fucking murder you!" She says jokingly.
"Glad I could be of help." Makoto smiles back. "Want something specific for dinner?" He gets up and dusts his pants.
Syo smiles softly, she just couldn't believe just how lucky she was for having married this man.
"Anything you do is fine." Her smile at that moment was the most beautiful one that Makoto ever saw.
Yeah, he truly did lucked out on marrying this woman.
