Hi everyone! Wow, it's been a minute - and by that I mean three years lol. I've been active in the fandom all this time, I just haven't had much time/motivation to write after starting college. The Despicable Me 4 trailer definitely gave me some motivation, though!

READ THIS FIRST: This is a VERY short oneshot based on my idea of what's happening in the very brief scene in the "Fire & Flames" DM4 spot where we see Margo covered in glitter (bc my toxic trait is thinking I can do it better than Illumination). I hope you enjoy!

"Why can't we just be a normal family?!" Margo bursted out, flinging her hands out in front of her in exasperation. Glitter streams cascaded to the floor of the car.

Gru blinked and stared at his eldest daughter in surprise. Usually he could count on Margo to be a calm, stable presence in the midst of difficulty. He recalled many a time where Margo had cradled her sisters in her arms, whispering to them that everything would be all right. She deserved that same level of comfort from him, but he felt himself coming up short. He hadn't seen her have an outburst like this in a while.

Gru continued to study his glitter-covered daughter with concern. Tears welled in her eyes behind her glasses, and she stared pointedly at the floorboards.

Her eyes managed to look empty at the same time.

Gru's own eyes followed where her gaze was locked until they settled on an object lying on the floor of the car.

Junior's pacifier.

Gru cleared his throat and looked back at his daughter with sad eyes. "Margo, is ...this about something more than the safe house?"

Defeated, Margo let the tears roll down her cheeks. She removed her glasses and wiped her eyes.

"Oh, honey." Gru wrapped an arm around the crying girl, cursing the fact that he wasn't wearing his normal, comforting attire.

And once he saw his distressed daughter—his little girl who he'd die for in a heartbeat—doubt his love for her, when he vowed she'd never doubt his love like he doubted his mother's, the words flowed out of him.

"Margo, if we were normal, you and I wouldn't be family."

He gazed pointedly at his child, and her eyebrows raised.

"I know it's tough on you. I'm not going to pretend it isn't. I'm so sorry you have to go on the run like this. I'm sorry you didn't ... get the parents you expected." Gru broke his gaze for a moment before meeting his daughter's eyes again. "But Margo ... there's a lot of good that can come out of not being normal. That's kind of how I found you, isn't it?"

Margo smiled through her tears. "Yeah, I guess so." Then she let out a small, giddy laugh at the memory of her father holding the moon in the palm of his hand. "You're really not normal, Gru."

He smiled in return. "That's for sure. And you know what, Margo?"

"Yeah?"

"I love Junior, you know dat. But I gave up the moon for you."

Margo looked back at Gru with wide eyes, realization dawning on her face. "I love you, Gru."

"I love you too, Margo.

To the moon and back."

Wow that was incredibly short, but I hope you liked it! After seeing the DM4 trailer I was desperate to write a little fluff :)
