Note: This is something that popped into my head as I was watching the series in order, and I found myself wondering what it would be like if Astrid and Snotlout switched dragons. Well, more like Hiccup had Snotlout bond with the Deadly Nadder and Astrid with the Monstrous Nightmare (Not exactly getting to chose the dragon you want. anyway: Stormfly will have a loyal relationship with Snotlout while Astrid will have an antagonist relationship with Hookfang. So essentially what you see in the movie and tv series.)
Current plan: Riders & Defenders of Berk will be having Astrid dealing with the problems that Snotlout had with Hookfang in the series
Astrid was standing next to Hiccup, on the ramp overlooking the docks, where Hiccup has been since Chief Stoick left with all the able-bodied vikings to find the nest. Astrid had a light smile on her face when Hiccup's face lit up like he had an idea as he ran back in the direction of the kill ring, while Astrid decided to get the rest of the teens together for Hiccup's crazy plan.
After a few minutes of running around Berk, Astrid managed to convince the teens to join her in the kill arena, where they found Hiccup standing in front of the Monstrous Nightmare's pen. "If you're planning on getting eaten, I'd definitely go with the Gronckle." Fishlegs said, making Hiccup to turn around to see Astrid and the rest of the teens.
"You were wise to seek help from the world's most deadly weapon. That's me." Tuffnut said, pointing to himself with his hand for effect. Hiccup just backed, unsure of what they were told.
Snotlout just pushed Tuffnut out of the way and got into his face. Snotlout seemed happy about whatever Astrid told him the plan was. "I love this plan!"
"I didn't.." Hiccup started, as he gave a look to Astrid that said, 'what did you tell them'?
Ruffnut then pushed Snotlout out of the way and got in his face. "You're crazy!" Ruffnut said, as she leaned in to whisper. "I like that..."
Hiccup sighed a breath of relief when Astrid pulled Ruffnut away by her side braid. "So? What is the plan?" Astrid asked, as Hiccup looked at the teens behind Astrid and then at her with a light smile.
The teens returned to the center of the arena as Hiccup ran outside to pull the lever controls for each pen, and returned once the first dragon, a Deadly Nadder, opened it's pen. It saw the teens standing in the middle of the arena, and the brown haired teen standing in front of it, with his hand sticking out towards the Nadder. The Nadder just looked at the boy, clearly confused, before following him as he slowly backed up to the other teens.
The other teens watched with expressions of amazement and wonder, except for Snotlout who was concerned. He saw and reached down to grab the sharp end of a broken spear, only to have Astrid lightly hit his shoulder. "Uh-uh." She said, making Snotlout put the broken spear down, as Hiccup and the Deadly Nadder approached the group.
"Wait! What are you-?!" Snotlout started, clearly worried, as Hiccup took Snotlout's hand and guided it to the Deadly Nadder's beak. The Deadly Nadder let out an intrigued warble as Snotlout's hand made contact with the dragon's beak. After a few moments, Snotlout laughed nervously since he realized that he was touching a dragon, or bonding as Hiccup called it. 'Where are you going?"
"You're going to need something to help you hold on." Hiccup said, as he reached into a supply box and pulled out rope. The rest of the dragons came out of their pens, looking at the teens with a mix of confused and intrigued expressions.
Astrid found herself watching Snotlout bond with the Deadly Nadder, as Hiccup had the twins bond with the Zippleback and Fishlegs with the Gronckle, which left the Monstrous Nightmare, which was watching her expectantly. Snotlout didn't seem to mind that the Deadly Nadder was female (Fishlegs was the one who revealed it to him), as it let out a content warble due to the attention Snotlout was giving her, and Astrid found herself wishing that she could switch dragons with Snotlout, since the Deadly Nadder was her favorite dragon, but she'll have to worry about that later.
Astrid turned to face the Monstrous Nightmare, who was just watching her with expectant expression, as she lightly put her hand on the Monstrous Nightmare's snout, the same one that tried to kill her and Hiccup a few hours before. Astrid found herself smiling lightly as the dragon leaned into her touch, while making a content sounding noise, as it puffed out air, which blew her bangs away from her face. Astrid couldn't help but laugh lightly as she bonded with the Nightmare while Hiccup was busy putting rope around it's neck as a makeshift saddle.
The rest of the teens were already on their dragons, as they waited for Hiccup and Astrid to get on the Nightmare. Hiccup sat down on the Nightmare's long neck, as Astrid sat behind him, holding on to him so she doesn't fall off. "Remember, only a dragon can find the nest, so you need to follow me. We to save the expedition and defeat a monster dragon." Hiccup said, as he nudged the Nightmare who flew out of the arena followed by the other teens on their dragons, and the group started flying in the direction of the nest.
