Chapter 12
Lee swore to himself as he chased Steve. This time he wasn't going to let him get away. Lee yelled into his microphone, "I'm chasing the suspect who is heading to the building with the big clock by Toontown. He's trying to escape through there."
Lee heard Calvin through his earpiece. "Sending security now to help."
Steve pushed and jumped his way through the mass of people, tumbling all over the guests and staff.
Lee stopped long enough to inform the personnel. "Close the ride and evacuate the people from the boats! He's a suspect in a federal matter."
Lee scurried past them and followed the offender into the building. It was dark and he could hear music blaring. As his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he saw different sections lit with various robotic children in different costumes. The same song seemed to be repeated endlessly. 'It's a small world after all'.
Lee spied his adversary on the other side of the boat canal in the section with drumming toy soldiers. He noticed Steve was trying to adjust to the light too. Now was his chance. He was able to jump from a boat which was empty of passengers, to the other side where the scumbag was.
Just as he was about to catch up with him, Steve realized his pursuer was near and ran behind the drummers. Lee followed suit as they weaved in and out between the animated dancers and singers.
Scarecrow then decided to pull the rubber bullet gun from under his t-shirt. He wasn't too sure if he could get a clear enough shot to stop his suspect.
It was hard to hurry because of so many wires and electrical stations low to the ground in the dark. With all that in mind, Lee decided to try shooting one of the props to block Steve's way instead. He aimed and fired at a flower petal that was spinning around. The petal flew into the air and crashed into a dancing ice skater. So much for that plan, he thought.
Lee became distracted when he heard lots of noise from a stalled gondola. In all the chaos, not all of the passengers had been evacuated and were calling for help. An attendant arrived to assist them. When the boat lurched unexpectedly, those standing fell into the water.
Lee could see Steve ahead of him, darting through more props. At one point, his clothing got caught on a windmill. It enabled Lee to close in, but as he got only a few feet away, Steve unfortunately had managed to untangle himself.
As he was creeping up, a windmill swung around and hit Lee, making him stumble. Thankfully, it didn't knock him out. Lee kept wondering where his reinforcements were as he followed his prey out the exit into the open again and chased after him.
Amanda was sitting on a park bench taking a break, letting her stomach settle. They'd all ridden the Tea Cups, and again like when she was young, they made her dizzy and nauseous. To her dismay, the children had decided the Bob Sleds were next. Melanie offered to take them since Amanda wasn't feeling up to it. She closed her eyes, soaking in the warm rays of the sun that'd finally burned the clouds away.
Amanda heard a commotion and opened her eyes. People were running from all directions. Some of the security forces were following two other men, and they were coming her way. She realized it was Lee chasing Steve. Amanda waited until the precise moment when Steve was right in front of her, then pushed the stroller into his path. He crashed head long into it and landed in a heap under the carriage dazed. Lee arrived, surveying the scene with his stun gun drawn. He grinned widely, with his famous dimples displayed for his wife.
"Way to go, partner!" Lee exclaimed proudly. He glanced around worriedly. "Where is everybody?"
Amanda encircled her arms around Lee's waist. "Don't worry, they're on the Bob Sled ride. I was too sick from the Teacups to go on it."
The officers caught up and slapped their handcuffs on Steve.
Looking around at the crowd, who was gathering, Lee addressed the other security members. "We better get out of here. I'll see you back at the hotel, Honey!" Lee gave Amanda a quick kiss and wink as he followed the guards escorting their prisoner backstage to security headquarters.
