A/N: Just so you don't get confused, this chapter takes place the day before Rollercoaster on the last day of school, as a prologue to the summer.
SLAM!
Perry Fletcher (codename: Agent Platypus) firmly shut the crammed car trunk of his two-door sedan. Today had been the last day of "boarding school", which meant he was heading home to stay for the whole summer, a time of the year he always looked forward to. Sure, in recent years Perry had had to still do missions under the guise of an "internship", but they weren't usually as long or hard and it was nice to be around his family everyday rather than just the weekends and holidays. He also liked being able to sleep in his comfy bed every night rather than mostly sleeping on a top bunk.
"Does everything fit?" his roommate Carlos (codename: Agent Chihuahua), better known by his nickname Pinky, yelled as he came running up to the car, arms full of his last few bags. They'd been roommates since Perry was 10 and Pinky was 9; in that year they'd both been transferred to the USA's branch of the Academy Without a Cool Organization, and Pinky spoke very little English at that time while Perry had a thick British accent that few could easily understand. Well, Perry's accent hadn't changed much, but Pinky's English definitely had.
"Barely," Perry replied. "So you're gonna have to put those bags up with you in the seat."
"That'll be okay," Pinky hauled the bags over to the passenger side door and sat down, setting them down around him. "Though we need to not bring this much stuff next year."
"You know, we don't have to carpool next year," Perry pointed out as he settled into the driver's seat, pulling his seatbelt on.
"But it's our tradition!" Pinky whined, to which Perry simply rolled his eyes in response and turned his key in the ignition. "Don't look at me with that tone of voice!"
"Moving on…" Perry changed the topic. "Did you have to fight Poofenplotz today?"
"Yes, ugh," Pinky sighed. "She had some sort of scheme about how 'back to school' sales are practically starting as soon as school gets out, and how she was going to make her fashion be the back to school fashion? To be honest, I wasn't really paying attention. What about you? Did you have to fight Doofenshmirtz today?"
"Yeah." Perry focused on driving as they went through downtown Danville.
"Oh, c'mon, amigo, you're gonna have to give me more details than that!" Pinky protested. "What was his scheme? His motivation? Did he even have one?"
"It was a Theme-Song-Inator today. He said that every great villain has a great theme song, so he was going to shoot himself with it, and then everyone would want to do his bidding because of his catchy song," Perry explained a little nervously. "Only…it hit me instead."
"So you got a theme song?!" Pinky was instead excited. "Cool! What does it sound like?"
"Kinda like the James Bond theme," Perry omitted telling him that it also called him "Perry the Platypus," which meant that Doofenshmirtz now knew that his first name. After all, what Pinky didn't know wouldn't hurt him. Besides, Perry still didn't know why it had called him that, though he did suppose it had a nice ring to it.
"Huh. Did it happen to mysteriously fire in the direction of your backyard?" Pinky asked with a grin.
"Not that I saw. Doofenshmirtz got disappointed with it because it didn't give him a great villain theme, and I didn't destroy it since technically it wasn't evil," Perry explained. "So…that means that whatever Phineas and Ferb did today might–might–still be there when we get home."
"I wonder if Isa's grown any since I last saw her!" Pinky was practically shaking with excitement, so it was good Perry was the one driving.
"You saw her last week," Perry pointed out.
"And? She's a growing niña!"
Perry just rolled his eyes fondly in response as he turned the steering wheel to the left, pulling onto Maple Drive. As they got closer to their houses, they could see some bicycles being thrown into the air.
"How much do you wanna bet that's Phineas and Ferb's project for today?" Pinky pointed at the bicycles.
"Nothing; we don't make nearly enough to be betting."
"And yet we still do!"
As Perry focused on backing up into the Garcia-Shapiro driveway first, Pinky pulled out one of their agent cameras and snapped a shot of the view of the Flynn-Fletchers' backyard. At the exact moment that Perry put the car into park, Vivian Garcia-Shapiro was out in the driveway to greet them.
"Hola, boys!" she called as they opened up their doors.
"Hola, Tía Viv!" Pinky greeted his aunt Vivian with a hug. "Where's my little prima?"
Vivian chuckled in reply, "Take a guess, Carlos."
"With Phineas and Ferb?" he guessed as Vivian nodded.
"Well, at least we can be fairly sure Mr. Garcia-Shapiro isn't with Phineas and Ferb," Perry quipped, starting to unload Pinky's stuff from the car.
"No, he's still busy with work, "Vivian laughed as she walked up to help him unload, "But at least you're un chico fuerte, Perry!"
Perry was indeed a strong boy, and even though it was just the three of them unloading they quickly finished it. Still, not quickly enough to see exactly what the bicycles being thrown into the air were about, as they disappeared.
"See you in a bit, Tía Viv; you know the drill. We've gotta go get Perry unloaded and eat Mrs. Fletcher's pies and that'll probably all take awhile," Pinky hugged his aunt once more.
"Just make sure everyone else gets a slice, mi sobrinito," Vivian teased.
"I always do!" Pinky protested as Perry laughed. "I swear!"
"I'll make sure he does," Perry continued the joke, guiding his friend toward the door.
"Gracias, Perry!" Vivian laughed. "Nice to see you! Tell your family hola for me!"
"Of course!" Perry shouted back as he and Pinky walked out of the house.
Perry hopped into the car again and pulled into his driveway while Pinky just walked across the street, helping him to back up the car. They loaded up their arms full of Perry's stuff, with Pinky carrying a bit more than Perry since he had to open the gate.
As expected, Candace could be heard stuttering, "But but but but but-"
"Nice to see you too," Perry teased as he and Pinky stepped through the back gate, which swiftly earned him a glare from Candace. Ah, to be back home. Stacy, who was standing looking slightly exasperated next to Candace, was more friendly and waved to the older boys.
"Oh, there you are, Perry!" Phineas shouted as he and Ferb bounded up to their older brother.
Isabella, meanwhile, ran up to her cousin and apologized, "Sorry, Pinky, I didn't mean to miss helping you unload! I didn't realize that you were already home!"
"That's okay, Is," Pinky forgave her. "We handled it. Besides, it looked like you had your hands full over here!"
"You guys just missed it! We were teaching monkeys to juggle bicycles!" Phineas explained.
"Oh, that's what that was!" Pinky exclaimed. "We could see the bicycles in the air from across the street, but we couldn't quite tell what it was."
Candace turned her glare towards Pinky instead after that statement.
"What?" he asked innocently.
"Well, Phineas, how about you tell us all about it while we unload?" Perry suggested.
"Okay!" Phineas agreed.
Just then the side door opened and Mom stepped out, asking, "Anyone want some pie?"
Everybody threw a hand up, especially Pinky which was impressive considering his arms were currently completely loaded with Perry's stuff. Okay, maybe not that impressive as he proceeded to drop a bit of the load from raising his hand.
"Oops," Pinky said, bending over to try to pick it up, only for most of the rest of the load to fall out of his arms. "Oy vey!"
"I've got it!" Isabella said eagerly, as she, Phineas, and Ferb bent over to pick up what he'd dropped. Pretty soon, they'd collected all of it and started again heading inside. Of course, they were going to have a few more trips of unloading before they could start eating pies.
And that was how Perry's summer began.
There's 104 days of summer vacation and school comes along just to end it
So the annual problem for our generation is finding a good way to spend it
