Chapter 1

They needed a new Hokage in the wake of Pain's attack. The Daimyo had come for that reason and a few others. Needless to say, he had come just in time.

"Hizuren's teachings are what brought us to this situation in the first place, that weakness is what weakened Konoha, and got him killed." Danzo said.

"Watch yourself Danzo." Shikaku Nara narrowed his eyes at the bandaged man. "You constantly tried to undermine the Third, and let's not ignore the fact that you're one of the reasons Konoha has enemies."

"Excuse me?"

"Root did horrendous things in the past and the repercussions still harm is to this very day, we've lost allies, and good shinobi because of you."

The usually calm man wasn't going to hold back anymore. Someone needed to say something, and keep this power-hungry war hawk from becoming Hokage. Lest he make every other village an enemy, and bring about the fall of Konoha.

"In truth you should've been executed years ago, but were only spared due to technicalities and Hizuren showing you mercy." He stood up.

"Then who would you recommend for the position of Hokage?" the Daimyo asked. "Yourself?"

"No." his mind then went to something that the Third told him before his death.

"Danzo must never become Hokage, under any circumstances." The old man said. "I trust you to make the right decision when the time comes, and support whomever you believe will lead the village to a brighter future."

"I nominate the one who just saved the village, Naruto Uzumaki."

"You can't be serious." Danzo said.

"I'm dead serious." The man said.

"Uzumaki Naruto." The Daimyo started. "I've heard a lot about him from the reports Tsunade sent me, not to mention his many other exploits have caught my attention."

The man smiled.

"My personal advisors even brought him up a few times, especially after that whole blood prison incident." He spoke. "The smaller villages and towns that he has saved and brought peace to are big accomplishments too, his words have turned enemies into friends and I suspect that's why all those who died have come back." – "Naruto Uzumaki seems to bring hope and peace wherever he goes, it's truly amazing."

The Daimyo stood up.

"I've decided, Naruto Uzumaki shall become the Rokudaime Hokage!"

The Nara clan head smirked along with the others; they didn't want Danzo in power either. Koharu and Homaru were speechless upon hearing the Daimyo say that he was going to make Naruto Uzumaki the new Hokage. Danzo was livid, his plans were ruined because the Nara had to open his damn mouth. There was no plan to counter this yet, after all, nobody could've seen it coming.

Konoha – Medical Tent

"I give you my eye so that you may use it to protect those precious to you, but I must warn you that Madara isn't the only threat you face." Nagato suddenly coughed up blood. "Konan, you have to perform the transplant, use both my eyes so that Madara can't get them." He didn't have much time left. "Naruto, go to ruins Uzushiogakure and look in the only shrine standing, there you should find the information you need, and the secrets of our clan…I'm glad I didn't destroy them."

The transplant had been a complete success. Their being blood related helped a good bit, and the side effect was only slightly noticeable with Naruto now having red highlights and his hair growing a bit longer. Specifically in the back where it nearly reached his waist. It was odd, but Konan chalked it up to his Uzumaki genes reacting to the rinnegan and becoming prominent as a result.

This brought him to his current situation, Sakura was pressing him for information. The teen knew that something big happened, and that it had changed him.

"It's just the two of us here, so out with it!" Sakura was getting impatient. "You can trust me; you know you can so don't shut me out."

In truth she wanted to mention Sasuke, but refrained from doing so. Their former teammate had no place in this conversation, it was between her and her hero of a teammate.

"It's beyond complicated and to be honest even I'm not completely sure how to take it." The blonde sighed. "But as it turns out, Nagato and I were related by blood." He stated. "Then he gave me this so I could protect all of you guys."

Naruto activated his rinnegan which of course shocked the pinkette. Her teammate had the same eyes as the one who had just devastated their village with ease.

"Naruto, why would you accept that kind of power?" she asked, desperate to know what her friend had been thinking. "Accepting power from an enemy of the village is exactly what Sasuke did and he betrayed us afterwards." She grabbed his shoulders. "This power is greater than what Orochimaru gave Sasuke so who's to say it won't corrupt you even faster?"

"I'm not Sasuke!" Naruto yelled. "I don't desire vengeance; my only wish is to protect the village and those precious to me." He stated. "Besides, if I wanted to leave like Sasuke did then I would've done it already."

Sakura didn't like this. Sure she agreed with his last point, but even so there was no telling what those eyes might do to him.

"I guess that's true, but I just need to know that you won't go insane or do anything foolish like run off somewhere to train."

"Well, it's not training so much as looking for important information about another besides Madara, and learning the secrets of the Uzumaki Clan, the latter could help me get stronger."

Gaining more strength would certainly help, but he would like to learn more about the clan he belonged to. Konan had told him his mother's name before she left.

"I don't know why your sensei or the Hokage didn't tell you, but your mother's name is Kushina Uzumaki." Konan said. "Nagato and Itachi originally planned to convince you to join Akatsuki, and take the organization in another direction, but…" – "It's best you focus on the future, goodbye Naruto Uzumaki."

He had no idea how they'd planned to recruit him, but it must've been when he was younger. Likely after he fought Gaara, but he couldn't think about what ifs right now.

"How about you come with me to Uzushiogakure?" He offered. "I probably shouldn't go there alone anyway." He spoke.

Of course, there was a bigger reason he wanted her to accompany him. To keep her safe because not everyone had been brought back to life. Hinata was gone along with a few others including Konohamaru. Naruto hadn't been able to hold himself together once he was alone, he cried like any normal person would. But this was the life they lived; they all knew that becoming a shinobi meant that you might die in battle. Survival was never guaranteed.

"Go with you, isn't Uzushiogakure in the Land of Whirlpools?" she asked. "How are we supposed to get there?"

"Reverse summoning, the toads have been there in the past on multiple occasions and agreed to take me once I got permission from the Hokage." He explained. 'I would go even if I was told not to, I can't risk not attaining what might be vital information.'

"That kind of offer, is kind of—"

"Excuse me." The two turned to see an anbu. "Uzumaki-San your presence is required in Council Chamber, it's an order from the Daimyo."

"The Daimyo?" Naruto said nervously. "What's he doing here?"

"I don't know, all I was told to do was to retrieve you." She spoke.

"He must be here about the attack." Sakura said. "Naruto, you have to watch what you say and do around the Daimyo, one word and he could literally starve the village or worse."

"That's just an exaggeration, right?"

"No, she is completely right about the Daimyo being able to do such a thing although there would be consequences for him seeing as we are one of the major villages, and we've kept him and his line alive for generations." The Anbu said. "Even so, we shouldn't keep him waiting."

Naruto looked to Sakura who was worried about not only Naruto, but the village as well.

"Don't worry I'll make sure to not give him a reason to hurt the village, I promise." He said before standing up. "Alright, let's go meet the most influential people in the world."

He followed the Anbu, leaving a worried Sakura behind once again. Something told her that this was the start of something that would change their lives forever, and there was no turning back.

Konoha – Council Chamber

All eyes were on him as he walked into the room; something important happened and it had to do with him. Naruto didn't like it when people made choices that directly affected him without his consent. This was one of the reasons he had become interested in the internal politics of the village. He was a shinobi, but he was also a person who didn't want to be used as a weapon. Tsunade had been made aware of this, and that is why he had made it perfectly clear that while he loved this village; he wouldn't hesitate to resign if she tried to make him do anything that he didn't agree with. Naruto Uzumaki wouldn't be treated like some kind if weapon by anyone.

"Naruto Uzumaki, do you know why you've been called here?" the Daimyo asked.

"I do not, Daimyo-sama." Naruto asked. "It is a pleasure to see you again after two years." He gave them a respectful bow.

"Oh, come now, you of all people need not bow to me, besides I've heard that you never bowed to the Fifth or the Third." He couldn't help but chuckle. "May the Third rest in peace, and I'm sure he'd be happy to see how far you've come, and proud of what your accomplishments; especially the one I'm about to give you."

"Huh?"

"Naruto Uzumaki, I have chosen you to be Senju Tsunade's successor!" he exclaimed. "You will become the Rokudaime Hokage!"

The blonde was completely silent as he took in the words that had just been said. His mind could barely comprehend the idea of becoming Hokage while he was this young, and not older. He was younger than his dad was when he became Hokage. Not to mention this put a dent in his plan to find love before becoming Hokage, it had been a step-by-step plan really. Well, more of a fantasy that he wanted to come true.

"You're making me Hokage…why me?" he asked. "I'm only 17 and still a genin, not to mention I'm the—"

"Rank means nothing in the face of true leadership, your accomplishments earned Konoha not only allies, but you've caught the attention of various nobles in the Capital." He stated. "The village needs to be brought into a new era, and it takes someone like you to lead us there." He really did believe in the blonde. "Your father was a great man and your mother was an amazing woman, both were taken too soon."

"Daimyo-sama." He took a deep breath. "If possible, could we delay my official reveal for seven days?"

"Oh?"

"Before dying, Pains true body gave me information that is crucial to defeating the true leader of Akatsuki, Madara Uchiha."

"Impossible." Danzo said. "He died during his battle with the First Hokage."

"That's what history says, but we are all very aware that lifespan extending jutsu exist along with ways to bring back the dead." Naruto said. "Madara was a genius beyond belief who fought on par with the First, him not having a way to survive or come back is inconceivable, and we don't know the full range of his abilities." Naruto explained. "Pains real body, Nagato had the rinnegan and he was an Uzumaki like me."

"And?"

"He said that Madaras sharingan more than likely evolved into a rinnegan before his death or while he was recovering from his wounds that the First gave him, the rinnegan is the final form of the sharingan just like, and the Sage of Six Paths was said to have unlocked it." Naruto said. "Legends are quickly becoming facts and after my own fight the demon Mōryō, it's obvious that we can no longer take our world lightly lest we awaken something worse than Madara."

The blonde wouldn't mention the time travel incident and how he changed the past, Sāra's Daughter was proof. His daughter was proof, and she was very aware of who her father is.

"If this information really is critical then why not send someone else to retrieve it,"

"Only an Uzumaki can access the scrolls and the secrets inside, please, everything I do I do for the survival of the village and my precious people." He stated. "If this information can help me then that means it can help the village, and that increases our chances of survival."

"The boy makes a good point." Homaru says. "I've always found it hard to believe that the Uzumaki Clan was pushed to near extinction and how Uzushiogakure fell, they were the most technologically advanced village at the time." He stated.

"Madara must've seen them as a threat, enough of a threat that he tried to wipe them out." Hisashi said. "By all logical means, Uzushiogakure should not have fallen like it did."

"The Uchiha Massacre was bad, but if he really was willing to bring down an entire village just to get rid of one clan then the Uzumaki must've had something that could kill him for good." Koharu chimed in.

"Damnit, it all makes too much sense and that's the scary part." Shikaku growled. "90,000 people, dead because of one man."

Danzo stayed silent, he hated this, but he had to agree. The village was vulnerable, and they needed something. Information was the strongest thing they could gain aside from some kind of super weapon. The Uzumaki never revealed their secrets, but if Konoha could get their hands on them then he wouldn't complain. He would play the part of supporting the young Hokage for now.

Konoha – Hokage Tower

Naruto sat at the desk that would officially be his in seven days. Shikaku Nara, Kakashi Hatake, Anko, Ibiki Morino, Might Guy, and the two elders were in front of him.

"Naru—" he stopped himself. "Sorry, Hokage-sama, I would like to say that as your former sensei, I am immensely proud of you." Kakashi said bowing to the blonde. 'Sensei, I will protect your son and this time I won't fail.'

"Indeed, it is good to see that the fires of youth shall lead this village!" Guy exclaimed. "Your father and mother would be proud!" he was beginning to tear up.

"A genin Hokage, these are some strange times we're living in wouldn't you say, Anko?" Ibiki asked.

"More like insane, with all the shit that's happened, this is actually a relief!" the woman said.

"Everyone, let's address the reason I called you all here." Naruto's voice caused them to immediately cease their prattling and stand ready to hear their leader. "Good, now let's not waste time." He then proceeded to explain his plan to go to Uzushiogakure.

"Hokage-sama if I may, the Uzumaki were seal masters who very rarely taught their most advanced techniques to outsiders; your own mother only taught Minato-sensei very little in order to keep him safe." Kakashi said.

"They're that dangerous?"

"Yes, and once they're in your hands it'll put a target on your back." The older man stated.

"If it gets out and it won't." The blonde said. "Nobody else is to know that I've been chosen as Hokage until I've returned for the ceremony." This couldn't get out yet. "I want all and I mean all shinobi recalled to the village until I return."

"For what reason?" Koharu inquired.

"We've been weakened significantly and that gives various factions a chance to try and finish us off." Naruto said. "Shikaku, I want you to mobilize what forces we have, and direct them to key points in order to protect our borders." He ordered. "Kakashi, I need you to keep the village stable until I come back with Guys assistance; you're going to have to keep the shinobi inside the village from going off on their own." He explained. "Anko and Ibiki, I want the two of you to subtly investigate any signs of sabotage."

"Sabotage?"

"Someone tried to delay my return to Konoha, and my gut instinct is telling me that this person thinks they're safe." He sounded angry. "That person likely wanted to let the village take enough damage so that they could take advantage of the opportunity, Sai told me of someone who would do this without a second thought."

"Danzo."

"Something about him isn't right."

"Be wary of Danzo, that man isn't someone to be trusted especially with ROOT still active."

Konan had given him a lot of information before leaving. If Danzo was going to try anything then he wanted to be ready. Sai couldn't verbally confirm his suspicions, but writing it was another story altogether.

"Now, then." He looked to the elders. "I need you to cooperate with me here so I don't need up like the Third or my dad." He stated. "Madara was behind the Nine Tails attack 17 years ago and caused the death of both my parents, something like that can't be allowed to happen again." He spoke. "Now, could Madara be out for revenge against us for the Uchiha Massacre?"

"The massacre was Itachi Uchiha's doing." Koharu said.

"I've always wondered why Itachi did it, he doesn't seem like someone who would kill needlessly, and then he spared Sasuke." Naruto frowned. "Tell me something, did the two of you and the Hokage have anything to do with the Uchiha Massacre?"

The two looked to each other and made a silent agreement.

"The Uchiha were planning a coup so we, Danzo, and the Third had him end it, before it could happen with his only request being that his brother be allowed to live." Koharu said. "He was also ordered to infiltrate the Akatsuki and sabotage them in any way he could."

Naruto's chakra flared as a response to how livid he now was. This caused the group to freeze in place. The pressure was heavy, and they could feel his anger. Not to mention the obvious fact that he was stronger than them, it felt like they were but prey standing in front of a predator, just waiting to be eaten.

"God damnit, what the hell were you people thinking?" The blonde demanded. "Did you even try and find another way to deal with them? Or did you just go straight to slaughter?"

"We tried negotiating, but nothing worked; they left us with no choice but to act." She spoke. "You know how dangerous the sharingan is, and many of the Uchiha were ready for an all-out civil war!"

Koharu took a breath and calmed herself down.

"Nobody wanted the massacre, but we had no other option." Homaru said. "Hokage-sama, you know how shinobi life is, sometimes we have to do things we hate in order to protect everyone; we have people precious to us just like you."

Naruto pulled his chakra back in, he didn't like this at all, but he never really tried to see the elders as people. It never occurred to him that they might have precious people that they'd be willing to kill for.

"While I do wish things had gone differently, I'll just have to accept what happened and deal with the fallout; Sasuke being one of them." Naruto said. "Now, I'll be taking Sakura Haruno and Sai with me to Uzushiogakure as bodyguards." He stood up. "You all have your assignments and you know your roles, I'll be back in six days."

With that said he jumped out of the window.

"Why the window?" Anko asked.

"He's excited to see something new and learn about his Clan." Kakashi said. "Although, this does make me wonder why we don't talk about the Uzumaki Clan in the Academy."

"Let's just say that they had their own Madara Uchiha, but she was much worse." Koharu said. "It took the First, Madara himself, Mito Uzumaki, and the other Kage to destroy her." She explained. "Honerva Uzumaki nearly destroyed the world years ago."

"Before she died, she proclaimed that her descendant would inherit her strength and finish what she started." Homaru said. "That's why we watched our new Hokage so closely, Naruto has her blood in his veins and we were afraid of him going down that same path."

"You truly think Naruto could become that evil?"

"Anything is possible, even if you don't want to believe it."

Konoha – Streets

"So, you've been given permission to go and retrieve this information, and you want to take us?" Sai asked.

"I trust you guys, plus our teamwork should keep us alive if there are any hostiles or traps that the Uzumaki may have left." He spoke. "Plus, I'd rather have friends with me rather than go alone."

"Of course, we're coming." Sakura said. 'I should keep an eye on him, he's going to need support.' She was worried about him.

Such worry was warranted as what they would find in Uzushiogakure would change so many things that Naruto Uzumaki believed in, and held dear.
