Stella and I arrived at the cafeteria where my friend group sat, eating their lunch and chatting as normal. It consisted of Stephanie, her twin brother Samuel, a young boy named Skylar, his younger sister Janessa, Clara, and another boy named Chase.
I've known most of these guys since middle school, but we grew closer over the years. The one thing we all had in common? We were all descendants from the Avengers. It just made sense that we were all close. We all experienced some form of loss in our lives. At least we weren't alone.
Stephanie and Samuel were Captain's kids. The two of them are inseperable, but they have different interests. Stephanie's into history while Samuel spends most of his time playng basketball, being part of the school's team. Both, though, do enjoy volunteering in the community whenever they can as a tribute to their father and how he helped his people out. Their mother, Sharon, takes care of them and while she does let them do their own thing, she's strict and very protective. As a mother should.
Then we've got Clara. Clara's always been a rebel, not really wanting to participate in school. She tries to skip as often as she can. I've only known Clara since the start of the schoolyear, but we've bonded. Clara's the daughter of Hawkeye, and she looks up to her father a lot. She's been learning sign language, due to Clint's hearing starting to deteriorate much more. I've been learning with her because I'm always wanting to try new things.
Janessa and Skylar, the youngest in our group, are Hope and Scott Lang's kids, the youngest of them. How I would describe the two of them would be energetic and unique in their own ways. Skylar loves gaming while Janessa's an art freak. She's always drawing something, and Skylar's always talking about the new games he's playing.
And then there's Chase. He's always been kind of a loner, but we invited him to join our group one day, and he started to open up. Chase came here to America about a year ago from Wakanda after he lost his father years ago at a young age. His father was T'Challa, the king of Wakanda himself, Black Panther. Moving here was difficult for him, but he seemed to adjust well once he found himself a group of people which he felt comfortable with.
"Hey, guys," I said as I sat down and motioned Stella to join me at an open seat next to me. She sat down as well and pulled out a bag with her lunch. "So this is Stella. She's new, so I wanted to introduce you to her."
Everyone smiled and made their introductions. "Thank you, guys so much. It's nice to meet you too," Stella replied with a bright smile on her face.
"So tell us about yourself. Got any hobbies?" Stephanie asked.
"Well I've been homeschooled my entire life, but I've always wanted to go to public school to see what it's like. I convinced my dad to let me go. He's very protective." Everyone couldn't help but agree.
"Yeah we know what that's like," Skylar responded. "They don't want us getting into things that could be potentially be dangerous or risky."
"It's as if they don't want us out in public. Even getting a minor scrape or bruise means that they're gonna prevent us from going outside," added Janessa.
Stella nodded. "Parents are like that, but I feel like mine are more protective than most. I mean, I'm honestly not surprised. Can you keep a secret?"
"Of course," I said. "We all have secrets of our own." Stella looked around to make sure no one was listening and leaned in. "Well the reason why my dad is so protective is because he knows how dangerous the world is. He's an Avenger."
We all looked at her and smiled. "Dude that's your secret? It's not that big," Samuel responded. Stella looked at him with confusion. "What do you mean?" she asked.
"What Samuel means is that we all have the same secret. We're all related to a member of the Avengers," Stephanie responded. Stella kind of looked aback. "Oh. I thought it was only Tina." Stephanie shook her head. "No it's not just her. Samuel and I are Captain's kids. Janessa and Skylar are Ant-Man and Wasp's kids, Clara's the daughter of Hawkeye, and Chase happens to be from Wakanda. He's the son of Black Panther."
"Oh really? Well that's awesome! I'm happy that I'm not alone here," Stella said, now feeling more relaxed. We spent the rest of the lunch period chatting and sharing stories of each other. I learned that Stella's been learning how to become a sorceress along with doing school.
The bell ending lunch period began to ring and we all packed up our stuff to head to our next class for the day. Suddenly, there was a loud explosion outside of the school and this huge earthquake started. Everyone panicked. Some were scrambling, some dropped the floor, and some ran out of the room. We all dropped to the floor and hid underneath the table, waiting for the earthquake to pass.
After a few minutes, the shaking stopped. "Is everyone alright?" I asked. "I-I think so?" stammered Janessa. "What the hell was that?"
"Yeah it sounded like a bomb went off!" exclaimed Skylar. We all got to our feet. The cafeteria was a mess. There were trays on the floor, trashcans were flipped over, and people were panicking. The intercom turned on and our principal came over the speaker. "Students I hope you're all okay. Due to the earthquake and the explosion, school will be ending early. Please take care or yourselves and be careful."
We all looked at one another as our cellphones began ringing and receiving text messages. My mom definitely sent me a message saying she was on her way to get me. Morgan also sent me a message asking if I was alright. I replied saying I was fine, and Mom was heading over. "Well, we'd better get going," Stephanie said. "This wasn't a normal earthquake."
"I agree. There is something strange going on here, and I do not know if the earthquake was intentional or not," Chase replied. We all nodded in agreement. Whatever was happening didn't seem like it was a coincidence. Little did we know, our life was about to become even stranger. We just didn't know it.
S.H.I.E.L.D's base leader, Nick Fury, walked into the main room with the rest of the agents working furiously to figure out what had just happened. The explosion near the high school caused a major earthquake to spread throughout the entire city, causing damage in some places.
"Someone tell me what the hell is going on here and why there hasn't been any progress," he snapped. "We're doing everything we can, sir," one of the agents responded, furiously typing on his computer.
One of the agents walked up to Fury and whispered something into his ear. He turned to face the agent. "You've got to be joking. Tell me you're making this up," he said, anger in his voice. The agent shook her head.
"Sir, I'm afraid not. We've gotten word that Leanna's plan has begun, and the explosion came from a space pod. Whoever was inside has now left. The agents in the field have confirmed that whoever was inside there came from Asgard. They're related to this case specifically."
Fury couldn't help but facepalm. The situation was bad enough already, and now someone from Asgard had landed on Earth, making it a much bigger problem. Usually in times like these, he would send out for his team of heroes, but because a lot of them hadn't been available due to living their lives, there wasn't really anything he could do. Except for one thing.
"Agent Hill, do you think you could get a hold of the families? The families of the Avengers? I think I have an idea to get this situation handled," he said. Agent Hill looked at him in confusion. "What do you mean by that exactly, sir?" she asked.
"I think we need to start a new program," Fury explained. "Since we can't call on the Avengers for help due to their...conditions at the moment, I know that they have their own children. They're about the same age as Leanna, aren't they?" Agent Hill nodded. "I think I see where you're coming from. You're wanting to see if these kids are able to handle this situation."
"It's the only way. Reach out to them and bring them here ASAP. I need to know if they can handle it," Fury replied. Agent Hill left and began sending messages to each of the families, hoping to get their attention. This situation was very serious, and it would be catastrophic if it wasn't handled properly. It was time for a new group to be formed, and Fury hoped that they would all be up to the task. This was the only hope for the world.
