Chapter 2: "Outbreak"
Jason had left the safehouse and was making his way back to Gentek to rescue and/or question Elizabeth Greene. Utilizing the increased running and jumping along with his new airdash and gliding to straight up avoid the ground.
'All the benefits of Batman without the dumbass cape for people to grab onto and throw you around like a ragdoll', Jason thought to himself as he glided through the air.
Jason stops on a roof across the street from the Gentek building.
'I got to find someone important that I can use to get into that facility...', Jason thinks on how to move forward. He changes into a Blackwatch soldier disguise, 'this should get me into the perimeter but I don't think it's enough to get me inside', he needs to consume the facility commander to get into the building unheeded.
He gets to street level unnoticed and walks through the main entrance into the property, 'these spooks aren't just digging in, they're taking over', Jason notes their set-up around the facility.
He soon notices these big devices that would blink rapidly and sound a loud series of beeps if he got to close, some kind of viral or infected detector. Hanging around to long will expose him to the surrounding army and Blackwatch soldiers.
Jason traveled to the back of the building to find the commander, he was dressed in camo with a black vest and and sunglasses. He consumed 1st Lt Todd Chupka, receiving memories about an incident that happened inside the building, explaining why it was sealed off.
Jason then used the commanders form to head for the front and entered Gentek. He then headed for the 51st floor, the Blacklight Research Division.
When he arrived, Jason saw the halls matted in organic matter. Dead bodies of Blackwatch soldiers laying all around.
Eventually, he came to a containment room where Elizabeth Greene sat in the middle on her examination table. She wore a black medical bodysuit. She had green eyes and a orangish red hair. Her hair was chopped and shaved in parts while also in a ponytail.
Jason cautiously walked up the steps to the container she was in and opened its door.
"Elizabeth Greene?", Jason calls out to her, taking a few steps forward while she remained silent before she lifted her head to look at him.
"The time for waiting is over", she spoke, her voice sounding like a weird angelic and demonic with an echo. She then got up to her feet and backhanded Jason out of the container door and into an infected wall. She then seemed to seductively walk towards him, her hips swaying.
"What the hell?", Jason groans from the attack as he had some trouble getting up.
"Watch", Greene states before placing her hand on his face. He flashes in his mind of what happened to her and what she planned to do now, he fell over due to the strain of the visions. Greene had then approached the nearby wall and touched it, the infection seeed to decay the wall and it broke apart, revealing the city skyline.
"I am your mother", she said to Jason.
"Bullshit", Jason replies through the pain, his mother may have been a redhead but it certainly was Greene.
Greene had then dived feet first out of the building, with Jason reaching to stop her. However, these infected sacs from the floors and walls spawned these beasts that soon attacked him and he was sent falling from the building.
"incoming!", some soldier yells before they are wipe out from the beasts landing on them, destroying the soldiers and nearby tanks
'There's to many of these fucking things. i need help with these', Jason then grabbed a nearby soldier, "I need to know what you know", and consumed him. He got flashes from PFc Jesse Arel of a military base they had set up and how there was skylights they needed to secure, how there were many men guarding it. 'I can contain them inside a military base', Jason thought to himself.
Jason grabbed a gun and fired on them to draw their attention and began traveling for the base in question. Traveling along the rooftops with these infected following along them as well. His radio overhearing the military talk about the situation before he then reached the base.
Smashing into the center skylight, Jason jumps into the base that was pretty much a warehouse.
"Motherfuck!", "Christ!", Some soldiers yell at his arrival and opened fire.
Jason used his new shield to block most of the bullets as he scoped out the inside of the base, noting some launchers before the infected, one of the... Hunters, soon arrived through the skylight.
"I don't know what you are, but I know I'm going to kill you", Jason says aloud to the hunters, doubting they could even understand him. Jason then grabbed a rocket launcher and shot some at the hunter till it was stunned. Jason then decided to try and consume it to see what would happen.
"I don't believe it! That's not possible - he's sucking it dry", soldiers cried out.
Consuming this Hunter was different from others as a body was left behind but he still got what he could from it.
Jason's body distorted as the black and red aura surrounded him and his arms changed into these black arms with four total fingers, made of blades. He would call these his Claws.
He began to slice the attacking soldiers apart before two more of the Hunters arrived, 'More of them! And I'm just getting started!', Jason thinks before attacking the Hunters with his new claws. he weedled it down before consuming one. Three more then showed, 'they keep coming, I keep killing'.
Jason grabbed another rocket launcher to stun them faster as the explosions would damage multiple at once. He then consumed some more to regain his vitality before five more Hunters appeared.
"We need fire fight crew here, watch out for those fuel tanks!", some soldier calls out, giving Jason an idea.
"You're gonna burn, You sons of bitches", Jason yells as he began attacking the tanks and the place began to burn, using grenade and rocket launchers to make it easier. Once the last one was ruptured, the building began to explode. The building collapsed as everything and everyone inside it died. All except for Jason.
He then took the time to observe his transformed arms with the metallic claws. He couldn't help but wonder what other powers he could unlock. Hopefully things that didn't need him to consume other stuff.
He left the area, to avoid Blackwatch and co., and pulled out a PDA he acquired from the consumed. Dana seems to have left events for him on it, to test his powers or to fuck with Blackwatch some more.
He decided to do those as he further evolved his powers, to increase his physical conditioning, first completing some races and a gliding events before heading for a kill event.
After which, he unlocked another offensive power that he calls Hammerfist, sacrificing speed for
power. These were black with thick arms and massive hands with tiny fingers. They were so heavy, Jason was weighed down by them.
On the way back to Dana, he consumed some important people he learned about through the Web of Intrigue. A Dr. Joseph Schulze showed how Greene was like a virus factory that could wipe out humanity, big whoops on Jason's part. Dr Bryan McCord's memories talked about a viral agent and how they have to make sure what happened in 1979 doesn't happen again.
Dana's Safehouse
Jason arrives here to discuss on what happened and on how to move forward.
"Does the name Karen Parker ring any bells?", Dana asks him when she sees him.
"No", Jason replies, "Why?"
"Well, she's Alex's ex-girlfriend. I have her address from the laptop.", Dana informs him, he remembers the photo with the blonde woman in Alex's apartment, "Get to her before the military makes her disappear. If I can find this lead, you can bet they have as well."
"Alright", Jason goes to leave.
"And Jason", Dana stops him for second, "Be careful. She might not be on our side".
Jason headed out for Karen Parker in the Upper West Side, seeing several building on fire in the area.
"Shit! This isn't looking good...", Jason remarks at the state of things, 'are the infected in the area?'. Jason closes in on Parker's residence to see the military being distracted by some kind of Infected Hive just across the street from her apartment. 'They're distracted, they haven't astracted Parker yet I can easily sneak inside', Jason notes before heading into the apartment building.
He gets to her apartment where she is startled by his presence.
"Karen Parker", Jason states
"What the...?! Who are you?!", Karen asked him.
"A friend of Dana Mercer", Jason replies, not wanting to share his name with her, "Right now, we need to get out of the military cordon."
Hesitantly, Karen says, "You need to get us a vehicle -- A military one if possible. it's the only way we'll be able to get out of the district safely."
He is silent as he heads back outside to precure transport for Karen. He then sees as the massive pusses on the hive building burst open.
'That red stuff is spreading fast', Jason surveys, 'Person to person. Building to building. Street to street. It's connected to Elizabeth Greene, it has to be.'
Hunters were running around, killing civilians and soldiers. Jason soon consumes another soldier to find out more information. Cptn Charles Conley's memories explained some things about Karen Parker and how they were going to transfer her to base Six Charlie Alpha One.
Soon, Jason was back in the waking world and used his new Hammerfists to easily dispatch the Hunters in the area. Afterwards, he ran from the area for a nearby base, north-west of Central Park, for a military transport for Karen.
He soon entered the base grounds where there was a identity scanner to enter the building. Jason needed to consume the base commander and assume his form to enter the base. He easily stealth consumed him while he was behind a truck, out of sight from the other soldiers, and easily entered the base.
'I don't know how to drive a tank or any of the other similar vehicles, but someone here does, and I'm going to learn it from them', Jason thinks to himself. Using the commander's knowledge, jason knew who was a driver here and went looking for him. Jason then followed him till he was out of eyesight of the others and quietly consumed him. He then got the memories of GySgt Mark Mead, now knowing his training and not having to waste tie learning the old fashioned way.
'Hell yeah', Jason cheered in his head before heading back outside, 'I can now drive all of their armored ground vehicles', there was a APC tank to the south gate of the compound that Jason took while in the driver's form and drove it to Karen Parker's location. he practice using the weaponry on some infected on the way.
'Damn, I can't just pick her up like this', Jason notes to himself as the hunters spawning from the hive were all over, 'I need to destroy the hive before I can do anything else'.
Jason began using the tank to fire shells and bullets into the infected building, killing any Hunters that got in his way. The hive soon collapsed on itself, burning fire as hunters were killed, very few were left alive on the outside. Karen Parker took the chance to enter the APC.
"Alright, this is where we should go, I'll mark it for you", she directs Jason to a place for her to stay in Harlem, just north of Central Park. Jason preferred this over taking her to Dana's
location, since he didn't trust the blonde as much. "Please, let's just get there safely", she pleads as he begins to drive to the location. There was chaos in the streets from the infected and actions to defeat them. Jason was trying to avoid running over them, but some scared dumbasses just couldn't help running in front of the tank. He kept track of those that died, and he hated the number as it increased.
He soon arrived at Karen's marked location, which was a little to close to the base Jason stole this tank from for his liking.\
Later, Day 4 of Infection, 4% of the Population of Manhattan Infected
Jason spent sometime after transporting Karen to enhance his abilities. He unlocked some ground spikes that erupt from under his enemies, usually using his claws to channel it. ALong with knuckle shockwaves, where he hits his fists together to blasts enemies away, and ground shattering, where he hits his fists onto the ground to launch enemies into the air.
He also unlocked a special vision ability, Thermal Vision. This allowed him to see his targets through smoke and debri, along with in the dark. 'Try to sneak up on me now, Bruce', Jason thought as he tested it out. The whole world took on a blue color while living things and other hotter things were a yellow or brighter color.
Dana sent him some more events to do, so he decided to check those out before he headed for Karen's. New ones were labeled, Military ad Infected is where he consumes a specific target then had to consume others in a timely manner.
1st LT John Chen, who talked about how jason was charged with treason and is enemy number one for the United States, utter bullshit in Jason's opinion.
Next was Sgt Joseph Sorenson, someone talked about a target with a low-effect personality.
Then was 1st Lt Brian Regenberg, he had orders form a General Randell infovling Greene, moving her out of the city, but it was to late for that.
S.Sgt Ernesto Sain, this involved their coldhearted orders, to kill without question so nothing crosses the Redline, whatever that is.
He also soon learned how to use an Artillery Strike, which may be useful in the future. While doing this, he also increased his skills in firearms and driving just by consuming.
He decided to follow the Web of Intrigue some more. L.Cpl Anthony Coffman, he talked about a special unit in Blackwatch that was now in charge. SgtMaj Robert Watson, who further talked about the troops, First Biological Warfare Command out of Fort Detrick.
More abilities evolved, with him increasing the speed and distance with his airdash along with gaining the ability to do another airdash after the first.
Soon after, Jason did another new event, this one referred to as War. Basically to fight to defeat the other side within a time limit.
During this he unlocked Devastators, powerful area of effect attacks. First was Tendril Barrage, where deadly tendrils erupt from his body in all directions to impale nearby enemies. The other is Groundspike Graveyard, this unleashes a wave of groundspikes in all directions and destroys everything nearby.
"Best to not use these around civilians", Jason tells himself, "they will get caught in the crossfire", 'Till I get better control at least'.
After all of this, Jason finally heads for Karen's Lab to continue with the mission he placed on himself.
Karen Parker's Lab, East Harlem
"We know a few things about the outbreak", Karen informs Jason as he arrives, "there are two genetic strains at work. i need samples from both types to be able to treat it.", she turns to him from her computer, "First, you're going to have to locate samples from the Infected Water Towers. And then, collect samples from a full-blown Hive". She then shows him some infor on her computer, "The water towers are prevalent in these areas. Get there, destroy them, and collect the material. Then head uptown and get the material from the Hive."
"Whatever's happening here", Jason begins, "This is only the beginning. We need to act fast, so prepare whatever equipment you need to, now"
Jason then left the lab and headed towards the Upper East Side, which has become a red zone with infected running around and buildings on fire.
"What is that?", Jason asked himself as he spied the water towers that looked like they were covered in living rust due to the virus. If Jason had to guess, the water towers are acting as incubators for Hunters. He needs to destroy them before the hunters hatch to gather the required genetic material. Of course, as he was doing this, Blackwatch troops had to show up and get in his way and try to kill, causing some Hunters to hatch.
"Dammit", Jason growls in anger before killing the Hunters before they could do any damage, "Fucking Blackwatch.".
After dealing with the Blackwatch in the area, Jason used his Groundspike via his claws to attack the water towers from a distance. Which worked greatly before more Blackwatch showed up.
"Son of a bitch!", Jason roars as he killed the darkly dressed soldiers and destroyed the helicopter. He then finished collecting form the towers.
"Almost done", he comments before moving to the Hive in the area, taking a military appearance asa to not draw attention. He arrives to see the Hive practically spewing out genetic material for him to collect,"well this will be easy", Jason tells himself.
Heading down to the Hive, he begins to collect the material needed. However, the military soon arrives to destroy the Hive.
'Shit, they can't destroy the Hive till after i'm finished,' Jason thought to himself, 'looks like I have to fight them off till I got all of the materials I need.' Jason then begins to destroy any tank or helicopter he sees along wth soldier with rocket launchers as he collects the genetic material from the Hive, finishing it before long.
After collecting the genetic materials, Jason decided to do more events, in hopes of evolving his powers even further. Which he did. He increased the speed of his regeneration and Consuming. Along with an Adrenaline surge, that allowed to be temporarily invulnerable when near death while also allowing him to use a single devastator with Critical Mass while in this state.
Jason also acquired two new offensive abilities. First was Musclemass, his arms take on a black bulky gorilla-like in appearance and make him twice as trong with his base arms, so the stronger he gets, the stronger his arms get. The other is the Whipfist, unlike the others, this only effect his right arm. It is a thin flexible arm with a bladed-edge replacing his hand, useful from extreme range or whipping through a crowd of enemies.
He then infiltrated a military base to consume some poor bastards for their skills that he didn't have that he may need, offering condolences to their families. Increasing his skills in some more weaponry and vehicles, thus increasing their use for jason in the field. Along with his control over the Artillery Strikes as a viable option when disguised, able to order increased firepower, radius, and duration.
Jason also ran into a Dr. Ricardo Garcia, he talked about a cover story to run tests on a small town somewhere. Increasing how sick Gentek and Blackwatch made him, making it easier for Jason to kill them.
He then found Dr. Jon Tynes, the memories talked about how her brain was fried from the virus but it seemed like she was waiting for something.
Next was Edmond Harper Phd, his memories talked about the army having built a town in about 1974, lying about why it was built to the civilians there.
Jason then left for Dana's.
Dana's Safehouse
"So where are they landing?", Jason asked her.
"Southeast Manhattan", Dana informs him, "but the carrier -- the USS Reagan -- is supposed to remain off the southern coast... i wonder where those trucks are heading?"
"Wherever they're going, I'll bet Mcmullen is there. He did this to me, killed Alex, and I'm going to find out why.", He states with certainty.
"And then?", she inquires.
"Then I'm going to make sure he never does it to anyone else", Jason replies, tired being hunted like a dog for reasons not his own, "ever again". He then leaves Dana to continue their work.
Blackwatch HQ, Red Crown Command, Battery Park
'Shit!', Jason thinks, 'this place is like a fortress. Someone here knows McMullen, and they'll me everything they know. One way or another'. Taking on a military form, he enters the base look for the Base Commander.
He soon notices a member of Blackwatch wearing white under his armor, 'He's in charge. He's who I want.' Jason tracked the man's movements, trying to stealthily consume him si a bitch here with so many soldiers walking around, he didn't want to just consume him as that could cause the base to go into lockdown more so than now.
Eventually, he consumes 2ndLt Joel Brunner, his memories showed them tracking Jason and how he was codenamed Prototype by their superiors along with an aerial mobile viral detector to zero in on Jason and take him out.
'Gonna to find Dana', Jason thinks in a panic from this information. he needs to stop them from finding the safehouse. He needs to destroy the patrols involved. He immediately heads for the nearest one.
'Those UAVs can know where I am and where I've been', Jason strategizes, 'I need to destroy them. They can find where Dana's safehouse is and I can't let that happen'. He hijacks one of
the tanks and destroys the other one while shooting down the UAVs. Then he heads for the next patrol but he also gots a Strike team on his tail.
Jason destroys the second patrol's UAVs first and then blows up the tanks before his own is destroyed. he takes this opportunity to destroy some of the Strike Team before rushing for the third patrol and evading said Strike Team.
The third party was at Greenwich, just down the street from Dana's Safehouse.
Again, Jason hijacks a tank and destroys the UAVs and the other tank before heading for the fourth patrol.
He destroyed them in the same manner as the second patrol along with some of the foot soldiers before noticing the fifth patrol was nearing Dana's location.
Rushing there, he made his way to the final patrol that was practically outside of Dana's Safehouse and began decimating them before they could lock-on to the apartment.
Soon though, three more patrols were launched to finish the mission.
"Seriously?", Jason groans in exacerbation before running for the nearest one down the road near Central Park.
He utterly destroys the Copter, tank and UAV with his Hammerfists before moving onto the one in nouth Midtown West.
First, he destroys this patrol's two UAVs before using Groundspike to target the two tanks without civilian casualties. Jason then headed for the patrol in the south of the Upper West Side.
Once there. Jason destroys the remaining UAV before using his new Musclemass to use the tanks as a punching bag, while they didn't cause as much damage as the Hammerfist, they did cause less collateral damage.. And with the tanks destruction, the final patrol for Dana was stopped.
"Damn, that was fucking tiring", Jason says, not even winded, "I need a small break
Day 6 of Infection, 20% of the Population Infected
Jason some time completing more events and further evolved his powers while Dana looked for more information. One of the events finally allowed Jason to test out the Whipfist, gotta love the Street Sweeper attack, it allows him to take on swarms of enemies at once.
Jason even took the time to destroy some Hives in an attempt to slow the spread of the infection. Hive destruction was easy with the use of Artillery Strikes, God Bless Artillery Strikes, as long as they're not aimed at him. However, he learns that after each use, he needs to consume another commander to use another strike.
He also may have destroyed a military base due to them amassing dangerous forces, and due to the fact Jason has found out they have done some heinous shit, he wasn't letting them have more of a foothold in the city just like he wasn't for the infected.
But most of the time, he was helping them against the infected. Which was confusing for many.
While running around he also consumed Lt Neil Inglis, getting information about the Idaho incident and now, how it was connected in someway.
He then headed for Dana again. However, before heading inside to meet with her, jason noticed something,
'A network of detectors,' Jason thought to himself, 'If they can track me, they can track Dana',
Jason then goes to the nearest stationary detector on a roof across the street. Using his fists to destroy it before drawing Blackwatch's attention away from Dana as he moved to the west to destroy another Viral Detector.
After doing that and defeating the surrounding Blackwatch soldiers. Jason notices eight more detectors south of there.
'I'll admit they are persistent, and a pain in my ass', Jason thinks about the situation before traversing to the other locations nearby. He destroyed the eight detectors concentrated in those eight blocks and kept attention away from Dana's location. Mission success in his opinion
Blackwatch HQ, Red Crown command, Battery Park.
"... at the Gentek building in mid-town Manhattan. What was initially thought to be a chemical spill was actually a biological attack on the city", Randall, Cross, and McMullen heard from the news on the laptop, "Authorities have names Dr. Alex Mercer a the chief suspect...", the broadcast was cut off as Randall shut the laptop.
"Sir?", Cross inquires of the General.
"At ease, Captain.", Randall eases Cross before standing up from his chair, "Director McMullen, share your data with the Captain. Perhaps it will help him complete his mission".
"The Prototype... or Red Hood as some have said, rebuilds on a cellular level -- a shapeshifter, beyond beyond those martians or the green animal lover.", McMullen explains, "We've used the DNA sample you recovered to synthesize a pathogen. Inside the Prototype, the pathogen will generate a possible cure."
"Do you understand your mission", General Randall asked the Captain.
"I am to inject the weapon into the target, Red Hood, and bring him", Cross replies, "Sir, with respect: all indications are that he...", but he is cut off by Randall grabbing his arm with extreme aggression.
"The Prototype isn't a he, it's an IT!", Randall exclaims before releasing Cross, "I will debrief you when you complete your mission. Dismissed".
Cross nods and leaves with the device.
"The Captain always did have difficulty seeing the bigger picture...", Randall comments before moving file saying, Tactical Nuclear Weapons Protocols.
"And what of the Justice League and their ilk?", McMullen asks the General.
"Busy from what a hear", Randall replys, "Apparently some members split off into their own team and they are scrambling around. But it won't be long till they get involved".
Back with Jason
Jason had come across another member of the Web of Intrigue, Cptn Emil Zurta. His memories were of a meeting about Hives. Things he pretty much already knew but were a little bit useful.
Jason then infiltrated a military base to increase is skills after the hassle of protecting Dana. While there, he found another Web member, 1st Lt Nathan Talbot. his memories showed the containment of Manhattan nothing on or off, breaking this would get them killed.
After leaving the base, he found Dr. William D. Weber (no, he's not from One Piece). His memories talked about Jason's escaped and what he was infected with, a variant of the Blacklight virus, DX-1118
Then Jason consumed Dr. howard Leonhardt, who talked about using MOTHER aka Elizabeth Greene's DNA from when she was held captive to use against Jason and his virus.
Next was Dr, Harris Widgeir, he was with McMullen and talked about Jason's abilities, wanting him and a slab and seeing what made him tick.
He then went on to destroy another Hive where his strength increased to be able to grapple with Hunters without Musclemass along with his vitality, before heading back to Dana to actually complete what he was planning to earlier.
Dana's Safehouse
"Hey", Dana greets him before laying in what shes learned, "I think I might be able to get you close to McMullen. The news has been showing Blackwatch Scientific Teams turning up at Hives. Those team HAVE to be working for McMullen, right? If they are, then one of them has got to know how to get to him. Get into one of those areas and draw McMullen in".
"McMullen may be the key we need", Jason comments before heading out.
Outside, Jason headed for a Hive near Soho, 'I need to draw out McMullen, but how?'.
On the way Jason consumed Gerald Burgess, a Marine talking about how they are being forced to work under Blackwatch and how they were fighting in one of two kinds of war they don't want to be in, the other is nuclear.
Jason proceeded to head south for the Hive to draw out McMullen, landing on a building near the Hive.
He scoped the area to see it in chaos as Hunters and infected fought the military, "I hope McMullen isn't in that mess", he can't consume him for information if he's dead. he went about looking for a commander in this mess, consuming him to get info.
It was Cptn Derrick Kaufman he consumed, he shows Jason how McMullen won't touchdown into an area till the detectors sound that the area has no infected.
Jason leaves the Hive in Soho, since McMullen certainly won't come here anytime soon, for the one in Chinatown to check it's activity level.
Arriving and a roof top a north of the Hive, across the street, Jason surveyed it and saw that it was pretty secure.
'McMullen will only land if these sensors tell him its safe", Jason plans, 'I need to disable them so they don't detect me.'
Taking the guise of a soldier and began sabotaging the four sensors stationed around the block. He needs to be careful, cause screwing up will lead to him being discovered and botch his mission to get McMullen. he could hear mcMullen over the radio commenting about infection
levels dropping as Jason messed with the Viral Detectors. Once he was done with the fourth one, he went to give McMullen the all clear.
"Sites clear sir", jaason says as a commander with a different voice, "What's your ETA?"
"Ok, people -- we're clean across the board. McMullen inbound", McMullen announces to the Blackwatch soldiers at the site. Helicopters flew in with McMullen on one of them, which goes to land. However, the Hive begins acting up, spooking McMullen who looks to Jason before he signals the pilot to fly away.
"Dammit", Jason grunts at the lost of McMullen as he is soon surrounded by infected, "McMullen's gone. Son of a bitch!". jason vacates the area before he did something he may regret.
He would then do somethings around the city to relive some stress, some events and Hive destruction.
Jason would to find more members of the Web of Intrigue for information, eventually finding James Lyon, who revealed that Jason was vulnerable when absorbing or unlocking memories along with creating lies to Jason, with a flash a Karen Parker. Better keep more of an eye on her.
He also consumed Dr. Rustle Lee. his memories talked about how Greene wasn't infected naturally, that it was an experiment, along with a conspiracy or cover-up involved that he wanted to investigate. Lee might have been one of the good ones, 'Dammit'.
He then consumes Dr Sean Walker, with memories showing how MOTHER, Greene, was incarcerated for 39 years with no change to her body, that she was unaging. 'well damn', Jason thought, would he also be unaging is the question.
Jason also learns something while fighting in the red zones. Consuming infected only revitalize him, he can't assume their forms, neither pre nor post infection, nor could he obtain their memories for they have no minds. They are truly dead and can't be cured through normal means.
Jason soon decided to head for Karen Parker's Lab to check on her progress, mentally preparing for possible betrayal.
Karen Parker's Lab
He arrives to Karen having a task for him.
"Those samples you recovered; i still don't have enough, she states as Jason looked at her
with slight suspicion, "I need you to actually go inside a Hive. The substance at the center, the material the virus is producing I think it's the key.", she seems to be looking anywhere but him, "With it, I think I can reverse the effects of the virus."
"Let's just cure this thing", Jason responds.
Jason then left for a Hive to collect the material, missing her say, "for what it's worth, I'm sorry it had to play out like this."
Outside, in Manhattan
'Center of a Hive, huh', Jason thinks, 'the closest one is in the Upper East Side, right next to Central Park.'
Jason than traverses through Central park, directly to the Hive in question. once there he sees a few lights aimed directly through a skylight into the Hive.
"This is a trap, isn't it?", Jason asks himself. He then sighs and enters the Hive.
Within the Hive
The Hive was one big room covered in fleshy red virus material, sacs housing hunters or other infected were on the walls. Jason landed into this horrid place and began to collect genetic materials, just in case.
"Red Hood!", before long, Captain Cross descends into the Hive via the skylight, "You're a hard man to find", he unhooks his harness and pulls out a stun baton, "I've been looking forward to this."
"Who are you? Who sent you?", Jason demanded of the man before him.
"You should pick your friends more carefully", Cross responded.
"Ah! I knew that Karen Parker would be the one to sell me out.", Jason tells him, "she had no reason to help me", before Jason engaged in combat with the Specialist.
Cross launched grenade from his wrist mount to keep Jason at a distance. Jasn used the groundspikes to hit Cross from a distance but would get in close with his shield to use melee strikes with his Claws, to which Cross would whip out his stun baton to whack Jason and gain distance.
"Looks like some of your friends want to come out and play", Cross taunts before grappling up
to the ceiling before infected burst out of the sacs on the walls.
They started to surround Jason, but he quickly used his Whipfist to quickly bifurcate them.
"Always a reckless bundle of energy. Like your afraid that at any minute you're going to burn out", Cross taunts as he rejoins the fray. Jason charges up a Whipfist stab to hit him at a distance while dealing major damage, which it does.
"AAGH!", Cross yells before he launches a grenade barrage at Jason that he shields and dodges, but he's still got some damage from it.
"Fuck this", Jason then unleashes a Tendril Barrage Devastator on him. Cross is hit, but somehow survives.
"Fire Team! On Me!", Cross calls out. Soon after, Blackwatch soldiers descend from th skylight just like Cross did.
"McMullen wants ou on a slab, so that's what he gets", Cross tells Jason as hs men open fire on him.
Jason used his Whipfist to swipe at the men, consuming some to regain his vitality. He then stole one of their AR guns to shoot at Cross.
Cross gets knocked down, "Fuck! Pull Out!", he calls to his men before going to grapple through the skylight himself. As he does, Jason jumped on him, hitching a ride to the roof.
Cross is soon crawling away on the roof as Jason walks him down, "You think you've won, Hood? you don't even know what fucking game you're playing", Cross stealthy pulls out a syringe, "Well I can tell you all you need to know about Penn Station".
The mention of Penn Station sent Jason into a painful state as he fell to his knees, visions of men chasing someone through the station with a vial raised in the air.
Cross gets to his feet behind Jason, the syringe at the ready, "In a way... I feel sorry for you", before jamming the syringe into Jason's right shoulder blade, sending Jason to the ground as he was injected with whatever it was.
Cross turns as he talks into his radio, "The Prototype is down. Bring in the containment device", he then turns back to Jason, only to see he pulled a Batman and disappeared.

AN: This might come out faster than other story chapters for now due to me playing the first game at this time.
I am trying to avoid the Justice League for as much as possible right now but they may appear during the next chapter or the one after that.
