Upon entering Lavender Tower, John and Ash looked around and could tell there were spirits there. John smiled as he said, "We can get some good Ghost Pokémon here." Ash smiled and said, "I agree bro." John then looked at him and said, "Don't think I didn't see the time you and Pikachu were technically dead." Ash sweatdropped and said, "You know Pokémon." John nodded his head and said, "Yeah, I do." Ash then said, "Well the tower here should have plenty of Ghost Pokémon that appear at night." John called out Zubat, Pawmo, Litleo, and Saillil. Ash looked at John and he asked, "Why these five?" John looked at him and said, "these five are in need of some experience so why not?" Ash chuckled in agreement before sending out Fleetwi and Shieldon too.
As they ascended the tower, several Ghost type Pokémon appeared and the two got to work. John had Zubat use Supersonic to disorient the Ghost type Pokémon while the other pokémon used effective moves on them, the Pokémon all leveled up quickly, which allowed Zubat to evolve into Golbat while learning Air Cutter, Rattata into Raticate and learned Scary Face, Fleetwi was able to learn Flamethrower and Peck. Shieldon was able to learn Iron Head and Saillil learned Water Pulse and Bite. John and Ash all smiled as their Pokémon all gained levels and evolved, Ash was even able to catch a Honedge. Soon they reached the top and the group saw a chest sitting on a seat. John felt a presence take over him as he walked up to the chest.
"Bro? You good?" Ash asked John as he got closer to the chest. Stopping in front of the chest. John jumped backwards right as the chest shot a Shadow Ball. John slid backwards as he pulled out his Pokédex and scanned the chest, the Pokédex said, "Gimmighoul, the Coin Chest Pokémon, chest form. A ghost type, This Pokémon was born inside a treasure chest about 1,500 years ago. It sucks the life-force out of scoundrels who try to steal the treasure. This is a Genderless Pokémon and it knows Shadow Ball, Astonish, Night shade and Power Gem. John put his Pokédex away and smirked before telling Golbat to use Pursuit followed by Air Cutter followed by Bite.
"RIGHT!" shouted Golbat as he used Pursuit followed by Air Cutter followed by Bite. Gimmighoul was struck by all three attacks and slammed into the wall. Gimmighoul then shot another Shadow Ball. John shouted, "USE AIR CUTTER TO COMBAT THE SHADOW BALL!" John then shouted, "NOW PAWMO! THUNDER FANG!" Pawmo jumped on Gimmighoul from behind and used a point blank thunder fang. Ash was shocked as he didn't even notice that Pawmo was missing from their spot. John then pulled out a Pokéball and shouted, "POKÉBALL! GO!" as he threw a Pokéball at Gimmighoul. Pawmo jumped off and the Pokéball struck Gimmighoul making it go inside the Pokéball. After three shakes and a Ding, John caught himself a Gimmighoul. Picking the Pokéball up, John smiled as he said, "Wouldn't hurt to have extra ghost pokémon." Ash nodded his head and said, "Right. Well let's get going." John nodded and they exited the tower.
Walking along the route connecting Saffron City to Lavender Town, John looked at the badges he had collected up to now. Ash smiled as John said, "I can't believe that I got five badges already. THIS IS SO AWESOME!" Ash laughed as Pikachu said, "Bring a fan into the Pokémon world suddenly he's living the dream." John shot Pikachu a glare before he said, "Oh hey. I'm gonna do some more training, tell Sabrina I'll be ready to battle when I arrive." Ash nodded his head and said, "ok, just be careful." John nodded his head and the two shook hands before John walked off into the woods as Ash headed to Saffron City.
In Saffron City, Ash walked into the Pokémon center and saw the girls. Gloria saw him and said, "Ash! How was Lavender Town? Where's John at?" Ash sat with them and said, "John's doing some more training before he faces Sabrina." That was when a Haunter appeared beside him. Scaring Kiki to hide behind Dawn. Ash looked and was shocked as it was the Haunter that traveled with him on his journey. He petted the haunter as Sabrina walked up to them and she said, "Hello everyone. Ash, is your brother ready?" Ash sweatdropped and said, "He will be. He's doing a bit more training before he comes here." Sabrina nodded her head and said, "I see. That reminds me of another trainer who always trains before a gym."
"Same here." Dawn said. Ash chuckled as Gloria clenched her fists. Later, Ash was showing the girls the Pokémon he caught. Dawn was shocked at Fleetwi as Kiki hugged it. Gloria scanned Honedge with her Pokédex and it read, "Honedge, the Sword Pokémon. A Steel and Ghost type, Apparently this Pokémon is born when a departed spirit inhabits a sword. It attaches itself to people and drinks their life force. This Honedge is a male and knows Aerial Ace, Night Slash, Iron Defense, and Iron Head; it has been caught by trainer Ash Ketchum."
"EEP!" Shouted Kiki as she hid behind Dawn. Ash sweatdropped and said, "Sorry Kiki, didn't mean for you to get scared." Kiki told him that it was fine before seeing John walking up to them. Sabrina saw him too and walked up to him. She then said, "Ready for our battle?" John nodded his head and said, "I am, let me heal up my pokémon before we begin." Sabrina nodded her head and said, "I'll be waiting in the gym." John nodded his head as before he walked into the Pokémon Center to let his pokémon heal up. Ash and Dawn walked up to him and Ash asked, "How did the training go?"
"Perfect, my pokémon team is ready to defeat Sabrina's Pokémon." John said with a smile. Ash reminded him that Sabrina uses Psychic type Pokémon so he couldn't hear what moves she called out. John nodded his head and said, "I'm prepared for that." Ash and Dawn worried John might be over his head a bit as his Pokémon were returned to him. John took them and walked with Ash and Dawn to the Gym. inside, John stood where he was supposed to stand as he saw Sabrina walk into her spot. The referee then said, "The battle between Sabrina the Gym Leader and John the challenger will now begin. Each side will use four pokémon each and the battle will be over when all of either side's Pokémon are unable to continue. Substitutions are allowed. Trainers, send out your Pokémon." Sabrina sent out her Mr. Mime, but it was a Galarian Mr. Mime. Dawn scanned it and her Pokédex Said, "Mr. Mime, Galarian form, the Dancing Pokémon. A Ice and Psychic type, It can radiate chilliness from the bottoms of its feet. It'll spend the whole day tap-dancing on a frozen floor. This Mr. Mime is a male and knows Psychic, Icicle Spear, Light Screen, and Freeze Dry. This Mr. Mime has been caught by Gym Leader Sabrina"
"A Galarian Mr. Mime, interesting. I wonder how John will react." Gloria said as she watched. John pressed a Pokéball open and said, "Ok, show time buddy. I'm going with you first. Go, TORTERRA!" and out came a Pokémon that looked like a Torterra but instead of a tree, a antenna tower was on its back, with wires leading to the three spikes on its back, its lower Jaw was made of metal. Gloria scanned Torterra and her Pokédex read, "Torterra, Truven Form, the Electric Turtle Pokémon. A Grass and Electric type, Torterra in the Truven Region are known to provide Electricity to whole towns and villages. This Torterra is a male and knows Thunder, Electric Leaf, Electric Drive, and Energy Ball. This Torterra was caught by trainer John." Ash stood up and shouted, "YOUR GROTLE EVOLVED?!" John nodded his head and said, "Yup, the training helped it evolve."
"Battle begin!" Shouted the referee. Sabrina used her psychic power to telepathically tell Mr. Mime to use Icicle Spear. John expected as much and shouted, "TORTERRA, USE ELECTRIC LEAF! FOLLOWED BY ELECTRIC DRIVE!" Torterra nodded and shot Electric Leaf at the Icicle spear, then he used Electric Drive. Checking her pokédex, Dawn told the others, "Apparently Electric Drive allows a pokémon to get not only a boost to its speed, but it powers up its attack stats for any other electric type moves." Ash looked and said, "That's my bro for you." when the moves struck in the middle, it created a black smoke that covered the field. John then told Torterra, "Now use Electric Energy Ball!" Torterra nodded and shot an Energy Ball before using Thunder on it. The electrified Energy Ball struck Sabrina's Galarian Mr. Mime hard. Mr. Mime slid backwards after taking major damage.
"Such power. Impressive attack John." Sabrina said before telling her Mr. Mime through Telepathy, "Use Psychic." Mr. Mime used Psychic on Torterra but it did some damage to him. John then shouted, "USE THUNDER!" Torterra used Thunder and scored a direct hit on Mr. Mime, causing it to faint. Sabrina was shocked at how quickly her first Pokémon was taken out. But she focused on the situation at hand and recalled Mr. Mime before she sent out Slowbro. Gloria then scanned Slowbro and her Pokédex read, "Slowbro, Kanto form, the Hermit Crab Pokémon. A Water and Psychic, When a Slowpoke went hunting in the sea, its tail was bitten by a Shellder. That made it evolve into Slowbro. This Slowbro is a female and knows Psychic, Yawn, Surf, and Calm Mind. This Slowbro has been caught by Gym Leader Sabrina."
"Torterra, return." John said as he recalled Torterra. He then sent out Pawmo. John then made the first move and he said, "Wild Charge into Arm Thrust!" Pawmo nodded and charged forward using Wild Charge. Striking a direct hit on Slowbro, then it was followed by a not very effective Arm thrust, but it still did damage to her. Sabrina then telepathically told Slowbro to use Calm Mind followed by Surf. Slowbro obeyed and used Clam Mind before sending a Surf at Pawmo. John told Pawmo to jump to avoid the Suf and followed it with a Thunder Fang. Pawmo jumped and charged at Slowbro before Sabrina told Slowbro, "Psychic!" Slowbro used Psychic and she caught Pawmo before slamming the Mouse Pokémon around, dealing damage to her. Slowbro then shot Pawmo into the wall and there was a dust cloud. When the Dust settled, John saw Pawmo was not moving and swirls were in its eyes. John recalled his fainted Pokémon and said, "good try Pawmo." John then sent out Gimmighoul. Kiki looked at Gimmighoul and said, "it's cute."
"It's a ghost type." Ash pointed out, making Kiki sweatdrop. John then shouted, "SHADOW BALL RAPID FIRE!" Gimmighoul obeyed and shot rapid Fire Shadow Ball. Slowbro was then told to use Psychic to stop them, but the sheer amount was too much for her. Sabrina was now down two Pokémon to John's one. She recalled Slowbro and sent out Jynx. When Gloria scanned Jynx with her Pokédex, it showed that Jynx knew Psychic, Lovely Kiss, and Ice Punch. Dawn looked at the battlefield and said, "John knows what he's doing." John recalled Gimmighoul and thought, 'With Torterra, Pawmo being out, and now Gimmighoul, I need to pick my last pokémon carefully. Luckily I know who to send out' John pulled out another Pokéball and shouted, "GO PYROAR!" and out came a Male Pyroar.
"John got Litleo to evolve too!" Ash said in astonishment. Kiki puffed her cheek and said, "Litleo was cuter." Pyroar heard that and sweatdropped before Dawn scanned Pyroar and her Pokédex read, "Pyroar, the Royal Pokémon. A Fire and Normal type, The mane of a male Pyroar heats up to over 3,600 degrees Fahrenheit during battle. Merely approaching it will cause severe burns. This Pyroar is a Male and knows Flamethrower, Flaming Tail, Bite, and Dark Pulse. This Pyroar has been caught by Trainer John.
"Starting off Strong with Flaming Dark Pulse!" Shouted John. Pyroar nodded and was able to shoot a Dark pulse after using Flamethrower to do quad Damage to Jynx. When the combo move struck Jynx, it created a big smoke cloud, and when the dust settled, Jynx was down for the count. Sabrina recalled Jynx and said to John, "I must say John, I never expected a Gym battle with the brother of Ash to be so difficult. You've shown new Pokémon to me and made moves that I never heard of before." John smiled and said, "Well after my last gym battle with Koga, I knew I would be facing you next so I wanted to make sure my team was ready to go. We all trained hard, and even had my Grotle and Litleo evolve into the Torterra and Pyroar you've seen."
"I see. In that case, time for my final Pokémon. Alakazam, I need your help!" Sabrina said as she threw the last Pokémon on her team. John knew that her Alakazam might know Psychic and Night Shade, but he was shocked to see a Mega Stone on Alakazam. Sabrina then said, "Our minds and powers linked as one. Alakazam, MEGA EVOLVE!" and after a glowing light, Alakazam was now Mega Alakazam. Dawn scanned the Alakazam and said, "it knows Psychic, Night Shade, Psychic Terrain, and Drain Punch." Ash looked at Pyroar and said to the girls, "Pyroar is gonna have a rough time if a single Drain Punch lands on it."
"OK Pyroar, we can't let Drain Punch land on you." John said as Sabrina shouted, "NIGHT SHADE!" Alakazam shot a Night Shade at Pyroar to which John shouted, "DODGE THEN USE DARK PULSE!" Pyroar jumped to dodge and fired a Dark Pulse at Alakazam. Sabrina shouted, "USE PSYCHIC TO BLOCK THE DARK PULSE!" Alakazam used Psychic and successfully blocked the Dark Pulse before sending it back to Pyroar. Getting a hit on him with it, Sabrina then said, "Drain Punch!" Right as Alakazam was about to land the Drain punch, John shouted, "NOW PYROAR!" Pyroar opened his eyes with determination and shot a point blank Flamethrower. Sending Alakazam backwards and into the wall. Sabrina looked behind her and saw that her Alakazam was out of Mega evolved mode and out cold. The referee then said, "Alakazam is unable to continue, The winner is Pyroar. All of Gym Leader Sabrina's Pokémon are unable to battle, which means the victory goes to John of Pallet Town!"
"OH YEAH!" John shouted as Pyroar jumped in his arms and cheered with him. Ash, Gloria, Dawn, and Kiki all sighed in relief. After helping her Alakazam up, Sabrina walked up to John and said, "I must say, that was an impressive battle. I am proud to have battled you." She then gave John his next badge, the Marsh Badge. John called out all his Pokémon that he used in the battle and shouted, "WE GOT… THE MARSH BADGE!" The four Pokémon cheered with him. Kiki ran down and hopped on Pyroar's back and said, "You were cute as Litleo, but you're SO FLUFFY AS PYROAR!" Pyroar smiled as Ash, Dawn, and Gloria walked up to john. Dawn kissed John's cheek.
Sabrina then showed John and the others the entrance to the vault that her Alakzam was guarding, it was an old Fortune teller booth. Soon Dawn's hand began to glow alongside John's hand. Walking to the booth, the design on the booth shifted to reveal two hands for them, putting their hands on the spot, they got teleported away. Arriving at the vault, John and Dawn were greeted by Tapu Koko and Tapu Fini, the Island deities of Melemele Island and Poni Island in the Alola Region. John smiled as Tapu Koko approached him and said, "Greetings Champion of the other World, we have been expecting you." John nodded his head as Tapu Fini said, "We have been watching you and have chosen you two to wield us in battle. Though in a shiny spirit form." Dawn nodded her head and said, "Of course, your main duty is to the Islands." Tapu Koko and Tapu Fini both nodded their heads as two special Pokéballs in the colors of their masks floated towards the couple. John and Dawn took the Pokéballs and smiled before John said, "We won't let you down."
"That's a promise." Dawn said before they got teleported back to the others, they showed the Pokéballs and Ash said, "Damn, you guys are lucky." John and Dawn smiled at each other and nodded at their friends. Sabrina then said, "Your next stop should be Cinnabar Island." John smiled and said, "Of course, next stop, the next Gym badge." Ash, Dawn, Gloria, and Kiki all smiled at John as he was happy with his Pokémon. Meanwhile, Team Hell tied up the Gym leader of the Cinnabar Island Gym as Kenny took his place as the gym leader. Kenny smiled and said, "Come on John, I know you want this badge next."
