[Day 130]
Bella was brutal, the sting of losing people she had cared about weighed heavy on her. Even if she hadn't known Jim or Hanson or even Frank, long….she still cared about them, and Rick was the reason why all of this was happening. She felt herself spiraling and she knew she needed to stop, but she couldn't stop. Not until Rick was dead. Not until she destroyed him and whoever else was following his lead willingly.
Bella tapped the ground with the head of her crossbow as she looked at the four men they captured. Two of them had a W carved into their foreheads, one guy was Hispanic looking, strong, but small. The other man had red hair, a matching goatee and Bella recalled seeing him in town with Jasper and Glenn before.
Daryl, Hopper, and Townsend were with her and that's all she needed to take down the four bandits they caught trying to get back into Hilltop. They were outside the walls of Hilltop to shield the children from having to witness anything too dangerous and brutal.
"Where's Rick?" Bella asked, breaking the silence. The four men were kneeling, their hands tied behind their backs.
"Go to Hell." The red head spoke, spitting in Bella's direction.
Bella nodded and lifted her bow and rested it on her shoulder. "I'm not a patient person." She said and then she shot her bow and her arrow went through the skull of one of the men with a W in their forehead. He slumped forwards, hitting the ground with a disgusting thud. She didn't even look in his direction. Her blue eyes searing into the red head's matching blue eyes. "Where's Rick? I know he's not in Alexandria."
"Because there's a fucking traitor." The red head spoke again.
Bella moved closer to the red head, reached down and ripping the dog tags that hung around his neck and looked at him. "Either you stole these, or your name is Abraham Ford." She said, tossing the tags to Daryl and he caught them. "So, Abraham. How loyal are you to Rick? I've heard your name in passing, but putting a name with a face makes it easier."
"Go to Hell cunt." Abraham spat again.
Daryl started forward but Bella stopped him. She took her machete out and sliced it across the other man with the W on his forehead, throat. He gurgled, blood spewing everywhere and the man fell forward and hit the ground beside the other man, a gushing gurgling sound as the last bit of the man's lifeforce slipped away.
"Do you think I care if you kill those guys?" Abraham challenged. "I'll only talk to Negan."
"I am Negan." Bella barked back, getting down in Abraham's face. "I really don't care whether you live or die. I will find Rick and I will kill him. I gave you the chance to save yourself, but it seems you're just a coward."
"I'm the coward? You're killing people for no reason, stealing food from children and women and-"
"Oh am I?" Bella cut Abraham off. "Seems to me you're following the word of a mad man. Hopper, am I stealing anything from Hilltop?"
"No ma'am." Hopper said.
"Of course he'll side with you, he's one of your lackeys." Abraham growled.
Bella nodded and looked at the hispanic guy. "What about you? You as stupid as he is?" She asked tilting her bow at Abraham as she stood in a casual stance.
The man shook his head. "I'm not really affiliated with Rick. I serve the Governor."
"The Governor?" Bella raised a brow. "Does this Governor have a name?"
The man shook his head. "No. That's just what everyone calls him."
"You were caught with these three. You had to make some sort of deal."
The man nodded. "Yes, for food and supplies. My name is Martinez. I'll show you the secret meeting spot."
"You mother fucker." Abraham growled out, but Bella hit him in the face with the but of her crossbow, busting his nose and knocking him out.
"Alright Martinez. I'll deal with you. Take me to the secret meeting spot, I'll let you go." Bella said with a nod and then motioned for Hopper and Townsend to pick Abraham up. "He comes with us. Put him in the cell back at the compound. Daryl, take our new friend into Hilltop, feed him, give him water." She ordered.
Daryl moved and grabbed Martinez, dragging him to his feet. "Let's go." He muttered at the man and pushed him towards the gates.
Bella pulled the walkie talkie from her hip and pushed the button on the side. "Negan."
"Yes sweetheart?"
"We've got a man willing to take us to a secret meeting location. I don't trust him. I have Hopper and Townsend bringing Abraham Ford to lock up. For safe keeping of course. He's Rick's right hand man, so we'll see how far Rick goes to get him back if good ol' Abe is important to him. Daryl is bringing the other man, Martinez to Hilltop to feed him, water. What do you want to do next?"
There was a pause. "Damn sweetheart, you managed to take two people?"
"Four, but the other two…were annoying. Wolves, praise God or some shit." Bella said and heard Negan's chuckle on the walkie.
"Alright. Go to the rendezvous meetup in Glencoe. Jasper and Glenn should be making their arrival there soon." Negan said.
"Copy." Bella said and then walked up towards the gates to Hilltop to get someone to stay with Martinez while her and Daryl went to the rendezvous point.
[Rendezvous Point: Glencoe]
Bella and Daryl pulled up at the house. She turned the truck off and Daryl reached over and pulled her against him, his mouth connecting with hers. The last few days had been hard for both of them. She was lashing out and spiraling, and he was letting her. He let her use him for sexual pleasure, and that part was on him. He didn't know what to do or say to her when she was like this. This was a whole new side to her, but he was hoping that he could bring her back to her senses. So he planted a kiss on her, breaking the dominance cycle because she was always so dominant with him.
Bella kissed Daryl back but brought her hand up to put on his chest. "What?"
"I just felt like kissing you." Daryl muttered, looking away, his heart racing just a little.
Bella nodded. "Alright. Well, we have work to do, reel it in." She said and patted his chest and opened the door and hopped out. She fired her crossbow at a walker and it dropped instantly. She retrieved her arrow and walked up to the house. She found Glenn and Jasper inside, eating tuna and some crackers they found. "So, been here a while?"
"Not too long." Glenn said. "How's Mags and Beth?" He was always checking on Maggie and Beth. They were separated right now.
"They're fine. Spence and Alice okay?" Bella asked.
"Yeah, keeping up appearances. Spencer is trying to talk to his mom. She's been depressed since Reg." Jasper said and handed Bella a cracker with tuna on it. She took it and popped it in her mouth.
Bella nodded. "Well, Abraham knows someone's a traitor. He doesn't know who or at least…I didn't give him time to tell me."
"You killed him?" Glenn was a little shocked.
"No, knocked him out. He's in our lock up." Bella said. "The two wolves with him were put out of their misery. Got a guy, Martinez, that is supposed to show us a secret meeting spot. Said he serves a man called the Governor."
Jasper nodded. "Yeah, that psycho. He's…essentric to say the least. Small town like Alexandria, about a 150 miles towards North Carolina, South of Alexandria. Still Virginia, but they call it Woodbury."
"So probably like… three hour drive?"
"Hmmm four. There's a lot of abandoned cars in the way." Jasper said. "I have been there one time. I was with Abe, Rick, Glenn, and this guy Tyrese, but he died a while back."
Bella ate another cracker with tuna. "You said this Governor…he's a character?"
"Yeah, him and Rick clashed a little, but I think they came to an understanding somehow. Martinez, he's hispanic right?"
"Yeah," Bella said with a nod. "Very quickly gave up Rick. His loyalty lies with the Governor."
Glenn shifted a little, leaning against the counter. "Yeah, he's prickly too. Has bad manners. I'm surprised he easily gave up information without torture."
"I don't think he wants to go down on a sinking ship." Daryl commented. He fist bumped Jasper as he approached, catching part of the conversation. He was making sure the other walkers outside didn't get too close, so he took out a few before coming inside.
"True. Rick is a loss. But there's some meeting spot that Martinez claims he knows about."
Jasper crossed his arms, in thought. "Rick goes off by himself a lot of times. If he's meeting with the Governor's crew secretly, then maybe it is worth using Martinez to lure Rick out. He comes and goes from Alexandria. Right now, I have convinced Jessie and her two boys, this girl Olivia, and Denise and a few others, that Rick is unstable. I don't want to lose the integrity of Alexandria. We have houses, working water and electricity. Everything is hooked to a solar panel system and we have other children there. Other families. Deanne Monroe did a great job establishing it early on, and Negan's help with the blockade, keeps biters from getting too close to the walls. We have visibility from the tops since there were platforms that overlook the entrance. We have safety, but…" Jasper shook his head. "I'm afraid for the other families and children that I can't get out of there. If something bad goes down Bella. Rick will take it all down with him. He won't care about the integrity of those walls. He will fight you and Negan until his last breath."
"Which is why we're not rolling into Alexandria and taking the place." Bella said, eating another cracker. "We're not monsters. We don't want to see the innocent hurt because of Rick. We are trying our best to catch him outside those walls. But for a man that has lost his mind, he sure is talented at being stealthy."
"He was a cop." Glenn said. "Sheriff back in Georgia." He explained.
Bella blew out a breath. "That might explain it and he had Abe. Who was Army." She sighed. "Alright. What do you guys think?"
"Once I have everyone on our side. There are still some others that I have to convince. Carol, she's dangerous with any weapon. I really don't want to go up against her. She lost her daughter back in Georgia when we found Maggie and Beth and her family. Farm got overrun but Sophia didn't make it. Carol spiraled…she's not quite the same. Then there's Rosita and Bob. They're not bad people. Rosita and Abe had a thing at one point, but…Abe is an asshole like Rick, so that didn't last. Sasha is dangerous with a gun. Military trained, or in the very least she's experienced with a gun. Tyrese was her brother, so she's still not quite recovered from that. Eugene will follow anyone who has the bigger guns. He's the brains. Really really smart, can do anything with anything and he's good with explosives." Jasper explained, going through the roster of people. "So, I have work to do. I don't want to sway them to Rick's side more, I have to carefully get them ready for the possibility of ruin if Rick decides to try and take Alexandria down with him."
Bella scratched her chin a little, thinking. "Take Daryl to Alexandria with you."
"What?" All three men said at one time.
"Think about it. Rick hasn't seen Daryl, and that one guy you told me about…Aaron? He recruits people for Alexandria all the time."
Jasper thought about it. "I mean yeah…that's true."
"Is Aaron on your side?" Bella asked Jasper.
"Yeah, he's not fond of Rick since Rick got his husband, Eric, killed." Jasper said. "What is the plan with that?"
"Take Daryl to Alexandria. We need to convince more people. Daryl…can be convincing."
"I can?" Daryl looked at her, confused. "What am I supposed to do?"
"Talk about a group called the Saviors. Has Rick tried to poison the entire town?"
Glenn shook his head. "Not everyone is part of the circle. The only ones that matter are the ones from Georgia originially and there's not many of us left. Jasper, me, Maggie and Beth. Carol…Alice and then Abe, Rosita, and Eugene. Sasha and Bob came once in Virginia. We have picked up random people along the way, but they have died, or they left a long time ago."
"Alright. So the other ones. Who's left that isn't really aware of Rick's paranoia?" Bella asked.
"Some of the Alexandrians. Heath, Scott, Miles." Jasper said. "There's 67 souls in Alexandria Bella. Not all of them are aware of Rick's crazy. That is why I want to keep this low. If Rick suspects someone is a traitor…"
"What about Maggie and Beth. He hasn't asked about them?" Bella asked Glenn.
"I told Rick that they went South to look for a friend of theirs that they want to bring back to Alexandria for safety. He didn't seem to care either way." Glenn said.
Bella nodded. "Alright. So Daryl goes back with you guys. He'll help convince the others that the Saviors aren't a terrorist group. We are stronger in numbers. We'll get Alexandria flipped and we'll lure Rick out. Take him down. We need more people on our side before that happens. If you think any of the others are too loyal to Rick, I need to know so I can take them out too."
Jasper was quiet for a moment, looking at Glenn. He nodded and looked back at Bella. "Carol."
"Carol it is." Bella said. "Get me a picture or a description."
"I'll get you a picture." Jasper said. "We have polaroid's still."
"It's a plan." Bella said and looked at Daryl. "Be careful. Stay with Jasper, Glenn, or Spence. We need to do this smoothly without a war. There are too many children and families that are bystanders in this."
Daryl nodded, and grabbed her hand and squeezed it. "What about you?"
"I'll be okay."
"We haven't been apart since we found each other again." Daryl was worried.
"I'm going to be okay Daryl. I'm not disappearing. This is a mission. We have no choice."
"There's always a choice." Daryl murmured and then kissed her cheek. "Please be careful."
Bella just nodded and watched the three men saddle up and go out to the suv that Jasper and Glenn used to get around. She was alone in the house now, the quiet fell around her instantly as the roar of the SUV's engine went away when they left. She felt her heart pounding in her chest, like an extra weight was trying to leave her, but it was stuck. Her throat felt a little tight as the anxiety rose in her. She closed her eyes and tried to take deeper breaths, but she was crumbling. She shook before she screamed out, tears blinding her and she threw her hand into another wall, caving it in under the weight of her fist. Her knuckles busted open again, but she didn't care. She felt pain and fear, and anxiety all at once. She tried so hard to shoulder it all. To keep it from the others, but she crumbled.
The roar of another truck pulled up and she didn't have time to recollect herself. Negan walked in and saw her state and rushed over to her.
"Sweetheart, calm down, look at me." Negan's voice was soothing to her. Bella opened her blue eyes and looked at him with tears in her eyes. "What happened?"
"I can't."
"Can't what? Where's Daryl? Where's the others?"
"I sent them to Alexandria."
"You sent Daryl with them?" Negan was surprised and confused all at the same time. "Sweetheart, listen, everything is going to be okay." He pulled her into his arms, holding her tight.
Bella clung to him, finally letting someone shoulder some of the weight she felt. She sucked in a breath and sobbed against Negan's hard chest.
"Shhh. It's okay." Negan murmured and kissed the top of her head, stroking her back, calming her down.
It felt like an eternity had passed, but Bella finally finished crying. Her body shaking a little with fatigue, but she pulled out of Negan's embrace to look at him with reddened, puffy eyes. "I'm worried…I'm worried I sent Daryl into a death trap, but…I have to trust Jasper and Glenn. Alexandria has too many innocents there I don't want them trapped in this war. I need to draw Rick out, but I also need others that are loyal to him, to see our side and see that Rick has lost it and is putting everyone in danger. I sent Daryl…to help Jasper and Glenn convince the others, very carefully, that we need to take out Rick…and possibly a woman named Carol who is only the way she is probably because she also lost her daughter. Rick is lost…he lost his wife and son and he never recovered and that made him dangerous and do stupid stuff. I empathize with that."
Negan nodded. "I do too. I can't say I did much better than Rick has with the loss. If we can't convince him to stop, we have to take him out. There are a lot of lives at stake and…it has to be done." He said and rubbed his hands down her arms. "How are you feeling about killing two people today?"
"The Wolves? Oh, I don't care about that." Bella shook her head. "They were useless. I want to hang my hopes on Martinez being truthful and taking me to a spot where I can take Rick out without having to break a sweat, but…he talks about the Governor, and from what Jasper said about the guy….he's not easy either. He's four hours south of us. If he is working with Rick, then that's a whole other situation that we know nothing about and is another threat."
"We can cross those bridges when we get there." Negan said and then brushed a strand of her hair back and tucked it behind her ear. He looked at her. "I love you."
Bella nodded. "I know." She blew out a breath. "I think I did something bad…"
"What did you do?"
"I hurt Daryl. The other day…and since then, I've been just…"
"Using him for sex as a distraction?" Negan said, raising a brow.
Bella nodded. "I feel like shit."
"Well…you can keep feeling like that. Or, you can let him know the next time you see him…that you love him and you're sorry. Not that he'll mind the sex part."
"You don't know Daryl like I do. He's…sensitive and sweet. He's not…experienced in the sex area so he let's me…talk him into things and I'm pushing him. Making him go outside comfort zones and that makes me a bad person."
Negan shook his head. "Doesn't make you a bad person. Daryl is a grown man too. He knows how to use words." He said and then he leaned in and kissed her softly. "Don't think too hard on it. Apologize for it and move on. Don't weigh yourself down with the selfpity."
"I…"She stopped and nodded. "You're right."
"Of course I am." Negan smiled. "Are you ready to go back to the compound or do you want to use the extra large bed in this house?"
Bella smiled a little. "Maybe not tonight. I'm not feeling too great."
Negan frowned. "What doesn't feel good?"
Bella sighed. "I don't want you to feel like I'm using you too."
Negan smiled a little. "I never feel used. I like to make you feel better, and sex does that for you. Let me make you feel better."
Bella studied him a moment and then nodded. "Alright." She said, giving in. Her heart beat a little fast in her chest as he scooped her up and carried her to the bedroom.
