Buffy episode Dead Man's Party.

Willow was angry. Angry and confused. Buffy had just come home and now she was running away again. Which is why they were arguing, arguing so much it drew Mrs. Summers attention and Buffy ran downstairs to get away from her. And now Xander was being mean to Buffy.

'Hey, what does he have to be mad about?' Willow thought. 'He's not Buffy's best friend, I am. She didn't abandon him with no one to talk to about everything. It's not like I can talk to him about Oz. Or Magic, for that matter. Especially Magic since he doesn't understand it like I do or have a gift for it like I do. And why is he defending Mrs. Summers? If she hadn't thrown Buffy out, Buffy would never have left. They need to be more sympathetic. Don't they understand, Buffy loved Angel? He could understand her and she could understand him. They were both so alone and being together made them happy. It's not Buffy or Angel's fault what happened to Angel. Someone needs to say something, to defend her, make them understand that!'

Willow was about to open her mouth and explain to Xander and Mrs. Summer why they shouldn't be attacking Buffy when to her surprise, Cordelia spoke up to defend Buffy. Of course she did it all wrong and made Buffy mad. Then Buffy said something that made Willow mad again and she had to say something!

Then zombies attacked and they had to defend themselves. Giles arrived and told them what had caused the zombies and Xander destroyed the mask one of the zombies was wearing.

'Mrs. Summers should forgive Buffy now.' Willow thought. 'Buffy protected her from the zombies because she loves her mother. And I still think Mrs. Summer was wrong to throw Buffy out and should feel bad about it.' Then she saw the two women hug each other. 'Well look at that, I guess they realized it too. I love happy endings.'

Later Xander and Cordelia were talking. "I was surprised to hear you defend Buffy, especially since you'd been saying the same things I was not long before. About Buffy treating Joyce badly, I mean."

"Actually I'm surprised too. I didn't intend to say anything, you were doing fine on your own and then I just felt like I needed to defend that one point. I mean she is a freak of nature and so was he. I guess I could understand why they'd be drawn to each other."

"And if I was a freak of nature, like say a mutant, would that be a deal breaker for you?"

"No, I was willing to keep you in my pool when I thought you were mutating into a fish monster. So not a deal breaker for me. Why? I thought the mutation was stopped."

"As far as I know, I never even started mutating. Removing and replacing my blood was a precaution to clean everything out. It's just, you don't like Buffy, so I was surprised to hear you defend her."

"Surprised me too. But she is pretty much the only one of her kind, unlike with mutants, so I wouldn't be surprised if she found relationships difficult. She probably feels only someone as alone and different as she is, could understand her."

"This so called Calling is lonely, even with friends, you mean."

"Exactly. There's only so much help and support we can give her. Angel could give her something more."

"Okay, I get what you're saying. They eased each other's loneliness. What was done to both of them was cruel. Angel wasn't responsible for what Angelus did and he shouldn't have been forced to suffer for it. And Buffy has been forced by some sort of Higher Power to be a Slayer. And until I revived her, the only Slayer. And now the second Slayer is dead too and Buffy is alone again, both romantically and as a Slayer. And none of them should ever have been placed in those positions in the first place."

"But you were right too." Cordelia said. "It was thoughtless of Buffy to just let everybody think she was dead for months. Giles went up and down the coast, spent his own money and followed rumors and did everything he could to find her. Mrs. Summers worried night and day about her and hated herself for loosing her temper."

"Which I can't really blame her for either. The police were accusing Buffy of murder, Buffy dusted a vampire in front of Mrs. Summers. Mrs. Summers whole world view got turned on its ear and instead of trying to talk to her mother about if, Buffy refused and then didn't come back after she stopped Angelus. I mean, why did she even believe Mrs. Summers? If Tony said don't come back, it would be believable because he doesn't give a shit about me. But Mrs. Summers loves Buffy and Buffy knows that. Mrs. Summers felt like Buffy was punishing her. From an outside perspective, it looks like Buffy was punishing Mrs. Summers. And then Buffy threatened to run away again because she wasn't welcomed back the way she thought she should be. I understand Mrs. Summers behavior and feelings, I don't understand Buffy's."

"Buffy's a teenager, she doesn't understand her own behavior." Cordelia reminded him.

"Well, that's true. Half the time I don't understand my own behavior. I'm still kicking myself over the love spell. Apparently both Buffy and I have a problem with impulsive control and knee jerk reactions."

"Then you need to work on slowing down and considering your actions more. Eventually you'll figure it out and then it won't be such an issue anymore."

"Excellent advice, My Queen."

"Well duh Doofus, of course it is. It came from me." Cordelia grinned as Xander kissed her.
