Buffy episode Faith, Hope and Trick.
"You were flirting with her." Cordelia accused Xander after they left the Bronze where they'd met the new Slayer, Faith.
"I'm not sure Giles wouldn't flirt with her. And no, I wasn't. I just had no blood left in my brain after the naked alligator wrestling stories."
Cordelia blinked. "Seriously?!"
"Seriously. I'm being honest here, Cor. I wasn't flirting with her, but I was fascinated by her. Unlike Buffy, she embraces being a Slayer. She has fun with it. Which makes for entertaining stories."
"Apparently very entertaining because you wanted to hear more about them."
"And if Kevin Sorbo wanted to tell you stories?"
Cordelia sighed. "Okay fine, you made your point. Just tone the fascination down, okay?"
"Cordy, I like her. I like you more. I've been more open and honest with you then anyone. You know things about me that Willow doesn't know. Like why I sleep outside on Christmas in Sunnydale even after I know vampires exist. Faith is hot, so are you. Faith has entertaining stories. I'm not telling her personal and private information. I'm not sharing anything more then a good laugh with her. I promise."
Now Cordelia was smiling. "You're right." She conceded. "I would listen to Kevin Sorbo tell stories. But I wouldn't tell him that I hate the way Daddy and Mother seem to forget about me when they're traveling, which is all of the time or seems like it."
"Exactly. Especially if he wanted to tell you he wrestled an alligator naked."
Now Xander got himself doped slapped as Cordelia laughed.
The next afternoon the group introduced Faith to Giles and watched her flirt with Giles, which had him commenting that she certainly seemed to be full of zest. A comment that had Willow scowling.
'He's Buffy's Watcher, not Faith's.' She thought. 'Instead of being helpful and encouraging Buffy he's being nice to Faith. Buffy needs him now more then ever. Faith doesn't. And why is she flirting with him? Just to make him like her, I bet. He needs to focus on Buffy and not encourage Faith to act all slutty with him. It's gross. And I so can help him with that spell he was talking about! Why won't he let me help?' Giles had been telling Buffy he had a way to bind Acathla but he needed details about what happened just before she stopped Angelus.
Willow felt like she was the only one actually being encouraging to Buffy right now.
"Scott likes you, Buffy." Willow told her. "And I'm not saying fall in love with him. I'm saying you need someone to show you some appreciation. To remind you that you're a girl. To help you have some fun and try to get past the pain of losing Angel. Scott might be able to help you with that."
"Maybe you're right. Maybe I need to try a normal relationship for awhile. And Scott is cute and nice. Alright, I'll give it a shot. It's not like Angel and I were ever able to do normal date stuff anyway. And I haven't really done anything fun with a guy since before Angel. Fun really wasn't a thing in our relationship. Just alot of intensity, I guess. So something light and different might be a good idea. Alright, I'll go on a date with him."
"Good for you, Buffy." Willow said enthusiastically. "It could help you move on. And even if Scott and you don't continue dating, it could still be good for you."
Over the next few days Giles kept badgering Buffy for details about the battle with Angelus, especially after Buffy and Faith beat the nasty old vampire that Faith had led straight to Sunnydale and lied about and Willow was getting even more frustrated with him.
'Doesn't he understand, she doesn't want to talk about it?! Who would? Buffy had to destroy the man she loves to save the world. I just wish the spell to help him had worked! I know I felt something, maybe it just didn't work in time. If it had, Buffy wouldn't be hurting so much. If Giles doesn't stop being so insensitive to Buffy's feelings I'm going to have to have a talk with him.'
And then to Willow's astonishment, Buffy confessed that the spell had worked, but it was already too late. Angelus had opened the portal and the only way Buffy knew to close it, was to use Angel to do it. Willow felt even worse.
'My best friend and I was too slow to help her. She didn't stop Angelus, she sacrificed Angel to save the world. No wonder she didn't want to talk about it.'
"Giles, I know I can help with that spell." Willow said after Buffy had left the library.
"There is no spell." Giles said. "I was trying to get Buffy to talk about it because I felt she needed to let out what she was feeling."
'Giles was right, she needed to talk about it, she said so.' Willow realized. 'Gods, Buffy. I'm sorry I wasn't faster. I'll get better, I promise. Now that I know I have a gift for Magic, I'll learn everything I can and become the best witch ever, you'll see. I'll help you and hopefully you'll never have to do something like that again.' Willow vowed. 'And obviously Giles does care about her. He knows he's Buffy's Watcher and not Faith's. He knows Faith doesn't belong here, just like I do. She's trying to take Buffy's place, Buffy said so. Faith even ate off her plate when Buffy was nice enough to invite her over for dinner. No, Faith doesn't belong here, Buffy does.'
