Prologue: E-Day

Project CADMUS

Washington DC

A black glove smacked against a wall panel, closing a reinforced door behind him. "That should buy us some time." The young man sighed and adjusted his companion's arm around his shoulders. "Just hold on; I'll get you some sun as soon as possible, darlin."

"Mm," the young woman's face tightened in pain as she held her bleeding side.

"Damocles, are you online?" the young man spoke aloud.

A low whir echoed across a long hall before a disembodied voice crackled to life. "Damocles is online, internal sensors are damaged, provide identification."

"Zero two niner Alpha five five Omega." The young man rounded a corner with his injured tag-along before entering an elevator.

"Acknowledge, agent Red X, security clearance Beta. Error, no record of access being granted to this facility."

Red X punched the desired floor on the elevator panel before helping his partner to the ground to rest. "Security override passcode: Olympus Fallen."

"Acknowledge, please stand by." Damocles initiated the elevator before speaking again. "External sensors cannot detect Director Waller; additionally, they cannot detect President Luthor or any other government official. Olympus Fallen protocol accepted, designating Red X as commander and Chief of the United States of America." The elevator stopped at its destination, and Red X knelt before his partner.

"End of the line darlin, were almost there." Red X looked at his injured companion. She was all he could save, and though he and the people he had come to call friends and family struggled valiantly, it was to no avail. The world was ending. Aquaman unleashed whatever superweapon he had made. Red X is now forced to resort to a project that might not even work. But, it was this or nothing. Humanity was done; the war of Atlantis and Themyscira finally claimed Earth as its last victim. There was no victory, only death, and now he was forced to rely on untested technology.

"It's…coming, I can hear it." Blonde hair fell over her blue eyes, but Red X did not miss the fear behind them. A low rumble permeated her words, and Red X forced her to her feet.

"That's why we need to move; come on," Red X said, slinging her arm over his shoulders. They walked towards their destination, a device at the center of an almost barren room.

"Damocles, boot up the gate and set the time to four years from now, Sixteen hundred hours." Red X looked at the gate as the rumbling started to intensify.

"Acknowledge Mr. President, standby." The gate whirred to life, and the rumble gave way to quaking tremors. The ceiling above groaned under an unknown stress.

"No time," the girl looked up and placed a bloody hand across Red X's cheek. "I love you."

"Hang on," Red X insisted; the gate cracked to life.

"Error, cannot maintain gate shut down imminent," Damocles said one last time before sputtering out. Red X's eyes widen behind his domino mask. The gate created a white portal for a second.

It was enough; she knew both of them wouldn't make it. So she planted her feet firmly and used her strength to push Red X through the closing gate. It would have been too fast for him to register, and he was caught off guard. She considered herself proud to have finally caught him unaware. The room cracked open, and white light burst through, engulfing the room. Red X went through the gate; before it closed, she heard his voice one last time.

"KARA!"

Seasons 3 and 4 of Young Justice left me bitter, but I recently rewatched the remarkable season 1 and superb season 2. I will admit to liking Season 3, but despite its cool stuff, Season 4 soured the show for me. So here we go, rebooting the Young Justice Universe. However, I'm adding a character from my younger days of watching Teen Titans. However, who the character is behind the maks is something I made up for another story that never lead anywhere. So here we go. Let's go brand spanking new Young Justice!
