Our heroes are still in Turffield and soon Ash will have his first Gym Challenge. Our heroes are quietly exploring the city, but suddenly...
A mechanical hand came out of the sky and grabbed Pikachu off Ash's shoulder. "Pika!"
"Pikachu!" Ash shouted.
"Oh no," Chloe said.
Ash, Roan and Chloe could already hear the evil laughter of Team Rocket, they looked up and saw the evil trio sitting in their balloon.
"Prepare for trouble!" Jessie said.
"And make it double!" James said.
"To protect the world from devastation!" Jessie said.
"To unite all people within our nation!" James said.
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!" Jessie said.
"To extend our reach to the stars above!" James said.
"Jessie!" Jessie said.
"And James!" James said.
"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!" Jessie said.
"Surrender now or prepare for a fight!" James said.
"Meowth! That's right!" Meowth said.
"Wobbuffet!" Cried Wobbuffet.
"Team Rocket! Ash said.
"Of course it's them, who else would be behind this, Chloe said.
"We got Pikachu! We got Pikachu!" The evil trio cheered.
"Give Pikachu back!" Ash demanded.
"Uh, no," Jessie said.
"We got Pikachu and he's staying with us," Meowth said.
Roan took Scorbunny's Pokéball from his pocket. "But that won't last long! Go, Scorbunny!" He said.
Roan threw Scorbunny's Pokéball and he appeared.
"Scorbunny!" Scorbunny squeaked.
"Scorbunny jump up and use FLAME CHARGE!"Roan commanded.
"Scor, Scorbunny!" Scorbunny cried.
Scorbunny jumped high into the air ready to attack, but Meowth grabbed and remote control and pressed the button. And other mechanical hand emerged and nipped Scorbunny.
"Bunny!" Scorbunny cried.
"Oh no, Scorbunny!" Roan said.
"Oh yes, we already have two Pokémon from the twerps, four more to go!" James said.
"Pika, Pika!" Pikachu cried.
"Scorbunny!" Scorbunny cried.
"What are we going to do now?" Chloe asked.
"We'll just fight back, we'll use all the Pokémon we have," Ash said.
"Good idea, twerps, we'll get all your Pokémon, let them come,' Jessie said.
"You'll never be able to pull that off," Roan said.
"Yeah, you fail most of the time, so why not this time," Chloe said.
''Hey, twerpette, you take that back," Jessie said.
Ash and Roan both reached for their Pokéballs and Team Rocket was also about to grab their Pokéballs.
"What are you all up to?" A voice asked.
Ash, Roan, and Chloe turned and saw Milo riding on his Gogoat and on Milo's hat was an Applin and that he was coming their way. Ash and Chloe grabbed their Rotom-Phone and opened their Pokédex app.
Applin is a small, worm-like Pokémon with a light green body and a dark green underside. Its head is round with two pink nostrilsIt spends its entire life inside an apple. It hides from its natural enemies, bird Pokémon, by pretending it's just an apple and nothing more.
Gogoat, the Mount Pokémon and the evolved form of Skiddo. It can sense the feelings of others by touching them with its horns. This species has assisted people with their work since 5,000 years ago.
"What's going on here?" Milo asked.
"That's Team Rocket and they stole our Pokémon," Roan explained.
"Give those Pokémon back right now," Milo said.
"I don't think so, farmer," Meowth said.
"Or my head has been hit with too many apples because that Meowth just talked" Milo said.
"You're not just hearing things, that Meowth can speak like a human," Chloe said.
"Not just to seeing something so wonderful farmer boy," Meowth said.
"I'm giving you one last chance to get your Pokémon back, or you'll have to deal with me," Milo said.
"Like we're afraid of a farmer," Jessie said.
"I'm not just a farmer, I'm Milo, the Turffield Gym Leader," Milo said.
"I thought he looked familiar," Ash said.
"Applin use GRASSY GLIDE and free Pikachu and Scorbunny," Milo commanded.
"Applin," Applin cried.
Applin used his attack and destroyed the mechanical hands, Pikachu and Scorbunny were freed and fell down.
"Gogoat jump up and catch Pikachu and Scorbunny," Milo commanded.
"Go!" Gogoat cried.
Gogoat jumped high into the air and caught Pikachu and Scorbunny on his back and landed safely on his legs, Ash and Roan ran towards Gogoat and grabbed their partner off his back.
"Pikachu," Ash said.
"Scorbunny," Roan said.
"Thank you Gogoat," Chloe said.
"Gogoat nodded with his head. Gogoat," cried Gogoat.
"Hey, no fair, those were our Pokémon," James said.
"Yeah, we stole them fair and square," Jessie said.
"Get out of my city," Milo said.
"You know what, let's forgot the Pokémon of the twerps," Jessie siad."Let's steal that farmer's Pokémon, I think the boss will be very happy about that."
"Good idea," James said.
"Let's do it!" Meowth said.
"You won't steal my Pokémon," Milo said. "Applin use GRASSY GLIDE again!"
Applin used his attack and destroyed Team Rocket's balloon. The balloon stumbled downward and Team Rocket screamed.
"Gogoat use LEAF STORM!" Milo commanded.
"Gogoat!" Gogoat cried.
Gogoat used his Leaf Storm attack and blew Team Rocket's balloon away
"What a humiliation," Meowth said.
"We got blasted off so early, that only makes humiliation worse," Jessie said.
"It's happened to us before," James said.
"Just like we say this before," Meowth said.
"We're blasting off again! Team Rocket screamed.
"Wobbuffet," Wobbufett cried.
Team Rocket flew into the air again and they disappeared from Turffield.
"So those guys are gone," Milo said.
"Thanks for your help Mr. Milo," Chloe said.
"You can just say Milo and you're welcome, Milo said. "And who are you?"
"I'm Roan," Roan said.
"Hi, I'm Chloe," Chloe said.
"And I'm Ash and I'm here to challenge you to the Gym Challege," Ash said.
"Oh, really?" Milo said.
"Yes," Ash said.
"Pika, Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"When can I expect you in my Gym?" Milo asked.
"Tomorrow," Ash said.
"Then until tomorrow Ash, I can't wait to see what you've got," Milo said.
Applin sat back down on Milo's hat, Milo got on Gogoat and rode off again. Ash and his friends headed toward field for lunch. Ash grabbed the pokéballs of Rookidee and Grookey and summoned them.
"Okay guys, tomorrow is our Gym Challenge against Milo, are you ready?" Ash asked.
The three Pokémon responded enthouistically, showing that they were looking forward to tomorrow's Gym Challenge.
"Then let's go for it!" Ash said.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu squeaked.
"Rookidee!" Rookidee chirped.
"Grookey!" Grookey chattered.
"You do know that you can only use two Pokémon in the Gym Challenge, right?" Chloe asked.
Ash turned to Chloe and looked at her with a puzzled face. "What?" he asked
"It's in the guidebook," Chloe said.
"Really?" Ash asked.
"How come you want to enter the League but haven't read the guidebook once?" Roan asked.
Ash walked up to Chloe and she handed him the guidebook. Ash went to the page about the gyms and began to read through it.
"It's really the rule, I can only use two Pokémon tomorrow," Ash said.
"So now you have to make a choice, which two will fight and who sits on the sideline?" Roan asked.
Ash sat down with his Pokémon and watched them.
"Rookidee is a Flying-type and is so is good against Grass-Types, Rookidee, you're in for tomorrow, Ash said.
Rookidee saluted. "Rookidee," Rookidee chirped.
Pikachu's electric attacks don't have much effect on Grass-Types, but Grass on Grass isn't very effective either, Ash said.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"Groo," Grookey chattered.
"But Grookey's agility and speed can come in handy, and with the right attacks we can win, but Pikachu has more experience," Ash said. He closed his eyes and started thinking and when he opened them, he had come to a decision. "Okay, I've come to a decision, Grookey you will be competing tomorrow too."
"Grookey!" A cheerful Grookey chattered.
"I'm sorry Pikachu, I know you have a lot of experience and want to compete, but I want to give Grookey and Rookidee a chance, do you understand?" Ash asked.
"Pika, Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"Thank you," Ash said. Well we have a lot of work to do, I saw today how strong Milo is, so we have to train hard now.
"Rooki," Rookidee chirped.
"Grookey," Grookey chattered.
"But first, lunch," Chloe said.
"After lunch," Ash said.
Ash and his Pokémon joined Roan, Chloe and their Pokémon for lunch.
And while Ash and his friends were enjoying lunch. Team Rocket had landed somewhere outside Turffield.
"Ouch my butt, I landed on my butt," James complained.
"We got beat super fast, that's a real bummer for us," Meowth said.
"Add that Gym Leader to the revenge list, he'll be sorry he let blasted us off," Jessie said.
"Yeah, he'll be sorry," James said.
"Once we get back to Turffield, he'll feel our wrath," Meowth said.
Moments later, Ash, Roan and Chloe had finished lunch. Chloe and Roan were busy cleaning everything up and Ash had started his training.
"Well done Grookey, use your speed," Ash said.
"Grookey!" chattered Grookey.
Okay, Rookidee Rookidee that gym only has a limited amount of space so it's important, we train your spatial awareness," Ash said.
"Rooki," Rookidee chirped.
"Chloe can you help us with that?" Ash asked.
"Yeah," Chloe answerd.
Chloe walked up to Ash, picked up a stick and started drawing lines on the ground.
"So if my calculations are correct the battlefield in the gym should be this big," Chloe said.
"So Rookidee you have to fly inside the lines," Ash said.
"Rookidee," Rookidee chirped as he nodded his head.
"You have always flown outside in the wild, but tomorrow you will fly inside for the first time," Ash said.
"Rooki," Rookidee chirped.
"Are you ready to practice?" Ash asked.
Rookidee nodded his head and flew to the the spot that was to represent the battlefield and began practicing flying inside the lines. Grookey continued to improve his Scratch attack and attacks with his stick.
After many hours of training, Ash, Roan and Chloe returned to the Pokémon center for a good rest. After eating, the three friends went to their room, played some more games and then went to bed. Ash was lying in side bed, his head was on his first gym battle and because of this he could not fall asleep, Pikachu realized this.
"Pika, Pika, Pikachu squeaked.
"Tomorrow is the day Pikachu, my first gym battle in the Galar region," Ash said.
"Pi, Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"We trained super hard today, I really want to win this," Ash said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu squeaked.
"Do you believe we even have a chance? Ash asked.
Pikachu nodded his head and snuggled close to Ash. "Pika, Pikachu," he squeaked.
"Thanks for your support buddy," Ash said.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
Ash petted Pikachu's head and then the two friends fell asleep.
The next morning, Ash, Roan and Chloe sat with their Pokémon in the dining hall and had a cozy breakfast together.
"So Ash, today is your Gym Challenge, are you ready?" Chloe asked.
"I'm so ready," Ash said.
"Groo, Grookey," Grookey chattered.
"Rookidee," Rookidee chirped.
"It sounds like they're ready too," Roan said.
"I'm so curious to see how a Gym Challenge will go, I can't wait," Chloe said.
"I come from a family of Gym Leaders, but I've never seen a Gym battle before," Roan said.
"Then I'll show you what a gym fight looks like," Ash said.
"Don't get cocky, Ash, you've already seen how strong Milo is," Chloe said.
"I know, I'm just really excited," Ash said.
"Then let's get to the Gym, you don't want to be late for your first fight," Chloe said.
"Let's go," Ash said.
Ash, Roan and Chloe got up and put away their breakfast stuff. Then they walked back to their table. Roan put Scorbunny and Toxel back in their Pokéballs. Ash walked over to Rookidee and Grookey and sat down in front of them.
"Okay guys it's that time, are you ready?" Ash asked.
"Rooki," Rookidee chirped.
"Grookey, Grookey," Grookey chattered.
"All right then," Ash said as he stood up and grabbed the Pokéballs from Rookidee and Grookey. "Rookidee, Grookey return."
Ash pointed the Pokéballs at his Pokémon and pulled them back in. When Rookidee and Grookey were back in their Pokéballs Ash looked at them.
"I'm counting on you guys," Ash said.
Ash put the Pokéballs in his pocket, Pikachu climbed on his shoulder and along with Roan and Chloe he left the Pokémon center.
After a short walk, the three friends arrived at the Gym and went inside. The three looked around and saw and statue with a plague with names on it.
"What is this?" Ash asked.
"I guess these are people who fought in the gym and won," Chloe guessed.
"Hey look there's Cody's name," Roan said as he pointed to Cody's name.
"Welcome to the Turffield gym," Milo said as he entered the building.
Ash and his friends turned around to see Milo walking in. "Milo," he said.
"Good to have you here, are you ready?" Milo asked.
"Totally, bring it on," Ash said.
"Good to hear," Milo said.
"Milo why are those names on that plague?" Roan asked.
"Those have all been challengers and they won," Milo explained.
"So Cody already has his first badge?" Ash asked.
"Cody, I remember him, he seemed at a disadvantage because their used electric-types, but then he came up with his Charjabug and won," Milo said.
"Charjabug?" Roan asked.
"That's the evolved form of Grubbin," Chloe explained.
'It seemed such a short time ago that Cody had caught Grubbin and he evolved it already, Ash said.
"He must have been training hard," Roan siad.
"As soon as you get changed, you can start the Gym Challenge," Milo said.
"Okay," Ash said.
"You two can go through this door and come out to the bleachers," Milo explained.
"Thank you," Chloe said.
Milo nodded his head and walked through another way.
"Pikachu you go with Roan and Chloe," Ash said.
"Pika, pika," Pikachu squeaked.
Pikachu jumped from Ash's shoulder to Roan's shoulder. Roan, Chloe and Pikachu walked through the door. Ash entered the locker room and changed clothes. Ash walked out the dressing room and stood in front to the big door, he closed his eyes, put his hand on his heart and took a deep breath. The doors opened and as stepped inside the chamber. Ash looked at the sign and read what the mission was; Get the Wooloo into pens. Simply run up to the Wooloo and they'll roll away from you. Beware of the blocking obstacles that'll make the Wooloo roll in different directions. After you finish herding your Wooloo, you'll climb up the stairs and take on Milo.
"Okay, let's do it!" Ash said.
Ash went out onto the grass and he managed the twenty Wooloo easily.
"That wasn't that hard," Ash said.
Then he headed toward the second field, where a Yamper was running around, the Wooloo spit up and spread across the field, while the Yamper ran after the Wooloo,
"This isn't going to be as easy as I thought," Ash said.
Ash started running after the Wooloo again, but this time collecting the wooloo was not as easy as before, but after a while Ash had managed to get all 20 Wooloo back into the cap. Ash now moved on to the next and last one, but he will already that it would be more difficult, because there were not 1, but 2 Yamper's. The Wooloo rolled onto the field and the two Yamper ran right after it, splitting the horde. Ash also went after the Wooloo, but this was much more difficult. After a few attempts, Ash had managed to get the twenty Wooloo into the box. Ash ran on, he ran up the stairs and the doors went up, Ash ran through the tunnel and came out at the stadium. Ash walked onto the grass battlefield where Milo was already waiting for him.
"You made it, well done," Milo said.
"Thank you," Ash said.
"Now the battle can truly begin," Milo said.
"Bring it on," Ash said.
"You can do it, Ash," Roan said.
"We'll cheer for you," Chloe said.
"Pika, Pika!" Pikachu cheered.
"Thank you guys," Ash said.
"So Ash, are you ready?" Milo asked.
"Totally!" Ash said.
"The Gym battle between Ash and Gym Leader Milo will now take place, both may only use two Pokémon and only the challenger is allowed to switch Pokémon."
Okay Gossifleur go for it, Milo said.
Milo threw a Pokéball onto the field and a Gossifleur came out. Ash grabbed his Rotom-phone and opened his Pokédex app with it.
Gossifleur, the Flowering Pokémon. A Grass type. Gossifleur floats, twirling on the breeze. There are many people who raise them, enchanted by their lovely singing.
"Here we go, Grookey I choose you!" Ash said.
Ash threw his Pokéball and Grookey came out.
"Grookey," Grookey chattered.
"Okay, Grookey you reqady?" Ash asked.
"Grookey," Grookey chattered.
A grass versus grass battle, this should be interesting, Milo said.
"Let the battle begin!"
"Ash you can have the first move," Milo said.
"Okay, Grookey, use SCRATCH!" Ash commaned.
"Groo!" Grookey chattered.
Grookey ran towards Gossifleur ready to attack.
"Dodge it," Milo commanded.
"Gossi!" Gossifleur cried.
Gossifleur jumped into the air and dodged Grookey's attack.
"Use RAPID SPIN!" Milo commanded.
Gossifleur went at Grookey with a good speed and hit him with Rapid Spin.
"Oh no, Grookey!" Ash said.
"That attack looked so strong," Roan said.
"Because Gossifleur was already in the air, it had more power and Rapid Spin was stronger," Chloe said.
"And now Grookey has already taken some damage," Roan said.
"Pika," Pikachu squeaked.
"Come on Ash! Come on, Grookey! You can do it!" Roan cheered.
"We believe in you!" Chloe cheered.
"Pika, Pika, Pikachu!" Pikachu squeaked.
Grookey can you get up?" Ash asked.
Grookey managed to stand up again. "Groo, Grookey," he chattered.
"Okay, then Grookey, run towards Gossifleur," Ash commanded.
Grookey nodded his head and ran towards Gossifleur.
"Jump up and dodge Grookey," Milo commanded.
"Gossifleur," Gossifleur cried.
"Now throw your stick at Gossifleur.," Ash said.
Grookey threw the stick up and it hit Gossifleur, who fell down and hit the ground.
"Oh no, Gossifleur," Milo said.
"Now Grookey use SCRATCH," Ash commanded.
Grookey ran towards Gossifleur and used his attack and did some damage.
"Grookey," Grookey chattered.
"Good job Grookey," Ash said.
"Gossifleur use your HYPER VOICE!" Milo commanded.
Gossifleur used the attack against Grookey and gave him a huge headache, Grookey could no longer hear anything, he dropped his wand from his hands and covered his ears.
"Grookey return!" Ash said.
Ash called Grookey back to his Pokéball and the Hyper Voice had stopped. Ash grabbed Rookidee's Pokéball with it.
Now Rookidee I choose you! Ash said, as he threw Rookidee's Pokéball
Rookidee came out of the Pokéball. "Rookidee," he chirped.
"Rookidee use your PECK!" Ash commanded.
"Rookidee," Rookidee chirped.
"Quick Gossifleur use SUNNY DAY!" Milo commanded.
"Gossi," Gossifleur cried.
And as Gossifleur used Sunny Day, Rookidee flew at the pokémon and hit it with his attack and Gossifleur was knocked out.
"Gossifleur was unable to battle."
"One down, one to go, Good job Rookidee," Ash cheered.
"Rookidee," Rookidee cheered.
Milo grabbed a Pokéball and threw it onto the battlefield and an Eldegoss came out. Ash took out his Rotom-Phone again and went to the Pokédex.
Eldegoss is a plant-like Pokémon. The seeds attached to its cotton fluff are full of nutrients. It spreads them on the wind so that plants and other Pokémon can benefit from them.
"Okay then, let's go for it again," Ash said.
"Now Eldegoss RAZOR LEAF!" Milo commanded.
"Rookidee dodge and then use your QUICK ATTACK!" Ash commanded.
Eldegoss launched his Razor Leaf attack at Rookidee, but Rookidee managed to dodge the attack just in time and flew towards Eldegoss ready to attack.
"Eldegoss dodge and use your LEECH SEED!" Millo commanded.
"Eldegoss," Eldegoss cried.
Eldegoss dodged Rookidee's attack and used Leech Seed. A seed planted itself in Rookidee's forehead and vines wrapped around Rookidee and energy was immediately taken from him.
"Oh no, Rookidee!" Ash said.
"Pika, pi!" Pikachu squeaked.
"What's happening?" Roan asekd.
"That's the effect of LEECH SEED, once the seed is planned it steals the Pokémon's energy," Chloe explained.
"Rookidee are you okay?" Ash asked.
"Rookidee," Rookidee chirped nodding his head.
"This battle isn't over and we're not going to give up," Ash said.
"Rooki, Rookidee," Rookidee chirped.
And as the Gym battle between Ash and Milo continued, Team Rocket was back in Turffield and were plotting a revenge plan. The trio walked past a flyer and James pulled it off the wall.
"The Sweet Apple Festival," James read of the flyer.
"Turffield's annual festival," Meowth said.
"That sounds like a fun opportunity," Jessie said.
"And a perfect opportunity for us to get our revenge," James said.
"Those apples look sweet," Jessie said.
"But our revenge is sweeter," Meowth said.
The Team Rocket Trio laughed evilly and Wobbufett emerged from his Pokéball.
The fight was still going on, Ash's Rookidee had managed to attack Eldegoss a few times, but Rookidee was getting weaker and weaker because of the Leech Seed.
"Okay Eldegoss we'll finish this off with a SOLAR BEAM!" Milo commaned.
Eldegoss launched a powerful Solar Beam and it hit Rookidee. Rookidee came down hard on the ground and was knocked out.
"Oh no, Rookidee," Ash said.
Rookidee is unable to battle, both the gym leader and the challenger both have one Pokémon left.
"But how is that possible for Eldegoss to attack? A Solar Beam takes time power up," Roan siad.
"Gossifleur, right before Ash defeated it, it used SUNNY DAY, it's still in effect, therefore Eldegoss can attack at once," Chloe said.
Ash returned Rookidee to his Pokéball and thanked him. Ash pulled out Grookey's Pokéball and summoned him.
"Grookey still looks like he is tired," Chloe said.
"He's going to have a tough time," Roan said.
"Pika, Pikachu!" Pikachu cheered.
"Grookey I know this is going to be tough, but I know you can do it," Ash said.
"Grookey," Grookey chattered.
"Okay, now!" Ash said.
"Grookey," Grookey chattered.
"Use STRACH," Ash commanded.
Grookey ran towards Eldegoss, but he just stood still.
"LEECH SEED," Milo commaned.
Eldegoss used Leech Seed again and a seed was planted in Grookey's head, the vines bounded around Grookey and energy was sucked right out of him.
"No, not again," Ash said.
"Grookey," Grookey chattered.
"Come Grookey, I know you can do it," Ash said.
"Groo, Grookey," Grookey chattered.
"Okay, then use BRANCH POKE," Ash commanded.
"POLLEN PUFF!" Milo commanded.
"Eldegoss," Eldegoss cried.
With the energy he had left, Grookey ran towards Eldegoss, but he used his attack, Grookey was hit and a small explosion followed, the field was covered with dust. The dust cleared and Grookey lay knocked out on the ground.
Grookey is unable to battle, the challenger has no Pokémon left, that means the winner is Milo,
Ash and Milo both returned their Pokémon to their Pokéballs. Ash and his friends left the gym.
"Sorry you lost Ash," Chloe said.
"Yeah, I thought you did very well," Roan said.
"Pika, Pikachu," Pikachu squeaked.
"I'm not going to give up, I'm going to win that Gym badge," Ash said.
Ash may have lost his Gym Challenge, but not his fiery spirit. Will he win his rematch against Milo? And what is Team Rocket planning for the Sweet Apple Festival?
