Chapter 2: Blending In? Time
"Hiya, my name's Ame Shuri! I'm San-nii-chan's little sister! Pleased to meet everyone!" I bowed to the class.
"What the hell, Shuri? You been holding out on us man!" A lanky boy with a shaved head shouted at my faux-brother.
"You'd date a rice ball if it had legs, Okajima…" The silver-haired guy rolled his eyes.
"You know if you need a seat-" An orange haired boy got up and attempted to offer me his seat.
"Maehara, don't even think about it." One of the young ladies with her hair up in a ponytail spoke up.
"Ah calm down Toka! Didn't know you were the jealous type." The orange-haired creep smirked at her.
"Don't know why you leches are so tryhard in all this, for all you know she may not even be into guys… You ever think of that?" A tall blonde, who I later came to know as Rio spoke up with a wink towards me.
"Thanks for the warm introduction everybody… but I think I'm gonna sit with Onii-chan in the back of class. I don't see anyone in that seat." I walked back and sat down next to Shuri, faking a warm smile looking up at him as he gave me an unsure look in response.
"Um… Ms. Shuri…" The small blue-haired boy I noticed on my way back called out to me. "That desk technically belongs to-"
"Nah, if small-fry here wants the desk, she can have it. Ain't no big deal to me." I guess what the boy with the red hair was trying to do was threaten me as he glared with his golden eyes. I wasn't impressed.
"Akabane, correct? My brother has told me about you… Get a few lucky shots on our target and you think you're top banana of this class. Takes more than luck to be a top-class assassin," I huffed.
"Big words coming from the little brat sister of a second rate inventor! What idiot gets booted here for just making some machine… It's hilarious… 'trying to help his peers'... Yeah, he deserves-"
"Shut up! You mass of an inferiority complex!" I growled, holding my hand underneath his chin.
"The hell is this?!" He shouted looking down at my hand as my fingernails had grown to an impossible length in just a short amount of time.
"Ms. Shuri, I ask that you try not to lose your temper in lieu of Karma's antics. While you're here I suggest leaving any indiscretions with other students to your teachers, myself included," the Octo-limbed mark requested. "As for your desk, if you feel that you would like to sit with your brother I can ask Karasuma to get you an extra from the back… for now why don't you take the seat directly to your right Karma, and Ms. Shuri can take your original desk. I hid my hand as I retracted my fingernails.
"Sure thing Koro-Sensei, I apologize for disrupting class, hopefully this will be the last time for now!" I returned to the cheery disposition I had practiced many-a-time.

"So tell me Shuri…" Others were away from San and I as we sat to eat our lunch. "This green stuff actually works on him?" I bent the flexible knife in my hand. "And did they really have to make those BBs pink?"
"You got something against pink, Ame?" He asked me as I glared at him. Noticing, he looked at me with a careless look in his eye. "And would you rather me refer to you by your actual last name. Wouldn't that be against your 'assassin's code' and you'd have to swallow some pill or something?"
"Ame is fine, San, we are brother and sister after all… right?!" I growled through gritted teeth.
"Are all pros this short-tempered?" He asked with a sigh. "Look, you can get angry all you want… it isn't gonna help you against our teacher… Sure I don't know what you're capable of just yet, however I've seen stuff enough to make even Karasuma-Sensei doubt his abilities. Professor Jelavic lit up the entire storage room with real live rounds, guy was impervious. Akabane, threw himself off a cliff, only to be swept up from underneath in a cat's cradle of tentacles." Just as he was giving me the talking-to, my eyes were drawn to a set of contrails flying in our direction.
"Talk is cheap, Shuri… I'll prove to you why I have a 100% success rate when it comes to assassination," I told him, as I stood up and began to walk towards the classroom. We both sat at our respective desks, as our teacher returned to his. I noticed Shuri locked eyes with me as I blinked. He gave me a bewildered look as my eyes went from crimson red, to pale crystalline blue. Then the air got cold around us. A chilling smokescreen began to fill the room as it billowed from under my uniform. The whole room was in a panic, "Koro-Sensei…" I said through some shifted vocal cords as I donned a horned mask. "It is time for you to meet your end."
***
Before I was born, my mother… an infamous seductress in the criminal world was captured and experimented on. Her treatment was less than pleasant. Apparently it was all a test by some scientist that wanted to create the ultimate lifeform. What resulted was me… A living genetic weapon. Able to shift her body composition mostly at will. Apparently the scientist modeled me after a mythological creature he read about in some book, the Hannya. These snake-like demons could change their appearance to several different and dangerous forms. These experiments greatly enhanced my senses… Improved night-vision, kinetic vision, and blindsight, frequency differentiation, fingernails that can inject paralyzing venom, and stronger olfactory recognition, these were a lot of the powers that were instilled in me… My mother was left a shell of her former self after the experiment. By the time I was 6 I had mastered a form that could leave my targets chilled to the bone. I used that form to narrowly break out of our imprisonment. It was outside that I met a tall, threatening looking man… He said he was her 'handler' and that he had finally tracked her down.
***
I sank into the smokescreen as my eyes went from blue to yellow, I threw my jacket off as feathers began to grow from my arm. Metal against slate was heard ringing through the classroom as I flung my arm forward. I found the yellow menace and glared down at him from the air as I hardened the feathers on my arms. I could hear the screams of terror coming from my classmates and teacher.
"Oh my tentacles, I can't move! I'm pinned! Mercy me!" His screams shouted. "They're frozen!"
***
"Your speed is good, young one, but your skill leaves much to be admired." The yellow-eyed form was a swift bird-like form, it allowed me some minor flight and agility. I could also harden the feathers to act as blades. With my improved speed my mentor told me that I was able to reach speeds of Mach 3. "However," he said in his strong Russian accent. "Your patterns are feral, you lack follow-through… if a target is stronger than you…" I felt a hand grasping around my neck, "and can find you at just the right moment… you are as good as dead."
***
I reached for several tentacles as I dive-bombed at my practiced Mach 6, I found several of them and cut them off with my razor tipped wings, however in my haste I found myself bound by the wrists of others… "Not again!" I shrieked in frustration as my eyes shifted from yellow to green.
***
There I was clenched in his grip as I felt the life falling out of me, in my winged form while my speed was greatly enhanced and my physical strength was the trade off. Through using my two new forms I had also learned that with each new skill something else would suffer. In my blue-eyed form my constitution was paper-thin, with the abilities of the smokescreen and brief instances of intangibility. I would find out then and there that if I was making contact with someone at the time of going intangible that it would fail to work. My mind began to panic more and more. My body fell limp as I felt the last utterance of breath escape my lungs and my eyes returned to their normal red, only to immediately glow a powerful green as soon as my feet hit the ground. The solid clay beneath my feet shattered into a divot as I launched myself at my instructor, with newfound strength my hand drove itself into his leg and with a snap it was broken. My mother immediately rushed over to the man and did her best to stop me.
***
I pulled out my favored weapon, a giant mace that I could only wield while my eyes were glowing green. My handler had handed me a modified version that at first had me question everything about this assignment, however after seeing the effectiveness through a video passed along, I now understood the changes. With a thunderous roar I pulled my target's arms in on himself and swung my full force down. I could hear his cries of agony as my pummel crashed through him. I looked down with a smirk, Wasn't easy but that's th-
"It's a wonderful attempt, oh great and powerful Hannya…" I flinched as I heard his insidious laugh. "So… you're the predecessor I heard so much about. I have to say from what I heard to be a rough prototype, you certainly seem quite adequate at what you do. I look forward to your progress as we continue in the class. Maybe next time you can involve some of your fellow classmates…" His laugh rang in my ear and something in my mind just snapped… I don't remember the following few minutes but when I came to, Shuri, Akabane, and Karasuma-Sensei were all holding me down. Shuri's uniform was torn and had several scorch marks.
"Hey Ame…" He said, his voice still shaky… "Glad to see you're alright…" I later learned that as the smoke cleared I had lost any semblance of thought or reason. Shuri was the first to react and got the full brunt of my rage in the process.
"Hannya huh? Really horror of a bi-"
"Watch it Akabane!" Shuri shouted in my defense.
"I'm not scared of you lapdog!" Akabane smirked. "I call it like it is, and your 'little sister' is a mon-"
"I said 'Watch It!'" Shuri growled. "And that's real rich coming from you, you sociopathic prick!"
"Chivalrous aren't we? Don't come asking for my help next time when she bites your head off, white knight…" Akabane walked back to his seat and sat down.
"Screw him…" Shuri rolled his eyes, "How about you? How are you doing?"
"Is he dead?" I asked monotonously.
"Unfortunately no… but you'll get used to that…" Shuri sighed.
"You're taking this rather well… Aren't you?" I asked him. "My cover is blown, you don't have to keep acting like-"
"Actually the only people that know are Koro-Sensei, Karasuma, and Akabane, and of course myself… Koro-Sensei had everyone else in the room leave to protect them from… well you…" I fell to my knees as he scrunched next to me.
"Shuri… What actually happened to you…?" I asked him half-heartedly.
"Probably nothing a good meal won't fix…" He replied to me with a warm smile. "Well it's getting late, should we head home sis?"
"Sis?" I looked at him, puzzled.
"Well if you wanna stick around I mean…" He said as he stood up. He turned around and offered me a hand. "I'm not opposed to having you around a while longer…"
I took his hand as he lifted me up, and with a smile and a nod, "Thanks San-Nii," the two of us headed back towards his apartment complex.
