The Lady Priestess Kuri was making a delicious dinner when she heard a knock at the door.
Before she could answer, a boy with the touch of flame to his features rushed through.
"Please help!" He cried, his voice cracked from the tears that were spilling down his cheeks.
He held a girl in his arms, a snarling girl.
Kuri rushed to them, placing her hands on the girl, soothing her and placing a bamboo gag in her mouth.
"What can I do for you?" The words were out before she could think, the requirements of magic.
Tanjiro, for indeed it was he, thought for a moment. "A…basket. Can I have a basket for Nezuko?"
"A basket? Sure. Let me see…" The priestess thought a moment, then intoned:
"A tisket a tasket
A comfortable basket!"
A wicker basket appeared and dropped to the ground.
"How…did you do that?" Tanjiro touched the basket in shock, while Nezuko crawled in and got comfy.
"It was a spell. Off the cuff too not bad at all." Kuri touched the inside of the basket. "Very cozy."
Tanjiro touched the basket." A spell? Did you summon it?"
"Kinda. Magic is desire, will, and faith. You want something, decide you can have it, and believe it's yours. And viola; basket!"
"But…you're a priestess correct? Not a witch?"
"Yes. I'm a priestess. The difference is where the magic comes from. I have faith, and that's my source of power."
Tanjiro was just relieved her power wasn't demonic. "Oh good. I-I'm Tanjiro Kamado; and that's my sister, Nezuko. I'm trying to help her."
Nezuko cheered against the gag and pumped her little fists. "mmhmm!"
Tanjiro smiled.
"I think she likes the basket." Kuri pet her. "So you are looking for a way to turn her human?"
"Yes I am." Tanjiro said. "This place…grants wishes?"
Kuri nodded, handing him a book. "Try to find the right spell while I finish dinner."
While the priestess was gone, the inexperienced Tanjiro went through the grimoire and found a spell he liked, casting it.
The shack trembled and shook, going backwards in time.
The miko ran to Tanjiro, desperate to stop him. "What have you done?!"
"I have to save her….I'm sorry." Tanjiro ran out the door.
"No! Tanjiro!" Kuri tried to get out the door. "I…I…" But she could do nothing. So she lay there, hugging Nezuko, waiting.
Slowly, the demon girl began to regain her humanity. Shocked, Kuri wondered what was happening beyond the door.
The gag dropped of Nezuko. "Brother he…"
"TANJIRO!" Kuri finally was able to break thru the door, rushing to him, catching him in her arms. "Tanjiro…"
The now demon Tanjiro snarled at her, trying to attack her.
"D-don't you recognize me?" Kuri pleaded.
To her surprise, Tanjiro stilled, seeming to listen.
"Tanjiro. You have to come with me so time can flow again. Run through that door. Nezuko is in there. You remember Nezuko!"
Tanjiro growled slightly. "Ne-zu-ko…"
"Good. Let's go see nezuko. She's a beautiful human girl now because of you. Cmon." Kuri pulled on him, and she almost didn't see it coming as he lunged at her. "Whoa! Cmon! Don't eat me!"
Tanjiro grabbed her and broke through the door inside, crouching over her, drooling and snarling as he looked up into Nezuko's eyes.
"Brother?" Nezuko cried. "Oh God he's a demon! Oh brother!"
Tanjiro smiled, pointy fangs glistening in the twilight.
