Chp. 1: Settlement

It had been a couple days since the Battle of Beacon. Teams GRMA and CFDT had all been sent home to Earth. The school year for the Huntsmen Academies had just ended as all the students were sent home. The Fall Maien Amber had been recently sent to Earth for protection as doctors worked to help her recover. Cinder Fall, Emerald Sustrai, and Mercury Black were now a part of Remnants most wanted as they went into hiding after their failed attack on Beacon Academy with the aid of the White Fang.

Out in the ruins of Mountain Glenn, the United States military was clearing out rubble and debris to set up their new base. A Blackhawk helicopter hovered down and made its landing in the middle of a courtyard. A small group of marines boarded off of the aircraft, and following them out were three more marines, Captain Keaton Gordon, Sergeant Cassandra Rogers, and Sergeant Alex Barker. They all started walking out of the landing zone.

"Another day of pushing Grimm out of the area," Alex said.

"I guess this pretty much makes us monster hunters now, huh?" Cassandra asked.

"This is needed if we want to establish a base of operations here," Keaton said.

"Yeah, we know. And we also can't make ourselves known to the public. At least until both worlds are ready," Alex said.

"So when do you think your brother and his friends will come back?" Cassandra asked. "They did enjoy coming to Remnant."

The three marines walked into a large tent that housed guns and clips of ammunition. Keaton, Alex, and Cassandra split off and each went to a table. They set their weapons down onto the table and were getting ready to clean them.

"That's not up to me. That's up to the higher ups and the parents back at home," Keaton answered. "And there's this COVID-19 shit that's going on back on Earth. And of course they don't want the virus to spread to Remnant too."

"Yeah, that too. Thanks a lot China for making things difficult," Alex said.

"We'll worry about that later. Right now we need to be prepared for when Professor Ozpin and General Ironwood show up tomorrow," Keaton said.

"Right. The two honchos of Vale and Atlas," Alex said.

"Makes you wonder what they'll think of Earth upon hearing everything about it. I mean, All of Earth's problems and conflicts are a lot worse compared to Remnant's problems and conflicts," Cassandra said.

"Either way, they'll take interest," Keaton said.

Before the three marines could take apart their rifles to clean them, an alarm suddenly blared out from outside catching everyone's attention. Keaton, Alex, and Cassandra quickly grabbed their weapons and ran out of the tent to see what was going on.

"We've got Grimm incoming!" a soldier yelled out as he ran past the three marines.

Upon hearing this, the sounds of gunfire and explosions were heard in the distance. Keaton, Alex, and Cassandra all ran to where sounds of battle were taking place. They soon ran up to see soldiers and marines shooting at oncoming Grimm running out from the woods. The three marines formed up in line and started to shoot alongside with their fellow marines and soldiers at the Grimm.

Keaton glances to his right and sees three Creeps charging towards him, Cassandra, and Alex.

"Contact right!" he shouted.

Keaton, Alex, and Cassandra all turned their guns at the Creeps coming at them and opened fire at them. Two of the Grimm dropped to the ground dead from all of their inflicted wounds, but the last Creep however kept on charging at the three marines. Alex and Cassandra jumped away from the charging Grimm, but Keaton however was too slow to react in time as he got tackled to the ground by the Grimm.

The Creep tries to chop down at Keaton's head with its jaws, but the captain raises his rifle over him as the Grimm bites down on it. Keaton reaches down and pulls out a knife before slitting the Creep's throat, causing it to choke out. He pushes the Grimm off of him and quickly gets up before firing a couple shots at its torso, killing it. Cassandra and Alex run up to their captain as he puts away his knife.

"You alright, Captain?" Alex asked.

"Yeah. I'm fine," Keaton answered.

"More contact!" Cassandra shouted as she started shooting at something from behind them.

The two other marines turned around to see an Ursa charging at them. Alex and Keaton both fired off rounds at the Ursa alongside Cassandra. The large Grimm soon slows down and falls to the ground dead in front of the three marines. Keaton hears the sound of a man screaming and turns to see Beowolf biting and clawing at a helpless soldier. Keaton rushes over and swung his rifle at the Grimms head, getting its attention. He then fires a couple shots at the Beowolf in the chest and head, killing it.

Keaton rushes over and kneels down to the wounded soldier. He sets his rifle down before he starts tending to the soldier.

"You're gonna be okay, buddy. Just hang in there," he said.

Suddenly a large set of jaws belonging to a Creep bit down on the soldier's head before being pulled away and tossed away into the air. The Creep roared at Keaton's face as he pulled out a pistol and fired a few rounds into its mouth. The Grimm falls over dead as Keaton quickly gets up from the ground, while picking up his rifle and putting away his pistol.

Cassandra and Alex both continued to shoot at the Grimm that was still trying to overrun the camp. A Beowolf rushes at Alex and tries to pounce at him, but he quickly steps aside as it tumbled to the ground. Alex quickly shoots the Grimm in the back of the head, killing it. Cassandra was shooting at a Boarbatusk that was spinning itself towards her. She pulls out a grenade, and then pulls the pin before tossing it at the Grimm. As the Boarbatusk rolls over the grenade, it explodes, sending the Grimm flying and crashing into the ground in front of Cassandra. She fires a few rounds at its belly, killing it. The marine pulled out her radio and spoke into it.

"Quebec 9-7, this is Hunter 2-5! Requesting immediate air support, over!" she said.

"Copy that, Hunter 2-5. Give us coordinates to designated targets, over," the man on the radio replied.

Keaton shot and killed an Ursa as it dropped to the ground. He then heard a loud screech as he looked up to see a Griffon flying down towards four soldiers. It lands right in the middle of the small group of soldiers, causing them to fall to the ground. The Grimm tried to peck at one of the soldiers as he rolled away from the attacks. Keaton shoots at one of the Griffon's eyes making it screech out in pain. Keaton pulled out a grenade and pulled the pin. Just as the Griffon turned its attention towards the marine captain and screeched at him, Keaton threw the grenade into the Grimm's mouth as it accidently swallowed it. The soldiers quickly got up from the ground and scattered away from the Grimm as it then exploded.

The soldiers ran up to Keaton and as they did a storm of bullets rain down from above killing the large horde of Grimm that was making their way to the camp. Everyone looked up to see a couple of A-10 Thunderbolt II fighters flying overhead. They all looked around to see that all of the Grimm had been wiped out.

The four soldiers turned their attention to Keaton. The first soldier was bald and wore a pair of sunglasses, and had a brown goatee and mustache. The second soldier has dark brown skin, hazel eyes, and short black hair. The third soldier has brown eyes and wears a pair of glasses, and has a shaved head. The last soldier had green eyes, and black buzzed cut hair and a soul patch.

"You saved my ass. Thanks," the soldier said.

"I saved all your asses. You're welcome," Keaton said.

"Captain Gordon!" Keaton turned around to see Cassandra and Alex running towards him.

"You two alright?" Keaton asked.

"Yeah," Alex answered.

"We're both fine," Cassandra added.

The marines look back to the four soldiers.

"Army?" Alex asked.

"Yes, sir," the American hispanic soldier replied

"What are your names?" Keaton asked.

"Staff Sergeant Levi Christian. Everyone calls me Bulldog though," answered.

"Corporal Jose Perez. The boys here call me Missionary," the American hispanic soldier said.

"Specialist James Dunn. My team and buddies call me Ice Pick," the soldier with the glasses said.

"Private First Class Henry Simon. But you can call me Steel," the soldier that Keaton had previously rescued said.

"What about you guys? What are your names?" Bulldog asked.

"I'm Captain Keaton Gordon. United States Marines," Keaton introduced himself.

"Sergeant Alex Barker,"

"Sergeant Cassandra Rogers. We're with the Captain,"

"Marines, huh? I guess you guys get a lot on your shoulders, huh?" Missionary asked.

"We all do, Corporeal," Cassandra said.

"Hopefully once Professor Ozpin and General Ironwood arrive, they will be able to help us with our predicaments with the construction of our base and defenses from the Grimm," Bulldog said.

"You can say that again. This whole thing is pain in the ass," Alex said.

"We just need to hang in for a little bit longer. I'm sure this will be worth it in the end," Keaton said.

"It better. 'Cause I'm getting tired from all this," Steel said

"We all are Steel. We all are," Ice Pick said.
