Barbara and I were walking in the streets while talking about different topics, today had been a somewhat exhausting day so we were somewhat married.
"God, I'm so glad today is Friday." Barbara said somewhat tiredly.
"I might like school here. But that doesn't take away from the fact that it's kind of boring." I said while stretching myself a bit.
"Hehehe, you're right Benja." She said the redhead with a smile, at that moment Barbara's cell phone would start ringing. The girl took her cell phone and when she saw who was calling her, he was very happy for her.
"My God, it's Harleen." Barbara said excitedly.
"Harleen ?." I ask curiously.
"Harleen is my best friend from Gotham City, she calls me from time to time." Barbara said as she answered the call.
"Babs. How are you?" Barbara's best friend asked from a pay phone.
"Alright Harleen, how are things in Gotham ?." the redhead asked curiously.
"Oh, you know. Good." Harleen said with a smile even though everything around her was different from what she said.
"Babsy, guess what? There will be a convention here in Gotham City this weekend!" Barbara's best friend said with a smile.
"Ah !!. You speak of the annual convention of villains and heroes of Gotham!?." shouted Barbara excitedly.
"That's right Babsy !!." Harleen shouted excitedly as well, however she was silenced when a glass bottle hit one of the walls of the cabin.
"Shut your damn mouth !!. Some of us try to sleep !." yelled a person from a dilapidated apartment.
"Come and force me son of a bitch !!." Harleen yelled annoyed.
"Hey Harleen, you won't mind if I bring a friend to Gotham right?" Barbara asked curiously, all the girls were busy on the weekend and she wanted her best friend to meet one of her friends.
"Mmm, of course Babsy! There will be no problem, after all I would like to meet one of your friends from Metropolis." Harleen said smiling.
"Great, I already want you to meet him." said Barbara smiling.
"Okay, I'll be waiting for you, see you soon Babsy-boo." Harleen said smiling as she said goodbye to Barbara.
"And how is Harleen?" I ask curiously.
"Benja, you and I are going to the Gotham City Heroes and Villains Convention !." Barbara said excitedly.
"Convention of heroes and villains ?." ask with some doubt.
"It's Gotham City's biggest convention, every year Harleen and I go to that convention. I asked if you could come with me and she said she wants to meet you." said the redhead with a huge smile.
"Wow, that sounds like fun." I said smiling, a convention of heroes and villains. That caught my attention too much, I also wanted to meet Barbara's best friend, I was sure she would be a nice person.
"And what do you say Benja? Do you want to come?" asked Barbara smiling.
"I would love to." I said smiling, Barbara glad to hear that and we both started walking again while Barbara told me what Gotham was like and what her friendship with Harleen was like.
Inside a bus Barbara and I were traveling to Gotham while the redhead was telling me about some of the things she lived here in Gotham.
"So, are you ready to meet Harleen?" Barbara asked with a smile.
"Sure, I just hope I can get along with her." I said smiling.
"Easy Benja, I'm more than sure that you and Harleen will be good friends." Barbara said smiling.
At that moment the bus stopped, Barbara and I approached the door and when I got out I could see that clearly Gotham was a very different city from all of them. Trash on the ground, all the buildings with graffiti, police cars on the streets. He was very surprised to see what Gotham was like.
"Out of my way, can't you see I'm in a hurry?" A voice that Barbara recognized instantly was heard in the midst of the people at the bus stop.
"Get off you idiot !." at that moment we saw Harleen step out of the group of people as she pushed others to make her way. Seeing Barbara she would quickly go to give him a huge hug.
"Babsy !!." Harleen yelled with a huge grin.
"Harleen !!." shouted Barbara as she hugged her best friend and they began to salute like best friends of all life. Seeing this I felt a small prick in my heart which I tried to ignore but could not. This reminded me of someone.
"Harleen, I want you to meet Benja. He's one of my friends in Gotham." Barbara said as she walked over with Harleen to say hello.
"Hello, nice to meet you." I said smiling with some shyness.
"Nice to meet you, Harleen." The girl said as she extended her hand to me, when I shook my hand with hers, I suddenly felt a great electric shock.
"Haha. A classic, they always fall into the trap." Harleen said smiling as she showed me a small button in her palm, that made her smile and laugh a little.
"So, are you ready to go to Gotham's biggest villain convention?" Harleen asked smiling.
"If you mean the biggest and most popular hero convention in Gotham City? The answer is yes." said Barbara smiling.
"But Babs, that's on the other side of town." Harleen said with a smile, knowing what Barbara would say.
"Then, we will have to go through all of Gotham City !!." shouted Barbara excitedly as she began to run through the streets.
"You don't want to be left behind, come on Benja!" Harleen yelled as she took my hand and we both started running to follow Barbara.
It only took us 30 minutes to get to the convention, but you could say that it was interesting to see the city and we did many things, the main one of all was to take a photo in each place in Gotham City, then I saw how Barbara and Harleen began to dance about a police car in the middle of a robbery, among other things to be honest. It was fun.
Upon entering the convention we saw multiple stalls selling everything from T-shirts to Joker or Batman dolls.
"Wow, they have everything." I said surprised while looking at everything.
"Benja, Babs look at this !. It is the steamroller that the Joker in his biggest Christmas joke." Harleen said smiling as he showed us the steamroller that had a huge smile as an ornament.
"Wow, that is very surprising." I said while looking at the steamroller.
"Hey Babs, what do you want to see now? Surely something Batman related right?" Harleen asked as she smiled.
"Hahaha, you know me so well Harleen." said Barbara smiling.
A couple of minutes later the three of us were now in a room full of people in disguise while Barbara was reading a little brochure.
"Surprise guest? I thought we were going to see Batman." Harleen said as he took the brochure from Barbara.
"Of course he's Batman, after all. Batman likes to keep things a secret." Barbara said with a smile.
"I'm super excited, I've been thinking about my questions for Batman. He'll surely be surprised when he reads them to him." Barbara said excitedly as she showed a small sheet of paper full of questions.
At that moment the lights in the room went out, letting us know that it was about to start.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the moment you have all been waiting for. Please greet with a loud applause." the host was going to keep talking until Barbara screamed.
"Batman." Barbara said excitedly but what she would hear would make the redhead's smile disappear.
"Robin !." at that moment Harleen, Barbara and I could see Batman's assistant take the stage as he curtsied to the audience as everyone applauded.
"I think I need to wear glasses again, please. Tell me that he is not Robin." I said as he looked at Batman's helper in surprise.
"He is, he's Robin." Barbara said with some sadness, something Harleen and I could see.
After a couple of minutes, we were listening to Robin talk about how Batman told him to come instead. You didn't have to be a super genius like the Dark Knight to know that all of Robin's story was a total sham.
"And then, I said to Batman. Sure, no problem. I'm going to the convention for you. And he said 'Oh thank you so much Robin. You are the best,'" Robin said causing everyone to start clapping. Okay, everyone except Harleen, Barbara, and me.
"Very well, if anyone has questions to ask our guest. Please come forward." said the presenter.
"Babs, your questions. Come on!" Harleen yelled as she cheered for Barbara as she led her to the front.
"Don't worry Bábs, you can do it." Harleen said supporting the redhead. Just when they got to the front, Barbara's friend would place the redhead in front of another person who was going to ask her questions.
"What are you looking at, paunchy?" Harleen said as she pushed the guy into her seat.
An enormous silence followed as Harleen and I saw that Barbara was completely nervous, something that worried us very much.
"Well me. I had a few questions for Batman." Barbara said while she was embarrassed.
"Well, there's nothing I know that he doesn't know, right?" Robin asked making everyone laugh.
Barbara turned around and she would realize that Harleen and I were supporting her the best we could. The redhead sighed as she focused on her questions now.
"Well Batman, said Robin. When investigating a case, a detective doesn't find dozens, if not thousands, of evidence at the scene." Barbara was about to continue when she saw that Robin was pretending to be asleep.
"What, you thought that by asking a smart question you were going to impress Batman? Or that he would be so amazed that he would be your best friend?" Robin asked as he laughed. Barbara returned to where Harleen and I were while she covered her face with her arms.
Harleen and I heard Robin's laugh like the rest of the other people, Barbara's friend and I especially saw Robin who was laughing like never before. If someone saw my eyes and Harleen's eyes they could swear they could see fire in our eyes due to anger and a huge desire to want to shut Robin up.
I was trying my best to control my anger, I had to stay calm or my magic would get out of control. Although he couldn't deny that he felt like throwing a fireball at Robin, he could swear that Harleen wanted to do something to Batman's idiotic partner too.
"Oh guys, I remembered that I have something to do. Benja, could you watch Babs for a few minutes?" Harleen asked and looked at me.
"Sure Harleen, don't worry." I said while looking at the girl.
"Great, I'll see you both in the coffee cart at 4:00." Harleen said as she kissed Barbara on the forehead before running off.
Harleen would run off while pushing two people away, but suddenly the door was kicked open by a girl. The girl wore a costume similar to that of a clown, the color of the costume was black and red with white details, the girl wielded a huge red hammer with a smiling face. When Barbara saw this person, she was very surprised since she did not expect to see them here.
"Harley Quinn !." Barbara said as she watched as the villain was going to attack Robin.
Harley Quinn was going to attack Robin when suddenly she saw that I would face her with my hereo costume and make some movements with her arms to create a tornado under her to keep her in the air, Barbara seeing that Harley was in the air quickly went to attack the villain causing Harley Quinn to leave the room. Barbara and I look at each other with smiles as we bump our fists in teamwork.
"The costume contest is brats later, security !." Robin yelled, drawing the attention of two guards.
The guards forced us out of the room, causing Barbara and I to fall to the floor as the men closed the door.
"Batgirl, remind me that when I meet Batman I'm going to talk seriously to him about Robin." I said annoyed, but at that point Barbara and I had to dodge a hammer attack from Harley Quinn.
"Get out of my way you idiots, that jerk Robin must take his punishment. And I'll be the one to give it to him!", Said Harley Quinn as she looked at us.
"Trust me Harley Quinn, I'd love to see that. But we're not going to let you." Barbara said seriously. As tempting as it was to teach Robin a lesson, we had to do what a hero always does. Protect people.
Robin would be signing autographs and taking pictures while her fans lined up, Harley Quinn would see this as a great opportunity to attack Robin so she would cut a cable that held one of the lights of the place causing it to fall on Robin.
Before the light hit Robin, Barbara quickly pushed Harley Quinn away and she would use her grapple gun to prevent Robin from being hit.
Robin was now talking to some reporters without realizing that one of them was Harley Quinn in disguise. The villain would give Robin the microphone but it was actually a grenade.
Barbara would try to follow Harley Quinn but upon noticing the grenade that Robin was holding, she would quickly put the safety back on the grenade so that it would not explode before continuing to run.
Batman's partner really doesn't like being around a lot of people, so he was now leaning against a wall while looking at his cell phone.
Harley Quinn saw this as an opportunity and would shoot Robin a dart. Before the dart hit Robin, I quickly stood in front of the projectile and I would use a fake Robin that would be pierced by the dart.
Robin was now in the food court, he was going to eat a hot dog before the costume contest started, Harley would knock out the vendor and give Robin a dynamite on the hot dog buns.
Batman's partner was about to eat the dynamite when a strong gust of wind caused the fuse of the explosive to go off while I looked at this in the distance with a smile. I would have liked to make it closer, but surely Robin would have flown away. He couldn't deny that it would be fun to do that as revenge for what he did to Barbara.
There was a group of people organizing action figures that were exclusive, at that moment one of the employees opened the access so that anyone could have one. At that moment there was a strong earthquake as a large group of people entered like a stampede of animals.
Harley Quinn smiled when she saw this and she would be about to push Robin so that people crush him but at that moment Barbara and I jumped on her believing that nothing bad would happen. But sadly, the three of us would end up being crushed by the large number of people.
"Agh, Batgirl. Are you okay?" I asked while feeling great pain throughout my body. My stamina may have increased a bit, but that didn't make me very resistant to anything.
"Yes, and you Harley Quinn?" Barbara asked as she looked at the villain, maybe he gets on badly with her. But she wanted to make sure the villain hadn't been seriously injured.
"Yes, thanks for asking." Harley said. At that moment the three of us saw with amazement how people were fighting like animals over the action figures.
"Wow, why are they fighting over a simple action figure?" ask surprised.
"I think it would be good to find out." Harley said, at that point I would use my ivy element to grab one of the boxes to see what it was. When the three of us saw the doll we would have a drop of anime-style sweat as well as an expressionless face.
"Are they fighting over this?" I asked with a trembling brow. It was an action figure of a muscular Robin.
"The three of us agree that this is the worst action figure ever, right?" I asked as he threw the box in the trash.
"Yes / Totally agree." Barbara and Harley quinn said at the same time.
It was 04:00. Harleen, Barbara and I were sitting while we had our drinks, while we had a face that clearly showed that we were very tired.
"Good God, I'm so tired." I said while having some soda.
"We are two now." Harleen said as he took her soda too.
"So, did you do what you had to do?" Barbara asked as she looked at her friend.
"Not." was the only answer Harleen could give due to exhaustion. "You know something guys, this year's Gotham City heroes and villains convention. It sucks." said Barbara's best friend making the redhead spit out the juice she was drinking.
"Harleen, just because the convention was ruined for me doesn't mean it was ruined for you too. You must do whatever you want. Do it for me, please." Barbara said as she looked at Harleen before hugging her.
"Barbara is right, you must do what you want Harleen. If you are going to do something, do it now, for Barbara and for me." I said as I looked at Harleen. The girl glanced at Robin who was greeting her fans and a smile would appear on the girl's face.
"You're right guys, the convention isn't ruined yet. And I have a feeling it could do better for both of us." Harleen said before leaving. Barbara and I just stood there but the redhead would notice a nostalgic smile on me.
"You know Babs, Harleen reminds me of someone. He reminds me of my best friend." I said smiling.
"Seriously?." Barbara asked curiously.
"Yes, his name was Daniel. He was my best friend, he was a very nice, friendly, funny boy and a great person. We met at my art and music school, he used to be good at beatboxing and he was always very good." I said smiling while looking at the ceiling.
"Wow, what happened to him?" Barbara asked curiously.
"Well, his family had to move from New York to go to Spain because of his parents' new workers, so we have communicated through messages and calls. I just hope he's okay, even though I'm sure of that." I said as he closed his eyes and laughed a little at the memories that went through my mind.
"I'm sure she must miss you." Barbara said as she put a hand on my shoulder.
"Thanks, Babs." I said smiling while hugging the girl. Barbara returned the hug with a smile but suddenly we both heard a crazy laugh and when we turned around we would see Harley Quinn driving the Joker's steamroller while she went to where Robin was.
"Oh no, Robin move !!." cried Barbara but it was late. The steamroller had completely crushed Robin.
Barbara and I quickly went to where Robin's body was. Maybe we both had a huge feeling of hatred for Batman's partner, but it was not great enough to wish him death. We felt completely useless seeing that we failed and now Robin was dead.
"Oh Robin, I'm so sorry. This is all my fault !." Barbara said as she started to cry, when I saw the redhead cry I couldn't help but hug her tightly, a gesture that she returned in the same way.
"Guys !. What happened!?." Harleen asked as she pretended not to know anything about what happened.
"He's dead, Robin is dead." Barbara said while she was still hugging me.
"Yeah, but he's not the idiot who laughed at you and humiliated you. I thought you'd be happy." Harleen said as he looked at Barbara.
"I hate him. True, I hate Robin but I don't want to witness his untimely death either." the redhead said before hugging her friend tightly.
"Out of my way, you idiots." The three of us looked ahead to see Robin walking as her fans followed him.
"Okay everyone, the costume contest starts now and your beloved Robin will do something everyone loves. Judge them." Robin said as she looked at her fans who were delighted to hear that.
"Is he lived!?." Harleen, Barbara and I yelled at the same time. At that moment we would see a teenager disguised as Robin take the body of the supposed Robin who had been crushed revealing that it was only a cardboard figure.
"Stop hugging the figure." said the teenager as he took some photos with the fake Robin.
"Figure?." Harleen asked confused.
"Isn't that amazing Harleen !!. He's alive, Robin is alive !!" Barbara said excitedly as she went to the costume contest.
"Ha, who would say?" Harleen said with a smile.
"You're right Harleen, let's go. Barbara is waiting for us." I said as I entered the costume contest. Harleen was going to do the same until she remembered something that would leave her petrified, under Robin's seat there was a small explosive surprise in her seat.
"Oh rays." the girl said as she began to sweat.
The costumes were of multiple heroes, different villains that Batman had faced and even a Superman costume. However, Harley Quinn would jump on stage and use her hammer to knock all the competitors out of the front.
"Out of my way, you fools !." Harley yelled but at that moment Barbara and I would put us in front of her.
"Get away Harley Quinn, you're not going to hurt Robin." Barbara said as she took a batarang from her belt while I on the other hand would create two fireballs.
"Wait, I'm trying to save the idiot." Harleen said as he dodged Barbara's batarang.
"Nice try Harley Quinn, but your jokes are over now." I said as my fire whips came out of the fireballs and I would start using them to attack the villain.
Robin just stared at his cell phone in boredom before yawning however he would notice something in his chair and when he looked down he would pull out a bomb the size of a soccer ball.
When Harley Quinn, Barbara and I saw this we quickly jumped on Robin to remove the bomb but to our bad luck, a lot of the people who were watching the costume contest would notice the bomb.
"Is that a bomb?" asked one of the people in the place.
Suddenly all the people would start running for their lives while Harley Quinn was looking for a way to get rid of the bomb. However a person would push the villain causing the bomb to be thrown anywhere.
The bomb was going directly to where a baby dressed as the Joker was, but before she could get to where the baby was, Barbara would use her grapple gun to prevent little Joker from touching the bomb. Barbara would start looking for some way to turn off or undo the bomb until she would see Harley Quinn and me in the distance.
"Batgirl, over here !!" I screamed as I reached out to catch the bomb, Barbara didn't think about that and she would drop the bomb at Harley and I while we figured out what to do until the villain came up with something.
"Wizard, over here !." Harley Quinn said as she led me to a small part of the convention where there was a large vault. Without thinking, I dropped the bomb inside the vault and Harley Quinn would close the door while we waited for the explosion until.
Harley and I turned around and the villain froze to see that the vault belonged to the Joker.
"AHH !!!. NO !." Harley yelled as he entered the vault and pulled out the bomb.
"Wizard, why is it so difficult to get rid of a simple bomb?" the villain asked as she looked at me.
"Trust me, I'd like to know that right now." I said as I looked at the pump with a drop of sweat. We both quickly ran to the costume contest while looking for the closest exit but by mistake Harley would drop the bomb in Robin's hands. Batman's partner looked at the bomb in terror until the villain quickly removed it.
"Harley !." at that moment Barbara would use the fire extinguisher to put out the fuse of the bomb but she would only end up covering Harley's face with foam.
"Hold the bomb!" Harley screamed as he handed the bomb to Barbara, the villain would use the fire extinguisher and luckily the three of us could see that the bomb was now completely off.
At that moment, everyone in the room started clapping as the three of us began to greet the audience. Robin looked at this in annoyance as Harley Quinn, Barbara and I shook hands, at which point Barbara and I looked at Harley with a serious look. When the villain realized this, she would start running while Barbara and I started to follow her.
We searched everywhere, even all over Gotham City but we lost sight of Harley Quinn so we decided to head back to the convention to spend the remainder of the day with Harleen.
"Hey guys, I'm sorry the Gotham City Heroes and Villains Convention was a failure, but I have a present for both of you. Babs, this is yours." Harleen said as she gave the redhead a small gift.
"Oh, Harleen. You didn't have to." Barbara said, but when she opened it she would be confused to see an autographed photo of Robin.
"I didn't know you were a fan of Robin, so I looked it up and asked him to sign it for you." Harleen said as she remembered.
Flashback
"Sign !!. Sign, now !!." Harley Quinn yelled as she raised her huge hammer to a terrified Robin who signed the photo without saying anything.
End of Flashback.
"And Benja, Bábs told me that you really like anime and manga. So I have this for you." Harleen said as he gave me my gift, when I opened the gift my eyes started to shine like stars.
"Impossible. The special edition Naruto Shippuden and Batman manga, the rarest comic in the world where Naruto helps Batman stop the Joker. How did you get it !?." I said as I looked at Harleen in disbelief.
"I have my methods." Harleen said with a smile, she had actually stolen it when no one was watching. It was a clean and smooth robbery.
"AH! Thank you Harleen, thank you, thank you, thank you !!." I yelled as she hugged the girl, Harleen blushed a bit due to how sudden she was but she would accept the hug and return it with a smile. Barbara did not understand why she felt uncomfortable, she was the best friend of hers in the whole world, but. Why did she make her feel weird to see Harleen blush when she hugged her?.
"Come on Benja, the bus is going." Barbara said as she got on the bus.
"Sure Babs. Bye Harleen, hope to see you again soon." I said as she got on the bus. Barbara and I started to say goodbye to the girl while Harleen had a big smile.
"Maybe we'll see each other again soon, Benja. After all, there is one more surprise for you two." Harleen said as she pulled out a Metropolis school brochure from her pocket as she smiled. It was only a matter of time to see each other again, very soon.
