Chapter 17:explaing death
On the opposite side of the mistral kingdom right now as the others where looking for a certain rabbit in the city right now. Right now at a small ice cream parlot still in their funeral attire was vance with some others at that moment.
Mainly being katherine, arrastra, maggy, fenix, bastet, dravan and ambrosie right now. As they all decided to head here with some of the others mainly the younger kids here as the others searched for the rabbit. They guessed she wouldn't head back to the apartment which would be obvious for her.
Though they were doing their best to console bastet right now who was crying for her parents. But what hurt her heart worst was how she needs to explain to her daughter what it means for someone to die.
Bastet was sobbing right now covering her face as consoling her was lilith who was rubbing her back in a circular motion at that moment shushing her for a bit.
"Bastet it'll be alright everything will be alright where here for you"lilith softly said
"She right dear. Look if you want we could ask to schedule some appointments for you and squeeze you in. she already got her plate full with some of the others. "Kathrne added
"Yeah we paid her the blood money we got but look evertyhing will be alright"amrboise consoeld but the women sniffed as her makeup was smeared with tears running down her facce
"How is everything going to be alright!"bastet shouted as they rented out the place from the owner who found it strange. But they told them why as they understood giving them the place for a couple hours right now.
"Theirs no need to raise your voice dear. I know it hurts your parents are gone but we need to calm down"Arrastra claming said
Bastet then looked outside of the parlor window to see her daughter at a nearby playground with some others.
"How is it alright!? I have to tell my little girl that she won't be seeing her grandparents every again! How can i break it to a little girl on what it means to die!?"bastet cried with a very horse voiced right now
Fenix sighed rubbing his face with tears still their as he walked over guiding his wife to sit down.
"Dear don't worry everything will be alright. We just need to figure out how we'll break it too her on what happened. Somehow"fenix admitted because he feels like he can't do it
Dravan noticed his current expression filled with doubt"fen…do you think you can't tell your little girl what happened? Do you really think your not great enough to tell her what happens to someone when they die"he asked

This angered amrboise who shoved back as this anger fenix. He activated his semblnaceas he grew claws with his size starting to increase. Then he roared tackling him to the ground slamming him on the ground straddling him slamming him cotnisounyl onto the ground several times hard.
"You dam bastard! If you did more then my little girl wouldb't have lost her grandparents! My parents are still here but she was always so excited to meet my wifes! Leo always tried to be kind to her and this how he gets repaid for it!"he roared in rage
Immediately dravan and arrastra pulled him off the man who coughed from the sudden slam. Then katherine walked over slapping him across the face as he gorlwed
"Fen! I suggest you stop this behavior right now your embarrassing yourself right now because i know your hurt. But not like this"katherine said before guiding bastet over who had tears cotnisnly running down her face
"She right look bas needs you right now. We can…explain it too her if you want"maggy offered
It was pure silence for a little bit as he started to shrink down in size as his fangs and claws shrunk as well. Immediately the man wrapped his arms around his wife holding her close as she wepted into his chest for the father and mother she lost.
Though as they were about to head out to break the news to the girl fenix told them who he wanted to do it

The lynx thought long and hard on that because he found it so hard to grieve for his dad by himself. But bastet and fenix comforted him during that terrible day in his life along with taking him in when he had no where to go. The lynx wanted to find soemway to return their kindness

The lynx then ordered a simple vanilla and chocolate swirl bowl of iceceam. As he got some rocky road in a bowl himself. Then he extied the store as he started to walk over to the playground where some of them where at right now.
As he walked over it was a simpel playground with jungle gym equipment their for the kids to paly out. Along with a basketball court that was big enough for them to play on. As right now playing on it was asaka as her and aether where playing tag with diamona kids at that moment running around all over the place with each other
Luna was playing in a sandbox right now patting the sand until she tried to eat it. As her mother stop her picking her up shaking her head at her.
Their was also sienna watching them holding sorrel in her arms. As helping her keep an eye on the kids was neo and jazmine as the two kept them entertained at that moment. Their was also colt watching over them as well.
"I can't belvie that rabbit girl ran away after the funeral. She gonna be alright?"colt asked
"I'm sure she will be….sometimes its hard for someone when they lose a teammates. For her she lost all three of them which might have caused her to break down from their deaths"megan softly replied
Sizz sighed crossing her arms"well at least we can keep the kids here preoccupied well most of them. Since you all left the little uras back at the apartment"she replied

"Heyya sweetie everything okay over here?"vance asked startling the girl

"Uncle vnace"he cried with tears still as her voice sounded a little sore. Vance just placed a hand on the back of her ehad gently rubbing it in a circular motion to comfort her.
"It'll be okay sweetie. Everything will be okay right now"vance shushed as they held the embrace for a minute until sepearitng.
Then she immediately looked outside the small window staring at all the other kids playing down their as she looked like she wanted to join them. But still looked confused what today was exactly becuase she didn't understand any of this.
"Hey why don't you go and join them to play. It'll be fun"vance paused before grabbing the bowl of ice cream he got her

"I want grandma and grandpa to eat with me. The mean people put them down in those boxes. They need to wake up from their nap"lavi argued making him look down upset right now sighing because hes never dealt with this before
The first time he saw death was only just at four years old which is something he never wants anyone to go through. It something that is heart breaking to even be told that young he kinda feel like shes in her shoes right now.

Vance shook his hand placing a thump on her cheek whipping the tear away"not exactly sweetie. Look your grandparents might have been around alot longer as you got older. But well some mean people took them away too soon from this world. "He cotninued

"Because some people are just cruel. But your grandpa did what was best for this place right now. Do you see the city right now infront of us…how its still here"he asked as she looked at the city right now confused a little but nodded to him as he smield petting her head
"Your grandpa made some bad calls but he realized his mistakes. He died peacefully with your grandma the two of them won't be coming back again. But…"he stopped seeing her about to start crying again as he pulled her into a loving embrace holding her close at that moment to comfort her the best he could feeling the tears on his chest
"But they'll always be watching over you in the skies. They'll watch you grow over the years they might not be here physically. But they'll be here by your side if you ever feel a brief chill sometimes even when its warm. It might be them or even sometimes people come back as animals. To even watch over them over the years"vance said
Until suddenly a meowing noise could be heard close by. He turned to the source that it belong to that being a pair of abssinain cats. One was tan in color with grey around its neck as the other was light brown with an imprint og a lion paw it seems. Lavi looked up as the two cats stared at them
Vance smiled chuckling as he gently reached out to them expecting to be scratched. But instead the two cats purred against his hand hoping down joining them. One of them walked over to his bowl of ice cream licking it.
"Hey thats not yours…well seems that maybe your grandparents are already watching you. Sent these two too maybe comfort you"he said letting her go as some snot was on her nose. But the young cat reached out toward the feline licking up some icecream
Then it stared at her with brown eyes as they met with heres. It came forward nuzzling against her leg purring as she smiled a little giggling
"Does that mean grandma and grandpa aren't coming bad?"She saldy asked as he nodded rubbing her head gently
"It does but…don't be too sad. They'll always be watching you happy your safe and happy. Now lets enjoy some ice cream with our little friends here. Then you can go play with everyone else okay"he said
The little lion nodded grabbing her bowl eating it as one of the cat meowed for some. As she pulled away but the cat leaped up onto her lap purring as the little then petted it. Vance sat their with her to console her hoping this got his explanation on what happeend to her grandparents

Calida giggled"that just funny although…i wonder if the others are having any lucky right now"she said

"I'm a murderer…i…that women is going to torture my twin sister…she going to kill her becuase of what i did"eria cried burying her hands into her face sobbing. Immediately calida pulled her into an embrace muttering sweet nothings into her ears as she cried into her chest.
Mercury contemplated on what to say next to her"do you think that if you knocked him off he wouldn't try to kill her again?"he asked as she stared up slightly still shaking nodding her head
"Then what you did was justified. I mean it wasn't defending yourself look…their are people blood on my hands. Something that sitll haunts me at time but…"blake paused clenching her hands tight sighing
"But you did what was right. I know your being a hypocrite right now since you told your sister not to kill anyone. But…if i was in the same position with jazmine i'd do it in a heartbeat"she added
Perun nodded sighing walking over as he gestured to let her go. Caldia did and immediately he pulled her into a loving embrace as she melted into his arms.
"I…i hate that you had to do that to save your sister. But…he would have killed her….then…then it would have been like tanner all over again. That man…doesn't deserve your sympathy he was a monster that deserved to burn for what he did. You…"he paused to swallow hugging her tighter
"You helped avenge so many people family that were torn apart by him…do you think you could have done anything different?"he asked as she began to go through all the possibilite in her head seeing nothing changing as she shook her ehad
"Then it was justified look…sweetie maybe taking a few sessions with miss ghastly will do you good. Okay"calida suggested as she nodded as the two held it for ten minutes as she composed herself whipping the tears away

"I uh y-yeah…sorry i um.."She was stopped as perun flicked her forehead
"Oh don't be so dramatic if he did that to you my axe would chop his metal tail off. Now lets go search for scarlitina then relax tonight"perun said as she nodded in agreement as they continued the search. As she felt a little better talking about that now.
Meanwhile velvet was walking the streets of mistral as people went from place to palace not bothered to talk to her. But she could tell they were uneasy it seems but filled with joy that their kingdom is safe. That it didn't suffer the events of the fall of beacon all thanks to them. Honestly she woudln't blame them because she would be happy too.
Though she had so many other things on her mind right now. Mainly because the death of all three of her teammates all of them lost to one person. Scar watts, he took away her teammate fox by snapping his neck, then her parnter and now her own leader. But she was so stupid to not realize he would try to kill her. Coco died because of her being an idiot.
All she could think about is when she first met yatu during intaition that day in beacon two years ago. When they first became a team and formed so many fond memories together
Two years ago
It was two years ago in beacon right now as over the emerald forest where its iantiiation is held. Right now screaming in the air was velvet who was falling down to the ground caught offguard by what that headmaster just did
"Why would someone do this for an intaiton!?"velvet cried out in fear hoping she doesn't spalt on the ground and become a pancake
The rabbit was wailing in complete fear as she headed straight for a tree sheildign herself hoping she doens't become cripple because of the impact. But suddenly she felt someone grab her then immediately they wrapped their arms around her
Then the two of them immediately impacted the wall as she could feel them tumbling down the tree branches. But eventually after some time they soon fell hard to the ground as a dust cloud enveloped them for a moment
The small rabbit groaned slowly opening her eyes to thank this mysterious savior of hers
"Thank you for that…are you okay?"velvet asked with her head spinning around from the impact as someone spoke up
"I'm qutie alright. But are you okay do you have any injuries?"a soft spoken voice said. She looked up going eep seeing a very tall boy infront of which was yastu daichi because this was their first meeting together back then.
The two stood in an awkward silence as he laughed slightly.
"I guess your intimated by my size?"he simply asked making her become embarrassed
"No! I mean a little…wait no thats not right! I mean i did but i…i..um..uh..well.."She stammered her words together not being able to fix what she just said
Yatsu chuckled for a moment before offering her a hand as she shook it"its quite alright i'm used to people saying that to me. I'm yatsu daichi you are?"he replied
"Umm..i'm velvet scarltina…pleasure to meet you"velvet introduced as he raised an eyebrow
"I think i heard about you in the news. Your father is will scarltina an atlas scientist you made a camera that speiclize with hard light dust projections"yatsu said as she changed her tune
"Yeah! I mean it was just a prototype at first…but my dad showed it to the military. They actually found the desing interesting which gave me unlimted supply of hardlight dust. Its handy with my semblance since i can mimic people fighting styles. Kinda of the main reason i didn't use it during the fall"velvet explained very fast and quickly as he chuckled at that
"Let me guess. I assume you didn't snap any photos that would help you"yatsu asked as she blushed bright red with her ears flopping over nodding yes
"Well stick by me and we can make it out of this. Were partner i guess lets move on"yatsu said as the two continue theii path forward. After some certain events they managed to survive the initiation exam along with meeting two strange people some girl in a beret and a boy who seemed rather quiet.
At the intatio ceremony ozpin was announcing the teams for the school until he called out one more team
"Since these four recovered the pawn pieces. May coco adel, fox allsiter, yatsu daichi and velvet scarltina step foward"ozpin said as the rabbit did with the three onto the podium
"You four will now be known as team CFVY or coffee. Your leader will be…coco adel. Congratulation you four welcome to beacon"ozpin said as they stepped off the platform as immediately the rabbit felt someone pinch her hips as she sqeaked
"Hey theirs another girl on my team. Awww you look cute…hey you looking to mingle"coco teased making her push her away
"Great! My team leader is a pervet!"she shirekd
Fox sighed"lets not do that. Seriously adel its a little annoying how your doing this again. Back in phraos she did this to her gal pals. Names fox"he introduced
Coco grinned"but i had a rep their for being a heartaker and breaker. Though what about your bunny ears?"she asked as the rabbit stared at her
"Okay its nice to meet you. But…you aren't my type at all sorry"velvet rejected that offer immediately
"Drats. Eh whatever though lets go get to know each because i'm beat!"coco said as she guided them onward as this was the day they became a team until years later she was all that was left"

As that memory ended she remembered all the fond times they spent together in their years at beacon. Coco did keep good on her word making herself known as the girl who dated several people in beacon and broke their hearts. Those nights she brought back girls or boys their was awkward at best
But shockingly she noticed her having eyes on two first years which made her leader just mess with her. Though she kinda misses how she would mess with her at the most incovneint at times. Soon enough she found herself at the apartment they were all staying at sighing walking inside
As she stepped inside she walked passed the lounge where adam and zane was. But keeping someone occupied was adam who was playing a video with piper and failing at it zane noticed her walking by
"Vel! Hey your back early where are the others because umm well i thought i make something for everyone"zane called out to his girlfriend who slowly walked in as piper noticed her running over hugging her legs
"Pretty bunny"piper cutely said as velvet waved to her gently
Adam sighed"well your back early than the rest. I assume the service went well"he softly asked as she stared at the ground for a moment beginning to shake. Then gently pushed piper away running away from the two. Immediately the two shared a look
"Hey…do me a favor keep an eye on her. I'll go talk to her okay"he said as he nodded. Then zane began to move at a slow pace after her with his crutches. Velvet practirualry slammed through the door into her room. Then she jumped onto the bed burying her face into her pillow crying right now
The rabbit kept sniffling and sobbing like her heart was broken because it was. She kept sobbing her eyes out that hurt because she all that left of her team…she might be next or worse someone she loves is next. As she kept crying for a while finally making his way was zane.
He made his way over placing his crutches on the bed as he sat down next to her.
"Hey bun…you doing okay over here?"he softly asked as she looked down sniffing
"No…i'm stupid…i'm so stupid…its my fault coco dead…its all my fault"velvet cried loudly stunning him. Immediately he reached over pulling her up to sit and face him. She had tears staining her cheeks as he whipped them away with his thump
"Why would you even say that? Its not your fault shes gone….vel…come on don't talk like that okay"he soflty consoeld as she looked down still crying
'But it is…i..if i didn't get into his crosshairs she woudln't have died. He…he killed my entire team…and..he killed my partner…he snapped fox neck…he…he shot my only teammate left. I'm…i'm all thats left…"she paused as her lips quviered as she choked on her next words
"He might kill me next if we head to atlas…i might be next or…or you"she said crying her eyes out. Immediately he reached over pulling her into a comforting embrace placing his chin ontop of her head placing a hand on her back rubbing it in a circular motion
"That won't happen…look i know it hurts shes gone. God i…i should have paid attention more…but…dammit its not your fault. Do you really think she'd blame you?"he asked as she nodded her head
"Yes"she replied
"No…no she woudln't. Her uncle doens't blame you at all she did what a leader would do for her team. I'm a leader myself and i understand why she did it. Because she cared for you like family…she didn't want to lose her only teammate to him. We could never predict who might die next. But…"he paused pulling her up seeing she was still crying as he whipped her tears away with his thumbs at the same time
"But she happy your safe. Because i promise that he won't hurt you…he'l have to go through me. Besides…got a bone to pick with his mustached dad. Apple doesn't fall from the tree their…maybe i should kick him in the junk. Be an improvement for his tiny member down their"he said doing a quip actually
The rabbit sat their for a moment laughing slightly before lunging for an embrace hugging him crying still. She wasn't letting go as he sighed laying down holding her close
It was hours later as the others where coming back now unsuccessful in their search as they made several theories
"Dam it! She might have actually been taken by betty gang…ughhh this sucks i thought they were laying low"lazuli groaned as eden, may and onxyia had worried looks across their faces
"Well we can continue the search tomorrow. I mean i got connections all over town it shouldn't be hard to make a simple scroll call"lil miss offered as they stepped inside to reveal something on the couch rigth now. That being zane sitting their with adam.
"Oh sup guys your finally back. Made some dinner for you but uh got cold so we put it in the fridge"zane greeted
"Thats nice but uh well little brother…how do we break this too you"zoey said as someone bluntly said it
"Vevlet ran away from the funeral then we search for her and we coudln't find her"Aruna bluntly said making them stare at her as the two boys shared a look laughing slightly
"Why are you laughing about that?"jaune asked before he pointed to the couch as they walked over before seeing velvet fast asleep on the couch nuzzled up against piper holding her in her arms right now as they all breath a sigh of relief
"She came back early assumed you guys where consoling bastet. Though you guys still hunger?"adam asked as they liked the sound of that having some dinner together for the night happy their friend is safe. As velvet was smiling in her sleep relived to hear some comforting words right now.
