She manage to pick up the milk shake and drank some of it and put it back in it spot.
"What do you feel like for dinner tonight?" Nikki asked
"Steak"
"sounds good to me"
When Nikki park her car next to Hammersley they both got out of the car after Nikki grab her milk shake. They walk onto Hammersley and went to let Mike and Kate know about the scan results.
"Milk shake Nav" mike asked when he saw her drinking when Pete left to get change before he and Nikki headed home.
"Cravings sir, that and milk bottle and milk shake lollies"
"Well at least they not strange cravings"
"True sir"
"how your shore posting" Kate asked
"It good, commander Marshal under stands when he see me either with milk shake in hand or sucking on milk bottle and milk shake lollies"
"Ok you starting to show" Kate said
"I know, I'm waiting for my maturity uniform to arrive"
"i know what that was like"
"same here. So sir why are you interested in Ray Walsmen for" Nikki asked
"how do you know that I'm interested in him" Kate and Nikki laugh. Mike relies what he said
"Very funny you two. He up to some thing but don't know what"
"like with Gallagher"
"Yes"
"Well sir be careful you don't want to step on any toes" mike grin
"no I don't"
they talk till Pete return then Nikki said her good byes to them both before she and Pete left for home. They stop off at the super market so Nikki could get some steak and milk bottles and milk shake lollies before heading home for the night.
When they arrived home Nick just arrived home at the same time Nick gave Pete a hug before Pete pick up the groceries bags and the three of them walk in side. Pete spent time with Nick while Nikki went and got dinner on.
The next morning Nikki pick Flipper up and drove to NAVCOM. They talk the whole time till Nikki park her car in the under ground car park. When they both got out Nikki smile when she saw who else just showed up
"flipper grab your sea bag"
"Why"
"that why" She turn to see who was getting out of his car.
"Who that"
"that mike Flynn and Kate McGregor"
"ok" she got her sea bag out from back seat then close the door so Nikki could lock it since she got her shoulder bag and hat. Then they walk over to where mike is
"morning sir, X" he turn around and smile
"morning Nav" Mike said smiling
"morning Nav"
"Lieutenant commander Mike Flynn, lieutenant McGregor, this is lieutenant Mackenzie fisher, flipper, she the one you both choice from the list"
"Ah yes hello flipper"
"sir" they shook hands then she shook Kate hands
"your XO" flipper said
"Yes did Nav tell you"
"Yes she did"
"Ok" mike and Kate got there sea bags out of there car then mike lock it
"Have you got a place to stay flipper" mike asked as they walk towards the elevators
"Yes sir I move in yesterday"
"that great news"
"she lives in the yellow house across the road from me sir" Nav said smiling
"that house, it a great house"
"I know sir"
"I fill her in about the crew sir except for Pete replacement since I don't know who it is sir"
"What have you told her" Kate asked. Nikki smile
"What the crew is like"
They talk till they walk on the the ground floor of NAVCOM and walk out side where navy car is waiting to take mike and Kate to Hammersley. They and flipper pass there sea bags to the driver then they return back in side with Nav.
They talk and laughter till they walk into the ball pen. Nikki went to her desk while Flipper, Mike and Kate went to see Steve.
Twenty minutes later Nav gave them a quick wave as they walk towards the exit. Then she return back to work. The crew was taking boxers on board when the navy car stop and they all got out and walk to the back of the car where the driver pass them there sea bags and mike brief case before they saluted the driver then walk over to the gangway and up onto Hammersley.
Kate interduce flipper to some of the crew as they walk down to there cabin where they would be sharing. They sorted there bags out and got change before Kate went to do her job while flipper went to see Mike again.
Hour later Hammersley left port with Pete temporary replacement name tinny cause he was six foot five and soil built.
The next day Nikki kiss and hug Pete before she left for work since he taking a taxi to the air port since he flying to Sydney to be with his mum. He call her the night before only to find out from Victor that she still in hospital cause blood test reveal she got a low iron count and is anemic. So the doctors are giving her iron injections for the time being as well daily blood tests.
When Pete plane landed and he got his bag, he took a taxi strait to the hospital. When he arrived there he went to his mum room since Victor told him over the phone what room she is in.
When he walk into her room he saw how pail she look and notice she lost weight since last Christmas. Victor was there reading a book since Vicky was asleep. Victor look up when he heard the door open so he put book mark in his book and close it then put it on the table as she stood up. Pete put his bag down in corner so no one would trip over it then step ford to give his uncle a hug
"How is she"
"Weak, but she a fighter" Pete smile
"that she is" They both sat down.
Pete notice an oxygen tube up her nose, heart monitor beeping, and IV line with and IV bag going down one arm.
"What the latest on her condition?"
"It not good Peter" Pete turn to his uncle
"Meaning?"
"Her oxygen level drop during the night that is why she on oxygen and... her heart rate is all over the place, one minute it fast, next it drops."
"Has Lisa and Karen been inform"
"i called them last night, I left message on there cell phone"
"Ok, the chances of them calling to see how she is is...zero"
"Well at least they know"
"Yeah" They look at Vicky as she sleeps
"Peter" he turn to his uncle.
"Vicky and I talk the other day, she told me the four best things that happen in her life is one, marrying you dad, two giving birth to you and your sisters, three watching you get married and four becoming a grand mother."
"she told you that"
"Yes I said to her that when she was teenager and fallen in love for the first time she told me that the four things she wanted to do is get married, have three kids, watch kids get married and become a grand mother"
"She got what she wanted" Pete said
"Yes she has"
"Uncle how are you copping with all of this"
"Ok at the moment, at least I was perpeared not like what happen to my wife"
"And dad"
"True" They look at Vicky once again.
"How Nikki" Pete turn to his uncle
"she broke down after she spoke to mum the day of the ultra sound."
"Really"
"Yes she said it isn't fair"
"life isn't Peter"
"I know"
"Peter... Vicky change her will after you and Nikki got married"
"What?" Pete look shock
"Now that you and Nikki are married, she change it. She put both Nikki and Nick in her will" Pete was shock
"why would she do that"
"Cause she seen how happy you are since you and Nikki found each other and about Nick. She seen a big change in you and it a good change. When you told her about Nick, she was up set that you got Nikki pregnant before marrying her but after what you told her about what happen. She under stood and could see how happy you are."
"I didn't know that, she didn't tell me"
"It was because you are in love, love dose crazy things to people Peter"

"Peter I was with Vicky when she spoke to her lawyer when she change her will"
"Ok" Victor put his hand on Pete arm
"she leaving every thing but Karen and Lisa photos to you and Nikki"
"what are you saying"
"the house furniture, every thing including her life insurance. She leaving it to you"
"why" Victor smile
"Cause you done more for Vicky than your sisters have."
"I do what I did cause I love mum, I care about her"
"I know that. She told me about what you did with the reward money that you received."
"She was saving up to get it done and I saw the way she was having problems getting through the door way and going down the ramp. I wanted to make it easier for her"
"that you Have Peter. But did you keep the rest for your self" Pete smile
"Some, rest I paid of the lone that Nikki and I took out for the wedding and get new furniture for our hew home, bed and draws for Nick"
"Ok you use it wisely then"
"Yes we have, we still got some left in the bank"
"ok that a good idea"
"We keeping it for emergencies like this"
"What about work?"
"I've taken leave of absents, captain of Hammersley and commander Marshal knows and under stands"
"what about wages?"
"I'm not getting paid while I'm here but when the times comes I'll be given grieve pay but it only for two weeks cause mum being family"
"what are you doing about wages?"
"Nikki and I save up some just in case some thing like this happens, plus the bond money I got back after Nikki and I were married, plus the reward money and money from dad inheritances to fall a pond"
"you haven't touch your dad money"
"no uncle"
"You amaze me Peter"
"thanks"
"dose Nikki know about the money"
"Yes she dose and no she doesn't want any of it. She said that it should go to nick if any thing happens to me, I agree with her, and now with a baby on the way I'll have to change my will and so will Nikki"
"you got a good women there Peter"
"Yes I know, I love her so much, I'll die to protect her and our family"
"I know you will"
That night Pete called Nikki when he and Victor arrived back at the house for the night. Pete fill Nikki on what was happening with his mum so she would know what was going on.
Over the next two weeks Pete keep in contact with Nikki lettering her know what was happening with Vicky. She keep him up to date about Nick and his schooling.
"Oh Pete, Hammersley returning tomorrow so crew could have week shore leave like they suppose to"
"Really what happen"
"commander Marshal ask me to fix the rosters the way it suppose to be"
"Ok dose the crew know"
"Yes I told Mike my self since he called for some information"
"Ok I bet the crew would be happy"
"Yes they are, they got week shore leave then six week patrol"
"Ok. I got to go, uncle turn to cook dinner" Nikki laugh
"ok, I'll better go and dish up nick and mine. Give your uncle and mum a hug from Nick, baby and me" Nikki said smiling
"I will, love you"
"love you to" then they hung up.
The next day Hammersley came in to port. The crew looking ford to the week off that they were suppose to have. Mike and Kate went to Chinese restaurant for dinner after they been to see Steve about the three weeks patrol and about flipper and tinny.
"So what shall we do now" mike asked
"We could go home for an early night" mike smile
"i like that idea why not" then Mike cell phone rings so he get it out of his pocket to see who it is
"NAVCOM" then he answer it
"Hello mike Flynn... yes Nav... now, any reason why... what" he said yelling then calm down
"sorry Nav for yelling..." then he smile as he turn to look at Kate
"I'm sure she would... ok we will be there... yes we did have plans for an early night... can you send text messages to the crew... yes I know that they won't be happy... thanks Nav" then he hung up
"Crash sail" Kate said
"Yeah, Nav said we going to be transporting some one to Samurai island"
"Why us"
"We the only ship in port Kate"
"some shore leave"
"i know" they stood up and walk to the front of the restaurant where mike paid for there dinner while Kate called for a taxi.
Half an hour later Mike and Kate walk into NAVCOM. Nav walk over to them "so much for your shore leave" Nav said passing files to Mike
"Yeah who is it we taking to samurai islands" Kate asked
"SAS" Mike and Kate look at Nav
"the SAS"
"Yes it all in those files, commander Marshal not happy that the navy being use as a taxi to take them there but it came from fleet command"
"When are they due to arrive"
"All In the file sir"
"Thanks Nav"
"Here you go mum" they turn around to see Nick walking into the ball pen carrying two milk shakes, he pass one to Nav

"hi uncle Mike, auntie Kate, mum told me you have to leave again"
"Yes we do, have you been good for your mum" mike asked
"Yes but I'm worry about dad"
"Why that" Mike walk over and sat down in a chair close by then pull nick into his arms like what he dose to his kids
"when I talk to him he sound sad, I think it cause of Grandma not getting better"
"you know why she is sick"
"Yes it do, it not the cancer" mike look up at Nikki
"It her heart, Pete told me last night, it getting weaker"
"I'm sorry Nav" Kate put her arm around her shoulder
"I'll be ok, it Pete I'm worried about"
"dose Steve know"
"yes he dose sir."
"Ok if there is any thing you need, let Kate and me know" Nikki smile a little
"you will have to get in line sir" Mike and Kate grin
"We know" then he turn to nick
"You take care nick"
"i will uncle Mike" they hug once more before Mike stood up and pick up the files
"Is there any thing else we need to know Nav"
"Yeah after you drop off the SAS you will be doing your patrol, Kingston return they got electoral problems on board"
"ok thanks for telling us"
"no problems sir"
Mike and Kate walk out of the ball pen while Nikki and Nick walk over to where her desk is and sat down having there milk shakes. Nick was reading his book that he had to read for home work while Nikki did some work for an hour before they left to go to hungry jacks for dinner then home.
