"I will say babe, this is way less crowded than Miami this time of year. A bit bummed that there were no hotel rooms in Vegas and there weren't very many shows that were worth going to and there's no beach. Besides, it's raining in Miami this time of year, we would've been stuck inside.
I don't mind, there are plenty of things we could do inside. It's not raining here. We can go and sit out on the beach or go swimming. What do you want to do? Change and go swimming in the gulf? Or stay here in the room and get to know one another as a married couple?"
Jamie gave Eddie a thousand-watt smile and started removing his shirt.
"Stay in. We can go and sit on the beach or swim in the gulf later. I just want you right now Mrs. Reagan."
Eddie's eyes became wide, and a mischievous smile became plastered on her face, and she slowly began removing her clothes as well, slowly moving over towards the bed.
"That was amazing."
The couple lie back on the bed happily, soaking in the bliss they were in right now. Jamie pulled Eddie closer to him and kissed her forehead.
"You are the most beautiful woman I've ever met and am glad to be married to. Nothing is going to change that."
Eddie giggled and pulled him in for a kiss, it turned deep for a moment and when they broke for air, Jamie tried to stifle a yawn.
"I'll be back babe. Don't go anywhere."
Eddie giggled again and shook her head, holding in a snort.
"I'm not going anywhere babe. I'm right here."
After a leisurely long nap recovering from their lovemaking, the couple headed down to the beach and walked along the shoreline for a bit hand in hand talking about anything and everything.
"This is nice Jamie. No stress, no worries. No phones going off. No work. Can we just stay like this forever? Enjoying each other's company?"
Jamie thought on Eddie's statement for a moment and then placed a kiss to her neck.
"Sadly, we only have two weeks to enjoy all of this. You're going to love where I'm taking you tomorrow. See some of the sights. I'm not really an all-inclusive kind of guy. We'll have breakfast at the hotel tomorrow morning, but then we'll find somewhere else to eat."
Eddie's face lit up.
"Where are we going? As long as there is good food, I'm there."
Jamie laughed at Eddie. She loved food.
"It's a surprise. You're going to love it though. Great view of the gulf."
Eddie nodded and beamed pulling Jamie towards the water.
"Come on Mr. Reagan, I'm getting a little hot. Let's go cool off in the water."
Jamie knew Eddie hadn't meant anything by that. It was hot after all. Eddie pulled Jamie out of his thoughts when she splashed him with salty water. He pretended to be surprised.
"Hey! You are going to get it!"
Splashing Eddie back, Jamie smirked and pulled her into his arms both landing in the water, getting soaking wet. They sat for a few minutes in a fit of laughter. It had been a long time since Eddie had this much fun. Her parents had taken her to the Jersey Shore once as a little girl and she'd had a blast, but most of the time, they would spend time at these stuffy parties full of super rich financial advisors and accountants. She'd found them boring. Thinking about it now as an adult annoyed her. Jamie pulled her out of her thoughts with another splash.
"What was that for babe?"
Jamie gave a laugh and started kissing her neck.
"To get your attention. How about we…"
Eddie looked at Jamie and raised her eyebrows.
"Jameson Henry Reagan! There are other people on the beach! We can go back to our room and do that…"
Jamie half pouted and smirked but agreed, pulling Eddie up. He really liked the sky-blue bikini she was wearing. Then he gave her a mischievous smile.
"Ok but let's see who can get there first."
Eddie burst out laughing and ran after Jamie.
"No fair! You got a head start babe!"
"Jamie? Where are we going? We've been driving for half an hour, and you told me to dress in a tank top and shorts. With closed toed sandals."
Jamie kept his eyes on the road as a semi-truck passed them at 90 miles an hour. He gave a sigh.
"90 miles an hour for a semi is too fast."
Eddie sighed and took a drink of water from her water bottle.
"Why won't you tell me where we're going?"
Jamie smirked and kept driving.
"We're almost there babe. Put some extra sunscreen on when we get there. It's a tad bit hotter with the humidity being 100%."
Eddie huffed out a sigh and looked out the window, watching cars zoom by them.
"Ok."
Before long, Jamie and Eddie were parked in a parking lot that looked a lot like a state park perhaps. Jamie went around to the passenger side and opened the door for her, then taking her hand to help her out.
Closing the door, Jamie locked the car. Taking her hand, they started their trek through a thicket of palm trees. There were tons. Eddie looked around and smiled. Albeit a bit leery.
"Jamie, we're in the middle of the jungle. Look! A toucan!"
Jamie smiled at Eddie and took in the sights around them.
"We're in the jungle Eddie, but you'll like where we'll end up. The view is amazing. Want some coconut water? We really need to stay hydrated."
Eddie smiled and nodded.
"I've never had coconut water straight from the coconut before."
Jamie smirked and pulled her close.
"Neither have I babe."
A couple of minutes later, Jamie and Eddie were sipping on coconut water and continuing their way through the palm trees. About fifteen minutes later, they came to a clearing where there were remnants of what must have been buildings once upon a time. It was fenced off. A light bulb went off in Eddie's head.
"Oh. These are ruins of what could've been a city once."
Jamie nodded and led her over to a plaque that was both in English and in Spanish.
"Welcome to the ancient Mayan city of Tulum. This structure was built for the Mayan god of destruction Kulkulkan."
Eddie made a face but then smiled and looked around. Then she caught the view of the ocean.
"Jamie this is beautiful! Let's take a picture! Come on!"
Jamie laughed and took his phone out of his pocket, turning it on. He held his breath hoping that there wouldn't be any messages on it. There weren't. Sighing in relief, Jamie pulled Eddie next to him and took a selfie.
They then made their way down a stone path that led straight onto the beach where a boat was waiting for them. Jamie helped Eddie onto the boat first and then joined her. They were soon taking off on the water and were getting a different view of the beach and the ruins. Pulling her into a kiss, Jamie ran a hand through Eddie's hair. Breaking for air, the two rested their foreheads against each other.
"This is beautiful babe. Thank-you for this."
Jamie would do just about anything for Eddie. She was the love of his life, and she his. The rest of the day they spent out on the water and went snorkeling. They had never seen so many colorful fish before. Before long the sun was starting to get close to the horizon. They were now back on the beach and headed up the stone path back through the thicket of palm trees and to their car.
"Let's get back to the hotel. I don't want to be out here driving at night."
Eddie nodded and got into the car. She smiled all the way back to the hotel. When they got to the hotel room, she decided to wash the day off her. Coming back into the room, she felt refreshed. Jamie gave her a smirk and saw what she was wearing.
"Well, we may have to do some things when I get out of the shower."
Eddie smirked and climbed into bed.
"I'll be here lambchop."
"Babe! Come on! Are you done packing? We've got to get to the airport to catch our flight!"
Eddie huffed and drug her rolling suitcase and her carry on over her shoulder.
"Sorry! I had a hard time fitting my sandals and my hat in my suitcase."
Jamie gave Eddie a warm smile.
"It's ok, but we need to get to the airport, or we'll miss our flight!"
Eddie knew that. They'd spent the entire week in Cancun. Every night was a different place to eat. The food was fantastic. Great music. The flight from Cancun to Mexico City was a short one. About 40 minutes since it was a domestic flight and not international. Exiting the plane, the couple made their way inside the airport and to the baggage claim carousel.
After collecting their bags, they went outside and hailed a taxi. The taxi then drove for about 20 minutes until they reached a hotel that was only 2 blocks away from the city's center. Getting out of the taxi, Jamie paid the driver and got their luggage. He sighed.
"Let's go to the front desk and ask to change rooms. Our room is on the first floor and there's construction right outside."
Eddie nodded and followed Jamie inside the hotel. Hotel management was quick to give the newlyweds a new room at a discount. Entering their room, they found it quite spacious for looking like a smallish room. Setting their bags down, then opened them up. Jamie looked over at Eddie and gave her a tired smile.
"Early dinner? Or have a nap?"
Eddie knew what Jamie meant. A nap meant simply a nap and nothing else.
"A nap. Flying always makes me tired."
Jamie nodded and changed into some comfortable clothes and pulled the covers back, Eddie joined him soon after. Pulling her into his arms, they both fell into a light slumber. About an hour later he woke to find that Eddie was still asleep, he pushed a strand of hair out of her face. Then kissed the side of her neck, making her wake.
"Jamie… Not right now… I'm sleeping…"
Jamie knew Eddie was kidding, but she did get grumpy sometimes if you woke her up too soon.
"Let's get some dinner babe. I heard the restaurant on the top floor of this building has really great food."
That got Eddie's attention and she sat up bolt right.
"I can't wait to see what they have on the menu."
Jamie smiled, he loved when her eyes lit up, it made her look even more beautiful. Quickly changing into different clothes, Jamie and Eddie headed up to the restaurant in an elevator that must have been a hundred years old. Or at least from the 1930's.
They were only allowed to go up in it, but they would have to take a couple of flights of stairs down to the bottom. The waiter set them at the table next to a windowless lookout that gave a view of the open downtown square below them. Eddie stared down at all the people coming and going down below. Jamie squeezed her hand to get her attention.
"Did you decide what you wanted to eat babe?"
Eddie shook her head and looked back at the menu. Her mouth watered as she looked over every item. But her eyes roved back over to the thin steak with rice and beans and mole sauce. Jamie settled on the same. This surprised Eddie.
"You're having the same thing I am?"
Jamie nodded.
"I wanted to try something new. After all, trying different things is what life is about. I'm not picky when it comes to food. I'll try things once. If I don't like it, I won't eat it again."
Eddie laughed.
"Well, I never met a meat I didn't like."
Jamie squeezed Eddie's hand and gave her a soft smile.
"Babe, we only have two days left of our honeymoon. Tomorrow, I want to take you to Chapultepec Park. I guess it's this city's Central Park. But twice the size."
"Wow Jamie. You weren't kidding. This park is huge! People in the small man-made lake in paddle boats. Lots of food vendors. People selling flowers, kid's toys, all sorts of different knick knacks. Speaking of food, there's a stand over there selling pork rinds and grilled corn with chile. Can we get one of each?"
Jamie smirked and smiled.
"If you want to get a bag of pork rinds to take back home fine. You want some corn we'll get some. You sure it's not too spicy for you?"
Eddie rolled her eyes at Jamie.
"I never said I didn't like spicy foods. Pop's five alarm chili irritates my stomach sometimes. It depends on how spicy things are."
Jamie nodded in understanding.
"Ok, let's get some corn then."
Eddie's face lit up.
"Good. Cause I'm starving."
The newlyweds enjoyed their corn and continued walking through the park. They spent most of the day there. Before they knew it, it was getting dark outside and they needed to get back to the hotel and start packing, they had an early flight in the morning. When they got back to the hotel, Eddie pulled Jamie in for a kiss, letting it linger. Pulling away to catch their breath, she looked Jamie in the eye.
"Thank-you for this wonderful honeymoon. I would love to see more of this beautiful city. What surprised me was all the European architecture. Some date back to the 1500's. How big is the population of this city anyways. It seems a little more crowded than home."
Jamie rubbed his left hand on the back of his neck.
"Don't have a heart attack when I tell you the number. 30 million people. That's counting all 16 boroughs. You know we're 7,400 feet above sea level, don't you?"
Eddie furrowed her eyebrows and turned her head sideways at Jamie.
"That explains why the air is thinner up here. Doesn't bother me. It's kind of refreshing."
Jamie gave Eddie a quick peck to the lips and went about put his suitcase back together. It was going to be a long direct flight back home. But the honeymoon was totally worth it.
To Be Continued…
A/N: So, this chapter turned into something else. I'm basically writing some of these scenes from complete memory. Been to all three places. The hotel I'm referring to in this chapter with the old elevator was built in the early 1900's. It has the most beautiful sculptures and glass chandeliers inside. I don't remember what the name of it is though. So, what'd you guys think?
