Eddie stared at Jamie; she was getting slightly annoyed that he was hovering. She loved him with all her heart, he was the father of her child, but she didn't like him hovering all the time. He'd done it thousands of times in the last few weeks of her pregnancy.

"Eddie, Cora is being bottle fed right now because you're on high dose pain killers. I know you are missing that bond and closeness you two share. I understand that."

Jamie braced himself. He knew what was coming.

"Do you Jamie? Medically speaking you do. Physically no. You and Cora share a closeness only a father and daughter have. She's daddy's girl."

Eddie crossed her arms as Jamie walked around the room with Cora.

"Eddie. I don't want to argue with you. I love you. Both of you. You two mean everything to me. Let me see your head for a minute."

Sabrina came into the room just then and held her arms out to take Cora.

"Sorry Doctor Reagan. Eddie. I'm going to have to take Cora now. Going to get her settled for the night. She'll be able to go home tomorrow."

Jamie nodded. He'd either have to split his time here in the hospital with Eddie and at home with Cora. He could have pop and his dad help out too. He knew the whole family would help him out. Sabrina had left the room with Cora who was sleeping peacefully. Eddie spoke while Jamie looked under the bandage on the back of her head. Well, he couldn't really look under it, just at it, since the whole bandage was covering her entire forehead.

"Cora gets to leave the hospital. But what about me? When do I get to go home?"

Jamie sympathized with her. The fingers on his left hand gently touching the gauze on the back of her head, he kissed her forehead and pressed his own against hers.

"Four more days babe. The neurologist just wants to make sure you're doing ok. The bullet may not have hit any major parts of your brain that controls your motor function, your speech center, even your ability to understand speech. You got lucky honey. Even when your released from the hospital. I've still got to watch you. So, you'll have to put up with my hovering a little longer. I know how much you love it."

Eddie let out a snort. If she could've thrown her pillow at Jamie, she would've.

"Don't make me throw my pillow at you lambchop. It makes me dizzy right now with sudden movements."

Jamie pulled Eddie in for a gentle and light kiss.

"I'm just glad you're alright. You don't know how many times the thought of me losing ran through my mind. It was always devastating. My only question is: how could we not know that the bullet hit you? It showed up hours later. Unless it was some kind of slow leak."

Eddie shrugged her shoulders. Her arms felt so empty without Cora in them. She just wanted that closeness she shared with her daughter.

"You know I'm going to be hard to keep in this bed babe. You know I don't like sitting still."
Jamie sighed. He knew this was true. He wasn't one to listen to doctor's orders either. This coming from a doctor and doctors made the worst patients.

"I can't fault you there sweetheart. You should've seen me after I got my Appendix out. I fought against five nurses. I'm kind of embarrassed to say this, but they actually had to restrain me."

Eddie felt her jaw drop and then she let out a slight snort.

"Jamie Reagan! You? I have to say when I first met you, I thought you were a man who buried himself in his work. But then I saw you take care of Sierra and Rosie and I put that assumption to bed. You take your job seriously, you care for others. That is your best quality babe."

Jamie kissed Eddie's forehead. He noticed she was uncomfortable.

"Thanks babe. You look like you need some more Morphine. Do you want me to call the nurse?"

Eddie nodded and swallowed the bile that was beginning to rise.

"Yes please. Only because I think it's wearing off, and I feel like I'm going to lose my dinner. I'm really dizzy."

Jamie adjusted the pillow behind her head and ran a hand through her hair.

"Try and relax babe. Close your eyes and breathe."

Eddie closed her eyes and took a few deeps breaths. She could still feel his hand and his fingers running through her hair. A minute later she felt something cool go into the iv in her arm. Then the pads of Jamie's thumbs on her cheeks.

"How does that feel babe? Better?"

Slowly opening her eyes, she looked straight back into his green eyes.

"Much. Thank-you."

"Hey. How's my sweet girl doing?"

Eddie stopped mid-chew of her green Jello and looked up at pop.

"I'm ok pop. I've been better."

Pop walked over to the bed and squeezed Eddie's hand, then kissed her forehead.

"You're a fighter Eddie. I see it in your eyes. You don't take crap from anyone. Now the least I can do is make you a home cooked meal. It'll taste much better than that sorry excuse for green mush they call jello. How can you eat that?"

Eddie only smiled and took another bite, then swallowing.

"This green Jello has a great mouth feel. I'll never say no to your cooking pop. You know me, anything you put in front of me, I'll eat."

Pop's face lit up.

"Great! It's settled then. I'll bring you something extra special tonight."

Now it was Eddie's turn to smile brightly.

"Sounds good pop. Thanks for stopping by. I really miss being at the table with the family."

Pop gave another kiss to Eddie's forehead.

"You just focus on getting better sweetheart. We're all here for you. Well, I'd better get going, cooking doesn't get done all by itself. Especially if I keep standing here jawing all day."

Eddie gave a quiet and tired laugh.

"Can't wait to see what you bring pop."

Pop began to whistle as he went out the door. Jamie shook his head and Eddie went back to eating her green Jello. As pop left, a knock on the door and then Frank entered.

"How are you doing sweetheart?"

Eddie sat up straighter and ate the last bite of her jello before responding.

"Like I told pop, I'm ok. I've been better. Pop said he's bringing me dinner later. I can't wait to see what he brings."

Frank gave a small smile.

"Pop would cook for a whole army if he could. I'm glad he's bringing you food. Hospital food is something to be desired. I don't know how you eat that green mush that's a sorry excuse for Jello."

Eddie shot Jamie a look.

"I see where dad gets it. From pop. He said the exact same thing. I don't know what you guys have against green Jello. It's good."

Jamie jokingly placed a hand up against Eddie's bandaged forehead.

"You must be running a fever Eddie."

Eddie play swatted at his hand.

"Hey! Next time you end up in here, and you're stuck with green Jello, and it's what you've got to eat, remember me in this moment. Enjoying this delicious cup of Jello. Mmm."

Jamie pulled Eddie towards him slightly and kissed her bandaged forehead. Frank gave a slight laugh then became serious.

"On a different note. I will have two officers posted on your door at all times. Just because Martin Hollinson is dead doesn't mean he doesn't have more men out there that were loyal to him. He had a lot of connections. My job is to protect the men and women of the NYPD. You are one of 35,000.

On a lighter note: I'm putting you in for the medal of valor. We'll have the ceremony after you've left the hospital and healed up. Carson Stevenson is also getting an award to his bravery and essentially risking his own life to ensure the safety of one of my officers."

Eddie had a lot on her mind, and there was something that she wanted to air out with Frank. It'd been bugging her for the last several days.

"Sir, if I may: something's been bugging me for the last few days. Me getting shot, it's not going to affect me going back on the job is it?"

Frank sat for a moment and let Eddie's words sink it.

"You are one of my best officers. As far as I'm concerned, you are still on maternity leave. Talk to your doctors and let me know. I'm the police commissioner but I am also family. If you give me permission to know your medical status, I'll talk to your doctors."

Eddie nodded and gave a small smile.

"Understood sir."
