Jamie looked down at Cora. He couldn't get enough of her. He lay on his stomach on him and Eddie's king bed. He delicately played with her tiny feet and then kissed them.
"Daddy loves these tiny feet. You are so beautiful baby girl. I can't believe you're a month old. Time has gone by so fast."
Cora made a face at Jamie, scrunched up her face and started to cry. Sighing, Jamie shook his head.
"Looks like you need a diaper change honey."
Jamie smiled down at Cora and scooped her up in his arms, taking her over to the changing table. He spoke to her once more as he began changing her diaper.
"Let's get you into a nice clean and dry diaper baby girl. I know. You don't like feeling all icky. There we go. I wish I could stay with you. But daddy has to go to work. Bring healthy little babies into the world. You be good for great grandpa while mommy and daddy are at work."
Cora gave Jamie a smirk and closed her eyes, cooing at him. She had her little hand completely wrapped around his index finger. As he came down the stairs, he found Henry in the sunroom reading the newspaper.
"Ok pop. Here is the princess. She's going to enjoy spending a day with the king."
Henry made a face and put the paper down, taking Cora from Jamie.
"Eh. I'm not the king. She's my princess and my gg."
Jamie smiled and shook his head.
"Ok. She's still the princess though and your great grandpa. Now, Eddie and I, our phone numbers are on a laminated piece of paper on the fridge in big bold letters. Under it is a list of things she may need while staying with you. If there is an absolute emergency, call 911. Otherwise. Eddie will be by to pick her up at 6."
Henry made a face at Jamie one more time and waved a hand at him.
"She'll be fine Jamie. She's been staying with me every day for the last three weeks. I know her routine. She could use a nap. I know I could."
Shaking his head again, Jamie placed a kiss to Cora's forehead.
"Be good for pop baby girl."
Taking one last glance back at Cora, Jamie blew a kiss to her. Work now awaited him.
Jamie wasn't going to let anything bad get to him today. He had his mind made up about how his day was going to go. Mara smiled at Jamie and handed him a chart.
"Morning doctor. You are in an extremely good mood today."
Jamie took the chart and looked it over.
"Amy Sorenson. 39. Ah. She's high risk. I remember. Mostly because of her age."
Mara took the chart from Jamie and flipped to the fourth page.
"Doctor Reagan, her Magnesium levels are a little low. Should we start her on .3?"
Jamie nodded and took his pen out, making a note in Amy's chart.
"Yes. You two know the drill. Make sure she has an emesis basin nearby the mag is going to make her feel like crap and want to vomit."
Mara and Sandy went ahead of Jamie and entered Amy's room. Jamie sighed and entered mere 20 seconds behind Mara and Sandy.
"How are you feeling Amy?"
Amy looked up at Jamie with somewhat tired eyes.
"Like crap. This Magnesium you're giving me is making very nauseous."
Jamie took a mental note and squeezed Amy's hand.
"I can get you some Compazine to counteract the nausea you're feeling."
Amy nodded and tried her best to take a deep breath in. Her face scrunched up in obvious pain and Jamie made another mental note as she spoke up.
"Ow! Something doesn't feel right! The pain in my abdomen is sharp! Please help me!"
Jamie remained calm and looked at Amy, speaking to her gently.
"Ok, did you feel like your water broke? Did you feel something shift?"
Amy's husband Darren was quiet up until now.
"What's going on doc? What's wrong?"
Jamie gave the expectant couple a concerned look and remained professional. Amy looked at Jamie and explained what was going on.
"I think something shifted. What's going on?"
Inwardly, Jamie grimaced. Looking Amy in the eye he reassured her and kept his gentle tone of voice.
"Ok Amy, I'm going to take a quick look under the sheet, make sure we're on the right track."
Mara and Sandy were right by Jamie's side as he had a look. He paled behind his mask but quickly recovered, putting the sheet back over Amy's legs.
"Amy, the umbilical cord is coming out before your baby. Now I know you feel like you need to push, but I don't want you to push. Don't push, ok? I want you to take a deep breath and try and relax, ok? Just keep breathing. I want you to stay as still as you can for me. Your water hasn't broken yet. I'm going to have to break it for you. Ok all done. What I'm going to do now is keep the baby's head off their umbilical cord. Mara and Sandy are going help you lie flat on your back, and we'll get you up to the OR. I'll have your baby out in less than a minute."
Amy nodded her head and tried to hold back her tears as Mara and Sandy rearranged some things she was hooked up to. The only thing Amy was connected to was the Magnesium and the saline. The catheter had been taken out thirty minutes prior. The whole way to the OR Amy kept asking questions.
"Doctor Reagan? Is my baby going to be ok?"
Jamie gave her a sincere and sympathetic look.
"Your baby is going to be just fine. Now, I know you and Darren wanted to the sex of the baby to be a surprise. But what are you hoping for? A boy or a girl?"
Amy smiled and looked up at her husband Darren.
"We were hoping for a boy. We only had one name picked out for a boy. We like the name Jordan."
Jamie kept talking to Amy over the intercom as he went to go scrub.
"Jordan's a good name. What middle name were you thinking of?"
Amy stared up at the ceiling and smiled.
"I really like the name David for a middle name. What's your middle name Doctor Reagan?"
Jamie smiled as he came into the OR, speaking over the barrier separating the top part of Amy from her stomach.
"My middle name is Henry. After my grandfather. Amy, the anesthesiologist is going to give you something to numb the pain ok? Let me know if you still feel anything."
Amy was doing her best to stay calm, but she was scared. Jamie was doing his best to keep her calm by explaining everything to her.
"Doctor Reagan, make sure my baby boy is safe. Please."
Jamie nodded as he looked at her over the barrier.
"You have my word; I will get your baby out. Now, do you feel any pain?"
Amy shook her head no.
"No. I can't feel anything below my waist."
Jamie nodded again and then disappeared behind the barrier.
"Ok good. I'm almost to your baby. Just a few more seconds. You doing ok Amy?"
Amy nodded and stayed still. Her husband Darren kissed her forehead.
"You're doing so good honey. We're almost there."
Jamie smiled as his hands emerged with a screaming little boy.
"Here we go Amy! You and Darren have a beautiful and healthy baby boy!"
"Cora look who's home. Is that daddy?"
Jamie shed his coat and put it on the coat rack by the door.
"There's my little princess. Have you been good for mommy?"
Eddie gave a laugh and looked Jamie in the eye.
"Well, this little princess is getting stinky. Tell daddy he needs to change your diaper, Cora. Then he can cook dinner for mommy."
Jamie smirked and tried not to roll his eyes. He'd do anything for his girls. After all, his love language for Eddie was acts of service.
