"Ok Eddie. Could you scoot in a little closer to Jamie? Commissioner? A little to the left please."
Eddie shifted Cora in her arms and Jamie kissed her forehead. Henry and Frank both moved to the left and the photographer cleared his throat.
"Actually, Henry, uh Commissioner, I would like you to move to the left, and Commissioner, you to the right. There we go I think we've just about got it. There. Everyone smile and say cheese!"
Just as the camera made a beeping sound and the photo was taken, Cora started to cry. Eddie began to rock her slowly, trying to calm her.
"Oh no. Not now sweetie. We are almost done. I promise. Will you be good for daddy?"
Eddie handed Cora over to Jamie and she quickly quieted. The family had chosen to dress up for photos and have regular photos taken all in one fell swoop. Frank, Henry and Eddie all wore their dress blues. It was a family photo, but also professional as well. Jamie smiled and shifted Cora in his arms. The photographer made a gesture to have the family move in closer together and took another photo.
"Good. That's good. I'll have these photos to you in a couple of days."
Frank and Henry shook hands with the photographer. They had chosen to have the photos taken at pop's and Frank's house. Jamie cradled Cora and cooed at her.
"Daddy knows you're ready for a nap. It'll be ok. Are you hungry? Does mommy need to feed you first?"
Cora continued to suck on her pacifier and had opened up her eyes. Jamie loved when Cora looked up at him. She made noises and continued to suck on her pacifier. Jamie craned his head down towards Cora and smelled then shook his head.
"You don't smell like you need to be changed. Are you wet?"
Cora again spit her pacifier out and let out a dismayed cry. Jamie sighed and started climbing the stairs towards his old room. Once inside, he shut the door and gently set Cora on his childhood bed.
"Ok baby girl. Let's see if your wet or not."
Jamie went about checking to see if Cora was wet. When he found she wasn't, he saw her begin to fuss again. Her little bottom lip began to tremble. Gently scooping her up into his arms, he rocked her. She stopped fussing and started cooing instead.
"See? Daddy knows what you want. You just wanted to be held. Huh?"
Eddie had come into Jamie's old room and was leaning up against the door frame.
"Watch out babe. She's got you wrapped around her tiny hand. Was she wet?"
Jamie shook his head no and kept rocking Cora.
"No. I can't wait to see the picture we took though. Cora's tiny face scrunching up just as the camera went off. It'll be a funny and embarrassing story to share with her when she's older."
Eddie made a face and watched Cora for a minute. Then she frowned.
"Jamie? Her breathing sounds funny. Maybe you should listen to her lungs."
Jamie gave her a smirk but humored her.
"Alright. I'll humor you babe."
Taking his stethoscope out of his bag after he set Cora back onto the bed, he put the earpieces in his ears and put the bell up to her chest and listened.
"Is that normal?"
Jamie took the earpieces out of his ears and placed the stethoscope back in his bag. He pulled Eddie towards him and gave a smile.
"Eddie, babe, relax. Babies breathe through their noses. This baby is not congested or has a cold. Believe me, I will let you know if she comes down with even the slightest of sniffles. You are one healthy little girl Cora. Mommy and daddy love you. I think you've had enough excitement for one day baby girl. Let's get you and mommy home. The both of you could use a nap."
Eddie smiled and stifled a yawn.
"Sounds like a good plan to me. Would you like to join me?"
Jamie smirked and shook his head.
"I'd like that."
"Wait where are you going Jamie?"
Jamie turned around to face Eddie who was getting comfortable in bed.
"Shh. I'm going to make sure Cora's really down for her nap. You know how she gets sometimes. She settles and then she wakes up 20 minutes later."
Eddie sighed and pulled the blankets over her turning onto her side. She listened to Jamie over the baby monitor.
"Ok Cora. Let's all have a nice nap."
Eddie listened to her fuss for a minute or two and then she seemed to quiet. Jamie was soon back in the bedroom and climbed into bed with Eddie. She smiled as he spooned her under the covers.
"Hmm, your nice and warm. I think I could stay in this bed all day."
Eddie smiled with her eyes closed and felt Jamie's arms around her.
"I could stay in your arms all day Jamie Reagan. How did I get so lucky to marry such a sweet, caring, and respectful man like you?"
Jamie smiled and began kissing the back of Eddie's neck. In between kisses he spoke.
"I couldn't imagine life without you babe."
Sighing, the couple was soon fast asleep. Jamie pulled Eddie closer to him in his sleep. Eddie mumbled something in her sleep. Jamie sighed and kissed the back of Eddie's neck again. Eddie stiffened in Jamie's arms as she heard Cora begin to cry. She mumbled.
"Coming baby girl."
Eddie yawned and stumbled out of bed. Making her way to the nursery, she smiled tiredly at a fussy Cora. Reaching into the crib, she gathered the crying little girl in her arms. Settling into the rocking chair, Eddie knew exactly what Cora needed. Cora grew more upset until Eddie got herself situated and spoke down to her.
"I know your hungry sweet girl. Come on. The food is right there. That's it. That's my good girl."
Eddie was so focused on what was going on between her and Cora she didn't see Jamie leaning against the door frame to the nursery.
"She definitely has her mother's appetite."
Eddie gave a tired smirk and then looked up at Jamie.
"Well, she gets upset like you do when you are really hungry."
Jamie put a left hand to his chest and feigned being wounded.
"I do not babe. Have you ever seen me get really get upset when I'm hungry?"
Eddie kept smirking.
"You get really grumpy."
Jamie gave a soft laugh and pulled up another chair next to Eddie.
"Are we still talking about me? Or are we talking about this adorable, and beautiful baby girl having a meal in your arms?"
Eddie gave a laugh of her own and then winced.
"Oooh. You're daughter is a barracuda. Ouch."
Jamie gave her a sympathetic look and rubbed her back up by her left shoulder blade.
"I know. It'll get better. You can always pump some more and bottle feed her if you want."
Eddie looked at Jamie and shook her head.
"That would mean twice as many dishes. I would have to pump several times a day. I don't know if I have that in me babe."
Jamie could see Eddie was tired.
"I understand. It's completely your choice."
Watching as Eddie nodded off to sleep, Jamie gently shook her shoulder and then turned his attention to Cora. Eddie cracked her eyes open and shook her head, frowning.
"I know, don't fall asleep while Cora's nursing. I'll get an infection. I know. It's hard sometimes because I'm so tired and she's comfortable. I can barely keep my eyes open."
Jamie nodded.
I do understand that part. We take turns taking care of her. Everyone in the family has been helping out. It helps too if you nurse her on both sides. You tend to favor your right more than the left. Why is that?"
Eddie let the frown stay on her face.
"Do you really want me to explain why?"
Eddie gestured down towards her chest for emphasis. Jamie put his hands up.
"I get it babe. Perfectly normal. Do you want me to get the lotion for later?"
Eddie gave a tired smile.
"That would be great. Thanks babe."
A couple of days later, the family was gathered at pop and Frank's house, and they were gushing over the photos that had been taken. Eddie gave a small laugh when she saw her, Jamie and Cora's family photos.
"Aw. Poor baby girl. She was not having it. She was so good throughout the whole process. The last photo was the last straw for her, I guess. You do look very sexy all dressed up though."
Jamie smirked and then whispered in her ear, getting the attention of Danny.
"Hey lovebirds, there are children present."
Eddie felt heat come to her cheeks and she saw Jamie's face become slightly rosy as well.
"Well, Danny, I think Cora is starting to recognize our voices. She already knows our smells. I don't have to do much to calm her."
Before Danny could pitch in with his answer, Erin interjected.
"That's why you make a wonderful doctor Jamie. Babies seem to gravitate towards your calm and relaxed demeanor. Danny on the other hand, babies scream with him."
Jamie held in a laugh.
"Oh yeah. I remember when Nicky was born. She screamed when you placed her in his arms. She took a long time to time to get used to him."
Now Danny shook his head and gave a slight exasperated sigh.
"Cora likes me well enough. It took her a week to get used to me. Now she's a perfect little angel. Isn't that right princess?"
Cora cooed at Danny as Jamie placed her in his arms.
"Here you go Uncle Danny. Your niece Princess Cora."
This made the family burst out into a fit of laughter. He looked down at Cora and scrunched up his nose.
"You stink princess. How about I give you back to daddy. I haven't done diaper duty in a long time."
This elicited a slight choked laugh from Sean.
"Yeah dad. The last diaper you changed was mine and that was almost 22 years ago."
The family let out a few more laughs. It was good to share in a moment like this. The Reagan's were enjoying a moment of happiness and joy.
