Confidence. Eddie finally felt like was gaining her confidence back. Cora was just starting to sleep through the night, four hours at a time at least. Turning the light off in the bathroom, she walked out into the bedroom. She noticed the bed was empty. Exiting the bedroom, she made her way down the stairs and into the living room. As she descended the stairs, she found Jamie and Cora asleep on the couch. Cora nestled against Jamie's chest sucking on her pacifier. Silently taking her phone out of her pocket, Eddie quickly took a photo.

Stowing her phone away she went around to the other side of the couch and placed a gentle kiss to Jamie's forehead and then one to the crown of Cora's. She froze when Cora moved slightly, but then went back to sleep. Before leaving out the door, she left Jamie a note on the coffee table. She was ready for her tour with her partner Amanda. She felt like she was really hitting her stride now that things were in a good routine at home. Forty minutes later, she was dressed in her uniform and ready for a day of keeping bad guys off the streets. Exiting the women's locker room with Amanda right behind her, she made conversation.

"I think I'm finally getting the hang of motherhood."

Amanda gave her a smirk and kept walking next to Eddie.

"Don't get cocky Eddie. It took me almost a year and a half to get the hang of everything. It's trial and error. I had my mother help me. You have your husband who's a doctor to help you out."

Eddie shook her head and the partners walked out of the precinct towards their RMP. Eddie continued their conversation when they got inside the car. At least with Amanda she was allowed to drive their RMP. The last few partners she'd had before Amanda didn't let her drive. She found it annoying.

"How did you manage with Amara her first year?"

Amanda gave a small sigh.

"Mom and I took rotating shifts. It also helped that my husband worked from home. His shifts were pretty flexible. They still are. Sometimes I still can't believe Amara is 6. I remember the day she was born as clear as if it were yesterday. I was on desk duty at the 8th precinct when I went into labor. David and I had a few hiccups along the way while I was pregnant with her. I went for a cup of tea in the break room. I was heating up the water for my tea in the microwave when my water broke. I felt so embarrassed. Sargent Wilson noticed my discomfort and called a bus for me. David was a mess when he met me at the hospital. Amara was in the nicu for a month. She's a fighter. She's such a little chatterbox. She keeps going on and on about seeing Cora. She really wants a little sister. That way she can take care of her."

At this admission, Eddie gave a small laugh.

"I'd love for you to come and see Cora. Amara is such a sweet little girl."

Amanda was about to answer when someone from central dispatch came over the radio.

"12 David on the air."

Amanda sat in the passenger seat next to Eddie and reached for her radio on her left shoulder.

"12 David go."

A brief moment of silence and then a woman's voice over the radio.

"12 David, we have reports of a robbery in progress at 22980 East 197th street. Burrough bank and trust. Multiple suspects are considered armed and dangerous. Use caution when approaching."

Amanda again reached for her radio at her shoulder.

"Show 12 David responding."

Eddie hit the gas and started towards the bank. When they got there, they both exited the car and found there were dozens of other RMP's lining the street. Hiding behind one of the parked RMP's, Eddie looked to one of the other officers.

"Where do you want us to go sir? Side door or the front?"

Reading the nameplate on the Sargent's uniform shirt, it said Garson. Eddie swallowed and listened to him answer.

"Janko, Stevenson, you two around the side. Marcson and I will go through the front. Keep your eyes peeled and stay sharp."

Eddie nodded and pulled her gun, keeping it at her side. Her and Amanda entered the building quietly and rounded a corner. There maybe 20 or so feet away were four armed suspects. The first one was giving out orders.

"Everyone down on the ground. You! Open the safe and give me all the money you've got in there! Now!"

Eddie eyed Amanda and made a quiet signal at her to slowly move towards one of the suspects. Nodding, she took a few steps forward. A woman was about to speak up on the floor next to her, but Amanda put her finger to her lips to keep her quiet. The frightened woman nodded and put her head back down on the ground. Eddie felt the adrenaline coursing through her veins as she got closer to the second of the four perps. She visually sized him up. He wasn't very smart. He was looking everywhere but behind him. Taking her chance, Eddie yelled out.

"Police! Drop your weapon and get down on the ground! NOW!"

The second perp seemed startled and dropped his gun. Eddie was cuffing him as soon as he was down on the ground. Several other officers were able to take control of the situation and stop the robbery. Shaking her head, Eddie handed the perp she'd cuffed to another officer and gave a bright smile to Amanda.

"These guys think they were so smart. The second perp that just got walked out of here I could see his face."

Amanda shook her head and looked around. All the people that had been held hostage were being checked out by various EMT's to make sure they were ok. She opened her mouth to speak but Sargent Garson made his appearance.

"Good work Janko, Stevenson. Keep it up and the two of you will be up for promotion someday."

Eddie beamed as Sargent Garson turned his back towards the partners. Most of their tour after the failed bank robbery went fairly smoothly until Eddie had to ride to the hospital with a perp because he'd been shot in the leg. While he was in surgery getting the bullet removed and bagged for evidence, Eddie went up to the fourth floor in search of Jamie. But she knew where he would be. She stood in front of the window of the nicu and watched as Jamie sat down in a rocking chair next to an open and heated crib. A tiny baby girl lie resting in it. Eddie's heart broke seeing all these babies fighting for their lives. She was thankful that Cora had been born healthy. She knew he sometimes would visit the nicu when he did deliver a baby that was premature. Swallowing, Eddie lightly rapped on the window. This made him look up and come out into the hallway.

"Eddie? What are you doing here?"

Eddie gave him a sad sort of smile.

"I brought in a perp with a gunshot wound to his left leg. He's up in surgery. I had to babysit him on the way to the hospital. Once he's out of surgery and stable enough for transfer, he'll be sent to Central Booking. What's that little one's story?"

Jamie gave a tired sigh and shook his head.

"That is baby girl Grayson. Her parents haven't given her a name yet. They said they haven't found the right one. She was born by C-section nearly 4 hours ago. She was blue when she came into the world. We got her breathing though. She's holding her own. She's on pressors and a bunch of other meds to keep her stable. But the other docs are hopeful. Things felt like they were spinning out of control Eddie. I was teaching my Lamaze class when it happened. The whole situation was playing out like my nightmare the other night. Luckily my nightmare didn't come true. Mother and baby are both alive. Her mother is recovering down the hall. I assured this baby girl's father that I would check on her every day until she leaves this hospital."

Eddie smiled and pulled Jamie in for a kiss. When she pulled away, she saw a smile pull at his lips as she spoke.

"See? This is why I love you. You care for people deeply. You put all these women you care for at ease. That little girl in there is a fighter. She's going to pull through. Did I ever tell you how sexy you look in that starched white lab coat?"

Jamie smirked and pulled Eddie in for another kiss. Eddie pulled away when she heard Amanda walk up behind her.

"Well lovebirds, I hate to break up this moment, but the doc wants to see us, Eddie."

Sighing, Eddie grabbed at the collar of Jamie's lab coat gently and shook her head.

"Duty calls babe. I gotta go. Check your phone. I sent you something."

Eddie shook her head as Jamie looked at her.

"What?"

She rolled her eyes.

"You'll love it. See you tonight babe. Love you."

He smiled and replied back.

"Love you too babe."

Walking away, Eddie looked to Amanda.

"You really know how to kill a romantic moment, Amanda."

Amanda only gave a slight laugh.

"Me? Nah. The two of you were meant to be together. I've known that since you met him. He's a good guy Eddie. Let's go check up on that joker with that doc. See if he's ready to go to Central booking in a few days at least. While we're here, there's also something I need to do really quick. It won't take long. Then we'll get back to the house once we get an update on our perp."

Eddie sighed as the two partners continued down the hallway and towards the elevators. She heard her phone ping with a text message alert in her pocket. Pulling it out, she smiled as she read the text.

J: When did you take this pic?
E:
This morning. I didn't want to wake the two of you. She looked so comfortable sleeping on your chest.

Shaking her head, she quickly pulled up the photo of Jamie and Cora from earlier that morning. Amanda looked at the photo and her face softened.

"That's adorable. I have so many photos of Amara and David sleeping like that on my phone somewhere. I'll show you some when we get back to the house."

Smiling, Eddie gave Amanda a fist bump and the two walked out of the elevator and onto the surgical floor. It'd been a long day and now they needed to talk to the doctor who was taking care of their perp.
