We were on the run for two days. New York was where we were, just outside of it anyways, and we were going to Massachusetts on foot. Gravesfield, Connecticut is where we ended up, half way to Massachusetts. We avoided the main road, and we're traveling through the woods.
We had robbed two clothing stores and one fast food joint. Wanda replaced her straight jacket with a pair of tight black jeans and a red brocade vest that shows off her midriff, black, leather pants with a long, red, ribbon-like belt and thick, red shoes. I had taken a long sleeve shirt that covered my hands, a belt to hold up my pants and combat boots to make it easier to run in, I also took a face mask to cover my face.
Reaching a cabin, I looked up at the sky and noticed that it was getting dark. "We should stop for the night." I said as I looked over at her, with me seeing her looking up at the sky as well. She nodded and started walking over to the cabin, with some following her.
Once we opened the door, we saw a whole new world on the other side, shocking us. "Magic?" She asked as we both leaned in, looking up and seeing the sky was just turning its reddish color, meaning it was going to be dark soon. We leaned to the side and found that the door wasn't connected to anything, making it more surprising. Stepping through, I walked around the door and looked through the other side, seeing that the door was still closed from this side.
"It's the only thing I can think of." I said as Wanda walked over and also looked at the door. Just then, an owl flew through the door with a bag of stuff, followed by the door closing and folding into a suitcase. We couldn't help but look on in disbelief at what had just happened. The owl took the suitcase with it and flew off, with us running after it as it had the only door back home.
Later
Seeing the owl fly through the window of a house in the middle of this strange new worlds woods, we came to a stop as we took in the appearance of the house. The House is made from white brick with a sloping blue roof. A stained glass window above the door gives the impression of a large orange demon eye. A crumbling stone tower with orange moss growing on it is located to the rear left of the house.
"I'm getting a witchy vibe coming from this house." I said as I looked over at Wanda, who nodded her head in agreement. "Ok, so here is the plan!" I said as we knelt down and I grabbed a stick. "First, here's the house, then this is where we are." I said as I drew a map. "The plan is to distract them while the other breaks in." I said where I put the stick down and we played a quick game of rock paper scissors to see who was going to break in.
I lost, with Wanda looking over at the house. "Once inside, finds the suitcase, unfold it and return home!" She said as I stood up. "Then once I have the suitcase I will give you the signal to break contact with them." She said, where I started walking over to the front door.
"Alright, time to get this show on the road!" I said as I approached the front door and knocked on it. Crossing my arms, I waited for they to answer, but they never showed. Knocking again, I heard something fall on the other side and scratch something hard.
The door opened, with me looking up at a tall, slender woman in her mid-to-late 40s, with ivory skin, pointed ears, maroon lips, and golden eyes. Her untamed hair is thick, long, and layered with tones of gray. She has a gold fang, orange claw-like nails, and an oval amber gem on her sternum. "Hello?" She asked, confused on why I was here.
"Greetings, I have come a long way for a great teacher! Legends and words say that you are the one that I am seeking!?" I said, deepening my voice as I spoke to her.
"A teacher? Sorry, wrong house... Did you say legends?" She asked as she almost closed the door on me.
"Indeed! Legend says that you are so powerful that even the very mountains move out of your path!" I said, where I looked behind her and saw Wanda sneaking around like a loony toons character.
"I knew I was I'm Eda, the Owl Lady. The most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles! But Mountains? Now it's becoming a stretch." She said, making us freeze at her words.
"Y-Yes, Eda the Most Powerful... Will you train me to become the most powerful person in the world?" I asked, with her thinking about it.
"You know, I could fall for your little game, but I'm going to let it end here." She said, with me getting hit in the gut by a wooden stick that knocked me back. Looking back, I saw her trace her finger in the air and Vines started wrapping around me, with them withering away from my touch. "Interesting!" She said as she made another circle and moved Wanda outside, who fall on her back side.
"How did she know?" Wanda asked as we stood up, facing Eda. We watched as the Owl landed on the head of the stick, showing us that it was apart of the staff. "I get it now, the owl knew we were following it and told her." She said while gritting her teeth.
"Maybe we should retreat and come up with another plan?" I suggested as I watched as Eda smirked at us. "She said she is the most powerful witch here." I added as I looked over at her.
"She has never met me." Wanda said as she clinched her fists and threw her hands out, sending all of the rocks at her as she could, with me giving chase as well. I watched as she fired a laser at the rocks, taking them out. Reaching Eda, I jumped over her attack, with her attack hitting the ground. With a quick circle it created a blast that I could not dodge.
Getting hit, I was thrown back, smoke coming off of my chest as it burned. "That hurt!" I called out as I held my wound, trying to get the air back in my lungs as it knocked it out of me. Seeing a log coming down on me, I rolled out of the way, placed my hands on a tree and made it rot, healing my chest.
"Now I don't know what kind of magic you use, but it's clear it's dangerous to get close to you." Eda said as she flicked her fingers, with rocks coming up out of the ground and trapping me. "So you can stay there for the time being!" She said with a wink as she blocked more of the rocks that Wanda sent at her. "You on the other hand, are just as interesting as your friend here." She said as the log came out of the ground and smacked Wanda in the back, sending her flying towards Eda. "You, I need to be up close and personal with." She said as she smacked Wanda in the face with the staff, sending her to the ground.
"You will regret that." Wanda said in a low voice as she held her cheek, with the air getting colder.
"Oh? Ice magic? Ok, let's see it!" Eda said with a grin as she crossed her arms.
"Ice Magic? No... MY RAGE!?" Wanda yelled as she exploded with red energy that pushed Eda away, who had brought up a barrier to block it. The energy destroyed the rocks that trapped me, but they hit me as well, sending me flying. Hitting the ground, my body burned. "YOU WILL PAY!?!?" She yelled as she focused her energy at Eda.
"Hooty, now would be a good time to come out!?" Eda yelled, where the log came out of the ground and bonked Wanda on the head, taking her out.
"Did I win?" The log asked, with me seeing an Owl face on the end of it, twisting around as it spoke and moved around.
"Yes, Hooty, you win." Eda said as I got up and ran over to them. "Hooty!" She called out, stepping in front of it as I stepped in front of Wanda, both of us holding our arms out to protect our friends.
"Stay away from her!" I yelled, glaring her down as she did the same to me.
"Interesting aura you have there." She said, confusing me at her words. "Surrender, this fight is over!" She said as she lowered her arms.
"Agreed." I said, still standing guard over Wanda. She watched me with a smirk, crossing her arms. She tilted her head down to Wanda, then looked back at me. "What?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at her even more.
"You can't touch her!" She said with a laugh, then stopped and looked back at me with a look of realization. "You can't touch her." She repeated as she looked down at Wanda. "A curse?" She asked, making me flinch at her words and look down at my hands as she said that.
My hands were covered in blood. I couldn't breath. Hands came up from under them, grabbing them, pulling them down. My parents blood soaked faces, grinning up at me. They pulled me to the ground, closer to their bodies. Feeling something on my back, I looked over my shoulder and saw my sisters blood soaked face, her eyes missing. It was like looking into the endless void of the abyss. Her mouth opened, coming down to bite me.
"DON'T TOUCH ME!?!?" I yelled as I covered my head and dived for the ground, curling into a ball to make myself smaller, harder for anyone to touch. I needed to disappear, for them to disappear. I could hear them laughing at me.
"Wow, hey, what's gotten into you?" Eda questioned me, with me opening my eyes to see her kneeling in front of me. "That bad, huh?" She asked, with me nodding. "I know what you are going through, I too am cursed." She said, sitting down and crossing her legs. "You see this gem?" She asked, with me nodding. "When this gem turns black, I transform into a monster, and have no control over it. I even have nightmares of the monster inside." She said, her hand touching the gem. "What do you see?" She asked, with me looking back at my hands.
"My family." I said, where her eyes widened. "I woke up one day and when I touched them..."
"They died?" She asked, with me nodding as I fought back the tears. "I'm sorry to hear about that. I woke up and was suddenly cursed as well." She said as she looked over at Wanda. "Is she cursed as well?" She asked, where I sat up and looked at her.
"Cursed with the memories of her father abandoning her to an asylum." I answered, where she looked at me in confusion. "A place for people who have lost their minds and are bat shit crazy." I answered her unspoken question.
"Oh, the loony bin! Well why didn't you say so!" She said as she got up. "Come on kid, let's get inside before the acid rain kicks in!" She said as she walked over to Wanda and picked her up. "You two are some of the most interesting things I've ever come across!" She said with a laugh as she walked inside. Getting up, I followed her, thinking of only one thing that she said.
Acid Rain?
