The legalities: I do not own any of the Expendables franchise (characters, places, and objects especially) and this is mostly au.Rated M just to be on the safe side.

Also, please don't be afraid to write reviews. I would love to hear from you all!

Hope you enjoy!

Prompt: "How do you remember that? You were very unconscious at the time."

"Hey, Mars. You doing alright?"

Mars looked up to see Jacoba lowering herself into the chair next to him in the hanger's sitting room. "I'm fine. But shouldn't I be asking you that?"

The team had just come back from a quick mission to take out a drug lord. Mars and Jacoba had been paired together and had made it through most of the compound when an explosion knocked them both out. When Mars had been jolted awake, he'd seen Jacoba laying bound on the floor in front of him as he hung, bound, by his wrists. The drug lord had come in not long after (Mars had witnessed Jacoba sleeping before, so he hadn't even tried to wake her) and began to gloat about how he'd captured them and how they were all alone, ecetera. Mars may or may not have egged him on (he would deny it all if asked) as the man had continued to berate them.

By that time, the team had started back for them, as evidenced by the hail of bullets that they could hear outside. As the sudden noise distracted the drug lord, Mars took advantage of the situation to knock out the idiot just as Thorn and Gunnar burst through the door. The rest was a bit of a blur to him, but he really couldn't help but feel like he had let Jacoba down. She had practically become his big sister ever since the team had expanded and to see Gunnar carrying her out of the room and to the plane was a bit jarring for him.

"Still with me there, bud?"

Mars looked back up at Jacoba quickly to see her smirking at him. "Yeah, yeah. I'm good."

"You know that what happened wasn't your fault, right? That drug lord saying that you were was to get under you skin. He couldn't be further from the truth."

Mars started to nod in response before her words fully sunk in. He looked up at her, very confused. "How do you remember that? You were very unconscious at the time."

Jacoba just smirked. "I've gotten very good at faking unconsciousness. It helps in many of the situations I find myself in."

"You're just a trouble magnet, aren't you?"

"You say that like it's a bad thing."
