"Here they come."Carlisle said as he watched a group of robed figures walk across the clearing towards the group standing with him. It had been a month since Alice got her vision of Laurent going to Italy to claim the Cullens had created an immortal child. No one was surprised that he did it. Laurent had been trying to get his revenge for them killing his mate James when he targeted Edward's mate Jessica. Initially the man tried to create a newborn army to kill everyone but with the help of Denali Coven they were eliminated before he could create more than a dozen. He had taken off after that and hadn't been seen since. Carlisle was actually surprised he waited so long to act.
"What's with the girl with the sunglasses and the cane holding on to Queen Athenodora's arm?"Emmett asked.
"That's their shield Isabella and the glasses and cane are because she is blind."Eleazar told him.
"Wait their shield is blind?"Harriet, Emmet's mate had never heard of a blind vampire before.
"Very blind. Don't let that fool you though. She is the most powerful shield I have ever come across both physical and mental and the only vampire known to have both gifts."Eleazar knew that Isabella was the only reason the kings were comfortable leaving the castle and bringing the queens.
"I didn't think she would be blind."Emmett and the others had been told about the Volturi's shield but never expected the woman to be blind.
"It doesn't matter if she is blind or not. What matters is getting around her gift."Edward had been practicing ever since he met Aro the first time and was positive that he would be able to get past Isabella's shield.
"You can't even get past Rosalie or Tanya's."Harriet said.
"Those aren't gifts. They are natural blocks."Edward had been extremely displeased when he met Tanya and couldn't read her mind. At first he had taken it as proof the pair were mated until Tanya had met Rosalie Hale on a visit to the Cullens in the 1930's. It was obvious Tanya was mated to the human and regardless of Edward's objections to damning Rosalie's soul Tanya changed her anyway. The fact that Tanya involved herself in such an immoral relationship had disgusted him enough that any lingering feelings went away.
"Natural blocks you can't get around."Emmett muttered.
"Enough they are almost in hearing range. We don't need them to know we are arguing amongst ourselves."Carlisle scolded effectively quieting the trio and reminding not only them but the rest of the group that consisted of other covens and nomads that had agreed to serve as witnesses the seriousness of the situation. All were tense except for Tanya and Rosalie. It was strange that they were so calm but Carlisle had noticed that the pair didn't really seemed bothered by much. Even with the threat of a newborn army they just acted like it was a normal day. No fear or concern. It made Carlisle suspicious but he could never prove anything out of the ordinary other than both of them were immune to Edward's gift. Aro speaking brought him out his musings.
"Carlisle my old friend it's lovely to see you. However the circumstance of our visit are rather concerning."Aro greeted once the Volturi had stopped.
"My king this is simply a misunderstanding."Carlisle began only to be cut off by Caius.
"You think us stupid. We can see the immortal child clinging to the newborn."Caius said.
"The girl is not an immortal child."Carlisle once again was interrupted by Caius.
"You dare think you can fool us!"Caius' voice was outraged.
"Your majesty I am not trying to fool any of you."Carlisle said.
"Then why are you lying about the child when the proof is right in front of us?"Aro asked.
"The girl is not an immortal child she is actually a vampire, human hybrid. Born when Edward's mate was human."Carlisle told them.
"Impossible."Marcus said.
"Your majesty if you listen you can hear the child's heartbeat."Carlisle hoped that would give them enough doubt that the kings would listen.
Caius dismissed the claim."It's simply artificial."
"Not only does she have a heartbeat but she has blood running through her veins and a warn body temperature."Carlisle took the lack of response from Aro and Marcus as a good sign.
"Bring the girl to me."Aro ordered.
Carlisle put a hand on Jessica's shoulder when he heard the newborn growl."Of course your majesty."
"You'll be alright."Rosalie said to Jessica. It shocked the whole group as it was the first time Rosalie had spoken to anyone but her coven. No one could ever claim to have a conversation with the blond as she kept to herself and was always by one of her coven mate's side. Allowing them to answer for her. The Cullens had known Rosalie when she was human and even then the girl said very little. Never seeking anyone out and always keeping conversations polite but short.
"Ok."Jessica didn't know why but that small comment by Rosalie gave her all the reassurance she needed. Making her way across the clearing with Edward and Jacob by her side she stopped in front of Aro.
"Give me your hand young one."Aro said.
"Yes, your majesty."Jessica held out her hand.
Aro took the hand in his own and closed his eyes. A few minutes passed before he opened them."Extraordinary."
"What did you see?"Marcus asked.
"Carlisle speaks the truth."Aro eyed Tanya and Rosalie."Not only that but it seems Tanya and her mate have the ability to block Edward, Alice and Jasper's gifts."
"Why didn't we know this when we confronted them over the immortal child?"Caius asked.
"I don't know but I wonder. Tanya and Rosalie would you be so kind to allow me to try out my own gift on each of you?"Aro may have asked it as a question but both groups gathered knew it wasn't a request.
"Of course your majesty."Tanya easily agreed.
"Tanya are you sure?"Kate didn't like the idea of her coven leader and Rosalie being so close to Aro and the guards.
Tanya turned her head to Kate and winked."More than sure."
"Shouldn't they be at least a little bit nervous about facing Aro?"Emmett asked in a whisper so that only his group of allies could hear him.
"It does seem odd that they are so willing to be close to the kings and the guards."Siobhan said.
"Does anyone else feel like the pair were almost excited by the request?"Harriet asked.
"They have seemed rather excited as we have gotten closer to this confrontation."Esme had seen the way the mated couple's happiness had increased as the event got closer.
"I feel like Rosalie is holding herself back from skipping across the field."Irina wasn't sure what to make out of both her sisters' demeanor but had learned over the years to trust them both. Tanya had proven time and again that she was never wrong on how things would turn out to the point that Irina had questioned whether the coven leader was a seer. Especially when she had known exactly were to find Victoria Irina's mate when she was a human child. Tanya had tried to play it off as it was just a coincidence but it was obvious that Tanya had previous information. Not that Irina was complaining. She was able to save her mate and her sister Anne from a horrible life of slavery. Luckily the pair hadn't been old enough to be used for prostitution.
"It did seem that the pair were rather excited when we got the visit from Edward."Victoria had at least expected some kind of adverse reaction to seeing what everyone thought was an immortal child.
"True neither of them even flinched when the child was revealed."Carmen had thought it was odd as well.
"Do you think they are hiding something?"Maggie asked. She didn't mind Rosalie or Tanya. Even though both were immune to her gift she enjoyed their company. Rosalie's lack of speaking didn't bother her and she felt comfortable in the mute blond's presence. Maggie found that sometimes it was nice just to exist with another person without the pressure to fill the silence.
"Yes."Anne had always thought that Tanya was hiding something. Not that it mattered to her because she knew that Tanya only had the coven's best interest at heart. The coven leader never put them in danger. She had actually saved them more times than any of them could count.
"Well I think something big is about to happen."Carlisle said. It was just as Rosalie and Tanya made it close to Aro he was proven right.
"Now."Isabella yelled.
"What the fuck?!"Kate exclaimed. She wasn't sure what was going on but as soon as the blind vampire shouted all hell broke loose on the other side of the field. The Volturi guard started turning on each other.
"I thought she couldn't see!"Emmett rubbed his eyes not believing what he was seeing. Isabella the vampire he had just been told was blind had dropped her cane and was now sparing with Marcus. It seemed that Isabella was intent on causing the king pain as she punched and kicked the man. A guard member tried to attack her but was thrown back by an invisible barrier.
"Should we help them?"Irina wasn't sure what they could do but didn't want her sisters to be killed.
"No, we don't know who the enemies are. If we got involved they most likely will get hurt trying to protect us."Senna wanted to help as she had a lot of respect for the Denali Coven but knew if they got involved they would be more of a nuisance than a help.
"What is going on?"Edward asked as he rushed back to the group with his mate, daughter and Jacob behind him.
"We don't know. Did you hear anything?"Amun was very uncomfortable with this whole situation. Although as he watched the fight it seemed as if Tanya and Rosalie's side was going to win. Especially once Isabella had ripped Marcus' head off and ran to help Tanya with Caius.
"I didn't hear anything at first. Everything was silent. Then all of sudden I was overwhelmed with multiple minds opening up me. Most of them panicked."Edward told them.
"Well they are going to kill at least two of the kings."Garret said as he watched Tanya and Isabella take turns beating on Caius.
"Aro isn't going to get away from them either."Eleazar didn't know what his coven leader was thinking but knew there had to be some reason that they had attacked the kings.
"Did you hear what Rosalie was saying to Chelsea?"Irina asked.
"She was comforting her. Telling her that everything was alright now and she could stop. That Corin was safe and no one would take her away from her again."Jessica was still shocked about everything that was going on.
"What do you think that meant?"Kate asked.
"It was rumored that Chelsea was being forced by Aro to use her gift to form and break bonds of vampires he picked out. I think Corin is Chelsea's mate and Rosalie is reassuring her that she is safe."Carmen guessed.
"How the hell did Rosalie of all people know that?"Harriet didn't think that Rosalie would have talked to anyone who would have known that information. Harriet actually didn't think that Rosalie would talk to anyone at all.
"I don't know but the kings are dead and the guard is now in pieces."Carlisle couldn't understand how everything had turned out like this. He was actually expecting most of them to be dead. Now it was the kings who were dead and he wasn't sure what to make of any of it.
"What the hell is going on?"Alice asked as she rushed out of the tree line with Japser and two other vampires behind her.
"Alice!"Esme exclaimed in excitement.
Alice gave her hug."Why are the Volturi fighting each other?"
"We don't know. One second Rosalie and Tanya were being asked by Aro to let him read them the next Isabella gave a signal then all hell broke loose and now the kings are dead."Emmett told her.
"The kings are dead?"Jasper wasn't sure what to make out of all this.
Kate nodded."Yeah Tanya and Isabella killed them."
"Isn't Isabella blind?"Alice was sure that's what she had been told.
"I don't know how true that is because she is a better fighter than any of us."Harriet knew that even without her shield none of the vampires on their side would have stood a chance against the vampire.
"It seems things are cooling down."Carlisle said.
"Hopefully we can get an explanation out of Tanya and Rosalie."Anne really wanted to know what was going on.
Victoria was about to reply but stopped when she looked across the field and saw Isabella kiss Rosalie passionately only to turn to Tanya and kiss her as well."What the hell?!"
"This just got more fucked up."Harriet mumbled the rest of the group agreeing.
"I think this is just par for the course."Kate shrugged at the various looks she was getting from the group."After living with Tanya for so long I've come to expect the unexpected."
